Hey everyone. Byron Isom tweeted early this morning that all tests are negative on his injured knee. It has been diagnosed as a strained tendon and he is receiving treatment this morning.
TWITTER BONUS: Yesterday was PPL's 20th birthday. Some Tigers celebrated.
The tickets are here the tickets are here!!!!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I must shop today.
ReplyDeleteThat's great news on Byron.
ReplyDeleteI will not pout, I will not pout, I will not pout...that I can't go to the OB bowl. If it weren't so unbecoming for a woman to pout, I would!
Jet,
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I am cooking for a party tonight. I would love to go shopping!
If you all are on Twitter and not following Chad Ochocinco, you're worse for it.
ReplyDeleteThat guy is my Twiro.
I had to shop last night... Its not a good time.
ReplyDeleteKinda cool the local sports clothing store had all the Auburn stuff displayed in front.
Thoughtsw for the weekend:
ReplyDelete1. Cameron Newton- Yes, he is a monster in size and potential and he could come in and play right away. But it scares me with his past, I dont buy his dads excuse, he knew the laptop was stolen. To get kicked off of Floridas team is harsh as Urban Meyer keeps all the criminals usually. If we do sign Newton, mark it down, they must know something about Tyrik and his suspension. If there is nothing with Tyrick, then look for Trotter or Mosely to transfer. That would mean 5 qbs, which is too many.
2. Eric Smith- Man I guess between court cases and catching passes out of the backfield he didnt have time for class. I mean cmon no excuse. Life gives you plenty of chances and you have to make the most of it.
3. Public Administration degrees - I have noticed several athletes have this major. Is this becoming the new Criminal Justice degree. Thats sad as that was what my Masters degree was in and it didnt seem easy to me.
4. December recruits- glad to see the four we have. Curry should step in and help this spring as with Herring and Pybus's injuries we dont know if they will be available. Sanders can learn a few things from the guys on the defensive line. The two juco guys can give our first team senior offensive line some competition and rest.
5. Tim Hawthorne- I dont blame him for not coming back. With the emergence of the new guys and even younger ones coming in his bid for playing time was slim. Wish him the best. Fine example of how being a four or five star doesnt always work out.
6. Senior Bowl Invites-Being a Mobile resident I cant wait to see Tate and Coleman head down this way. I had hope McFadden would get a shot, but maybe he can make one of the other bowls.
Happy Holidays people.
Jay I love the beetlejuice Avatar.
Also has anyone seen the new Avatar movie? Thinking of checking it out today. Not sure if its going to be groundbreaking or nauseating.
THT, if a plane left Munich, it isn't landing at Philly and probably not New York.
ReplyDeleteVisibility is less than 1/4 mile here. Almost nothing is moving.
Just because athletes are taking it, does it mean it's easy? I think PA is a great major for football players. They're building a brand, leaning to network with the various groups, and hopefully learning public speaking while in the spotlight during their college years. That's a lot more hands on experience than most PA majors get, plus the in-class stuff everyone else is getting...
ReplyDelete...ahh, who am I kidding? Those guys don't go to class or learn anything.
Yea! mytommyd!!!
ReplyDeleteYea! Byron!!!! Thanks, JGT.
NoVa - a plane did leave Munich today for Philly, ETA 3:35 pm. I've been watching to see where they divert it. I would have hoped CLT if 2.0 had made her connection. But alas, diverting it to Thule is fine with me.
Good news about Isom, although he doesn't sound likely for the bowl.
ReplyDeleteI just saw that we've been upped to a blizzard warning. I decided to cancel my walk up to the post office. The goodies can just get there late.
NoVa - where's the adventuresome spirit? Something you can tell the grandkids about? Of course, if the post office is closed...not much point.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that all is well with Isom.
ReplyDeleteI am glad that I am scheduled to get 20-30" of snow, and live in downtown Baltimore. Of course the city will be paralyzed but hey, we are talking historic here.
JayG-Maybe next time there is a birthday, some of you shold go stand the post at the Lexington or another club to get the scoop on the next birthday bash brawl. maybe since school is out there were not enough people around to get a good fight going.
ReplyDeleteAU-I have a friend whose son is at the Naval Academy and is supposed to fly out of Baltimore @5:20pm. Think he will get out of there tonight?
ReplyDeleteI wish Global Warming would leave us alone. I guess snow is just a thing of the past. I mean 20-30 inches thats nothing.
ReplyDeleteMy adventuresome spirit is staying warm. The likelyhood that the post office is closed making it wasted trip is a contributing factor.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping that the government is closed Monday and I'll get an extra holiday.
wtc - good luck finding out...
ReplyDelete"BWI Marshall Airport website is experiencing problems, perhaps due to heavy traffic. Customers seeking flight info should check w/ airlines.
BWI_Airport - twitter.com - 3 minutes ago"
yeah, check with airlines, that's a good one.
wtc, Reagan has 1 runway open and Dulles is trying to get one open. I haven't heard about BWI but they have the same blizzard warning until 6. Most flights in the area are cancelled already.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is he'll be doing good to get out Monday.

wtc - The Chicago Bears didn't make it in for an NFL game tomorrow with the Ravens.
ReplyDeleteI would say, most likely not....but, they did say that some flights were going in and out sporadicly (sp?)
This is why all the big bowl games are in the Sunbelt.
ReplyDeleteNice substantial comments PWDT.
ReplyDeleteSince Cam Newton should now be on campus, I'll repost my comment from earlier in the week.
Hoopie said...
The Newton situation has a potential for:
...opportunity ..dilemma ..or needless distraction.
The coaches will earn their pay figgering this one out.
1:01 PM
So, will Isom be at the bowl game? It sounds like the problem isn't as bad as first thought, but I suppose they don't want to make it worse.
ReplyDeleteCan anyone confirm Newsome is actually visiting?
ReplyDeleteI have mixed feelings about him but will trust Chiz and Gus on this.
Through Lufthansa, I've learned that 2.0 did board the flight out of Florence this afternoon. Theoretically, she's somewhere in Munich, or the Munich airport, for who knows how long. Based on all the sold out flights, I'm guessing she'll be real lucky to get here tomorrow... more likely on Mon or Tues.
ReplyDeleteNewton that is.
ReplyDeleteIn order to ensure marital bliss ...I have agreed to go shopping ....starting in 1 hour and going until the stores close.
ReplyDeleteThis adventure will require a trip to a large outlet mall, a regular mall with an extended meal stop in between.
This is the shopping life my girls enjoy. I guess sharing in their world once a year isn't too bad ...wonder if they'll go bass fishing with me next spring?
At that age, camping in an airport is an adventure. Worrisome for you she'll remember it as good times.
ReplyDeleteTHT ..do European airlines put weather-stranded passengers up in hotels?
ReplyDeleteHopefully the new security rules have allowed 2.0 to carryon some essentials.
NoVa ...Munich airport should be a safe place to camp. Should be a good maturation experience.
ReplyDeleteIn the early 80's, Ms Hoopie and I travelled from Delray Bch to the Keys for the 4th weekend in a single cab pickup with another couple ..and no AC! 4 young fools packed in the pickup cab. Amazingly, we are still close friends with that couple and love to recall events from that weekend.
Hopefully we'll get newton and have a qb that can truly run downhill and break the contain mans tackle on an option. I wouldn't care if we lined up in the wishbone or notre dame box with this guy at qb. I don't care about a laptop he stole at 18 yrs old. I trust he's put it behind him and found his focus, enough to win a juco national championship. Him on the field for us means a lot better chance of our defense staying rested up as well. This is a pickup that will help get us back to Atlanta this upcoming year or the next.
ReplyDeleteGetting Newton bothered me at first, but seeing how Chizik has shown no qualms about giving the player the boot, I am not as concerned. I am sure he will be watched closely.
ReplyDeleteI am up in the smokies, by a fire, with it snowing outside the cabin, but I still need my AU info.
ReplyDeleteSo is Hawthorne not coming back? And is the QB visiting this weekend an issue for some on you b/c of his past?
MrsTHT and I are back from some errands. Thankfully, MrsTHT hates shopping at least as much as I do.
ReplyDeleteWhile we were out, 2.0 called me on my cell to let us know she was safe and sound in Munich. Hotel with dinner & breakfast provided. Chances of getting on tomorrow's flight to CLT are slim, but we'll hope for the best. We're just happy to know she's safe. When some strange man answered her cell phone I got worried. 2.0 informs us she accidentally left it in the back seat of the taxi in Florence. oops. I assume the airline let her use their phone line to call.
eaglesteeler - his past is of minor concern, assuming that was an isolated incident. I don't know anything about him. The bigger concern is bringing a guy in who will be starting from zero in Gus Malzahn's system, has only 2 years to play, and is a 5*. Our recent history with 5* recruits has not been overwhelmingly positive.
ReplyDeleteTrue. But if he was in a system similar in Fl and in JC, then Malzahn's will be fine. Plus he will be in for spring practice, which gives him a leg up. Even Todd w/o spring won the starting qb in the fall in Malzahns offense.
ReplyDeleteWe will see. It is going to be hard for the other qbs who are working hard to be THAT guy. Caudle, Trotter, and even Rollinson, will not like it and I wonder who would leave since if this guy signs he has 2 yrs.
Newton is visiting this weekend, yes.
ReplyDeleteTodd won the job last season because of the competition that he had. He is a solid QB, but not great. We just didn't have very good options last season.
ReplyDeleteNewton would really make the QB race interesting. It is already going to be very heated. This year we have a much better group of QBs. Yea, Caudle and Trotter were in the competition last year, but they weren't obvious choices.
I haven't read much positive about Caudle in a while, so my guess is he isn't the obvious choice for next season. The more I read, the more I am thinking he won't be the guy.
The intriguing thing is Moseley and Trotter. Trotter has learned a lot. I was surprised to find out he was at every game this season. He probably has as good of a knowledge of the offense as anyone since he was very involved in the play calling, although he lacks field experience. He has a better shot than I first thought.
Moseley is starting to look like the favorite in my book. I have just read a lot of good things about him and the job he did with the scout team. He has added about 20 pounds and is around 220, which is a good size for a QB. His lack of experience with the offense and slowness in comparison to Caudle and Rollison are probably the biggest knock against him.
Rollison is the huge question mark. Getting in trouble didn't help his case at all. He has the best speed and good height, although I wonder if he has bulked up a bit. I think he was in the 185-190 range. He could use some more bulk. He is probably the best running QB we have, including Kodi. If his arm lives up to expectations and he puts on a bit more weight, he will be tough to beat.
Now we throw Newton in the mix. The guy is a beast. He makes Tebow look small and is very quick for his size. I think he runs a 4.58/40 which is blazing for a QB that is nearly 250 pounds. He ain't Bo, but being 6'4" makes him one heck of an all around QB. There is a video on youTube of him pancaking a UT player, I think a DB. This guy could be scary good.
Ok, so if Cameron Newton does come do we sway him with a Mac or a PC?
ReplyDeleteDiscuss...
Sorry for blogging your blog, Jay. Sometimes I run off at the fingers.
ReplyDeleteMy guess is that Cam probably screams and runs away any time he sees a laptop these days.
ReplyDeleteYea, he probably prefers desktops now. safe bet.,
ReplyDeleteJay or anyone,
Does Lebo see the inside of the new arena next year or only as he drives by it leaving town??
There is a big decision for Jay Jacobs in the next year.
the promise of the arena, even if only verbal, was pretty much part of the deal. He deserves at least one year in the new arena for having to put up with BEMC about 4 years too much.
ReplyDeleteCollege football in 30 minutes!!! I have several cousins and uncles who are Wyoming graduates, so GO COWBOYS!!!
ReplyDeleteGo Cowboys? Like broke back mountain cowboys or john wayne cowboys?
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing John Wayne Cowboys.
ReplyDeleteNoVa - plane from Munich to Philly ended up in Pittsburgh. Wow, those passengers were lucky. I mean, who wouldn't prefer to go to Pittsburgh instead of Philadelphia?
I guess Jess Harper & Slim Sherman Cowboys would be more appropriate. I loved that show when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteI watched Roy Rogers and the Lone Ranger.
ReplyDeleteI figured the plane would have to go south or west. I guess they tried to keep it in the same state.
I did a walk around the building. It's a little hard to tell with the blowing and drifting, but I'd guess around a foot. It's still snowing but lighter and the radar indicates it should taper off in a few hours.
I don't think Newton would automatically get the job, but he'd be the front runner for sure. I think Rollison and Mosely would give him a run for it. Caudle and Trotter not so much.
ReplyDeleteIf he's as advertised, it could really change the complexion of the next 2 seasons.
What may eliminate Trotter is I believe he is the slowest of the four, although I read where Malzahn likes how he runs the read option. Trotter could end up being one of those kids that play very little but ends up being a coach.
ReplyDeleteI would give Newton the edge if he comes, too. He has played in an SEC game and got plenty of experience at the junior college last season. The biggest thing is I can't see a negative about him. Even though he won't be the fastest QB, when you look at the size to speed ratio, you can't really beat the combination.
I hope the coaches are not letting thjose five stars blind the and have done their homework. One thing this team does not need is a distraction or bad apple in the barrel. The wrong guy in this situation can do a whole lot more harm than good.
ReplyDeleteI know nothing about the situation and less about the interview the coaches had with him. Just saying I hope they know what they are doing.
digger, I agree. The number of stars has nothing to do with who starts. So far I get the impression that Moseley has the best chance, but we shall see. Rollison will get a chance to prove himself. I just haven't heard a lot from the coaches on him.
ReplyDeleteAs for players getting in trouble, if Newton gets in trouble he will be gone quicker than Mount Cody heading to the all you can eat buffet.
SteveFC I agree he will be on a short chain. But if that happened it would be a wasted Scholly. But we have had some of those before.
ReplyDeleteJay or someone with more knowledge than me...
ReplyDeletePlease explain to me how this travel allowance works for bowl games.
Apparently UA voted to travel to California as a team. But by doing so they give up around a $1000 per player. Is this the way it is typically done?
Travel
they should've traveled with their agents...
ReplyDeleteI don't think they can just pocket this money. It may have to do with cost of plane fare individually as apposed to group travel.
ReplyDeletedid they announce what conferences refs are calling the New Mexico Bowl? Flags a flyin' looks familiar.
ReplyDelete...but if they found a $200 flight, they could've pocketed $800 of it. REC employs some travel agents, so I would guess the average ticket price would've been around twenty bucks if they had gone that route. :-)
ReplyDeleteCould be PF I was just taking a guess at a normal situtation of me going as an individual or with a retired group. To California it would be close to that $1000.
ReplyDeleteI flew roundtrip to LA for $215 in October...
ReplyDeleteDoes that$1000 count towards rooms, too? Surely the players wouldn't be allowed to make their own room reservations.
digger, if I understand correctly, Newton would enroll early and count against the 2009 signing class, which still has two open spots. If that is the case, the loss of scholly isn't a big deal.
ReplyDeleteI thought there was only one spot Steve?
ReplyDeleteThen airfare has dropped significantly. I flew round trip with a group 2 years ago for $460 and when I use to fly for a company it was $1150. Now that isn't $1000 but if you threw in a couple of meals that they could have to buy it does approach it. So maybe you could pocket a few bucks .
ReplyDeleteFSJ-I think the players are ususally told to be at a certain location at a certain time. Say the hotel they are staing in by this time on this date and you get there however you get there. They get reimbursed for the travel expense. If they go as a team, no so. The team picks up all the travel.
ReplyDeleteThat is my understanding, but I do not follow the travel habits of college teams)
LETS GO COWBOYS BEAT THE SAINTS!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe had five open spots and have signed four, so newton would be number 5
ReplyDeleteSteveFC in that case if he took a Scholly that would be lost anyway you are right.
ReplyDeleteI know here in our band at auburn if you live closer to tampa than you do to auburn or if your flying in from say, maryland you can just meet the rest of the band at the hotel, but if your closer to auburn you travel together to tampa
ReplyDeleteDigger-AU had 5 slots for the 2009 class. They have filled 4 of them. If they offer Newton and he accepts, he will be the 5th and final recruit for 2009.
ReplyDeleteSteve is correct on the idea that if he screws up and is dismissed, it shoul dnot hurt us as it is a scholly we are going to lose anyway if it is not used. The only thing that you can think of to effect this is if they signed a different kid and he did work out, then it is not lost.
Fearless-We have a friend from North Al in the band and he has to travel back to AU and ride the bus to Tampa.
ReplyDeleteyes i have to drive back from mobile and then ride the bus to tampa and i just love travel
ReplyDeletewhat instrument do you play?
ReplyDeleteMy family's freind palys the tuba.
Yea, one spot seems to be right. I keep thinking we only signed three, but it was four.
ReplyDeleteThe only negative I would see would be loosing a scholarship for an experienced player, but I don't think that is critical.
I do believe that next season we won't have a depth issue, but rather an experience issue. Get another DL and another DB and we seem to be pretty set. Another OL or LB wouldn't hurt, but I really like how this staff has filed needs with this class.
Steve-I won't go into al lthe details but here is what AU is looking to do to fill out this class:
ReplyDelete1 running back
1 Defensive end
1 offensive lineman
1 defensive lineman
They have 26 signed now, minus 4 for 2009 leaves 22 for 2010. If they get those 4, AU will fill the class. They will then get 3 more commits to get the total for 2010 to 28, which is the limit. Those 3 extra will be used to fill in for anyone that fails to qualify. At this time, i think that will be only person, but there is till one semester of HS left.
RUmor has it that Lattimore and a teammate will be in town either late tonight or early Sunday. They are playing in an all star game and have been rumored to be leaving after the game to come to AU for a couple of days.
ReplyDeleteI am sure someone will keep you posted if that happens.
I'm not sure of that, wtc.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that why I listed as rumor. It would be a tough haul for that to happen.
ReplyDeleteAnother runningback would make sense, especially sense I consider Eric Smith's position with the team shaky. I assumed they would have a spot for Lattimore or Seastrunk. If they both decide to come, they would make room for that too.
ReplyDeleteThis New Mexico Bowl has turned into a very entertaining game.
ReplyDeleteHoly Cow!!! Wyoming just had one of the best goal line stands I have seen. Stopped them on four tries from the one!!!
ReplyDeleteI think Auburn has at least two current commitments who will not qualify. So 26 will not fill the class.
ReplyDeletewtc- i play the baritone
ReplyDeleteThat was a great game. Glad that kicker didn't lose it for them.
ReplyDeletethat makes me 0-1 in picking bowl games
ReplyDeleteJayG - I think I meant the ones listed will fill the class assuming the all qualify. If not the next three will fill in those spots that do not make it.
ReplyDeleteHow 'bout them Cowboys?!
ReplyDeleteJust in time for...
BEASLEY!!!
ReplyDeleteI will admit the bringing in of CNewton is puzzling to me. If he signs, does he bring a skill set that we do not curently have on campus? Besides being big, is he faster than Rollinson, stronger arm than Rollinson or Moseley, more dynamic than either of them? I know Malzahn really wanted him. I certianly would not question their decision, I just wish I knew what they were thinking.
ReplyDeleteOf course he hasn't been offered yet and has not committed. This all may be for nothing. We should know by Thursday, if not earlier. (like Monday)
ReplyDeleteat least we know, or hopefully know, that Newton wouldn't be bringing in a bum shoulder.
ReplyDeleteTrue. maybe he has the leadership skills that Malzahn is looking for.
ReplyDeleteGood Saturday practice report (freebie) from autigers.com
ReplyDeleteLet's see ...
ReplyDeleteCandidate A -- Played one year at a SEC school as a backup on a national title team, got in trouble for stealing a laptop, was kicked off the team, transferred to a JUCO and won a national championship.
Candidate B -- Redshirted as a freshman, got in trouble for undisclosed reasons and has never played a down in a college or junior college game.
Rollison may be the bomb, but if there's serious interest in Newton from our staff, then that's a sign, a letter, a billboard, an email, a Facebook post, and a shout from the mountaintop that Tyrik might not be all that and a Hamburger King cheeseburger.
2 real good hockey teams tied at 1-1 with 13 minutes to go in the 3rd period.
ReplyDeletePenguins @ Sabres
hearing 5 star JUCO QB Cameron Newton commited 6'6 235 runs around a 4.6...yikes
ReplyDeletedid Chad Ochocinco tweet that to you, jhag?
ReplyDeletecrap. Sabres start a powerplay with 2 minutes to go in game. HANG ON PENGUINS!!!
ReplyDeletewhew, Pens kill it. Now go to OT for second consecutive game.
ReplyDeleteAU football team going to see the Lightning play in Tampa, I think on the 26th after they arrive in Tampa.
oh no, Sabres back on power play in OT. That's 4 on 3, lots of open ice.
PENS WIN in a Shoot-out!!!
ReplyDeleteI hate shoot outs. If I wasn't going to be out of town I would definitely be going to that Lightning game and looking for Auburn players.
ReplyDeleteDon't get too excited over Rollison or Newton. Stars aren't everything and it is no telling what will happen. I do see why they would want Newton. He has uncommon speed for a guy that is nearly 250 pounds. Good hieght at 6'4". He appears to have a good arm with a quick release from what I have seen. But when it comes down to it, it will be who does it in practice and I can very easily see Moseley or Rollison as the guy. I thought Caudle the favorite and he still probably has a shot, but there is a better chance it will be someone else.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to sleep. Good night, Hotties!
ReplyDeleteI am getting more and more agitated that I don't get the NFL network.
ReplyDeleteNewton would bring experience, even if it's JUCO that's lacking in the current choices. His size and speed are impressive.
ReplyDeleteIf you are a coach, you have to put him in the mix if you can. He's not automatic for the starting job, but he brings things the others don't and broadens your choices.
Kickers.
ReplyDeleteI know one thing, I don't want to be a kicker facing NO with a game icing kick in the 4th quarter.
ReplyDeleteDallas pulled it off.
ReplyDeleteSo I'm reading newton is ours as well...
ReplyDeleteI remain skeptical.
Good morning, Hotties!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Newton had an official visit in '07. Where are y'all reading that he committed?
We have no idea if 2.0 got on the flight from Munich to Charlotte 2 hours ago. I guess we'll find out this afternoon.
THT.... Bet you are going to be glad to see 2.0... just finished reading all the threads... what a trip....
ReplyDeleteas long as she makes it by xmas
Where are yall getting the Newton stuff. Auburn sports.com just says it seems likly AU is the most likely team to beat.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteAuburn sports has Newton Commiting on Chrismas eve.
ReplyDeleteSorry Jay W had the wrong user name in its MikeyC
ReplyDeletewell, false hope. Lufthansa told me she boarded the flight. Just now 2.0 bought internet and says she's in Munich with no prospect of flying to the U.S. in the foreseeable future (next 2 days).
ReplyDelete2.0's gonna be stuck in Munich forever. Her passport's going to expire, and she'll have no way of getting a new one. She'll eventually build a little hut in the corner in terminal 2, sell knick knacks to tourists, and write a book with her story. The bar in terminal 2 will become an Auburn Bar on Saturday evenings/Sunday mornings.
ReplyDelete...and how the heck does Lufthansa get that wrong? You need to call customer service, complain about the false hope, and demand free travel vouchers.
ReplyDeleteis this a Tom Hanks movie???
ReplyDeleteQB physical skills are important, but knowing your own offense, recognizing defenses and decision making are more important. If Newton commits, I'm betting that spring drills won't give the coaches enough looks for the QB race to be decided.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the over/under on the # of HABTON QB discussions next summer?
10,000 or so.
ReplyDelete...and that's just initiated by SteveFC!
ReplyDeletezing
I hung that curve ball on purpose for ya PF. It's good to know that we could count on you take it yard. Extended QB discussions drive me nuts.
ReplyDeleteGonna go sing in the choir. later.
Too funny.
ReplyDeleteSince the QB discussions are starting in December, I'd say PF's number is way low.
ReplyDeleteIs Newton the Christmas commit that has been rumored?
ReplyDeleteAnd we got 21"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIzbTtRNQkM
ReplyDeletesaw this on another blog (sorry for my wandering eyes..)
pure cheese
Oh, and good morning all!
ReplyDeleteDL - you should receive a liftime ban for that
ReplyDeleteMikeyC--where'd your see that, in the War Room?
ReplyDeleteDL - That is time I will never get back
ReplyDeleteWhat is funny is they watched it, looked at each other and said...
ReplyDeleteThat is great... lets post it on youtube and people will think we are cool.
yea right..
As far as Newton any person who knows recruiting will take the following into account.
ReplyDeleteFlorida recruited him and they typically do not recruit crap.
He went to JUCO and won a national champ. Winning is winning not mater what level it takes a mindset and leadership.
He had the wherewithal to throw the laptop out the window, which means he will not take a sack and is smart enough to throw the ball away. you cannot teach that...
The perils of 2.0. Gonna make a good story. I'll be glad for you and Mrs, THT when she finally makes home.
ReplyDeleteThanks, IV. She's sitting in the Munich airport, she reports Lufthansa folks were wonderful, but now she's stuck with US Air folks who are terrible. She's in a line that moved 10 "squares" in 2 hours with 40 more "squares" to go.
ReplyDeleteDL - that analogy is priceless. Your lifetime ban should be lifted.
Trying to catch up.
ReplyDeleteFirst, safe travels to 2.0. I know Mr. & Mrs. THT have to be very anxious parents.
DL, excellent observation of Newton's skills! I want a QB that won't take a sack!
JGT, what 2 current commits will not qualify?
DL's analogy is good but it doesn't give me back the 6 horrible seconds I wasted on that link.
ReplyDeleteNorm, I didn't follow the link. Glad I didn't!
ReplyDeleteThe administrator at tharinger.com has reported that Newton committed. I have zero idea if that's credible at all, but just thought I'd pass it along.
ReplyDeleteI have to say I have an absolutely wonderful husband. While I've been working 12-hr days, he's been doing the Christmas shopping. He's done a fantastic job, and I was able to go with him yesterday to do some fun shopping. No pressure on me at all. If I could get him tickets to the National Championship game for Christmas, I would send that man to CA.......NOT!!! The championship game is the best of both worlds for him. He is now and always will be a Bama fan, but his #2 team has always been TX. Either way, he is getting a championship shirt.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I'm pulling for the shirt colored orange.
ReplyDeleteInteresting news JGnotT
ReplyDeleteYum! Buttermilk biscuits and sausage gray for breakfast on a cold morning!
ReplyDeleteBuses aren't running and metro is still only below ground so I can't get over to the Mall for pictures.
if newton did commit, he may have done so privately. he has said before he would wait until the 24th or 25th to be a xmas present to the team he picked. i'd like a qb with a little confidence and attitude for a change. chiz's willingness to point to the exit sign does not worry me too much about the dude's past.
ReplyDeletenow we at least have some options with some time in the system under their belts. i would much rather have an experience problem than a depth problem. inexperienced players can have mad talent. no players have no talent.
newton: job is his to lose.
trotter & mosley: this is where the real battle for a spot on the team will take place.
caudle: fading...xfer or signal in the plays. he's only 3-4 knee injuries away from starting.
rollison: ?
cooper: 0% he may get a rep at qb as promised and then switch to lb or de.
we may end up with more QBs on the roster than UA-T has LBs
ReplyDelete2.0 going to try to get a full refund and return flight to FLR. (Passengers in Europe have much better rights for compensation than in US). IF she can accomplish that, I can get her a ticket for flight on Christmas Day for only a tiny bit more than I paid for her currently useless ticket.
Tales of 2.0 take a terrible turn.
ReplyDeletei think trotter was close to full speed by the end of the season. his injury was in the spring so he had already fully recovered. he was just wearing a knee brace on the sidelines holding up the billboard of numbers. he should be ready to roll in spring.
ReplyDeleteif any of the qbs besides caudle leave, rollison may the least damaging. he obviously has more short term upside than mosley or trotter, but i am a lot more confident AU can develop a solid and consistent leader from both of them better than rollison. think matt grothe from usf. he has won more games in JH than any of our next qbs except caudle (1-0).
Matt Grothe is probably not your best example for consistency.
ReplyDeleteAnd actually Matt Grothe is an argument for Rollison or Newton. Grothe early enrolled at USF hoping to be the starting QB from day one, then was arrested in the spring.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to 2.0 on her travels of a thousand nightmares. I can tell you from experiences it gets old in a hurry. Young or older it wears you out. Hope she can get back to near square one and have a better trip from there. Young lady, mom and dad my thoughts and prayers are with each of you.
ReplyDeleteThanks, digger. The biggest problem is neither 2.0 nor we can even speak to a US Air person. We've been on hold for two hours so far, she's been at the airport for 8 hours today, not to mention the time she spent there yesterday. So they'll have to provide her another night in a hotel when they could have put her on any of several flights back to FLR today.
ReplyDeleteMy experiences with USAIR have never been good. I avoided them when I could but did have to use them on occasion. I could tell a few stories but that would do no good here.
ReplyDeleteI miss Piedmont Airlines
ReplyDeleteThem and Eastern. I had a good friend in Huntsville whose daughter was a stewardist for about 23 years for Eastern plus I had good service until their last two years.
ReplyDeleteI am flying over seas in 2 days, reading all this is not getting me excited for this flight. Good Luck to 2.0
ReplyDeletewhere are you headed, wakerider? I assume you're on a direct flight out of Florida or, at worst, from ATL to overseas?
ReplyDeleteWere are you headed? I could use a Caribbean trip about now.
ReplyDeleteChristmas in the Caribbean!
I'm going out to dig out the car. Not that I'm going anywhere, but it'll be easier than letting it ice up and the sun will finish the job.
ReplyDeleteA 5 star under the tree would be nice. A nice selection of QBs is good as well.
NoVa - Just finished doing our cars. I feel like I have moved 80 tons of snow.
ReplyDeleteTHT
ReplyDeleteOnly one thing to do, sen ther back to italy for another semester but this time,
a much larger exp. account and less school to ge tin the way of travels..
Only then will 2.0 get over the trama
sorry for the typo's i need a new keyboard as the keys are sticking..
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous, plus I could use the exercise.
ReplyDeleteAfter 2 hours 45 minutes on hold, US Air tells me there's no way they can get 2.0 out of Munich before Christmas Day. Now we're working on getting her back to FLR, so I'm on hold with Lufthansa. I bought the ticket from US Air, and all flights have a US Air flight number (obviously some are codeshares), so why can't US Air book her return to FLR? I have no idea.
All the airlines have cut supply (parked their planes) to improve the supply/demand curve. You'd think they could get a few of those planes out of the parking lot and use them to get rid of the backlog.
DL, I'll tell 2.0 that you have offered to finance that endeavor.
ReplyDeleteno problem... I shall teach her an important lesson in life..
ReplyDeletetell her the check is in the mail....
(grin)
Car is done well enough for the sun to finish the job and I'm sipping on a mug of mint hot chocolate. Hot shower to follow.
ReplyDeleteMain roads I can see look ok for light traffic but no where near being able to handle a rush hour. Side roads are a mess. I'm still hopeful of a holiday tomorrow.
THT, it sucks that you can't get her back before Christmas. Is there someone she can spend the time with in Florence?
ReplyDeleteNoVa - I think a classmate from Hong Kong is staying in FLR for the holidays as her family is arriving there this week. She & THT went to Barcelona 2 weekends ago.
ReplyDeleteoops, that was THT2.0 that went to Barcelona. I wouldn't be alive today if I had travelled to Barcelona with some chick from Hong Kong. Compared to MrsTHT, Elin Woods is the epitomy of forgive and forget.
ReplyDeleteI am going to Korea for Christmas. Random I know.
ReplyDeleteAnd Yes I'm flying out of ATL. Which you think would be uneventful. But unfortunately My flight from here to ATL is with Delta. Delta will find a way to make it eventful I'm sure.
WAKE,,
ReplyDeleteYou must come up north to see me!! Such short notice... Just go the main gate and tell them you have a meeting with Dear Leader. Be persistent... They will give you your own room until I get there.

ReplyDeleteWill do DL, or you could just meet me at the DMZ. Whatever works best for you.
ReplyDeleteThis thread is too young to die. It hasn't even hit 200 yet.
ReplyDeleteNoVa - I'm just sitting here waiting to here from 2.0, not knowing if I even will here from 2.0. Losing her cell phone before she got out of Florence was not a very good plan.
ReplyDeleteI could start talking about the BC coaching situation, and its effect on the airline industry.
* hear hear!
ReplyDeleteI just read something strange. It is from a source I don't usually read. It says that Eddins has been practicing some at h-back, which I found very weird. Jay, have you heard of such a thing. I am assuming it is a mistake and they are confusing it with him taking Isom's place.
ReplyDeleteupdate - 2.0 is on line. (and still IN line)
ReplyDeleteTHT 2.0 turn back stay in Italy.....
ReplyDeletefood sux over here..
THT, glad to hear 2.0 is okay. Once she gets back, you may want to crazy glue a cell phone to her hand. That had to be very troubling.
ReplyDeleteApparently a hamstring injury is no reason to sit Vince Young. He has 16.3 points by the half. I could really use those points.
ReplyDeleteGreat weekend in Fakerville!
ReplyDeleteHope you all have had an enjoyable one as well.
I had read that too Steve. That would be crazy seeing Eddins catching balls out of the backfield. How much does he weigh?
ReplyDeleteWhat??? Why in the world can the airlines not have 2.0 home in time for Christmas?? That's 5 days away for heaven's sake!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry that 2.0 won't be able to spend Christmas with you, Tar Heel. In my 41 years, this will be the first time I won't be able to spend it with my parents either. I have to work on Christmas day - the first time ever.
I would assume Eddins would be blocking similar to how the evil empire uses Cody occasionally. I just wouldn't think Malzahn would want to limit his options there. Who knows, though. If Ziemba can be a wide out, anything can happen. Maybe it is for a short yardage package.
ReplyDeleteI REALLY should have started Young.
ReplyDeleteI will be working on Christmas also, Luv, but for the umpteenth time ever. And the day after.
ReplyDelete2.0's brief time online says she's near front of US Air line. We talked about going back to FLR. Now I'm afraid she will. Since we talked, fares from FLR have skyrocketed and I'm not about to pay that much. She can sit in Munich all week on US Air/Lufthansa's dime. Problem is, she doesn't know this and may book her flight back to FLR before she gets back on line.
SteveFC - your suggestion re glue has been taken under advisement and subsequently approved without a dissenting vote.
btw, Nova and AU1N04, y'all have it easy.
ReplyDeleteValdez, Alaska received 68" of snow in 24 hours recently. That's FIVE FEET EIGHT INCHES. That would have put the top of MrsTHT's head 8 inches under the snow.
YEs, it was snowing at a rate of OVER 4 INCHES/HR during the heaviest part.
Thats why I only date the tall girls THT. I'm afraid if we get stuck in a snow storm in Valdez Alaska she won't be able to see out the top of the snow. It's a strictly survival oriented decision.
ReplyDeleteThat is one reason why I will never live in Alaska, although I may visit there someday.
ReplyDeleteHey NoVa Aubie said to stop by 54 sometime she would love to hear from you
ReplyDeleteWill do Digger.
ReplyDeleteThanks, it's hard to catch people on there but it's still a good site
ReplyDeleteThat is an outrages amount. 4" an hour? We had 2-3" for a period of time.
ReplyDeleteThey don't have cars to dig out, they ride Reindeer.
Alaska is only state I haven't visited, and it's been that way for about 15 years. I just can't force myself to spend as much as it would cost to get there. I don't like boats, which is necessary to see the glaciers, and Mount McKinley is probably hidden in clouds most of the time. Maybe one day I'll just fly up there, get off the plane for lunch, and fly back.
ReplyDeletethey = Alaskans
ReplyDeleteProblems accessing the group Digger. It's been a while and my link may be bad.
ReplyDeleteI thought they used dog Sleds. They can dig there on way out (the dogs that is) and you don't have to worry about dead batteries
ReplyDeleteNoVa try this

Alaska has always been a fascinating place to me. I have always wanted to go, but haven't had the chance. I even looked for houses for sale up there recently. I was trying to find a cheap place to retire. Believe it or not, it isn't cheap. I did see one house for $60,000 which came with a bucket under the kitchen sink pipe to collect the falling water. I don't know how much it would cost if we left off the bucket. I assumed housing prices near Fairbanks wouldn't be that bad, but they are.
ReplyDeleteWHAT TIME IS IT?!?!?!
