My journey heads east

Hey everyone. I soon will begin my trip toward Spartanburg, S.C., where tailback Marcus Lattimore will make his decision between Auburn and South Carolina later today.

As I have said before, I am going for the story. Don't read too much into my decision to go. I'm not going because I'm 100% sold on him choosing Auburn. I'm going because ESPN says he's the nation's top tailback recruit and this situation has intrigued me since last summer.

Lattimore's announcement is scheduled for 5 p.m. CST. I'll update you if that changes.

Steve...didn't say it did make them an idiot.

Just saying this isn't wholly an Obama idea.

Like Commish said, it's a bi-partisan deal. Don't think you can really attack party affiliation on this one.

There is really no difference between a republican and a democrat. The only purpose they serve is allowing you to vote for who will lie to you for the next four years, which some call democracy.

Speaking of take it somewhere else, this is getting very close to a political discussion.

I know bigdaddy. I felt like I might be experiencing typical Bammer evening entertainment (had all the critters crawled from beneath my mobile home). With that said, you can't tell me you wouldn't have been wondering what that racoon was going to do.

Wake...I know it's blurring the line and I'll stop commenting on it for fear of it becoming a full blown political discussion.

I thought it might be allowed because it was relevant to our favorite sport (for the large majority of us anyway), college football.

I'll stop now, though, to make sure I don't accidentally cross that line. Wouldn't be fair to JayG while he was on the road and unable to chime in.

My birthday is Feb 22 1987. So when I was signing a legal doc today, I dated the sig 2/2/1987... oops I'm so used to writing 2/22/1987 that all those 2's confused me.

Signing Latt would have been sweet, but stealing Grant from bama would be just as sweet.

wtc,
Ok, I am disappointed about Lattimore. Not just because he is an excellent football player, but because he seems like such an outstanding person, too. I think he is just the kind of person that Auburn wants.

So do you still feel good about Coleman? As much as I wanted Lattimore, I feel we need (with my very limited knowledge of football needs)Coleman more. What's your mom's gut say?

Here's my 2nd (and last) raccoon story. One time we had had a party on the pool deck at my parents' house and left a cooler with some ice in it out there. Later that night, someone was looking out the window and noticed a raccoon on the deck. It went over to the cooler, opened it up, and got a piece of ice out. It then took it over to the pool and washed it. Of course, it disappeared. The raccoon stared at his paws for a few seconds, then went back and got another piece of ice and washed it, with the same result. It repeated this at least five or six times, which was incredibly amusing to the semi-intoxicated humans watching through the window.

I am not sure why Lattimore would have gotten the impression he would be used less as a receiver at Auburn. Look at guys like Eric Smith or Mario Fannin. They pretty much to do it all. I had assumed Lattimore would be the h-back and Dyer would be the tailback.

11:43 AM
Blogger Seanzie said...

apparently Lattimore is comfortable running the draw and catching the slip screen. That's about all USCjr runs with the TB.

11:46 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

I can understand him caving to the pressure of his home state, but the comments I have seen from him basically saying he would be the wildcat QB don't make much sense.

Also, compare the talent on the South Carolina offensive line versus what we have at Auburn. Can anyone figure out which offensive line has the most talent?

Actually, I'd probably like "Lost" if I tried it, which I might do after the series is over (which will be easy, since my mother-in-law decided it would be a great idea to give us the first two seasons on DVD for Christmas). I just don't like getting involved in having to watch something every week to keep up (had that problem with "24" when it first came out, so just made myself stop watching it after the first season).

12:11 PM
Blogger michael said...

I will go against the grain here and say Latt made the right decision.

There will be less competition, so even if the offense runs less he should be in better shape as far as getting looks. The rented mule analogy doesn't really work because he is an incoming freshman trying to help build something at SC, not a rented JUCO junior a la Cam Newton or Rudi Johnson. And from that article that Jay G linked, it looks like he has made an entire community happy by staying. If I were in his shoes, I'd probably go to SC too.

I watched Lost regularly but in recent years it became clear to me the writers had no "answers" or cohesive explanation for the story or the characters; the plot turns were just randomly contrived to drag it out for as long as the ratings held out. So, I stopped watching two years ago.

Blogger Commish of Old Pimps said...

Michael: I think your points are valid depending on how you define the ultimate objective. If Lattimore's goal is to be the most successful college back possible, and thereby improve his NFL opportunities ($$$) and draft status (as reported), then Auburn and its offensive system has to be the best choice for him without question. If it's appeasing his SC peeps, being perceived as loyal to the State, having fewer bloggers write nasty things about you, and being regarded as a SC hero (perhaps even a tragic one as his career withers under Spurrier), he should sign with the Gamecocks.

A decision based upon the latter seems unfortunate and even immature, but perhaps it will turn out great for him. I hope so. Perhaps he'll parlay it into success that transcends football and be the next "great" SC Governor.

I tell you what listing our current/future stars sure does ease the pain of not getting Latt.

The only shows I watch a regular basis are:
How I Met Your Mother- Love it
Two and a Half Men- Getting old
Scrubs- A shell of what it once was
Southland when it starts back
Real World- Yes I know, I don't know why I watch it

Wake: SCe has 4-5 4* RBs on the roster, most of whom are Sophs or Freshmen. He may be the starter for the next three years but it's not that much different than Auburn; he's still got to beat others out.

Blogger Harrison said...

Wake- I agree on Scrubs. It used to be a great show. I can barely watch it now

1:38 PM
Blogger CHB said...

So is Lost 2 hrs tonight or is that 1st hour a recap?

1:42 PM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

Harrison, I still enjoy watching it, but its not scrubs.

It's a spin off that didn't change names thats all.

1:42 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Scrubs is still solid. Just not very good anymore, thought it's gotten better as the season's gone on.

CHB...Lost is two hours tonight. There will be an hour long recap followed by a two hour premiere.

Roy Finch? He only had an official visit to OU, according to Scout. Look like he visited GT in Nov (unofficially?).

jhag - you got any info on if he has ever visited the Loveliest Village?

I see Mr. Homer Tate got the news.
For a young man of substance I can see why he chose USCe and I hope it works out for him.
Auburn will move on with one of the best classes in recent history and with hope of repeating it next year.

1:50 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

interesting that SCe (Lattimore) and Clempson (Howard??) are both on AU's schedule in 2010 & 2011.

1:56 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

Has Auburn ever had a recruiting class this highly regarded, since they started keeping track of that kind of thing?

1:59 PM
Blogger Spongeworthy said...

Yep. I am ok on the latt decision. Would have been sweet gravey but we need db dt and ol more.

1:59 PM
Blogger Dadof3Girls said...

Not too worried about the Latt decision. There will be another "God's gift to football" next year. If we can show progress and use Dyer and others to make this offense really something, that next great thing will be knocking down our door next year.

I was ready to write scrubs off after the first couple of episodes this season, but I think it is a little better. The problem now is that the central character and her juvenile boyfriend add absolutely nothing to the show. But I like Cox's #1 student and it is good to see the mean girl get more screen time.

Anyway, Scrubs isn't as good as it was, but it is still worth watching.

2:07 PM
Blogger Norm said...

I've watched all or parts of each Scrubs episode this season. I can't recall a single time I laughed. It's completely forgettable now. I thought it was actually going off the air last year after the finale. In my opinion, it should have.

2:14 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

the only hospital shows I ever liked were Dr. Kildare and St. Elsewhere. It's likely my mom had a crush on Dr. Kildare and I didn't know any better than to watch it.

St. Elsewhere? How could you not like a show with Howie Mandel, William Daniels, Eric Laneuville, Ed Begley, Jr., Stephen Furst, Ed Flanders, etc.

I thoroughly dislike any other hospital-based show.

2:14 PM
Blogger Scott Coats said...

The new Scrubs is getting better every week. I agree, though, they need to change the focus to Denise & Drew. They're fun. The main girl is annoying and her boyfriend was funny for about two episodes...just really annoying now.

It is still worthy not just of a spot on the TiVo line up, but an actual live viewing once in a while.

2:15 PM
Blogger Scott Coats said...

THT, don't forget Denzel Washington.

THT - Alfre Woodard, Terrence Knox (left St. Elsewhere to do the Vietnam series "Tour of Duty"), weren't too shabby either. That's still my all-time favorite hospital show. Except for the series finale. That just pissed me right off.

2:21 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Thanks, Jet. I bet he visited with Finch.

2:22 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Don't remember Woodard, but do remember Knox.

I thought the finale was very clever, and a little funny. How else do you abruptly end a series? I suppose they could have had one of DL's missiles strike the hospital.

She definitely has white teeth, and seemingly more of them than the average human. I think it's because of the really big mouth, which probably comes in handy when hosting a cooking show. Still, there's something else about her...personality, that's it, personality.

Hey peeps. I am here at Silver Hills Memorial United Methodist Church in Spartanburg, S.C.

There are roughly 10 reporters already here, two TV trucks, one guy from the Christian radio station working hard (and unsuccessfully) to land a one-on-one with Lattimore.

Already.

The announcement will be delayed. Lattimore's mother is going to speak for a while before the actual decision is revealed around 5:30 p.m. CST.

If you're wondering why I'm still here even though it's evident Lattimore is going to USC, well, this is going to be fun for me. It'll be a circus.

2:50 PM
Blogger Norm said...

Circus? Will there be clowns and peanuts?

2:51 PM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

The church doesn't even open until 3 CST, but you know the HABOTN® already has gained entrance.

Really nice people here. They know what's coming and they're as ready as they can be.

2:52 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

Jay...You should live stream the announcement with your isight camera on your laptop....
