ON THE SCENE: Recruiting

Hey everyone. We're here in Auburn talking with the recruits on their way out of town. I'll just update as the day progresses.

OVERVIEW:
  • Auburn was hoping the two uncommitted defensive tackles -- Jeffrey Whitaker and Byran Jones -- would commit this weekend. They didn't. Still, Auburn clearly has piqued their interest.

  • OL Shon Coleman, whose commitment reportedly was wavering, said today that he will sign with Auburn. He also referred to the Tigers as his "future team."

  • WR Trovon Reed was the only prospect to avoid post-visit interviews. Not sure why he would choose to do that, though I'm not insinuating he's a bad kid for doing so. Just noting a curious decision.

  • It's clear that Auburn's commitments were here this weekend in an effort to get the uncommitted guys on board. We'll soon see if their efforts were effective.

THE PROSPECTS:

UPDATE @ 1:10 p.m. JUSTIN DELANIE, defensive end from Linden, had a good time this weekend. He is an Auburn commitment. Delanie laughed when asked if he'd consider signing anywhere else. He played at 235 this past season, but he has dropped 10 pounds to play basketball. Delanie said he's planning to play at 250 or 260, so he obviously has some trips to Golden Corral ahead.

UPDATE @ 1:01 p.m. JEREMY RICHARDSON, wideout from Springville, had a good time this weekend. His player host was Onterio McCalebb. Richardson is an Auburn commitment. He didn't have much to say. He's a quiet guy. He did mention that he's hoping the two defensive tackles commit.

UPDATE @ 1 p.m. JEFFREY WHITAKER, defensive tackle from Georgia, had a good time this weekend. His player host was Nosa Eguae. He rated this trip a "10," but it's clear Auburn still has work ahead. He's primarily considering Auburn, Georgia and Miami. Whitaker said he has an idea of where he'll sign, but he's "just making sure" that his preliminary decision is the right one. Impressive kid, very mature, composed and interesting.

UPDATE @ 12:35 p.m. JAKE HOLLAND, linebacker from Birmingham, had a good time this weekend. He is an Auburn commitment. His player host was Jessel Curry. Holland said he spent the weekend recruiting on Auburn's behalf. He also likes the new student housing at The Village.

UPDATE @ 11:14 a.m. SHON COLEMAN, offensive tackle from Olive Branch, Miss., had a good time this weekend. He's been listed as a soft commitment by the recruiting services, so Auburn used this weekend to re-affirm Coleman's feelings. The scheme apparently worked; Coleman said ``I'm going to sign with Auburn." He referred to Auburn as "my future team," but said he still may take more visits. Interested schools include Ole Miss, Tennessee, Southern Cal and Miami. Coleman is a big man, a strong-looking man. He looks like a football player.

UPDATE @ 10:48 a.m. BYRAN JONES, defensive tackle from Arkansas, had a good time this weekend. His player host was Eltoro Freeman. Jones has it narrowed down to Auburn and Arkansas. He will make an official visit in Fayetteville next weekend. Jones said he won't announce his decision until signing day. He said he's good friends with both Michael Dyer and Dakota Mosley, a pair of fellow Arkansas prospects who have committed to Auburn. Jones said he's fine with playing out of state. Not sure what to think about his upcoming decision.

UPDATE @ 10:33 a.m. D.J. HOWARD, athlete from Lincoln (near Anniston), had a good time this weekend. He is an Auburn commitment. Howard considered a trip to Clemson, but apparently that's off. He considers himself a running back and his dalliance with Clemson was rooted in the fact that Clemson wants him as a tailback. Auburn coaches told Howard this week that he will play tailback at Auburn, so he has re-affirmed his commitment.

UPDATE @ 10:22 a.m. JAWARA WHITE, linebacker from Troy, had a good time this weekend. He said he dedicated his time toward recruiting the two uncommitted defensive tackles -- Jeffrey Whitaker and Byran Jones. White said he was 100% sure Jones had a good time. Why? ``Because he was with me." White said he wouldn't discuss how successful his recruiting pitches were. ``That's a surprise."

UPDATE @ 10:10 a.m. TRENT FISHER, athlete from suburban Nashville, had a good time this weekend. He was hosted by Phillip Lutzenkirchen. Fisher said he is a safety by trade and expects to play that in college. He has some I-AA offers, but would play at Auburn as a walk-on. His sister currently attends Auburn. Fisher's father, Tennessee Titans coach Jeff Fisher, made the trip and was in the complex today.

UPDATE @ 10:05 a.m. JONATHAN MINCY, defensive back from suburban Atlanta, had a good time this weekend. He is an Auburn commitment. He referred to Auburn as "we" when asked about the 2009 season. I'd say he's locked in. Mincy said he will not take any additional visits.

UPDATE @ 9:50 a.m. KENNETH CARTER, defensive tackle from Greenville, said he enjoyed the trip. He is an Auburn commitment. He is the team's only DT commitment at this point. Carter said he's ready to get on campus and start playing. He ended his comments with a "War Eagle."

UPDATE @ 9:22 a.m. RYAN WHITE, defensive back from Tallahassee, Fla., was the first guy out. He is an Auburn committment. He said he did a lot of partying during his trip. He spent time at Zac Etheridge's pad last night, had a good time. Said he probably won't make visits to any additional schools. Seems fully committed to me.

  1. He was already committed, correct?

    ReplyDelete
  2. Good Job Kathy - I had to log in first - Dang It....

    ReplyDelete
  3. Did Chizik have any updates on Zac's recovery? I'm sure he is a great recruiter for Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Yes he was already committed

    ReplyDelete
  5. Thanks Jay, I know this probably isn't the most exciting part of your job but its appreciated by your readers, gives us some good info.

    ReplyDelete
  6. wow, that's early reporting. Someone get JGT a sausage biscuit and a cup of coffee.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I know this is a football thread, but if there are any "hotties" that are still in Auburn I would like to know if Lebo or anyone associated with the basketball program does anything to promote on camput. Crowds can really help the team, but they don't show up. Other coaches like Pearl do things to get the students involved.

    ReplyDelete
  8. THT, I want to see that commercial also. I really like Tebo and anyone that doesn't is just a hater. He seems to have it all.

    ReplyDelete
  9. 3 cheers for Ryan White! party time!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I was there during Lebo's tenure, and I recall very little that he ever did on campus. He went around to the Fraternity's to try to get support when he first arrived, but I don't recall anything else.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Thanks Wake, that's what I tought. We need a guy with some fire and passion that can get the students involved. Winning can do that for you too, but I think at a program in the shape of Auburn you need to get fans involved 1st. Once the fans are involved then you can recruit better and start winning more.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Did I read JGT's Advertiser column right in that we Turned Down a 5-star defensive back?

    ReplyDelete
  13. One reason we declined is because of grades. Most think he is a sign and place guy. We just don't have the luxury this year to take guys that won't make it in.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Anonymous9:45 AM

LT - Yes we did...I think it has a lot to do with scholastic issues.

I am devistated that my Baltimore Ravens did not show up and play yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  15. AU1, that game was defense and Peyton. The Colts had no running game at all. Ravens did a good job there. They need to beef up on their offense.

    ReplyDelete
  16. AAhhhh - Grades.

We don't have the luxury of non-qualifiers this time around I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Anonymous9:50 AM

We need a WR, and we did do a little self destruction.

Helmet hit in the endzone, and actually saw the same thing done by Indy but no call.

Illegal use of hands after a huge return.

Fumbles at key times. Really key times.

We will be back next yr!!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Anonymous9:52 AM

I just can't believe that football is over, and that I am already taking my son to baseball clinics.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Carter report up ... as it were.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Kenneth Carter will be huge at Auburn!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Check out that stud in that ear.... Wife needs one of those (hope she ain't reading this).

    ReplyDelete
  22. The currently committed kids generally don't have much to say.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Is Carter generally as quiet as he seems?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Is next weekend another big recruiting weekend? If so, who is scheduled?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Carter is quiet, yes.

    Just talked to Mincy...

    ReplyDelete
  26. Do you think Fisher comes to Auburn?

    ReplyDelete
  27. HABOTN recruiting updates rule the world. nice work this am JG.

    ReplyDelete
  28. JGT, did you hear Mincy say he thought Whitaker would be a Tiger?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Jawara White said he spent the entire weekend recruiting the two uncommitted DTs -- Whitaker and Jones -- and said that yielded a "surprise."

Whitaker is in the complex right now.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm 99% sure Fisher will come to Auburn, yes.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Good for Jawara!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Great stuff JGT. love the hot news as it is happening.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Just saw Trovon Reed.

    ReplyDelete
  34. He's in the complex now.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Are you catching them as they come out of the complex?

    ReplyDelete
  36. JGT, your updates are fantastic!!! Great work.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I hope Trovon plays better than Dewayne.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Just saw DJ Howard.

He said coaches told him he would play running back here. Guaranteed it. So he's now back on the Auburn train. Says he won't make any additional visits.

    ReplyDelete
  39. DJ- Interesting to see how the RB position goes for him. I still hope we get Lattimore.

    ReplyDelete
  40. hhmmmm....i didn't realize Howard was a RB recruit.

    ReplyDelete
  41. D.J. shops at the same jeweler as Carter apparently.

    ReplyDelete
  42. FYI: Jawara said Michael Dyer was here this weekend on an unofficial visit.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Great keep it coming

    ReplyDelete
  44. Got to like our Old recruits helping with the New ones.....

    ReplyDelete
  45. Anonymous10:44 AM

Side note - Gaines Adams DE for Chicago dead at age 26.

    Unbelievable.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Scottie- Most list him as Athlete. It was said that Auburn Coaches wanted him on Defense, but apparently he will get his shot at RB first and foremost as he wants.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Wow Au1, that really is sad. I wonder what the deal was.

1st round draft pick to gone in 4 years.

    ReplyDelete
  48. The quick search I did on Adams says heart attack.

    Very Sad.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Anonymous10:50 AM

    Wasn't Henry 26 too?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Byran Jones update now posted.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sounds like Mosley jumped the gun on his FB status! Jones should discuss his decision with his family.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Eddie, when i see 'athlete' i think safety or DB. that's what i had in my head. well, if the kid can cut it then kudos to him. we'll see.

    ReplyDelete
  53. kathy, what's the facebook situation?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Just spoke with Shon Coleman.

He said he's 100% on Auburn. He may take a few visits but said he's "100 percent sure" he'll sign with Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  55. GREAT news about Coleman.

Scottie, Dakota Mosely updated his FB status yesterday to state Jones=Auburn commit

    ReplyDelete
  56. Sounds like most everyone has had a great time visiting Auburn. Hanging onto Coleman is huge.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Unlike recent years passed it sure is good to see we are going for something other than QB's and WR's. They are needed but not so many.
    GO CHIZ and CO.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Where's Whitaker?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Easy, Kathy.

Whitaker is still upstairs talking with coaches.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Whitaker is giving his pledge to play at Auburn... :)

    ReplyDelete
  61. That's what I'm hoping Eddie!

Sorry JGT, patience never was my strong point!

    ReplyDelete
  62. i like big, strong football players named Coleman. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Scottie- IMI Buddy, TMI!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Thanks Jay. Love this stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I need more.. faster....
    :0)

    ReplyDelete
  66. Digger, we actually have more receivers than we need in this class. If I recall correctly, we have 4 in this class which will bring us to 13 wide receivers. The problem is that the four we have are really too good to turn down. Hopefully some of them turn into DBs.

I do love how this staff filled needs this recruiting season. There isn't really an area of obvious need other than getting at least one more DT.

Last year they had to get who they could get. This year, it seems they are getting who they want.

    ReplyDelete
  67. DL - oh, nevermind, that one's just too easy.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Jay's article mentioning Auburn told Ahmad Dixon no thanks is good to see. It is hard to imagine turning down someone like that, but it is amazing to see we are at that point with this class.

    ReplyDelete
  69. This blog took a very queer turn very quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I thinking I'm beginning to understand why some people on here are friends with these prospects on facebook....kinda scary.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Mack says he's done
    By Phil Kornblut
OL Eric Mack of Calhoun County (6-4 310), a longtime USC commitment, made his official visit over the weekend to USC and firming up his pledge and, he says, ending his recruiting. Mack said he will not visit Florida as scheduled next weekend and Auburn also is off his list. "Everything was good," Mack said. "I just liked how everything was set up. I really liked going to Jillians. Me and DeMario (Jeffery) both suck at pool, so we played each other. Terrance Campbell was my host. I just felt comfortable with everything. Coach Spurrier is coming in for his home visit Thursday."

    ReplyDelete
  72. Kathy- That just killed the mood.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Thanks Kathy. I had hoped for Mack, but this class looks solid anyway. I wonder if Auburn will find another offensive lineman?

DJ Howard playing runningback is interesting because we do need more runningbacks. The thing is, I was hoping Lattimere would be the other runningback.

    ReplyDelete
  74. that doesn't bother me too much. He's already shown poor judgement before today. He needs to be closer to home.

    ReplyDelete
  75. If Mack is gone from the picture, I wonder how that impacts Lattimore, if at all? And, does that mean we offer Ambles, the rivals 5 Star WR that wants to go to Auburn now?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Eddie, I wonder about Ambles myself. We have more than enough wide receivers, but he may be too good to pass up.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I know THT is following...

    ReplyDelete
  78. And I do believe the reason Hawthorne left was that his chances of playing time were going down dramatically. With TZach and Adams the firm starters and with Emory and Benton coming on, I don't think he would be in the rotation, considering we have one of the best groups of receiver commits I can remember.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Did I catch him not looking?

    ReplyDelete
  80. no need for me to interrupt that

    ReplyDelete
  81. Don't forget Carr with a big TD catch in the Outback Bowl.

Then there's Stallworth when he comes back from his injury, though I'm not sure how much of a receiver he is. Would have been nice to have him the last three games of the year.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Time to embrace the Brett Favre in all of us. Go Vikings!!!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Bro goes crazy there.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Good point, E-Bro. And Gulley figures to get some snaps somewhere, too.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Yes....GO CRAZY EDDIE....GO CRAZY!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  86. as a Packer fan for the past 49 years, I will have a hard time pulling for the Vikings. I've never been a Cowboys fan (especially in the '66 and '67 NFL Championship Games), but at least they have Jay Ratliff.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I don't like both. I hope Favre throws like 5 pics. Would be a fitting way for the Vikes to end their season IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  88. JGT - are you and the other writers having a good time socializing this morning?

    ReplyDelete
  89. THT your all over the map with your fan loyalties.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Auburn

    *******
    Penguins
    Packers
    Spurs
Braves (but, like, who cares anymore)

    UNC
    Wake Forest
    Pitt

  91. Saw a good Deadspin article the other day that says football fans only actually spend eleven minutes watching live football action in a live telecast.

I guess that it would be the same for people watching it live in person as well.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Here's another tidbit. Not sure how reliable this one is:

    Source: Lattimore coming to USC
    By Phil Kornblut
According to a source who spoke with Byrnes RB Marcus Lattimore over the weekend, Lattimore plans to sign with USC. Lattimore made his official visit with the Gamecocks over the weekend. Lattimore is scheduled to visit Oregon this coming weekend, but the source said Lattimore told him he's not taking that visit. "I don't think he's going to take any more visits," the source said. "He said he's planning on coming (to USC) June 1st. He said he's not taking any more visits." Lattimore has also visited Auburn and Penn State. Penn State head coach Joe Paterno, who seldom makes in home visits with recruits, does plan to come in to visit Lattimore.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I'm still here.

We talked with Jake Holland a few minutes ago ... but there are several players milling around. Gotta wait for them to leave.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Military kid or just pick your teams not based on where you lived?

And is it legal to like two teams from the same conference in the same state?

    ReplyDelete
  95. Ouch, dagger through the heart.

    ReplyDelete
  96. The study is actually from the Wall Street Journal.

    Here's the article

    ReplyDelete
  97. Lache? You still there buddy?

    ReplyDelete
  98. Here's a link to those previous updates:

    ReplyDelete
  99. Maybe that's why they told Howard he could play RB!

    ReplyDelete
  100. I guess thats why we told Howard he can play RB.

USCe is the last place I go as a offensive player.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I wonder if jhag is watching this game. I also wonder about his thoughts on the QB's.

Not really. I'm positive I know the answer to each.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Jhag is certainly sheds a tear everytime Farve goes down like that.

    ReplyDelete
  103. I was thinking the same thing about Howard. I wonder if that changes our view on getting Ahmad Dixon?

    ReplyDelete
  104. How exactly do you get cut by one of the worst teams in the NFL, and end up on a Superbowl contender.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Wakerider - places i've lived and/or gone to school, except the Packers. When I was 3, there was a subdivision in my home town of Graham, NC called Green Way Park. My parents think that may have been how I connected with the Packers. Literally, my earliest memory is watching the Packers stomp the Cowboys circa November 1960.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I hate the fox robot man, but seeing him do the electric slide gives me a mild chuckle everytime.

    ReplyDelete
  107. The Eric Mack & Lattimore tidbits may be true, but I would take a wait and see attitude. I have a feeling they are not decided yet. Especially, Lattimore, who didn't give a commitment and to top it off, there are no quotes. Just like Kathy had Dakota's status last night to what was said today. A lot of time left for things to change or maybe they are not being reported correctly to begin with.

    ReplyDelete
  108. LGG Byron game me the news on Lattimore a few hours ago. He seems to be a few steps ahead of me.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Ditto Wake. Well, except for the chuckle part. That robot is a complete and total waste. Besides, as we all know, robots will kill you.

    ReplyDelete
  110. The Viking mascot / guy looks like a homeless dude brought from off the street. He is funny in the ESPN / Adrian Peterson commercial.

    ReplyDelete
  111. No attempt to tackle Rice by the Safety there, I wonder if he knew he had caught it.

    ReplyDelete
  112. IMHO Howard will be a running back. Dyer is a speed back and Howard has a frame on which to build a power back, 6'2" 190. I've only seen his running back tapes, but they show between the tackles power, vision to see a hole, and speed to jump outside.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I don't buy what the "source" says about Lattimore either.

Mack has a child. That should be his priority.

    ReplyDelete
  114. THT - wouldn't a sloth be a few steps ahead of you since your defeat by a parked car?

    ReplyDelete
  115. Just re-checked - Howard is 6' 0" - yeah, 6' 2" is a little tall for a rb.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Kathy- I agree. Rumor was that Mack had arranged for his child and mother of the child to move close to Auburn which would allow him to come to Auburn. He will stay close to his kid no matter what, and that is exactly what he should do.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Tell that to Erick Dickerson astatguy

    ReplyDelete
  118. Looks like we won't get Trovon Reed. He just left with Gus Malzahn. Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Anonymous12:43 PM

JGT - my heart dropped, you made it sound like he wasn't coming to Auburn...not that you couldn't talk to him....until I saw the left with Malzahn part.

    ReplyDelete
  120. defeat?

Norm, you didn't see the dent I put in that car.

Of course, I didn't see it either. But I was dazed, so that doesn't mean it wasn't there.

    ReplyDelete
  121. AU1 - just remember, JGT is not "we", so if he says "we", he ain't referring to AU.

    ReplyDelete
  122. having said that, AU1, I'm awful glad I read your explanation before I actually saw JGT's post!

    ReplyDelete
  123. You scared the hell out of me Jay G. It sounded like you meant Malzahn was coaching somewhere else, and Reed was going with him.

I though "how did I miss Malzahn leaving?"

    ReplyDelete
  124. Anonymous12:48 PM

THT - I know, it is part of the jumping to conclusions on my part.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I will not be surprised if Jake Holland is in the rotation at LB this fall.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Anonymous12:52 PM

Plus...I am still a bit off with the Ravens losing to the Colts(formerly of Baltimore) for the 8th straight time.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I am skeptical of the info that Kornblut (WTH kind of name is that anyway?) has regarding Mack and Latt... no quotes, just speculation reported as fact. Poor journalism if you ask me.
It could be true... I don't know... but, It sounds a like wishful thinking more than fact.

I bet Reed doesn't leave until later this evening or tomorrow, since he came in a day later than everyone else.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Anonymous1:00 PM

    Rumor on Lattimore:
Rivals has responded to the article in the last 5 minutes saying the article is home cooking and that Latt may just be trying to relieve some of the in state pressure. They still say there is a very, very, very strong chance Latt is Auburn bound.

    ReplyDelete
  129. thanks for that report, AU1.

    ReplyDelete
  130. With Flozell out, your going to see alot of that from here on out.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Anonymous1:03 PM

I have no idea what is accurate or not....NSD seems so far away.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Gonna be hard for the Cowboys to win since Romo has fumblitis

    ReplyDelete
  133. JGT - thanks for the Whitaker report.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I'm guessing thats the last report we will see?

Thanks for all of that Jay. I know recruiting isn't your thing, but its appreciated.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I have added several updates to the main page.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Anonymous1:14 PM

    Thx JGT!!

    ReplyDelete
  137. gotta love the Golden Corral buffet! Or Ryan's!

    ReplyDelete
  138. Nice work JayG. Enjoyed the article and the updates.

    ReplyDelete
  139. You have to respect a kid like Whitaker that doesn't make off the cuff comments and then change his mind. That is maturity and understanding what commitment means.

As for Nosa Eguae, I am thinking he will be the man on defense. Everyone needs to get us to saying that name.

    ReplyDelete
  140. THT- it's bridge time. stop ignoring my emails.

    ReplyDelete
  141. hi 2.0. I haven't even checked email today. Everyone is asleep except me.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Anonymous1:23 PM

I'm already looking ahead to next season...

Who do y'all play on September 11th?

Here's a lineup of games that I can think of so far..

    Penn State at Alabama
    Oregon at Tennessee
    Michigan at Notre Dame
    Florida State at Oklahoma

I may not move all day.

    ReplyDelete
  143. We don't play on the 11th. We have MSU on Thursday night.

    ReplyDelete
  144. We play on Miss State Thursday night that week FSJ, that seems odd to me.

    ReplyDelete
  145. I don't know if it will affect South Carolina recruiting, but they are reporting that Police have confiscated about a ton of marijuana in a drug bust.

    ReplyDelete
  146. That's a wrap for today's recruiting coverage.

I think Jones will pick Auburn. I am fairly confident in that pick.

I also think Whitaker will pick Auburn, but my confidence isn't as high with that pick.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Random thought:

I love college basketball, but I will always hate how it takes 20-30 minutes to play one minute of actual game time at the end of a game.

    That is all.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Jay G, thanks so much for these updates on the recruits! How can any Auburn fan not be excited about the future of AU football as long as the current staff stays in place??

Tar Heel, where was Auburn on that list of yours???

AU1N04, I thought about you yesterday during that game. I was very surprised the way the Colts dismantled your team.

  149. Re: Whitaker... I don't know if it would help, but it sure wouldn't hurt if UGa's new DC could hang around in Dallas til the Super Bowl. GO COWBOYS!

  150. Why does Whitaker look like he is 5 years older than all of the other recruits? He looks like he is ready to head to the NFL.

What do y'all think about that Miss State game?

I think Auburn wins, but I think it is a dangerous game..

  152. LUV - at the top, in a class by itself

    ReplyDelete
  153. so, one time in 50 years of existence the Cowboys have overcome a 14 point deficit and won.

What time does the next game start?

    ReplyDelete
  154. FSJ, I do think MSU could be dangerous. MSU was greatly improved this past season, even if their record didn't exactly reflect it. I think Mullen is going to be as successful as an MSU coach can be, which means similar to Sherrill, if my guess is correct.

  155. FSJ...every SEC game looks dangerous to me.

Especially since we don't have a QB right now. Even if it is Newton, that will be he his first SEC game and first game on the road.

I think it will be tough.

  156. I added an overview for those of you with short attention spans.

    ReplyDelete
  157. The other things about the MSU game is it being Thursday night, very early in the season, and on the road. We only have about 4 road games next season. Two of them are against the Mississippi schools. If there is a game we could pull a Kentucky in, one of those are likely it, if not actually against Kentucky.

  158. After the way MSU played against Ole Miss, I think they and Auburn are going to surprise a lot of people next season. That game will definitely be interesting, FSJ.

Since that game is on a Thursday night, I may have to reconsider going to the PSU-UAT game.

  159. Short attention span?

    I don't have a short attenti...

    Wow, look at the butterfly.

  160. Justin Delaine is a defensive end. The word "end" is missing in the story.

  161. I hope our current commits succeeded in their mission to persuade the uncommitted.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Byran Jones seems like an exciting prospect. I always tend to think you can judge a good linemen by comparing the width of his neck to the width of his head.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Whitaker seems like a mature, very likeable young man.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Excellent answer, Tar Heel!!

  165. I keep getting more and more interested in recruiting as I get older. Years ago, I didn't give a rip one way or the other. Now it is kind of fascinating to see how the stories play out. You love to see a guy like Bates make good, but wonder how a high profile like Hawthorne turned into a UNA player.

  167. Steve, it's the computer era.

  168. Possibly, Kathy. There is definitely more information out there.

  169. Kathy, I would think if anyone knew anything about that, it would be Steve.

  170. Luv, I do pretty much live on the computer.

  171. I can't sit in front of the computer very long - that's why I really appreciate the work that Jay G does.

  172. I have issues that make living in front of a computer a necessity. I do like the outdoors.

  173. Luv, I was just stating the obvious!

On another note, I have always thought Romo was overrated.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Yep, over rated.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Vikings would agree right about now.

Thank you Luv...dismanteling is a very nice way to put what happened....I was leaning more towards debacle.

    ReplyDelete
  177. If Dallas doesn't learn to protect their QBs, it won't matter who the QB is. Peices of Romo were spread all over the field earlier.

    ReplyDelete
  178. This Favre guy, he's a heck of a qb.
