Stephen Davis plays a role in Lattimore's decision

Former Auburn tailback Stephen Davis, who grew up in Spartanburg, S.C., spent the past few days talking with Marcus Lattimore.

Davis also played a role in today's announcement. Immediately prior to Lattimore announcing a decision, Davis brought to him a cloth bag. Lattimore first pulled out an Auburn hat. After a momentary pause, Lattimore pulled a second hat, this one fashioned with a USC logo, to complete the gag.

Davis said he didn't advise Lattimore to choose a particular school, but provided some insights that resonated with the young tailback.

``My heart is at Auburn. I love Auburn," Davis said. ``The only thing that I regret about playing at Auburn is that a lot of people from here didn't get to see me play. I told him that."

  2. How many more spots do we have to fill?

  3. Did Mr. Davis turn down big bucks from the NFL since a lot of people would not get to go to his games?

    NO!

  5. Ron - I think we have 23 commits right now, including Coleman. So we've got room for 5 more from the likes of Lemonier & Jones and maybe a good surprise or two.

  6. Davis is shorter than I remember. I'm 5-9 and he's maybe one inch taller than me.

  7. All of Stephen's games from his freshman year were untelevised.

  8. yeah seems like the coaches put their eggs in the latt, lemonier, jones basket... let's hope we don't miss on the other ones

  9. Well anyway, congrats to Mark McLemore, I'm sure Spurrier will run him 15 times a game for 45 yards for the next 4 years.

  11. Yes...Welcome back Ron.

  12. People won't see him play at USCjr either, because Spurrier doesn't know how to use a RB.
    Good luck to him.

  18. Welcome back, Ron.
I hope we don't miss on Lemonier and Jones too. But, I don't have a good feeling. 2 days ago everything looked very very good. Now, I don't know. Not hearing good news today.

  19. solution: stop listening to the news before our whole class implodes ;-)

  20. D.Miller...

I'm constantly amazed at how much things change over the course of a couple of days when it gets near NSD.

  21. Well if you look at it like this... there have been very few kids this staff has actually pursued hard and not gotten. We have lost a few to bama which is expected but turned arounded and raided other states. If we fill the rest of the class with plan B guys i'll still be happy.

  22. Closing is all about momentum. Auburn had some started yesterday, but its been tough sledding since then. Slot of fake rumorsbeing stirred around today. Hard to decide what to believe and not believe.

  23. I too extend my welcome back to Ron Mexico.

I also extend best wishes to the Lattimore kid and all the others who do or do not choose AU.

  24. Ron I disagree with your 1st post about all our eggs in one basket. People are forgetting that we have the #3 class in the nation. This is the best class AU has had in my lifetime. Yeah I would have liked for him to come but our DL targets are more important. From what I am hearing everyone should feel really good about Jones and Lemonier. We should also expect a surprise or two tomorrow.

  25. Chizik said 30 new guys will be enrolled this year. This staff has something planned for tommorow Lemonier or not. And i don't expect it to be a long snapper.

  26. This has already been an exceptional class. If we don't add another player, it will be our best class since these on-line services went into business years ago.

Great job and WAR EAGLE, coaches!

  27. I'm happy with this class we have adressed all our needs with top talent, and for once that will qualify. Still think we were counting on Lemonier and latt
