The HABOTN® Super Bowl thread
Hey everyone. Let's watch the big game and talk about it.
Sounds like fun.
Extra attention will be placed upon Indianapolis CB Jerraud Powers, who would have won the EAABWAA Good Guy Award had it been real prior to 2009. He played at Auburn.
I'm tired of seeing Bands from the 70's in the half time show. I love the Who as much as anyone. But I would rather watch a recording of one of their concerts from back in the day then watch a 60 year old lip synch the song.
My condolences, JayG. My paternal grandfather died when I was 4. I'm pretty sure he would have been one of my favoritest people. My maternal grandfather was a great guy, too. But he always called me Pete, even from before I was born.
So, lame halftime show. I saw Tommy in my teens, and thought it was neat, so I think The Who did cool thing at one time, but feel like there comes a point in your life that you're too old to be a rock star.
15 former SEC players in tonights game... 9 SEC teams represented.
Saints: 8 former SEC players Robert Meachem, Jabari Greer, Marvin Mitchell (UT), Devery Henderson, Randall Gay (LSU), Roman Harper (UAT), Jon Stinchcomb (UGA), Bobby McCray (UF) *Heath Evans (AU) is on Saints IR
Colts: 7 former SEC players Joseph Addai (LSU), Tim Jennings (UGA), Antonio Johnson (MSU), Peyton Manning (UT), Jerraud Powers (AU), Jacob Tamme (UK), Tony Ugoh (Arky)
SEC Teams not represented tonight - Ole Miss, Vandy, South Carolina
Loved the Bud Light "lost" commeercial. Highlight of halftime show -- just after The Who finished the 15 x 18 foot monitor my conference rented and placed on an outdoor veranda toppled over.
you wouldn't wanna date my sister wake... I'd be in your head...everytime you looked at her you'd see me... it would just be too weird (unless you're into that kind of thing...and then it is too weird and you can't date my sister)
I was fortunate to have all four of my grandparents all the way thru college. I'm extremely blessed that my paternal grandmother sent me a nice card on my 49th birthday a few months ago.
And at the age of 98, her hate for all things Crimson would make Jet proud.
One of the main attractions is 'Fearless Freep' and his high-dive act. As soon as Yosemite Sam hears the name 'Fearless Freep', he goes into a frenzy, buying as many tickets as he can. (I'm a-splurgin'!)
Heard that > 100 UAT fans gathered to hear big & big time OL Spencer Region announce his commitment to the Tahd (2011) and ... he committed to Auburn!! Apparently, a HUGE surprise.
How cool would it be to be the only Auburn fan there screaming while the Crimson faithful glared? Sweet....
This may sound terribly insensitive... but N'Awlins will be destroyed tonight by looters and crackheads... it will look like another hurricane came through there...
Good evening to all the hotties! I am back from the Grand Hotel and FREEZING cold Fairhope.
I'm sorry to hear about your granddad, Jay. My grandaddies were two of my most favorite people in the whole world.
I didn't read through all 800 + posts from the last couple of days. Did I miss anything big? I know Auburn men and women lost close BB games. And the Saints won. Anything else?
i've sorted recyclables (it really is easier without a spine), had my ice cream, and finished my homework. Time for a little shuteye before long commute to Southern Pines in a.m.
Hi Folks. It was a long day, but I made it to Oregon and was actually able to see most of the second half of the Super Bowl because my flight got in 45 minutes early. That was different. The pilot said that they weren't encountering the expected head winds. I suspect he wanted to see the Super Bowl too.
I missed the second half kickoff/onside kick. Other than that, I saw the scoring in the second half including the overturn on the two point play, which was a great call, and the interception to seal the deal.
Super Bowl games are known to disappoint and this one didn't it was great and although I am not s Saints fan, I was pulling for them. I still picture a Saints fan with a paper bag on their heads.
the only things i can think of that would sound better are:
"i would like to present the bcs trophy to coach chizik and the AU tigers."
"after much deliberation, the infractions committee has determined the only remedy for the repeated displays of lack of institutional control at the university of alabama is the termination of the football program for 3 years."
Over the last several years, the SB bowl commercials have gotten pretty lame. The only ones I thought were truly funny were the first two Doritos commericals - the one with the dog and the one with the little boy.
Monday morning blues...seems to be spitting snow. I crunched when I went out on the back deck. My daughter kept me up until 1:00 a.m. playing Words with Friends which is a Scrabble app for the iPhone. Very addictive. Off to work. Catch up with you at lunch.
For rent: Ski Condo Location: Arlington, VA Ski Area: Capitol Hill Ski in Ski out, 24 inch base with fresh powder expected in 48hrs. Access is by ski or snowmobile only.
Glad to be back at work, Scottie? While I'm very thankful to have a job, I'm never glad to be back on Monday. I will, however, be glad to get back to the gym today. I didn't go at all last week and I feel like a lump.
Oh, me too, Luv. After 3 days with my daughter and then 4 days with my sisters, I can't wait to get back to the elliptical. I could have exercised when I was with them, but eating was so much more fun!
JGT/Homer - Nice article today. I really enjoy how you put the true gems in your stories on the 2nd page.
Sorry for your loss. My paternal grandfather dies before I was 1; so I have no memories of him, just some pictures of the two of us. My maternal grandfather died at 86 when I was in college. He was a pretty cool dude in my book. There's no way I could play golf at Lagoon and get past #3 without thinking of him and laughing.
Morning Hotties. My condolences Mr. Tate Sorry I missed last night's Super Bowl talk but I went to my daughter's for the game. Cold but sunny so far here on the banks of the Coosa River.
Another great article by the Homer. I will be off for a while am gonig to try and break even with Uncle Sam. I do my own taxes and at this stage of life I just hope I don't owe Uncle anything and it's fine if he doesn't owe me.
Good morning errybody! Condolences to JGT. Lost my grandfather when i was a senior in highschool. It was tough for a while..i was very close to him.
On a brighter note, K3 played in his first basketball game Saturday a.m. We knew they had a good chance of winning since his coach was NOT named Lebo..even if it is rec league.
so far on this slow day we have had almost as many posts as on the entire NSD in 2008... today's count no doubt spuriously elevated by my numerous substanceless posts.

ReplyDeleteSmokin....
ReplyDeleteSafely home!!!
ReplyDeleteGot your iPad yet?
ReplyDeletePete & Roger are gettin' on up there. I still love The Who.
ReplyDeleteSorry for being out of contact for a few days. My graddad was one of my favoritest people ... and it sucked having to bury him.
ReplyDeleteBut life goes on! Circle or life and all that.
Waker...why would they ban the three point stance?
ReplyDeleteJay...glad you are back...I'm not gonna get the iPad.
I'm saving for the 27 inch iMac..
Circle OF life, of course.
ReplyDeleteI want an iMac, too.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we can lobby RSJ for a package discount.
Sorry for you loss JGT.
ReplyDeleteI'm tired of seeing Bands from the 70's in the half time show. I love the Who as much as anyone. But I would rather watch a recording of one of their concerts from back in the day then watch a 60 year old lip synch the song.
ReplyDeleteMy condolences, JayG. My paternal grandfather died when I was 4. I'm pretty sure he would have been one of my favoritest people. My maternal grandfather was a great guy, too. But he always called me Pete, even from before I was born.
ReplyDeleteis there a game on tonight?
So, lame halftime show. I saw Tommy in my teens, and thought it was neat, so I think The Who did cool thing at one time, but feel like there comes a point in your life that you're too old to be a rock star.
ReplyDeleteJGT,
ReplyDeleteSorry for your loss... glad you made it home safely.
I'm sorry for your loss JGT.
ReplyDeleteSupposedly to cut down on concussions FSJ.
For the record, I'm well under 45 and I happen to like The Who.
ReplyDeleteI think they should get EW&F or The Commodores for a SB halftime show. Keep it in My Generation.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the kind tidings.
ReplyDeleteAlmost bought a UK2K shirt in Lexington. My last thread of journalistic integrity turned me around. I don't want you all thinking I'm a UK fan ...
I'm half way to 45 and I love the Who, but a rock concert by 60 year olds is still lame.
ReplyDeleteApparently, Rock Band begins offering a Who download package beginning ... NOW.
ReplyDeleteyou're such a UK homer.
ReplyDeleteIs Gene Chizik coaching the Saints?
ReplyDeleteumm.... somebody has brass balls.... and he wears a fleur de lis on his visor.
ReplyDeleteActually FSJ, a turn of the millennium edition of Tubs is coaching.
ReplyDelete15 former SEC players in tonights game... 9 SEC teams represented.
ReplyDeleteSaints: 8 former SEC players
Robert Meachem, Jabari Greer, Marvin Mitchell (UT), Devery Henderson, Randall Gay (LSU), Roman Harper (UAT), Jon Stinchcomb (UGA), Bobby McCray (UF)

Joseph Addai (LSU), Tim Jennings (UGA), Antonio Johnson (MSU), Peyton Manning (UT), Jerraud Powers (AU), Jacob Tamme (UK), Tony Ugoh (Arky)
SEC Teams not represented tonight - Ole Miss, Vandy, South Carolina
Does field position really matter against Manning, though? He's going to either score on you or not, no matter if they start from the 10 or 50.
ReplyDeleteManning hasn't completed a pas since the 9:27 mark in the 2nd quarter. He hasn't attempted one since the 8:30 mark.
ReplyDeleteSaints doing a good job of keeping him off the field.
TD!!!
ReplyDeleteWho dat?
ReplyDelete"he is either going to score on you or not" That was very Bob Davieish PF.
ReplyDeleteI think Malzahn is calling plays, the dumb reverse call earlier and the onside kick.
ReplyDeleteBig-time call by Payton.
ReplyDeletei hope y'all don't mind that I turned my tv off after The Who (which was a really cool show...if you're into the lights).
ReplyDeleteHard to concentrate on HABOTN and my studies with a boring NFL game on.
boring NFL... sorry for the redundancy
ReplyDeleteMy condolences JG.
ReplyDeleteI love the Who but I thought that performance was a little sad.
Me likey the Megan Fox tub commercial.
ReplyDeleteRoger Daltrey will be 66 in less than a month. Pete Townshend will be 65 in 3 months. When is rock star mandatory retirement age?
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, in the Freep household, we've been watching the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet.
ReplyDeleteMegan Fox in a tub.... nice...
ReplyDeleteWait... no, I can no longer think that... after finding out Fox is my sister's doppelganger... I had to remove her from my list.
I watched that earlier today Freep.... there was nothing else on.
ReplyDeleteLoved the Bud Light "lost" commeercial. Highlight of halftime show -- just after The Who finished the 15 x 18 foot monitor my conference rented and placed on an outdoor veranda toppled over.
ReplyDeleteHa, wake. Maybe I chose the wrong career. I could have a sweet job and a legion of haters.
ReplyDeleteThere was a point that I was trying to make there, though.
D. Miller, she picked Megan Fox?
ReplyDeleteThat's a tall order right there.
officials are letting them play... more bumping going on than a nascar race.
ReplyDeleteJet, did you boo the setup guys?
ReplyDeleteHey D Miller remember when you told me you wanted me to meet your family? You remember that don't you? Well you did. We can start with your sister.
ReplyDeleteJGT,
ReplyDeleteIt was Fox or Jessica Alba... toss up. Sadly I have had to remove both from my list.
...and isn't it a little chilly to be outdoors watching the game?
ReplyDeleteWhere has this Joseph Addai been all season? Where's he been for the past 2 seasons for that matter?
ReplyDeleteAnd the Colts strike back!
ReplyDeleteD. Miller, I totally understand. I'd have the permanent heebie-jeebies after that one.
ReplyDeleteAmazingly the monitor didn't break.
ReplyDeleteThat last Bridgestone Commercial was kinda weird but pretty funny.
ReplyDeleteWake, you seem like a nice guy... She is only 18 though...
ReplyDeleteBridgestone chick was hot!
ReplyDeleteHaha oh well I tried D.
ReplyDeleteMilka what?
Wake thought he had a home run waiting there, too!
ReplyDeletelove the e-trade baby commercials!
ReplyDeletecoke commercial....wtf?
you wouldn't wanna date my sister wake... I'd be in your head...everytime you looked at her you'd see me... it would just be too weird (unless you're into that kind of thing...and then it is too weird and you can't date my sister)
ReplyDeletenice play by Powers
ReplyDeleteCondolences on your loss, JGT.
ReplyDeleteI was fortunate to have all four of my grandparents all the way thru college. I'm extremely blessed that my paternal grandmother sent me a nice card on my 49th birthday a few months ago.
And at the age of 98, her hate for all things Crimson would make Jet proud.
It would be especially disturbing if I pictured the Hoff D.
ReplyDeleteIs anyone else a little perturbed by the fact that our gov't is spending cash on (uber-expensive) adspace during the SB for the frickin census?
ReplyDeleteGoogle > Bing\Yahoo\Everything else
ReplyDeletelove the sock monkey.... I used to have a sock monkey...
ReplyDeleteCensus budget is absolutely insane.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone wants to take me to the Masters this year.... just please let me know...
ReplyDeleteoh sheesh.... this guy? seriously?
ReplyDeleteI am apparently talking to myself now...
ReplyDeleteYou can't defend that quick slant like that... perfect timing
ReplyDeleteI'm still here DM.
ReplyDeleteTurned into a pretty good game.
You could have Jammed the WR.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but Reggie Wayne is one of the toughest to jam at the line... he gets off the ball as well as any WR in the league.
ReplyDeleteHe has good get-off.
ReplyDeletethat. was. stupid.
ReplyDeleteOne of the main attractions is 'Fearless Freep' and his high-dive act. As soon as Yosemite Sam hears the name 'Fearless Freep', he goes into a frenzy, buying as many tickets as he can. (I'm a-splurgin'!)
ReplyDeletereferring to the emerald nuts commercial....
ReplyDeleteVery True.
ReplyDeleteYou also could have pulled one of these
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Dfn00WAL_4
That always works.
Heard that > 100 UAT fans gathered to hear big & big time OL Spencer Region announce his commitment to the Tahd (2011) and ... he committed to Auburn!! Apparently, a HUGE surprise.
ReplyDeleteHow cool would it be to be the only Auburn fan there screaming while the Crimson faithful glared? Sweet....
Fearless Freep? THAT'S M'BOY!
ReplyDeleteNotice I didn't say Richard?
ReplyDeleteGive him SIX!
ReplyDeleteThat was a catch for the 2-point conversion
ReplyDeleteWas that Bevo?
ReplyDeleteDang, a game base on Dante?
ReplyDeleteMay have to try that one.
Good to see that call.
ReplyDeleteHe deserved those two points. Awesome effort.
I think Stevie Wonder could have found an open WR with that much time to throw
ReplyDeleteShout out to Kennesaw, GA
ReplyDeleteThe green police commercial couldn't be any dumber.
ReplyDeleteWell actually it could have been for a hybrid instead of a TDI.
ReplyDeleteThe Round Mound in prime time. Guess there's always forgiveness in TV land.
ReplyDeleteThere's been one guy in the left rear surround channel yelling "AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH" for almost the entire game.
ReplyDeleteHa. Chuck's so goofy.
ReplyDeleteWow!!
ReplyDelete!@#%$%$#$@^#$#$^$!@$^!$#$^%#$@%!@$^$#!^#$^#$ $#^#@^#%^#$%#$^#$^#@^$#!^!
ReplyDeleteWho dat? Manning not dat.
ReplyDeleteA precision drive and ... NOT
ReplyDeleteWas that Everyman Joe's Gym?
ReplyDeleteOk, Manning... you owe me 2 TD's in the next 3 minutes...
ReplyDeleteOr a TD and a FG... and the Saints a FG
Otherwise you just cost me $100... jackarse
Fail whale out. Twitter not dat, either.
ReplyDeleteYou had the saints giving up points? Where'd you manage that?
ReplyDeleteit was a magic square office pool.... I had Indy with 7 and saints with 4....
ReplyDeleteI guess if the Saints get it back and kick a FG I'm still good...
ReplyDeleteI need a saints FG
Oh. Ha.
ReplyDeleteI've seen this show before.
ReplyDeleteI was at the Colts comeback against the Bucs in 03... it hurt.
You have stopped Manning the whole game, why do anything different now?
ReplyDeleteNah, Shaq just said on twitter that the Saints are Super Bowl Champs.
ReplyDeletea running play? wtf?
ReplyDeleteI'm tired of hearing who dat.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm still glad the Colts didn't win it.
Hooray.
ReplyDeleteWhom is that?
ReplyDeleteBourbon street, during Mardi Gras, with the Saints winning = bedlam.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to be on St. Charles St. right now.
ReplyDeleteBourbon would be too wild for me.
ReplyDeletefrickin screwed.... i got screwed...
ReplyDeleteBrees was scheduled to do a couple of parades this week. He just added another, and made those that much bigger.
ReplyDeletethe parades at Disney World, PF?
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing more annoying than who dat is geaux (insert team from Louisiana here)
ReplyDeleteThis may sound terribly insensitive... but N'Awlins will be destroyed tonight by looters and crackheads... it will look like another hurricane came through there...
ReplyDeleteYou couldn't pay me to be in that town tonight.
Mardi Gras,THT.
ReplyDeleteThis should end the 'Manning is the greatest ever' talk... he choked in another big game...he choked.
ReplyDeleteWho dat? Geaux Saints.
ReplyDeleteD Miller ... My boss is at the same conference, and he was in the same boat with you -- a $5,000 boat.
ReplyDeleteBy the way... remember Drew Brees wasn't good enough to play for Saban.
ReplyDeleteAs @OGOchoCinco would say... I am level 5 pisstified right now.
ReplyDeletetime for me to sort the recyclables.
ReplyDeleteDid I miss something tonight? We were out shopping for a sofa and love seat.
ReplyDeletePottery Barn did not have any TV's.
Seems to have worked out well for Brees and Saban.
ReplyDeleteThere was a commercial about you tonight, WTC...
ReplyDeleteFSJ,
ReplyDeleteI now share your hatred of Peyton Manning....
Which one Dmiller?
ReplyDeleteJay G.,
ReplyDeleteMy condolences on your loss.

ReplyDeleteWill see you all in the morning. Must go catch up with loving hubby. :)
i've sorted recyclables (it really is easier without a spine), had my ice cream, and finished my homework. Time for a little shuteye before long commute to Southern Pines in a.m.

ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry.

the only things i can think of that would sound better are:

Good morning, Hotties! UGH, Monday again. :-(
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry for your loss, Jay G.
Over the last several years, the SB bowl commercials have gotten pretty lame. The only ones I thought were truly funny were the first two Doritos commericals - the one with the dog and the one with the little boy.
Good morning all.
ReplyDeleteThis is a pretty funny video of how mad "shorty" got when Region committed to AU.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CF91uv-72PQ
Hottie Ho!! Glad to be back, but Luv is right - Monday's are tough, especially after a week out of town.
ReplyDeleteCH=B, that video was hilarious. Some people are so creative.
Here's to a great Monday!
Monday morning blues...seems to be spitting snow. I crunched when I went out on the back deck. My daughter kept me up until 1:00 a.m. playing Words with Friends which is a Scrabble app for the iPhone. Very addictive. Off to work. Catch up with you at lunch.
ReplyDeleteThat was funny.
ReplyDeletemorning all. actually glad to be back at work this morning.

Glad to be back at work, Scottie? While I'm very thankful to have a job, I'm never glad to be back on Monday. I will, however, be glad to get back to the gym today. I didn't go at all last week and I feel like a lump.
ReplyDeleteOh, me too, Luv. After 3 days with my daughter and then 4 days with my sisters, I can't wait to get back to the elliptical. I could have exercised when I was with them, but eating was so much more fun!
ReplyDeleteCincy, eating is always so much more fun!
ReplyDeleteMorning Folks

ReplyDeleteWhen February ends, I will not miss it.
ReplyDeleteIt just started, PF.
ReplyDeleteThat doesn't change anything,Luv.
ReplyDeleteBe that as it may Alec, those people have never been in my kitchen.
ReplyDeleteSo now that the Saints have saved New Orleans from Hurricane Katrina, it seems we are now football-less for a few months.
ReplyDeleteI like February. There are some very important birthdays in February, namely 2.0, my best friend from jr high & high school, and of course, FSJ.
ReplyDeleteCH=B - that was so creative and funny. Thanks for sharing.
