Nuggets from The Football Coach

Hey everyone. Gene Chizik stopped by for a minutes to speak with reporters about various issues related to football.

Here's a basic rundown.
  • DE Cameron Henderson is off the team. He is not in school. That's a wrap. To make a nebulous story clear, he became cross-ways of the coaching staff last summer and his road to redemption, as it were, was mighty narrow.

  • LB Spencer Pybus, LB Adam Herring and OT Vance Smith will not return to the field. Ever. They have been dealing with chronic medical issues. ``Those are three great, great kids who love football," Chizik said. ``You have to look at what your quality of life is going to be 30 years from now. Medically, it was their decision to stop playing."

  • Chizik said he has not been contacted by Louisiana Tech or any other school regarding offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn. A few LTU websites reported that Malzahn was interviewing there today, but he's attending the Auburn-Kentucky basketball game.

  • Chizik on his staff: ``I've talked to all of our assistant coaches. My goal is being able to keep all of our coaching staff in tact. There has been no official contact that I know about. I fully anticipate having our staff fully back together."

  • Chizik said S Aairon Savage has applied for a sixth season of eligibility. He has missed the past two years because of leg injuries. Former DL Tez Doolittle made the same appeal for the same problems two years ago and was granted the sixth season. He found out in March.

  1. I think I'll apply for a medical redshirt

    ReplyDelete
  2. Shame about Pybus. I hope the head injury doesn't follow him for the rest of his life.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Cincy, don't you dare take off those glasses!!

    ReplyDelete
  4. It's a 1 pt game!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Well, that didn't last long...

    ReplyDelete
  6. Oh my! Tie game with just under 8 minutes left!

    ReplyDelete
  7. I am encouraged by Savage hopefully coming back. Jay, correct me if I am wrong but I believe Savage was about it a dead heat with Thorpe for one corner spot. It would be good to see him back.

    ReplyDelete
  8. That was a tough lost.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Possibly the greatest movie of all time is on E! right now.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Well, I still have on my orange colored glasses - I always think Auburn will win :)

    ReplyDelete
  11. Who knows, maybe it will help them with the rest of the season. Don't we always say that after a close loss?

    ReplyDelete
  12. I am kind of done with the might be getting better thing with Lebo teams.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Those 4 moving on, was pretty much expected...

    ReplyDelete
  14. Best news here is that all the coaches will be back.
I hate it for the players but they are making a wish decision.

    ReplyDelete
  15. At least they made a game of it. Noone gave them a chance - except Cincy, of course!

    ReplyDelete
  16. It is a shame for those football players, but like digger, I think they are making a good decision.

    ReplyDelete
  17. As I said over there Auburn played just good enough to lose. BUT they played a good game.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Look on the bright side: the hoops team didn't embarrass the football team in front the guests.

    ReplyDelete
  19. What a game for AU. Never saw that coming. Cool sitting about 7 seats over from Ashley.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Jey good point they sure didn't.

    ReplyDelete
  21. You get us some good pics WTC?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Second half starting
    Cardinals at Saints.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Do the Saints break 50 today?

    I say yes.

    ReplyDelete
  24. disappointed, WTC... disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Time to drive back to the gump.

    ReplyDelete
  26. wtc, when I found out AJ was sitting on the same row as you, I thought for sure you wouldn't watch the game; however, Auburn did make a game out of it. I'm sure you enjoyed today!

    ReplyDelete
  27. wtc, what recruits did you see?

    ReplyDelete
  28. WTC...

Thought Mom woulda taught you better than that.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Jet, you know wtc was just trying to play it cool. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  30. I thought I saw him hitting on her during one of the timeouts... I guess not.

    ReplyDelete
  31. LOL, D. Miller! Not that I care who wins, but Warner has NO protection.

    ReplyDelete
  32. We lost? Inconceivable!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. chatroll and Iphone don't work well together.

Glad Auburn kept it close, still doesn't change my opinion of the head man.

Sorry to see all those guys unable to play ever again due to their medical issues. Good news is that school is still a free ride and hopefully they will take full advantage of that.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ehyou, at least they played like a real team, unlike whatever that was the other night.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I sure hope this is not Warner's last game. This would be a terrible way to go out.

    ReplyDelete
  36. They need to put in Leinart here...Warner just cant do it

    ReplyDelete
  37. I agree with you Jhag. It's obvious that Warner is not Warner. Need to pull him. Leinart...hate him with a passion.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Here are some of Shon Coleman's FB status updates. The FB and Tweeter lingo is hard to understand sometimes. This is one recruit I hope we don't lose.

On my way 2 da Plains. I'll gt bak up wit erbody Sunday.

  39. Yepp...this game is officially boring.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I agree, Eddie. I'm a much bigger fan of Warner than I am Favre.

    And that's your ballgame...

    ReplyDelete
  41. Anyone going to the Auburn-UAT basketball game? We bought tix a few weeks ago.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Gag.....my husband just came in with 2 bags full of championship t-shirts and sweatshirts for him and the grandbabies. Their parents are not going to be happy.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Kathy....was he shoping at Wal-Mart :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Gag is right, Kathy! If I was their parents, I wouldn't let that crap in the house!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Luv, he won't send them home with them. He knows what they will do to them.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Eddie, he actually won't shop at Walmart.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Kathy- Wow, one of the few Bama fans I suppose. Nothing wrong with walmart unless you are going wardrobe shopping ;).

    ReplyDelete
  48. Eddie, he hates the long checkout lines.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Anonymous6:03 PM

Sounds like Auburn played a heckuva game against what may end up being the National Champ.

    ReplyDelete
  50. If we could put together the 1st half of Tenn game & 2nd of today, we'd have 1 decent game.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Nicely played, Eddie.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I don't know about you guys but Arkansas guard Rotnei Clarke sounds like he ought to be a UAT fan from Hokes Bluff.

    ReplyDelete
  53. #1 Texas is struggling at home to Texas A&M right now. Down eight early in the second. Game's on ESPNU.

Come Monday, this (Kentucky) could've been the #1 team in the nation Auburn lost by five to today.

Same story from back in November.

    ReplyDelete
  54. With this lead, why does NO have Brees still in the game?

    ReplyDelete
  55. I hope tonights AFC game is much better than this. This game stinks. I'm watching an old James Bond movie which makes me think...the new bond is so much better. Daniel Craig is by far my favorite Bond of all time.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Blasphemy Eddie, some of those old Bonds are great. I was a big fan of Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace was ok.

    ReplyDelete
  57. ehyou,
I told my in-laws the same thing - combine those 2 games and we could be a decent team

    ReplyDelete
  58. Kathy, so grandpa makes them wear that crap while they are visiting and tells them that it is their little secret? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  59. I agree that Casino Royal is better than Quantum of Solace, but I still say Daniel Craig is the best bond. I love that for a bond movie, those are somewhat believable to a certain extent. I know many love Sean Connery (sp), but I'm not a fan.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Have any of you Hotties living in AL seen the S.I. commerical with the commemorative football? It must have been designed by a bammer because it lists all the games and the scores and then it has a big 13-0. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  61. By the way...the Rollison Express is back on the tracks...not sure if it has an engine at this point. Here's to hoping.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I do like that about the new bonds as well Eddie, and thats what I like about the classics, the ones in the middle aren't at all believable.

Daniel Craig is certainly the best in quite a while.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I thought Quantum of Solace was underrated. Not as good as Casino Royale, but still good.

If anything, it was just too short.

    ReplyDelete
  64. DeWayne Reed ... 7 of 25 from the field.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Luv, their parents know that Pops lets them wear that stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Jay, I trust you at least got to say high to AJ, or possibly an awkward wave? Did she have body guards bigger than any player on our basketball team?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Jet...after starting 0-10. Just had to find his rhythm (I say with tongue firmly in cheek).

    ReplyDelete
  68. Kathy, just so long as they don't come home wearing it... They don't say RTR, do they?

    ReplyDelete
  69. I need some cruitin' texts to start hitting my phone!

In other news, little man is doing better tonight. Thanks for prayers and such to those who knew. He's been at the hospital for asthma and pneumonia. Headed back there in a minute.

First thing he said to me yesterday when I got there? "Daddy, I want you to bring me doughnuts tomorrow morning ... chocolate."

    That was for you ScottChocolate

    ReplyDelete
  70. Also, good game to the Leapin' Lebos. They had me going for a second. Showed a lot of heart. WDE!

    ReplyDelete
  71. As I always say ... shoot your way out of a slump.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Phred ... prayers for the Little Zen Master.

    ReplyDelete
  73. PP...thoughts and prayers for the little man.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Phred, glad to hear little man is improving. Give him all the chocolate he wants!

    ReplyDelete
  75. I love Bond movies... and it is sad that I have yet to see Casino Royale or QoS.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Glad to hear he's doing better, Phred....

    ReplyDelete
  77. If you like Bond movies you HAVE to see Casino Royale, best one in years.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Casino Royale is a must-see.

But Connery is the best ever. Daniel Craig is a solid No. 2. The rest are way behind.

    ReplyDelete
  79. There have been some memorable moments in television, but few surpass the episode of Seinfeld where George thinks he may have turned gay because a guy gave him a massage. Now, that's entertainment.

    ReplyDelete
  80. E-Bro- I agree with you about SoQ. It needed some more time. I still really like it.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Uh-Oh...we screwed up a Beasley. Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Phred- Prayers sent for your little man. Hope he gets better soon.

    ReplyDelete
  83. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Kathy, the recruits were on the opposite side of the floor and I did not see who they were. I did see Malzahn and spouse and Thigpen and Chizik. I guess the UAT fans will still say he was interviewing with LaTech today.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Prayers to your kid, Phred. Glad to hear he is doing better.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Steve, that episode is on now on TBS.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I am very encouraged by the fact that the mullet nation is hoping Malzahn will leave.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Phred more prayers for your little man, hope his recovery continues.
The game was well worth watching and I said I wasn't going to but I did.

    ReplyDelete
  89. When I left JHS was lit up and LOUD music wasa coming out of it. wish I could have gotten in to see the recruits over there.

    ReplyDelete
  90. phred,
Glad to hear your little guy is doing better. I hate it when kids are sick. I agree - give him all the chocolate he wants! Prayers for him to continue to recover quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  91. WTC- You should have gotten your Mom to let you in.

    ReplyDelete
  92. OT-One of the best commercials on TV now is the Gieco commercial where the announcer asks 'Are Gieco's rates low, does Charlie Daniles play a mean fiddle?' And then they show him paying the fiddle in a fine dining establishment.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Where are the Stealers, the Cowboys, the 49ers, even the Broncos. Has the entire world gone mad?

    ReplyDelete
  94. Mom was busy talking to Cam Newton.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Steve...are you implying the Steelers have stole something?

    ReplyDelete
  96. Did Mom say how Cam was enjoying Auburn?

    ReplyDelete
  97. Quite possibly, Eddie. I just haven't followed the pros in years, but am pretty starved for football now.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Likes it so far. He is a big dude. I am 6'4" @225 and he looks much bigger than me. He is a big dude.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Could Mom just cut out the middle man and start posting on her own?

She might go from posting to Ring of Fire pronto.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Actually, when RoF voting comes out, she gets an honorary vote from me. He info is classic. Of course, i'm starting to wonder what her method is. She must show up every week to the complex full of baked goods :).

    ReplyDelete
  101. Can't wait to see Cam on the field. Hope he lives up to the billing.

    ReplyDelete
  102. So footballscoop.com is saying Malzahn is the front runner in the search.

According to our sources, Malzahn is the front runner in replacing departed Head Coach Derek Dooley. We
are hearing that North Alabama Head Coach, Terry Bowden, will interview.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Peyton Manning just looks like one big goof ball when running.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Terry Bowden would be a great fit at La Tech.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I don't think Terry Bowden will fit anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Terry Bowden and "fit" should not be used in the same sentence.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Jet- Not true, I heard he has a spot locked up for Biggest Loser, but apparently he didn't realize it was a weight loss competition.

    ReplyDelete
  108. This may be one time footballscoop misses one.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Aggies up one in Austin with 30 seconds to go.

    Shooting free throws.

    ReplyDelete
  110. erbody ready to watch JP shine tonight?

    I predict a pick 6 for him.

    ReplyDelete
  111. D.Miller- I hope you are right. Would love to see JP shine.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Too big to fit anywhere but a school bus with all the seats removed

    ReplyDelete
  113. Heading to overtime in Austin.

    Crazy end to regulation.

Texas tied it up at 60 with 20 seconds to go. A&M then turned it over and Texas drove down and missed two or three point blank chances.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Interesting tidbit also from footballcoachscoop.com ... Dennis Dunn head coach at NAIA Louisiana College, formerly head coach at Evangel Christian in Louisiana, is campaigning hard. Massively successful at Evangel (9 titles in 14 years). His pitch ... why hire someone who will leave in 3 years?

    ReplyDelete
  115. Jet- Why not...that's a good pitch, of course, how many former La Tech HC's have left for bigger and better?

    ReplyDelete
  116. That facemask penalty shows why they need to bring back the 5 yard facemask penalty.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Love the way the Ravens hit the receivers. That is the way a good defense should be. If they touch the ball, make them wish they hadn't.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Good drive not so good finish.
    field goal!

    ReplyDelete
  119. How do you know if you have went to far? If you shave your head and then paint it to look like a football helmet, that could be a clue.

    ReplyDelete
  120. What's up peeps? So, I see that our resident expert recruiting analyst's son sat near a famous hot chick today and didn't get any pictures. What a sissy. He probably drives a Murano, a white one to boot.

    ReplyDelete
  121. If Flacco throws well, then the Colts will have a difficult time.

    ReplyDelete
  122. If the Ravens score more points in this game than the Colts then they'll win it.

I should be a color commentator.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Norm, you'd be awesomer than awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Long time lurker, first time poster. If you have not seen, Rivals has Carlos Rogers on the all decade team.
    http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1039966

    ReplyDelete
  125. Welcome Styles.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Jet - I have it on good authority that your statement is correct.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Styles bringing the substance on his first post.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Welcome Styles. I loved watching Carlos. Opposing teams wouldn't throw to his side of the field.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Jealousy is eating you up isn't it Norm?

    ReplyDelete
  130. That was a collision.

    ReplyDelete
  131. What is this? Daniel Craig? Hmmm...I would do; just saying'...

THT is in bed asleep, hopefully...

    ReplyDelete
  132. Welcome Styles good read on that link.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Hello 2.0 good to see your post. Hope all is well.

    ReplyDelete
  134. wtc - I'm not consumed by jealousy. It does however occupy a fair amount of my waking moments. But eating me up may be a bit of a stretch. For example, though I'm still plotting Jet's ultimate downfall, it has nothing to do with jealousy.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Thanks for the warm welcome. I will not be a frequent poster, but I'll be around.

    ReplyDelete
  136. The post will still be there when he wakes up 2.0

    ReplyDelete
  137. Come back and post when you feel like chipping in.

    ReplyDelete
  138. I can state for a fact that Norm is not jealous of me.

We just don't like each other.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Evening Hotties!

    Welcome Styles and War Eagle!

    ReplyDelete
  140. Jet/Norm and whatever your female name was when you guys posted last month-It is easy to see why you hate each other. Everyone here agrees with both of you.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Shut up, Murano-drivin' Mama's boy.

    ReplyDelete
  142. It is a chick magnet.FYI.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Yeah, what Jet says. You mind your own business. Anyway, you know good and well what that female name was since it was you who concocted and perpetrated the charade.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Don't hit the guy, you might hurt him.

    ReplyDelete
  145. No one's gonna hit WTC ... his Mama will show up and kick our butts. Plus, she'll cut off the recruiting info.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Digger, my favorite hotttie!

    pssst, don't tell IV!

I'm living la dolce vita. How's everything in the good ole' US of A?

    ReplyDelete
  147. This Manning guy, uh, is a pretty good player.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Don't make me come back there.

    ReplyDelete
  149. If this game ended right now, the Colts advance.

I'm still working on my mad color commentating skillz.

    ReplyDelete
  150. I was referring to the Personal Foul on Ed Reed (B.S.), I don't really care if you hit WTC or not.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Norm, your close, but you need to take a few clues from Jet and speak of Peyton's greatness endlessly.

    ReplyDelete
  152. It's not like Ray Lewis shot the guy or anything.

    ReplyDelete
  153. I know we're watching the football game, but I'm still thinking abouit John Wall's move where he split two guys twice and made the layup.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Jet - had he been playing in ATL, you couldn't necessarily make that statement.

    ReplyDelete
  155. I know which play your talking about Jet, and it makes me hurt a little.

    ReplyDelete
  156. The John Wall play, not the play where Ray Lewis shot the guy.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Well, Wake, if Ray Lewis shot you, it'd probably hurt, too.

    ReplyDelete
  158. John Wall is pretty good. Cousin's is awful strong in the upper body. AU can'tset a screen against anyone. Why run the weave 25 feet from the basket? AU shot out of their mind in the 2nd half. UK played flat. When it came down to the final 2 minutes, I had more confidence that UK was goingto step up and het the 2 pointers than Au even getting a clean 3 pointer off.

    ReplyDelete
  159. How many think the poewers at AU lok at this game and think it gives Lebo another year?

    ReplyDelete
  160. WTC ... if any has that idea, they'll have 13 more opportunities to change their mind.

    ReplyDelete
  161. If they build on it and have a decent year then it gets Lebo another year.

If this team continues down the path they were headed prior to this game then he's still gone.

    My uninformed opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  162. 15 yard penalty on wtc for using the word "hawt". THat is a reserved word of she who must not be named.

    ReplyDelete
  163. I am under the impression that only Jesus could save Lebo.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Anonymous8:52 PM

    BTW,

What the heck was Shannon Sharpe wearing at halftime?

    ReplyDelete
  165. I just heard the color guy say that the Ravens offense isn't built to come from behind because they run a lot. Someone please write that down for me.

    ReplyDelete
  166. if lebo had won that game, he would have saved himself. i guess they could still go undefeated in league play from here...

    ReplyDelete
  167. Texas surviving TAMU warrants a front page blurb on SI.com, but Kentucky getting by us doesn't? LAME

    ReplyDelete
  168. Jet - just saw where an old classmate recently posted a picture from the 10th. That's quite likely the last time we'll ever see some of those folks. M.L. in the back and that's definitely the last time I saw him.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Norm ... saw those photos ... hard to believe that time flies so quickly.

Maybe we should set aside our differences since we are getting order.

    Nah.

    ReplyDelete
  170. The pic ya'll are talking about popped up on my news feed, and there is some serious hair in that picture.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Wake-The TX scare was on their home court. That is why they got the press. UK played poorly on the road, again. Not big news. drtucker@knology.net

    ReplyDelete
  172. Wake - that's from '92. Apparently some folks (1 girl in particular) thought big hair was cool. That's also the last time I'll grow a beard.

    ReplyDelete
  173. That was a fun play!

    ReplyDelete
  174. OK, ... now I saw the photo in question ... thought you were speaking of another.

Wow. Just wow. ML looks like his demon possesed, but of course the night ended shortly after for him, and that was his last public appearance.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Norm ...

Even though you don't have that dashing beard anymore, you have to stick around for the flip.

    ReplyDelete
  176. The Norm Zone.

    ReplyDelete
  177. I'm not allowed to go more than 2 days without shaving. More than that and I get complaints from the home CEO. Also, more than that and the grey makes an appearance.

    ReplyDelete
  178. I'm loving the haircut for the Colts' offensive coordinator.

    ReplyDelete
  179. Kiffin sure screwed up some of these players:

Offensive lineman JaWuan James has told Tennessee that he will return to campus on Sunday, a source close to James told the News Sentinel.

The highly rated offensive lineman from North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Ga., enrolled at UT this week but went home after coach Lane Kiffin left UT for Southern California.

As per NCAA rules as explained by UT athletic director Mike Hamilton this week, James would be subject to NCAA transfer rules if he enrolled elsewhere, meaning he would have to sit out one season of competition.

James has until Tuesday, the last day to drop and add classes, to begin attending classes for the spring semester.

    ReplyDelete
  180. I rarely shave two days in a row so we are polar opposites there. Prior to May of last year I hadn't been clean shaven in 3 years.

Those days are quickly drawing to a close however.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Jet - I'm stealing pictures from your FB.

    ReplyDelete
  182. So the Bills offered the HC job to Jim Harbaugh and he declined.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Ambles’ mother told the News Sentinel that her son will not be visiting Knoxville or anywhere else this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Wasn't that nice of coach O to call those players and explain to them their options... even if the options he was giving them weren't really options.

    ReplyDelete
  185. No Shave Saturday at the Hangar. Every other day I am expected ... commanded ... to shave.

    ReplyDelete
