Hey everyone. Gene Chizik just confirmed a few facts.

  • He said Eric Smith missed practice while attending some "academic appointments," but remains on the team.

  • Mike McNeil, who missed the regular season with leg problems, was back on the field Wednesday. He was in pads. ``I think he’s having fun out there. It’s just good to see him running around out there close to full speed," Chizik said.

  • He said Roszell Gayden, the OT from a California junior college, has signed with Auburn. That's four signees today.

  • Here's what Chizik had to say about the two junior-college signees: ``We are really excited about what (Gayden) brings to the table. Brandon Mosley is a great athlete that is a huge tight end/offensive line prospect who we think his potential is unlimited. We think he has some great days ahead of him. He’s such a good athlete he can bring a lot to the table as a tight end or an offensive lineman. We really feel like those two junior college signees have really helped our football team."

  • Antoine "Hot" Carter said he's planning to remove his face tattoos. His right cheek reads "HOT" while his left cheek reads "BOY." Why is he doing that? Carter said it's bad for business.

  • Darvin Adams said he's understated on the field because that's what coaches expect. If they allowed more self-expression? "I'd be dancing like they did in Miami in the old days." Old days == The U circa 1985.

  5. Thanks for finding out about Eric Smith, Jay. That is a relief.

Signing four today is great. I was actually only counting on 3 of them.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Thanks JGT, both of those are great news. I really like Smith's versatility.

  7. The good thing is we are signing quality where we need Quality...

Great video, JGT. I like Moseley. I hope he turns into a star.

I told everyone Gayden was coming...I don't know why there was any questioning there. Our favorite #73 told me Gayden told the team at Thanksgiving dinner at Grimes' house that he was coming.

Good to see it official though! He'll be a starter from day 1 most likely!j0000

  14. Finally finished watching ESPN's "The U" last night. Definitely entertaining, but man, I forgot how much I hated those guys.

The documentary could've done with a little less hyperbole though. Those guys were basically open mouth kissing themselves.

  15. I didn't like Miami during the late 1980s. At all. Then again, I was living in Oklahoma at the time. The Sooners were werkin' those fewls.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I didn't get why the documentary seemed to insinuate that Miami had the only black players in America.

It's not like they were in a Texas Western-Kentucky situation.

    ReplyDelete
  17. They also neglected to mention Lamar Thomas' most embarrassing moment in college...

Auburn is really stepping up the pressure on all SEC opponenets. Keep up the great work.
Wonder if his shortness can maintain his composure with real pressure.

  21. Phred - didn't we sign 5* Raven Gray in December?

I'm glad Darvin is understated and I'm glad that's what the coaches expect. If I wanted to see dancing, I would go to the ballet, or some other cultural crap I don't go to.

  34. man Chris Henry is in serious trouble. He may die. His fiancee apparently tried to leave, he jumped in the back of truck, and she eventually slung him out into the road and left him...or that's what I gathered from ESPN. That's just crazy. He's definitely has problems in the past, but looked to be on the right track. Now he may never be the same again.

  42. Just say no to Newton.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I wish Darvin could dance like the U

    ReplyDelete
  44. That looks very good, D. Miller. Give me another DT or two and I am happy.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I am glad Darvin don't dance (thats called alliteration boys and girls). I don't mind seeing players act excited, like it in fact. But I HATE seeing dancing.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think these coaches have shown that they value integrity. If they feel that Newton deserves a second chance then I am willing to trust that he deserves one. On the other hand I won't cry if he isn't offered one.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Coach Chiz can't afford to go duck hunting. We've got one of our own clamoring for his job.

    ReplyDelete
  48. i agree wakerider.

even with the December signees, we're going to run out of room pretty soon for the '10 class.

Any news on where Lemonier is leaning?

    ReplyDelete
  49. I would like to see Whitt on the defensive staff next time we have some turnover on that side of the ball.

    ReplyDelete
  50. THT-Is he saying Joe Sr deserved a shot at being the DC and or HC?

    What does this quote mean:

"But what he means to that university"

    ReplyDelete
  51. THT-The answer to yuour question is yes.

    ReplyDelete
  52. At first I kinda looked at that funny. But there is definitely a case to be made there, and if I was his son I would feel the same way.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I do think Whitt Sr deserved a more prominent role and Whitt Jr would be a great HC candidate should the position open up in about 10 years. I like hiring good Auburn people when possible.

    ReplyDelete
  54. wtc - the answer to your question is yes

re: my former question, I suspect the direction of said lean would not be my preferred direction?

    ReplyDelete
  55. There is a lean... What would be your preferred direction of said lean? To the left, or to the right?

I'd say he leans a bit to the right.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Right is almost always good.

    ReplyDelete
  57. 787 Dreamliner made first test flight today, btw.

    ReplyDelete
  58. laptop charger is upstairs and i'm too comfy to go get it, so I'm going to call it a night.

    Sweet dreams, Hotties!!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Hopefully a successful test flight?

    ReplyDelete
  60. So will Tyrik and Eric Smith be the starters next fall. They possess some serious talent. It will be interesting. CGC is giving my beloved school a run for its money. here I thought you guys would be down for a while.

Good recruiting class. The SEC keeps getting tougher and tougher.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Steve, first hand knowledge here. Don't hire someone to be your head coach that has never been a head coach. Take if from us. It does not work. See Dubose, See Shula.

    ReplyDelete
  62. First flight test was actually yesterday and it was very successfully. It was quite a relief.

    ReplyDelete
  63. With you guys getting Dyer, I would think seastrunk will go to LSU. Immediate playing time and all.

    ReplyDelete
  64. You have the possibility of three mosleys as well. that would be a record.

make for some cool articles over the next few years as they progress

    ReplyDelete
  65. Mark-With LSU already having 3 RBs, I think Seastrunk looks elsewhere. Just my opinion though.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Agent says Chris Henry is "battling for life" so it appears initial reports were not exaggerated. Keep him in your prayers.

    ReplyDelete
  67. From what I've seen I don't think we are leading the race but I think LSU is farther down the list. Don't I recall the experts (someone unlike WTC) saying he was mainly interested in LSU due to Larry Brown?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Whadda U know, WTC?

    You don't following recruiting.

    ReplyDelete
  69. AU is sitting real good for the following:

    E. Mack-OL from SCarolina
    M. Lattimore-RB form SCarolina
    C. Lemonier-DE from Miami
    J. Whitaker-DL from GA
    R. White-DB from FL

I think that is all they have room for in the 2010 class. They will sign a total of 28 for the 2010 class. That will give them room for 3 not to qualify, which I do nto se that happening, but you never know with HS kids.

    ReplyDelete
  70. With the South Carolina OL coach leaving to become coach at Youngstown State, I wonder what that does for Eric Mack.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Hopefully, it gives him a road map to the loveliest village on the plains.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Time for this old man to call it a day also. I have enjoyed lurking tonight, some very interesting exchanges. Keep up the good work Hotties, I think we are going to enjoy the fruit of this coaching staff's labors this year.

    ReplyDelete
  73. From what I have read, Seastrunk is likely USC (California) bound. LSU signed a couple of good runningbacks and I think the coach going after Seastrunk was the guy who went to Memphis.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I concur with the list WTC put forth... I think we might get a total of 2 DT's (2 of the 3 - Whitaker/Thornton/Jones).

Lattimore, Mack, Lemonier, Whitaker, Thornton/Jones, White...

    ReplyDelete
  75. wtc, if we just get a couple out of that group, it would be great. Get all of them and we might have a top 5 class.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I'll make an off the wall prediction that Cal plays a bigger role in the Seastrunk saga than most anyone thinks... possibly even landing him.

It's really me just talking out of my... but, I think Cal has a legit shot with him.

USC has 3 similar backs committed,
    LSU has 3 backs committed
AU has 1 (2 of you count Howard) and wants Lattimore...

Texas seems to have stopped recruiting him long ago... Maybe he does end up at Baylor... who knows?

    ReplyDelete
  77. DMiller-I agree. That will be a great class for AU. They will need to follow up with a big 2011 class in order to compete at the upper levels.

Someone else had a 3 year plan, it just came together a year earlier. I would be OK with that.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Mark, I am guessing smith will be the starter at RB at least early on. As for the QB, who knows? I have seen predictions of Caudle, heard a lot of positive things about Moseley, and Rollison is the most highly regarded recruit. It will be interesting to see how it works out. This year I feel much more confident we will have a solid QB, regardless of the choice. When it appeared Caudle or Burns would be the starter this season, I was nervous. Todd was a decent QB. I don't think Burns would have been and there was too much of a question about Caudle's decision making.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Unless all three are playing a big game with everyone and Lattimore goes to SCarolina, Seastrunk goes to AU and Dyer stays with AU.

Remember when Seastrunk made the statement that everyone will be very surprised by where everyone signs.

    Just a thought.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Anyone going to the basketball game Tuesday night at AU? I will probably be there. Maybe even go to the game this Sunday. it will be on CSS. Look for me on the front row behind the visitors bench.

    ReplyDelete
  81. As for 3 year plans, I said 4 years and I think 4 years is reasonable. Things are looking up for the coming season, but what will really determine things is what happens with the OL in 2011 and which coaches move on.

Also, there are coaches that build a program and coaches that can maintain a program. It is when the initial excitement dies down that you really get an idea of what you have.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I could be wrong; but, I think Malzahn returns for 2011. Initially, I thought he would be at AU for 2 years and then shop. I think he stays three and gets a head gig.

I think by the third year, he beats us and parlays that into a gig of his own. Just my opinion.

Nothing to base it on, except he is good and ambitious.

    ReplyDelete
  83. I wonder how much Taylor being chained up in the yard and the coaches not being able to contact him for a while affected the recruitment of Seastrunk.

From what I gather, Dye is the pound them back, Lattimore is the all around back, and Seastrunk is the speed guy. That is just the impression I have gotten from reading.

    ReplyDelete
  84. WTC earlier you said Auburn was sitting real good with Lattimore. Now you say he goes to the USCe, what gives?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Everything I have read lately has pointed to Seastrunk to USCw. Lattimore is the guy that I have been reading about us having a better shot at. I can't really see us getting both.

    ReplyDelete
  86. How interested is Malzahn in becoming a head coach? I have read where Taylor is very interested. I keep picturing Malzahn as a geeky guy that just wants to be left alone to play with his offense.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I have seen numerous reporters say he wants a head coaching job... but never seen it from the hours's mouth.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Wake-Only that said that as a thought if these kids were going to pull some major 'gotcha' on everyone. I recall Seastrunk calling out Saban when he was in for the Big Cat Weekend. Later in several interviews he said 'they' were going to surprise everyone on signing day.
    That would be a surprise.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Yea, I wouldn't blame him, but if I were a coach I wouldn't want to be the next Rich Rodriguez and supply another demonstration of the Peter Principle. Regardless of whether he stays or goes, I like Malzahn.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Wake-My original list, way back when, had Seastrunk, Dyer as the RBs. Up until a few weeks ago,I still thought it was Seastrunk. Everywhere I turn, when I go over to AU, I here Seastrunk is not the guy AU wants. I have just found that hard to believe. I will take either back, but just think AU would take either also.

    ReplyDelete
  91. My opinion is Malzahn has to show his offense can work in the upper tier SEC. I think it can, buthe has to get the talent level up to do it. He knows it and I think the college world knows you can't make a call on him until you give him a competitive team to play with. he will have that by 2011 season.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I was of the opinion that we will likely be better in 2010 than 2011 because of the offensive line graduating, but if recruiting keeps going like this, who knows?

    ReplyDelete
  93. I am good for 2011. With the JUCO kids getting playing time, there will be plenty of experience in 2011.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I also thought that Hawthorne and Zachery graduating would hurt, but with this class, we have wide receivers like we never have had before.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Alright WTC I gotcha now. I misunderstood your second post.

My very uneducated mind thinks the laptop thief is a backup for if Ken Adams doesn't make it as January enrollment. But what do I know.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Wake-AU wants Adams but as you see the names Dmiller and I posted, if he doesn't qualify in Dec, they have bigger prospects to pursue. The main thrust here is to get a good player to fill the 5th 2009 slot without looking for a long snapper to fill a scholly. They are still in the hunt for a few others that are Dec grads.

L Gibson, big OL at Hargrave Military.
Irvin-DE/lB in Cal that is a JUCO.
    Cunningham-DB from NY JUCO
These are the ones I can think of this late.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I wouldn't say WR's like we've never had before.

We had the following all on the same team...

    Obomanu
    Aromashadou
    Taylor
    Mix

  100. SteveFC - I'd still take Terry Beasley & Dick Schmalz over any pair of receiver signees.

  101. wtc - if we complete our signing class with players from your list, I will likely wet my breeches.

Wow ..that's kinda nice. I've been wishing for 2 JUCO OL the entire recruiting season, then get stuck traveling/work on early signing day and POOF! ....2 JUCO OL.

If we can enroll most of these kids we have committed, this staff has really made up some lost ground.

WTC ...pleae thank your Mom for sharing.

  112. I want Seastrunk. It seems to me... have no football recruit exp.... in watching the videos of both Seastrunk and Lat, Seastrunk hits the holes faster and is a quick slashing back...

The brad lester type... Dyer is the big boy and Seastrunk is the speed guy in a fannin type role....

  126. Minor problem with our new video player: It doesn't track views well.

In fact, it "reported" that yesterday's practice video received less than 40 views total.

So ... how many of you watched the video yesterday?

    ReplyDelete
  127. D.Miller - I see we're doing this confidence thingie in the HABOTN bowl pick'em. Are we still picking against the spread? Or just picking straight up, regardless of the spread?

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  129. I've watched all the new videos at least once

    ReplyDelete
  130. Sportswriter Tate - I watched the video this morning while I caught up on your fine work. I did notice a problem with the player in that I was not able to pick up the smells of practice. Other than that minor glitch, I thought all was well.

    Sincerely,
    Your friend Norm.

  134. So, if "the divorce is 100% on" does that mean Eldridge returns to golf sooner rather than later?

    ReplyDelete
  135. Tiger needs to work now.

Damn right he'll be back on the links.

With that said, I'm 100% convinced that he had some kind of agreement with Elin surrounding his extracurricular activity. There's no way he could hide all of this stuff from her.

I'll bet the deal was: Hit whatever you want, just use protection and DON'T GET EMOTIONALLY INVOLVED.

Then he got involved. That's a wrap.

    ReplyDelete
  136. I was thinking about that. I wonder if the agreement was "do whatever, just don't let it become public, because that's humilating." Perhaps one of the girls was threatening to go public, Elin got a whif of it and freaked out.

    ReplyDelete
  137. I forgot to watch the video -1

    ReplyDelete

  139. I kept hoping to see Moseley take some snaps on camera, but alas, I guess a true freshman getting a redshirt isn't granted that privilege.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I didn't get to stick around long enough to see Moseley taking real snaps.

We get kicked out after ... stretching, basically.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Peter, the full-screen stuff wasn't good yesterday. I had to load a flash movie (lower quality) because the full-screen stuff wouldn't load.

    So it goes.

  143. Jay,

I agree with you about the "arrangement"...I'd probably also add that there was an agreement that nothing would become public and embarrass her...

Once it did, the gloves were off.

I think many pro stars have similar arrangements.

In 1950 Lou Groza led the NFL in field goal percentage and Alex Groza led the NBA in field goal percentage.

I was noticing that Apple has 27 inch refurb iMacs on their website now.

    They are awfully tempting.

  149. well, I'm glad I scanned the Outback Bowl tickets. 3 days after mailing them, there's no indication that any have arrived at their destination. I would have thought the Atlanta area addressees would have received theirs by today.

If any Hotties know anyone that follows recruiting, please ask them about the Juco QB .. Cam Newton. Rated 5 star, 6'-6", 245, 4.5-40, 38" vertical. He is purportedly taking an official visit to AU this weekend.

We got a lot of QBs on the Plains right now. Is this guy so good that we add another?

    ReplyDelete
  152. Jimmy,

I know about that issue but I would guess that since they are selling refurbs they have probably resolved the issue.

    Good point though.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Hoopie,

I hear that wtc has a gardener or someone that follows recruiting.

    ReplyDelete
  154. I understand that WTC was to be Secretary of Recruiting for the Obama Administration, but the nomination was scuttled when it was discovered that he hadn't withheld Social Security taxes on his Brazilian "gardener," Carmela.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Newton probably has only 2 years of eligibility left. I'd prefer to stick with Rollison/Moseley/Trotter and use that scholarship for another position. Of course, I don't know anything about running a football team, so I'll trust CGC on this.

    ReplyDelete
  156. That's funny right there, I don't care who you are.

I'm sorry, I just can't side with the consensus here...I want Newton on the roster.

I know the argument is that he only has 2 seasons left, but when was the last time we had a 5 star type guy for even 2 seasons? Who's the last guy to start more than 2 seasons period?

I don't know if it's just me having ZERO faith in what we have on the roster, or the fact that Newton looks like a MAN, I want him...YESTERDAY!

    ReplyDelete
  160. Here's the deal re Newton:

If there was any sense of confidence in Caudle or Trotter (or Moseley), the coaches wouldn't be bothering with Newton. The Rollison Express has jeopardized himself.

If they think Newton can step in and go, and if they he can behave himself, by all means, bring him in.

    ReplyDelete
  161. If he can play and contribute right away, sign him, give him a jersey and a playbook and let him go.

    ReplyDelete
  162. RK...you go to the UTC-Tech game earlier this week? I did and was disappointed in the attendance.

I still remember the day when Mocs Basketball was a premier ticket in town, i.e., the McCarthy Era. Those were good times.

The Newton situation has a potential for:
    ...opportunity ..dilemma ..or needless distraction.

The coaches will earn their pay figgering this one out.

if his rambunctiousness and misdemeanorin' is behind 'im," then it'll be all right.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Not for nothin' but do you think the staff may be a little leary of having to deal with Newton's past indiscretions? I understand second chance, but do they want to deal with it? Of course if he wants to come to Auburn, he will know how things are handled by the precedence already set by Chiz & Co.

    ReplyDelete
  166. We ain't got a radio.

    ReplyDelete
  167. I guess you just gotta look him in the eye and let him know it is over then Pappy.

    ReplyDelete
  168. So what's the Newton deal? What did he do in his past?

    E-Bro,

I was there and Mocs basketball is dead. The only big crowd they have had in 3 or 4 years was when the Vols came to town.

if Caudle was an above average QB, he'd have played some already. He isn't, never will be.

Trotter, Moseley, and Rollison haven't seen any time yet. Neither Trotter or Moseley have impressed me on tape--or many others, not like they were blue chip prospects. Rollison on the other hand has the talent level I'd like to see for the Malzahan offense, but his head and brain obviously leave a bit to be desired.

This kid Newton looks like a BEAST! He was/is rated as a BEAST. You can't tell me he's not more talented than what we have at our disposal...especially if he counts against last year's numbers scholly wise.

    ReplyDelete
  173. RK...I know. And that's despite making the tourney twice in the last four or five years. So sad.

  176. E-Bro,

It doesn't look like attendance at the 1-AA championship game tomorrow is going to be very good either.

Montana has promised 3,000 and Nova has promised 1,000. That leaves 16,000 tickets that need to be filled by the Nooga.

    ReplyDelete
  177. I do not think Newton is visiting. I heard a rumor he was, but this staff has plenty of QB options now. Besides, they are sitting great with two of the top QB's for 2011.

No ne has called today to say he was visiting, but I did hear last night that he was not scheduled to visit.

mytommy ....read the 8:40 post. LOL

I live in Ga, so I guess the laptop is secure.

I'm outta here and off to Ellijay, Ga to present a rezoning case to the Planning Comission. Gotta love the Ga mtns culture clash. Some real back-ards type original inhabitants mixed with all the city folk that have moved in.

If anyone has ever seen the cartoon "Squidbillies" on Cartoon Network Adult Swim. This is where the cartoon characters abide.

  179. Jay 'W Not Tate' queried: but when was the last time we had a 5 star type guy for even 2 seasons?

    And here is the answer.

    ReplyDelete
  180. RK...I saw that. Eyewitness News was putting out a plea earlier for Chattanooga residents to gobble up the tickets and help fill the seats.

Don't think it will happen and it means the Noog will probably lose the game too.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Rollison on the other hand has the talent level I'd like to see for the Malzahan offense, but his head and brain obviously leave a bit to be desired.

But Cam "Isaac" Newton, he's a genius. Knows to throw the ill-gotten gains out the window when the cops come knockin'.

    ReplyDelete
  182. if I was in the noog, I'd definitely be at the game. But alas, I'm not. And sadly, neither is Happy Appy.

    ReplyDelete
  183. What's the problem with the guy? So he stole a laptop. It's not like he stole the foreskins of unsuspecting boys in the Philippines.

  184. this thread has struggled all day. Norm, if you're out there, you may have to put it all on your shoulders.

btw, what happened to Roosevelt Franklin, the apprentice page flipper?

    ReplyDelete
  185. Yeah, I'll actually be in THT country myself and won't be able to attend. It hurt Chattanooga a lot when Appy AND William & Mary lost last weekend, but more so with Appy.

    ReplyDelete
  186. E-Bro,

They were giving away tickets today at work to try to get people in the seats.

Bad year with it being a contract year for App State or Ga Southern not to be in the game as they always brought huge crowds.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Flip the page sometime?

    ReplyDelete
