Thigpen talking with Florida?

The fine peeps at footballcoachscoop.com, who have been right almost every time in situations I can verify personally, are saying assistant coach Tommy Thigpen has interviewed at Florida for a job as safeties coach.

Is it true? I'll call Thig, but don't expect to hear anything substantive about this until the Outback Bowl stuff gets into swing on Dec. 26 or 27.

For those who don't know, Thigpen is a critical (central?) component of the Tigers' recruiting enterprise. He's a main contact for most big-name prospects and I'm certain that Gene Chizik would work to keep Thigpen on the Plains if it came to that. More money? A new Pez dispenser? A bigger coaching role? You name it.

Back to the note from footballcoachscoop.com, I think I know who will get that job if it comes down to Thig and Willie Martinez. I'd say one resume is significantly thicker than the other.

**Thanks to Jet for his assistance here.

Maybe he can take Gus and a couple of others with him...

    Leave Trooper and Luper though.

    Hope Thig stays!

  14. wtc,

What are your thoughts about James Stone from Nashville?

    Auburn in on him?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I propose to Chiz that he promote Thig to Co-Coordinator, Lead Singer and Driver of the Winnebago.

    ReplyDelete
  16. According to Finebaum.... Bob Stoops is in Tuscaloosa today..

I have a hard time believing that since the Sooners play on 12/31...

  18. Did I hear right yesterday that there is going to be some sort of TMZ for Sports?

If so, damn Tiger Woods! Damn him!

  22. DL - 2.0 has made it as far as philly today. No flights to RDU, but a flight to Greensboro late tonight. Hopefully we'll have her home shortly after midnight.

FSJ- Stone is a lock for Auburn! It must be true since TMZ reported it.

    ReplyDelete
  23. FSJ-Regarding Stone. AU is in on him, but most think he is UAT property all the way. This staff hasn't given up on him, but with the ones they feel they have committed, he is a casualty of not enough room, unless of course he says he wants to come. I think this group of coaches has just about filled all 28 spots.

    He is VERY good.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't care enough about celebrities personal lives to be a fan of TMZ.

I hate when Sportscenter leans in the TMZ direction.

    ReplyDelete
  25. well, I heard from wtc's mom that Stone is AU bound ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  26. I would hate to see Thig go. He is very vitale in the recruitiment of several players, as JayG stated.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks wtc,

There was a discussion about uncommitted folks on Tiderinsider and he was one that mentioned both schools.

From what I can gather both schools are going to have strong classes.

On a related note, the top ten in recruiting according to ESPN is crammed full of SEC schools.

  36. likewise with a Bart Starr viceyversa, FSJ.

    ReplyDelete

  39. Dang. Just call me thread killer.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Meyer and Thigpen coached together at Bowling Green. I think it all depends on what job is offered. If it is a lateral move, I doubt he leaves. If Meyer offers the DC spot, I think he keaves.

At AU he coaches Safties and inside LB's. That is an odd combo. I would bet Meter gives him at least the LB job. But I think he has to throw the CD job in there also to get him to leave.

Not that I follow that stuff, but that is what I was told late today.

    ReplyDelete
  41. BTW-Look for Willie Martinez to show up at Miss St as the DC.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Judt my guess, or is that my mom's take on it.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Nice to see you again, Aero.

Chances on Thig leaving are dependent on which job is offered.

    THT,

When does 2.0's flight leave Philly?

    ReplyDelete
  45. IV - in about 15 minutes. We're leaving for GSO at about that same time.

Ah, The Tales of the Travels of 2.0.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think by now he knows how to interview, so it's not like he's doing it for practice. And with that in mind, why would he interview for a job he didn't want? I'm guessing an enticing position is at stake.

  57. Breaking news from Auburn ...

  59. Matthew (said in Gunsmoke's "Festus" voice) ...

I've had the honor of seeing some atrocious basketball -- actually played on the losing end of a 59-5 game as an 8th grader 31 years ago -- and there were two options last night.

    a. Foul.
    b. Allow the other team to score.

Auburn looks like a team that will finish 6th in the West, but could compete for 3rd in the SWAC West.

  62. 2.0 is in her own bed, sans pillow which is in suitcase somewhere, getting some well-deserved sleep.

USAir has no record of her suitcase being scanned anywhere. It could be in Florence, Munich, or in someone's home in a small Tuscan village. Who knows, it could be sitting at RDU.

    GOOD MORNING HOTTIES!!! WARRRR EAGLE!!!

I don't know how many of y'all will be around today, but I'll catch up with you after 9 EST.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Good Morning, Hotties and Merry Christmas!!!

Tar Heel, so glad that 2.0 made it home for the holidays!

Nice that Thigpen is talking to UF when AU has a bowl game to prepare for...but, whatever. It's all about who's money is talking the loudest - PERIOD.

    ReplyDelete
  64. It's Christmas evening, and in the drunktank, some old man said to me "you won't see another one." And then he sang a song, a rare old mountain dew....

    ReplyDelete
  65. Sources tell us that Willie Martinez interviewed for the vacant Safeties Coach position at Florida, not the Defensive Coordinator. Also, Head Coach Urban
Meyer has interviewed Tommy Thigpen (Auburn Secondary Coach) for the same position.

That was the quote from www.footballcoachscoop.com. I would not think he would move if it is just lateral.

    ReplyDelete
  66. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Wow. Despite what some mays say, that website has a lot of info.

FSJ-They are also saying it looks like Smart is leaning to join UGA as the DC after the bowl game.

Miss St.- interviewed Wmartinez for the DC job. Would you take the Dc job at State or the secondary coach at UF?

    ReplyDelete
  68. THT what a Christmas story....

I have been keeping my wife and the outlaws informed of the journeys of 2.0.... of course being surrounded by women at the outlaws house... they thought what a great lifetime move this could make.....

    Happy Christmas Eve Hotties!!!

I was hoping our coaching staff would stay intact for at least 2 years.

    ReplyDelete
  72. A couple of thoughts ...

    1. I believe the Chiz staff is better paid than the Corch Urban Myers staff at the Gator.

    2. Outside of our little family, who thinks the safeties coaching job with the Gator is an equivalent to the one coaching safeties in Auburn?

    Just sayin'.

Man, I hope Thig farted during his interview.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Good morning from Suffering Spines, errr Southern Pines, retirement mecca in the not so beautiful sandhills of North Carolina.

Thanks to all the Hotties who have passed along their thoughts and prayers for 2.0. And apologies to all the others whom I bored with the almost never-ending saga.

    ReplyDelete
  74. And it wouldn't surprise me if the Loveliest Village is just too small a place for Mrs Thig. I have no knowledge one way or the other, just sayin I wouldn't be surprised.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I do not think thig will jump for 50-100k... I think it will need to be a promo.

If his recruits pay off and we do well next year,,, he will get a dc offer or poss HC for a smaller school.

  171. I'm going to give you a little advice. There's a force in the universe that makes things happen. And all you have to do is get in touch with it, stop thinking, let things happen, and be the ball.

  172. Let me tell you a little story? I once knew a guy who could have been a great golfer, could have gone pro, all he needed was a little time and practice. Decided to go to college instead. Went for four years, did pretty well. At the end of his four years, his last semester he was kicked out... You know what for? He was night putting, just putting at night with the fifteen-year-old daughter of the Dean... You know who that guy was Danny?
