Reviewing the real AP All-SEC team

Hey everyone. Welcome.

So I ran my All-SEC ballot by you earlier this week. Now we know who actually made the team. Let's see how that compares to what I chose.

S — Mark Barron, Alabama, 6-2, 214, So.
P — Drew Butler, Georgia, 6-2, 203, So.

    MY MISSING GUYS
  • Ryan Mallett at quarterback. He made the second team. I guess it's a matter of how much one guy makes a difference. Arkansas, in my opinion, would have been awful without Mallett. Florida minus Tebow wouldn't have been No. 1, but they'd have been pretty good. I could see a great argument for Tebow, too. It's just a matter of preference.

  • Colin Peek at tight end. He made the second team. I also like Hernandez a lot and I think he'll be a terrific NFL player. He's significantly faster than Peek. I've been impressed with Peek all year because, for a while there, he was the main player in the Tide's passing attack. Peek was up to that challenge and more.

  • Patrick Peterson at cornerback. He made the second team. Cornerback can be a very difficult position to quantify. I don't really look at stats. I go by coaches. I hear who they consider nasty and if the player looks nasty to me, I develop that opinion. I assure you that Peterson's reputation is more significant than a second-team selection would lead you to believe.

  1. I'm no Auburn expert but Coleman seemed to play well coming down the stretch.

  2. Peek was a good selection. He is a player that surprised me in the Iron Bowl. I didn't know anything about him before then, but he was impressive.

  3. Peek would have been more widely known but he got hurt in the UT game during warmups (strained MCL when a player fell into him)

That limited him for a couple of games.

  4. Thanks for the heads up FSJ

  5. Is Daren Bates up for freshman of the year honors? He was a pleasant surprise and really made a difference for us this season.

  6. Darvin Adams nowhere to be found. Doesn't make any sense.

  7. Darvin is not as good as AJ Green.

As for Hodge, his numbers were a shade better than Darvin. So that's why I voted Hodge.

Darvin would have been No. 3 for me.

  8. That kid from Vanderbilt led the league in all-purpose yards.

That's probably more impressive that what Bates has done, though Bates has been a huge surprise.

  9. The biggest shock to me: Anthony Dixon is not a unanimous first-team guy. He was outstanding the whole way through.

  10. I still like McElroy for QB. I didn's see the games where he apparently was trying to emulate the early season Jeff Crompton.

But Tiffin? no thanks. He's undeserving of 1st or 2nd team. Plus I still haven't forgiven his daddy.

  11. Leigh Tiffin is a great kicker. What are you talking about?

  12. Jay,

What's your read on this Houston Nutt stuff?....

He's denied it since this morning.

I think it is typical Sexton maneuvering.

  13. Sexton, no doubt.

Nutt is not going to Kansas ... and never was.

  14. JayGT - he may be a great kicker, but there were greater placekickers in the SEC this year.

  15. Wasn't Tiffin accosted during the offseason?

  16. Ziemba was going to be first team All-SEC but he prematurely posted on Facebook the news prior to the official announcement.

Consequently, he was penalized and relegated to the second team.
