Quick recruiting update

Hey everyone. Just ran across a story off SuperPrep.com that I think you'll find interesting ... provided you have a subscription to the Scout.com family of services.

If you don't, here's a basic review:

Two of Auburn's top targets -- DT Jeffrey Whitaker (pictured) and OL Shon Coleman -- visited Miami this weekend. One of Miami's committed players, a DT from Chicago named Jeffrey Brown, was asked to assess the uncommitted prospects who visited Miami this weekend.

Brown believes Auburn fans will be happy with Whitaker's final decision.

Brown believes Auburn fans will be unhappy with Coleman's final decision.

(I hate to leave you hanging like that, but that information is property of Scout.com.)

ALSO: A fullback out of Mobile by the name of Jay Prosch committed to Illinois this weekend, but told the Illinois Rivals.com site that an offer from Auburn could change all that. Looks like we have identified one of the Tigers' backup plans.

ANOTHER NOTE: Our friends at The Cats' Pause (Kentucky's Rivals.com site) report that Louisiana cornerback Patrick Swilling Jr. may be planning to visit Auburn after National Signing Day. I haven't heard his name before today. He's a two-star player with offers from LSU, Tennessee, Ole Miss and others. Sounds better than a backup player.

  1. Glad this will be over in a few days.

  2. You keep me hangin' on.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Coleman will sign with AU.

Every school that Coleman visits feels he will sign with them yet Auburn is the only school to have Coleman actually comment on.

    ReplyDelete
  4. We shall see.

Again, this was the opinion of a kid who spent the weekend with Whitaker and Coleman. I spent a weekend with a chick named Missy Chisholm back in 1991 and said a lot of things I didn't mean.

    Oh, wait. TMI.

    ReplyDelete
  5. At least the drama will end on Wednesday.

  7. Ok, I think I need an Ipad. That would rock and be much easier to use will slumping in the recliner.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Peter, she bought it just enough.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Au Gals still hanging on to the lead. This one is going to come down to the wire it appears.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Coleman = "100% Auburn"

Thanks for the roundball update, NoVa.

    ReplyDelete
  11. X games are a great appetizer for the Winter Olympics. I love Winter X games. Been glued to them all weekend.

Eddie, I'm thinking of a Mac Mini as media center/household server and an iPad for routine use.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Nova- that sounds like an excellent plan. My next computer will be a mac. Probably get the Ipad by year end.

  15. Thanks for the recruiting updates Jay!

    ReplyDelete
  16. G, maybe I keep missing your answer but I have asked a couple of times about your trip to SC on Tuesday. Are you going because you have a strong feeling that Latt is announcing for AU?

    ReplyDelete
  17. CH- jay G said he was going for the story. No inside info.

I was initially disappointed that the iPad had too little memory to be be the sole computer. But when I thought about it, it's designed to be an interface for cloud computing. You keep everything you aren't currently using on the web or server.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'll update on Lattimore as information becomes available.

  21. Thanks Eddie, but I don't think its worth the trip unless you have a good feeling? I don't think Au fans want a story about how he chose USCe. I have a good feeling that he will be a Tiger though.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Nova- I didn't think of it that way, but makes sense. I was also disappointed by the memory as well.

  25. I uploaded a 26 Mb presentation to google's "cloud" today. Not sure what I can do with it there, but I just wanted to see if I could.

This is probably in the bag,

Any chance we could get Nell to coach both the men and women?

    ReplyDelete
  35. I catch heat everywhere. So what?

    ReplyDelete
  36. If it's the bunker....good luck CH.

    AU 67 UGA 53 Final!

    ReplyDelete
  39. It's actually on AE which I find to be a pretty good blog, but some of them don't have a clue.

Back to your Swilling comment. I've heard his name floating around for a couple of weeks now as a back up plan. He isn't highly rated, but that doesn't matter when you look at his offer list.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Thanks NOVa! They seem to be about as consistent as the guys.

    ReplyDelete
  41. good game ladies, war eagle!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Great to beat the bulldogs at anything. Please football, take the que of recent victories.

    ReplyDelete
  43. How 'bout them Lady Tigers!!!
    Woooo hoooo!!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I had a somewhat heated email exchange with Scott Reaves this week, so I'm not expecting him to say good things about me.

    I think I'll live.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Dangit! I wish we had gone to this game too!! What a great game and great win for the Lady Tigers!!! War Damn Eagle!!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. A few weeks back, Swilling and Stone had been listed on one site for an AU visit this very weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  47. The Miami player said that he didn't really talk to Coleman much, but thinks he is going to Alabama.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Care to share a little more G?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Someone who knows such things says Swilling doesn't have a firm offer from Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'm hoping Swilling doesn't get that offer

    ReplyDelete
  51. Some may not like the AE website, but there people are pretty up to date. I've been following it for a couple of months now and they have been spot on. They were the only ones saying that Mack was coming even after he said he was "100% committed and finished with recruiting".

    ReplyDelete
  52. Yeah he doesn't have an offer yet because of his "backup plan" status. I'm with you Eddie I hope that offer doesn't come.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Congrats to Auburn's fine young women.

    What a week.

Beat UGA in gymnastics for the first time ever on Friday. Beat Bama in b-ball on Saturday. Upset the Lady Dawgs today.

Get you some, Amen Corner rivals!

    War Eagle!

    ReplyDelete
  54. CH- rivals Jeffrey Lee never waivered on Mack to Auburn either. He has been spot on this year.

    ReplyDelete
  55. CH=B, I accidentally used one of his pictures on the blog. He asked me to give him credit, which was a reasonable request, but I instead chose to remove the picture completely.

He asked why I'd do that ... and I told him that I didn't want to follow his lead by ganking stuff straight off someone else's site. He claims to have never engaged in that kind of behavior. I know better.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I have no opinion on the AE site or the people who post there. I've only been there once or twice ... and that was to laugh at Scott Reaves' claims that he generates million of hits per month.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Big Win for Coach Fortner and the Lady Tigers! Bye Bye Lady Dawgs!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Jay G, your post around 6:25 made me LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Thanks for sharing G.

Neal McCready said earlier this week that he was 90% sure Coleman was going to Turdistan. He is now trying to back track a bit by saying Coleman feels the walmartians have too many linemen.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I support people who go out and carve themselves a niche -- how could I hate on someone for that? -- but you've gotta be real about what you are where you've been.

    ReplyDelete
  61. ps: I listen to what McCready says. He's plugged in.

    ReplyDelete
  62. G, I get what you are saying but I don't know enough about who you are talking about in order to fully understand.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Fair enough. Story over.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I can't trust any walmartian.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Tar Heel and Eddie, I hope you guys are right about Coleman, but - not that it matters what I think - I want players that really want to be at Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I'm pretty sure Howard had his offer pulled.

Headline would read: Howard offer pulled?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Howard says he'll decide between AU, CU, & KY on NSD. Yep, I don't think it's AU.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Maybe Howard will take a walk-on position.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I firmly believe that Howard will stay/go depending on Latt. The coaches may have pulled his offer because they are really confident in landing Latt.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Luv, I agree with you! I only want guys who want Auburn otherwise use another school to make your next step.

    ReplyDelete
  71. G, what you do think of Andy Bitter? He brings a lot of content to his blog. It's always a nice read, but for some reason he doesn't seem to have many followers.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Howard is off the table...
He'll choose between Clemson and UK, regardless of what Lattimore does (whether that is come to AU or come to AU)

    ReplyDelete
  73. WEG, exactly! I want them to want to play for Auburn so much that they'll play in whatever position the coaches ask them to just so they can play at Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  74. DM you may be right but he has too much talent not to take if you have a spot for him.

    ReplyDelete
  75. CH=B - I'm not G, but I like Andy Bitter's blog a lot. I just don't ever remember to check it. I'm too addicted to HABOTN.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Anonymous7:28 PM

I know McCready and Jay are friends but I can't stand him.

Folks on Tiderinsider to this day send him copies of his column declaring that Alabama had been passed and that they didn't have a chance at Saban in the aftermath of the Shula firing. They post his responses. Some of them are pretty funny. He doesn't take it very well.

    ReplyDelete
  77. did you send that post from your iPad, FSJ?

    ReplyDelete
  78. btw, FSJ, RSJ looked awful gaunt the other day.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Andy Bitter does a nice job with his blog, absolutely.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Watching AU victim Virginia lead UNC at the Dean Dome ... can't help notice vast areas of fans disguised as empty seats in the upper reaches of the house that Dean built.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I bet that's on my tv somewhere, Jet. Who cares? It ain't March yet.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Thanks for the new thread, Gizzle ... I was stuck in SKIBOTN.

I enjoy watching the Winter Games, but that was enough. All I could think of, though, was when SteveFC was on the beginning of "ABC's Wide World of Sports" during his ill-fated ski jumping run long celebrated as the "agony of defeat."

    THT...sent from my iMac.

I was a little surprised at how inexpensive (by Apple standards) the iPad is going to be. I am disappointed in the crappy name...shoulda gone with iSlate.

I'd rather have a new 27 inch iMac instead of the iPad. I bet it sells well though.

I doubt we ever see Jobs looking "healthy" again.

I just recently started reading some of the Fan blogs like AE and other rival sites like CockyTalk(SC) and others, just to see what they say during recruiting.

Most of it is pretty dull and seem like endless loops of misinformation, but as soon as as new article is posted they are on it with a link, even pay articles.

What I find most interesting, is reading them in retrospect. I Posted this earlier, but I read the last ten pages of the Eric Mack thread on CockyTalk.
It was a great read, dramatic,
I think you could cut and paste the last of the thread and put it in Harper's.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Seemed a perfectly legitimate post to me. Not sure why you'd delete it.

    ReplyDelete
  87. FSJ's hackin' again.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Could be since it was directed towards his stupid school.

  91. FYI ... with less than 15 minutes to go ... Virginia, WHICH LOST TO AUBURN, leads UNC by 21 at the Dean Dome.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Well, I made it to Nashville with no problem. However, daughter and I got out to get some groceries and while we were gone the drive into their apartment complex refroze. Lots of people stranded. Thankfully my new Honda zipped right up the hill! Doesn't get above freezing until afternoon tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Fire Roy!!!

Norm - I had homemade tater soup. It was so yummy. Ice cream coming up very soon.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Cincy - i was wondering about 15 minutes ago when we'd hear from you. So glad y'all are safe.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Glad you are safe and sound Cincy.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Jet - you'd be hard pressed to find a team that hasn't led UNC by 21 this year.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Poor DJ Howard... we barely knew him! I must admit that for us to be recruiting as well as we are, NSD can not come soon enough for me.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Hate that I missed whatever was in the deleted post.

    Who deleted btw?

    ReplyDelete
  99. B, probably a good decision.

  100. BREAKING NEWS:

    DeSean Jackson is fast...

    ReplyDelete
  101. I just put up my 2nd post ever on the AE board to defend the honor of Jay G. But in posting this, I realize I am making 2 big confessions - that I have read another blog, and that I even read it before coming to the HABOTN. I'm so ashamed, but confession is good for the soul.

I have never followed recruiting very closely until this year, and thought that people who really kept up with it lead pitiful lives. What is happening to me?

    ReplyDelete
  102. Coosa... recruiting has a different feel to it this year.
I don't remember a year like this where we were on the edge of our seats for 4 and 5 stars and impact players... rather than trying to rummage up information on a little known 2 or 3 star and convincing ourselves that the coach may turn them into something.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Thanks for your support, coos, but feel like you gotta defend me ... or us. That's why the HABOTN is awes. We don't have to hate.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Nova, You don't by chance own a 05 Titan do you?

    ReplyDelete
  105. What is the accusation exactly?

    ReplyDelete
  106. This should be a fun week to be an AU fan... Starting tomorrow shortly after lunch.
A full 5 course meal. Tomorrow you get the appetizer, Tuesday the soup and salad, Wednesday your entree... Desert may be held off until the weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  107. What if I don't eat salad D.M? Could I possibly get an extra side?

I'm just not a salad guy.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  112. What is "AE," please?

    (damn the cryptic acronyms)

    ReplyDelete
  113. Haha a Nissan Titan, its their full size truck.

There is a guy on a Titan site I am on named NovaTitan, who lives in Alexandria, Virginia. I knew your form that away so I thought it might be you.

  117. I concur with Dmiller.

The diet is over. We are about to have a Thanksgiving feast, which is great for AU. Like Dmiller says, I am pleased with the class we have coming in and feel sure that we don't have to hear about getting 2-3 stars and coaching them up. I want 4-5 stars and let our guys coach them up.

    ReplyDelete
  118. FSJ... you didn't miss anything... it was silly and absurd nothingness.

And where's Steve from Lubbock? Has he pulled a Monica?

    ReplyDelete

  125. The title on the website it self says Auburn Eagle Comm'r.

I've been going there for the past couple months, and I didn't catch on either.

    ReplyDelete
  126. My goal last summer was to build a HABOTN site that had a message board like that ... but The Man shut me down with a quickness.

With that said, I'm cool with our position here. Reportage = good.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Never heard of AE 'til now.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Wake, shame on you and your cheatin' heart

    ReplyDelete
  129. As long as you have love in your heart for the HABOTN, you're true.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Jimmy,

    Thanks for linking that post.

I agree 100%. My 3 year old daughter can already do a bunch of things on my iPhone. She gets the transition from photo to photo. She can unlock the thing...

With the iPad running the iPhone OS...it will be the same there. The window of users is much wider than a traditional PC or Mac.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I have an open relationship with the HABOTN. I will occasionally browse other websites, but HABOTN always knows who I return to at night.

In turn I don't get jealous of all you other hotties.

    ReplyDelete
  132. I have "love" and huge infatuation for that little brunette on the new Cisco commercials ("Helen"?). She's not "hot" but she's extreeeemely cute. Just fyi in case anyone has her number. I'm looking for a new stalking target.

    ReplyDelete
  133. I am revoking my commitment to Auburn.

I will be signing with Sewanee instead.

    ReplyDelete
  134. But you believe in Auburn and love it FSJ, how could you turn your back on that?

    ReplyDelete
  135. Where is turfboy or whatever his name is that kept telling me I had no idea what I was talking about with Shon Coleman?

    ReplyDelete
  136. Would you ever consider stalking Flo from the Progressive commercial? Just askin'.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Flo looks and acts like a wild one.

    ReplyDelete
  138. As far as looking at other blogs...it doesn't matter where you get your appetite as long as you come back home to eat.

    ReplyDelete
  139. I have a deep seeded hatred towards Flo.

It deepens everytime she appears on my television set.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Anonymous9:01 PM

Thanks for the link Jimmy. I agree that the iPad will eventually redefine mobile computing.

People tend to forget that the first iPod was not a immediate slam dunk either. It took a couple of generations to add features and bring price down.

    ReplyDelete
  141. G, do you know an ex Montgomery Ad. reporter that goes by rednilla on AE? Even though you don't care they are still talking about the HABOTN over there. When the haters come out you know you have something good.

    ReplyDelete
  142. so wtc. coleman to au or ua

    ReplyDelete
  143. JayG, do you mean "Kiss My Grits!" Flo? That Flo (??????). I know no other

    ReplyDelete
  144. Coleman wants to be apart of UA's class they havent given him a firm committable offer yet but probably will soon because Stone will go to UT

    ReplyDelete
  145. We beat Bama last time we played.

    Just sayin'....

    ReplyDelete
  146. I'd never heard of "AE" either before tonight. But, I'm a one blog man. Anything AU related I want to know, I get here or from some online news site that Homer writes for.

    GET SOME!

    ReplyDelete
  147. Jhag, you couldn't be more wrong..sorry man. They have offered and he hasn't switched. He is still coming to AU. You almost sound like a walmartian.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Coleman signs with AU, IMO. I still hear he is solid to AU. Just wanted to take some trips.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I always get some mister Tate

    ReplyDelete
  150. Note: jhag is already talking sh_ _ about his Coleman prediction being correct when all remains murky. Dangerous waters you are in, young jedi. Proceed caution or your foes may "get some" come signing day.

    ReplyDelete
  151. If Im wrong Im wrong its just a prediction

    ReplyDelete
  152. I don't know jack about recruiting. I will be glad to let you know how good we did by later this week though.

    ReplyDelete
  153. i have only heard his is au

    ReplyDelete
  154. Auburn's about to clean up ... you can take that to the bank!

    ReplyDelete
  155. I predict that Auburn Men's BB will not be in the NCAA Final Four this year. Sorry, guys.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Did you hear that guys, comm'r is a bammer.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Anonymous9:23 PM

I've seen jhag hang out on sites full of young punks that spew at each other while each acts like they know what is going on.

I'm wondering how a high school kid from So Fla could know those kind of explicit details about what Bama is doing with Coleman ...OR is it just juvenile rumors being passed around with a lot of attitude.

.....methinks the latter ....regardless of where Coleman ends up.

    ReplyDelete
  158. I agree Nova, I think it will evolve into something we have not even thought of. It has the best interface, with the best multi-touch screen in the world.

btw...did anybody watch 60 min with those Green Berets with the beards.

    Those guys are bad ass.

    ReplyDelete
  159. You know, dear children, that I turn to the Good Book in times like these.

"Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest." -- John 4:35 (King James Version).

Harvest time is nigh, brethren. May our reapers be strong and not faint. May our crops be bountiful. And let us smite our enemies with the forearm shiver of righteousness.

    Verily, and good night.

    ReplyDelete
  160. correction**
didnt have one before this weekend BUT
Shon Coleman left his official visit with a committable offer from the Crimson Tide.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Hey Wake, you wanna step outside? Huh???!!! That's what I thought!

    ReplyDelete
  162. No Comm'r we got another cold snap and it's in the 40's tonight. So I'll pass, but thanks for the offer.

    ReplyDelete
  163. So Whitaker decides tomorrow, if he commits to Au that MIGHT push us ahead of Bama on rivals

    ReplyDelete
  164. Here's another prediction: JayGT does NOT win a Grammy tonight. Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  165. UAt picked up a DB this evening. a JUCO that most thought they would get.

    ReplyDelete
  166. I hear Coleman spoke with Au coaches by phone just awhile ago.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Dequan Menzie, so nevermind Bama will boost up in the rankings as well

    ReplyDelete
  168. Jay G - Accusation was that you were an AU hater. At least, that was the one I addressed. I think there were several others, but you had about as many defenders as detractors.

    D. Miller - So you think there is a chance I return to being normal after Wed? :)

    ReplyDelete
  169. jhag-I think Au stays with them when Whitaker commits. Don't you?

    ReplyDelete
  170. Yeah we will certainly be right there on their heels, Whitaker is a much better prospect, but im not sure how the point system works for the rankings

    ReplyDelete
  171. So the coaches spoke with Coleman...what came out of said discussion?

    ReplyDelete
  172. Not feelings so confident on Latti anymore, are you wtc?

    ReplyDelete
  173. Me neither. It will not bother me where AU winds up in the rankings. This a very good class. AU has to build on this class by getting another one like it in 2011. I am not a kool-aid drinker, so i am not going to start the 'we are going to win the west stuff.' You have to put a good product on the field. This class will help put a better product on the field than this last season if only because AU has more talented players to fill in as backups.

  175. Seanzi- I thought no one would ask. I just heard that he called to say he was all AU and would sign with AU Wednesday. This person feels very confident in telling me that. He wasn't earlier because no one had heard from Coleman.

  176. Jhag. I still feel confident with Lattimore. I could be all wrong but I feel he comes to AU.

Just my opinion, but the only reason to stay at SoCarolina is to be close to home. Have they ever won more than 8 games in a season since SS has been there. They have played some good teams very close, but SS can't get enough athletes. If he stays, he should think of the quote that Newton's dad had. he will be a rented mule.

  177. Coleman had a committable offer before this weekend... the myth that is being tossed about by UAT media that he didn't have a committable offer was just that... a myth spewed by UAT media...
    He signs with AU.

don't believe everything you read on a USCjr message board regarding Lattimore....

  178. Why would Latt be a silent to USCjr like they think he is? IT would help USCjr efforts to have a stud like Latt committed...
He has already said if he was going to USCjr he would already be committed.
When was the last time Spurrier put a decent running game together?

  180. Where did you hear Coleman had a committable offer before this?

  181. If he does sign with USC, I feel like it's because he was pressured, and I feel sorry for the young man. I am a homer. Auburn would be the best place for him.

  184. If he does sign with USCe its bc it is his hometown state, everyone around him wants him to be a gamecock, and he is scared of Dyer

  185. JayG-A great story, when this is done would be to ask some of these kids about their visits to other schools. How they went? Why they chose AU? Why they did not choose another school?

Since on some sites you are an AU homer and others you are an AU hater, you could possibly feed both sides.

  186. I can't wait until Wednesday!!! I think it is going to be so fun. But, I am not going to have access to computer so I am going to have to figure out how to get news.

  187. Both are good reasons to stay home. I just think he would have announced for usce already if that's where he wanted to go.

  188. Jhag... Who are you committing to?

  189. You think he is scared of Dyer? I haven't heard that, but I don't read everything. Where did that come from? I only hear they are friends and talk all the time.
