Belated and second-hand scrimmage report

Hey everyone. As discussed earlier in the week, I missed Auburn's first official spring scrimmage today. Sorry about that. It happens.

So here's what I heard and read that piqued my interest:
  • Charles Goldberg reported that Cam Newton took more snaps than any other quarterback today. I consider that significant. He apparently connected on one touchdown and was responsible for a fumble.

  • Andy Bitter of War Eagle Extra says Philip Pierre-Louis took advantage of an opportunity to make plays ... only to see his day end with another knee injury. The severity of that injury remains unknown. Fellow wideout Travante Stallworth tweeted: "Prayn for my boy."

  • The O-A News reported that Auburn High graduate John Sullen filled in at first-team guard because Bart Eddins missed the scrimmage with a knee injury. Asked about Eddins' health on Friday, coach Gene Chizik said: ``There’s no problems there."

  • Multiple outlets reported that assistant coach Trooper Taylor was ecstatic about how the Tigers' wideouts performed on Saturday. He praised everyone's blocking effort and said there were no drops. Emory Blake caught a touchdown pass.

  1. Good report. Even second hand it works for me

  2. Jay, I see little praise from Roof on the defense. Is this an indication of troubles, or is it just Roof's style?

    ReplyDelete
  3. And one of the more interesting things I have seen is that the two interceptions were by Ikeem Means and Blake Poole, also know as who.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Roof generally doesn't say much either way.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Surprise JGT sighting!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Means is a walk-on who I think could be a solid contributer this year.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Thanks for the report, JGT. I hope you've had a wonderful Saturday and have a blessed Easter.

  8. I need everyone to be rooting against Puke tonight. Not only do I strongly dislike them I need WVU to win so that I can finish no worse than 2nd in my office pool. I stand to win a few hundred bucks.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Just saw Butler get introduced and it makes me sick that they have a starter who is from Homewood, Al. That should never happen. I can see a kid leaving the state for Puke, UNC or something like that but Butler.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I pulled for Puke when I was younger because I thought it was a NC school. Only in my older/wiser years did a I realize it's a d$@# yankee school. But can I pull for the state school of an unconstitutionally formed state?

    Probably so. Go WVU!

  11. i am watching the bama/auburn baseball game on bama's website(a friend has a subscription). Their pitcher just got ejected for hitting kevin patterson(who had hit two HRs today). Chris Stewart(bama's radio guy) is calling it a horrendous call, its making me laugh

  12. Today I got curious about people's dying words and decided to find some famous ones. I found one that is far better than all the rest.

Either that wallpaper goes, or I do.

  13. UA-T is crushing us in Game 2 of softball DH in Auburn this afternoon. Anyone hear the results of the first game today? I know "those people" won the game last night :-(

    ReplyDelete
  14. THT, they killed us in game 1 today. I was there, it wasn't pretty

    ReplyDelete
  15. thanks for letting me know. UGH!!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. yeah. last night was actually a well played game by us, just gave up a grand slam and never recovered on offense

    ReplyDelete
  17. baseball update

    ReplyDelete
  18. still 4-3, bottom 7, chris stewart still whining

    ReplyDelete
  19. 4-4, on a bases loaded walk, still bottom 7

    ReplyDelete
  20. Apparently, some of us aren't HATING as strongly as we should!

    I HATE UAT!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Sorry THT I lost focus for a bit. I was using all my hate on Puke.

    ReplyDelete
  22. at least one bit of good news today in the sports world...

    PengWINS 4 Thrashers 3

    ReplyDelete
  23. This is nasty. I hate losing to the bad guys. HATE HATE HATE.

And allergies. Add that to the hate list.

    ReplyDelete
  24. THT, you know who just scored that basket for Butler?

    BEASLEY!

    ReplyDelete
  25. still down 6-4 going into the bottom of the eighth

    ReplyDelete
  26. Baseball and/or Track updates, please.

    ReplyDelete
  27. How many of those runs are as a result of errors?

    ReplyDelete
  28. I usually watch all of March Madness. I've watched about 10 minutes this year. No need to mess that up by watching the Final 4.

Let's see if there are any good movies on tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  29. held them scoreless going into the 9th, got the top of our line up coming

    ReplyDelete
  30. Peter, only one run is the result of an error. However there was a base running mistake in the top 8th that may have cost us

    ReplyDelete
  31. Butler & West Virginia

    Mark it

    ReplyDelete
  32. I hope you are correct ehyou.

G, any clues on Barbee's staff?

    ReplyDelete
  33. BEASLEY!

Somehow Jim Nantz's voice just isn't satisfying. It's a shame Gus Johnson isn't calling this game.

    ReplyDelete
  34. 2 out single by morris followed up by a double by gamache, bama has walked KP

    ReplyDelete
  35. Have we decided the early offense was anomalous and we're as mediocre as we thought going into the season?

    ReplyDelete
  36. and a strikeout to end it, and LSU next weekend, we have to find some pitching and some new infielders

    ReplyDelete
  37. UGHHHHHHHHHHHH

YUCK YUCK YUCK Disgusting results on the diamonds today :-(

    ReplyDelete
  38. yeah. Hubbard blew that one for us, I don't understand why Hurst didn't come in, but oh well. We HAVE to pull it out tomorrow, we can NOT get swept by that school

    ReplyDelete
  39. Of course!!! How could I forget?!

Outlaw Josey Wales starts in 5 minutes on AMC

Hot diggity! I hope Mr Cincytiger is tuned in.

    Endeavor to persevere!!!

    ReplyDelete
  40. well been a pleasure to bring baseball updates, i'll do the same tomorrow with better results(hopefully). Everyone have a great Easter!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Lord of the Rings on TBS, for those of us who celebrate "Eye of Sauron Day"

(That's what TBS has been using on their commercials for it, really cheesy, not that funny.)

    ReplyDelete
  42. I hate Bammers and Red-Legs

    ReplyDelete
  43. eh you - I was thinking about keeping a running tally on how many of those evil redlegs good ol' Josey rids the world of tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  44. THT...
That would make a great drinking game. A shot for every dead red-leg.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I doubt anyone would be able to make it past the river crossing.

    ReplyDelete
  46. There's a good reason I always pull for Missouri when they play those Jayhawkers.

    ReplyDelete
  47. wow, there's no way to keep count. He killed a bazillion in that early scene where he rode into the camp where the good guys were lied to by the yankee scum (some things don't change)

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm guessing that this is the first HABOTN post from an iPad...

    ReplyDelete
  49. FSJ, my husband and daughter love their iPads. Judging from their earlier comments, I will get my daughter's iPad when the 3g iPads are released at the end of the month.

    Anybody heard anything on PPL?

    ReplyDelete
  50. day to day, Kathy.

(I heard that from me earlier; no official word other than he was on crutches after practice)

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sorry, but I can't bring myself to own something called an iPad. I won't buy an iDuche or iTampon either.

    ReplyDelete
  52. "We thought about it for a long time, 'Endeavor to persevere.' And when we had thought about it long enough, we declared war on the Union."

    ReplyDelete
  53. Another Alabamian ... Ronald Nored of Homewood ... makes the two free throws to put Butler in position to win.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Jet- I see where Barbee is about to hire his staff.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Played with the IPad today. It's ok. My wife wants one, but ID rather have a Mac book pro before that. The IPad just seems like a glorified ITouch that doesn't travel as well. If the Memory was better it would be intriguing, but $699 for just 64 gigs and Wi-Fi seems a little too much to me. Reading books with it seems like the best feature to me.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I understand Eddie. Over the past few months I went back and forth on either a Macbook Air or a tablet of some kind for portability. When the iPad was announced, my decision was a little easier. I'll still use my Macbook Pro for heavy computing but for tasks such a web browsing I'll probably use this more

    ReplyDelete
  57. One other thing... As much as I hate to say it, PF is right in that the iPad needs multitasking... Not sure what RSJ's issue is with that...

    ReplyDelete
  58. I'd bet it was developed a couple of years ago when he was out of the office for a few months. He's probably already fixed it, but realized that all you suckas would upgrade if he just sent out the one his peons made without him, then release the one he retooled a year later.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Jet, he is bringing two assistants from UTEP. Look for an announcement on one of them Monday and the other possibly mid week.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Milt Wagner and Tony Madlock.

this is coming from the Louisville Courier-Journal.

    ReplyDelete
  61. specifically, Rick Bozich of Louisville Courier, who doesn't list a source.

I only see mention of Milt Wagner.

    ReplyDelete
  62. PF,
You bought the exact TV Tyler is trying to convince us to buy. Anxious to hear how you like it.

    ReplyDelete
  63. My 8 yr old desktop computer is working just fine.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Duke-Butler in the title game on Monday it looks like.

Everybody (including me) will be pulling for little 'ol Butler against might Duke, but this has to be one of the more blue collar Duke Final Four teams ever.

    ReplyDelete
  65. If I didn't dislike Duke on principle, I would really like this team....but I do, so I don't.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Bill McKinney, the actor who played Terrill (the demonic leader of the Red-Legs, was born in The Noog and also lived in Georgia for a while (where a gang beat him up for being a Volunteer).

    per the biography on imdb.com

I put him in the same class as a certain LB coach.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Cincytiger - tell Mr Cincy that OJW is starting again RIGHT NOW on AMC!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Thanks, THT, he had already found it!

    ReplyDelete
  69. oh no! Michael doesn't like it when I continue to speak parenthetically.)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Cincy,

So far, so good. Been flipping between the basketball game and Lord of the Rings, and both have looked great.

    ReplyDelete
  71. THT,
Mr. Cincy says "I reckon so"

    ReplyDelete
  72. Endeavor to persevere.

    ReplyDelete
  73. You! Shall! Not! Pass!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Well, our trip to Huntsville in search of an apartment was very successful. Tyler put down a deposit on an apartment that they will return if for some reason he doesn't get the job. Awesome apartment and there were some Auburn grads moving in right next door. I took it as a sign :)

    ReplyDelete
  75. Harry Adams didn't run as well this weekend, but his teammate Marcus Rowland now has the fastest time in the world for 2010 in the 100 meter (10.07), a day after UF's RB Jeff Demps gained that distinction... The second place runner didn't cross until 10.36.

Rowland was among 7 Tigers who won individual events. Full recap here for the two of you who care.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I just think it is coincidental with all the discussions we have had on here about tvs that PF buys the exact brand, size, resolution and type that Tyler told me just 4 hours ago was what I needed.

PF, where did you get yours? Tyler got one for a couple in Auburn for whom he is installing a whole entertainment system with surround sound, etc. He got it at Best Buy for a little under $2000, but he says I might can do better in a couple of months.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Excellent choice in what, THT? I make so many of them I can't keep up with what anyone's complimenting me on. :-P

    ReplyDelete
  78. almost 3 tenths is a huge number

    ReplyDelete
  79. Thanks ehyou. I needed that.

    ReplyDelete
  80. PF -Excellent choice in TV.
Terrible choice in your 10:14 post topic.

I was too busy watching Outlaw Josey Wales. I hope Mr. Beasley will forgive me.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Tyler keeps telling me I DO NOT want to buy a Vizio, but for $1000 less I'm having a hard time accepting that.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Don't pi-s down my back and tell me it's raining...

    ReplyDelete
  83. Vizio has worked great for me. Eddie went with it as well and he has no complaints.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Cincy gettin' salty with the language. And the night before Easter no less.

**Sarcasm alert for the above written.

    ReplyDelete
  85. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Have two people already clicked on PF's track update link? If not, I'd like to.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I looked at the comparable Vizio at Costco, and it was $2000. I almost got it. The reviews are pretty stellar on it.

    ReplyDelete
  88. PF,
The one Tyler bought for the couple was only a 120 Hz. What is the difference is the 120 and the 240? I mean what is it a measurement of?

    ReplyDelete
  89. I'm thinking for the $1000 difference the Vizio would be fine. It is really just for watching football a few times a year at the condo. Tyler is kind of a snob where tvs are concerned.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Refresh rate. No I cannot see the difference, but I figured that I would be able to in action movies and sports enough to make it worth it.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I think you pretty much need a PhD to buy a TV these days.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Cincy, they had the 46" version of the 120hz Samsung on sale at Best Buy for $1100 today. I think that is a much better TV than the 120hz Vizio at any size.

Vizio really stepped up their game when they released the XVT line this year, which the 240hz tvs fall into. It's a much better product. The old ones are decent for the price, but I think they are competitive in quality now.

    ReplyDelete
  95. My 52 inch Vizio does just fine in the Hangar men's grill.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I'm glad I got to break in the new tv on a a such a visually appealing movie, but this LotR thing was terrible. It made no sense, and I hated it.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Oh, PF, you just broke my heart. Lord of the Rings is awesome!!!

    ReplyDelete
  98. To each his own, PF. To each his own.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Which one was it, PF? Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers or Return of the King?

    ReplyDelete
  100. It looked nice, and the fight scenes were cool, if that helps.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Wait PF. Meaning you've never seen LotR before tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  102. Two Towers was tonight, Cincy.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Maybe you should try reading it instead. One of my favorite books.

It's fantasy, but very thematic at the same time. Can work as allegory as well.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I saw most of the first one at the theatre before I fell asleep. I'm pretty sure this was the second one.

    ReplyDelete
  105. If you watched the The Two Towers (the second installment) without watching the first (Fellowship of the Ring), then of course it didn't make much sense.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Nevermind. Question answered I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I don't like science fiction, I hate fight or battle scenes in movies, but I LOVED the Ring Trilogy. And E-Bro is right, the books are amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  108. It's a really long story, but one of my all time favorites. The way the movies were done was almost a perfect storm. Great acting, great story, great camera work, great directing, great use of technology.

Speaking of, anyone know that the way they shot Gollum was through a technology created by an Auburn engineering professor? He has an Academy Award for it.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Best part of Outlaw JW coming up.

    ReplyDelete
  110. can't go to sleep with OJW on, even though I just watched it.

Cincy - Endeavor to persevere is coming up soon :-)

    ReplyDelete
  111. matter of opinion. The best part(s) is every time one of those Red-Legs gets it.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Didn't know that Wells. That's awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I love Lone Watie - he is one of my favorite characters

    ReplyDelete
  114. and of course, he was Canadian, not Cherokee

    ReplyDelete
  115. why do smoke detector batteries only become weak and start chirping at night? Has anyone ever heard one of those things start chirping in broad daylight? I haven't.

    Now, which one is it?

    ReplyDelete
  116. Josey Wales ... one of the greats.

Lord of the Rings ... geek stuff

J-Lo on SNL ... !ay chihuahua!

    ReplyDelete
  117. it was the one in my office upstairs. As soon as I touched it the whole house system went off, waking MrsTHT. She's already back asleep, thank goodness.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I think you're confusing "geek" with "great", Jet.

I'm absolutely a dork, but given that all three of the LOTR films are at amongst the highest grossing films off all time, I don't think it was just a niche audience singularly enthused about it. Obviously had broad appeal.

Again...I'm a total dork, but I don't think my appreciation of Tolkien's work has much to do with that.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some Stormtrooper boots to polish and a Star Trek holiday planner calendar to attend to.

    ReplyDelete
  119. long dorky post = threadkiller ;-)

"Glad you stopped me when you did, I might have killed her", says Lone Watie, lying flat on his back with a knife headed for his heart.

    ReplyDelete
  120. E-Bro...killing threads since 1982.

    ReplyDelete
  121. GREAT MORNING, Hotties, today and everyday!!!

    ReplyDelete
  122. Happy Easter Everyone!!!

Heading to church soon, see y'all later.

    ReplyDelete
  123. He is risen! He is risen indeed!

    Happy Easter, everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  124. I hate Puke and walmartians (FSJ excluded).

Dear God please forgive me. Off to church to ask forgiveness for all of my hate.

    ReplyDelete
  125. For the purposes of correction, E-Bro will now be known as E-Dork.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Oh and good morning all..Happy Easter. My little FAUWG was so excited to see the Easter Bunny had eaten some of the carrots she left and his little footprints coming through the foyer.

    ReplyDelete
  127. MrsTHT had to go to work today. But she still cooked me a huge breakfast earlier this morning.

I think I'm spoiled... and I think I'll keep her for at least another 28+ years.

    ReplyDelete
  128. its that special day of the year. time to gorge on reese's peanut butter eggs. i should be up from the diabetic coma by tomorrow afternoon. happy easter all.

    ReplyDelete
  129. hide an easter egg of hate for your least favorite bammer today!

    ReplyDelete
  130. Happy Easter everyone! He is Risen! He died so we could live!

Cincy, is your son moving to beautiful Madison? We bought the Samsung before the championship game (gag, gag). My husband is also a TV snob. I am still amazed at the picture quality when we watch sports or a movie.

Although not popular with the Hotties, my family love their iPads. We are very partial with Apple and own a lot of their products. I watched the Tech Guy yesterday, and Leo was giddy over the iPad.

The baseball team is losing it quickly. Why so many errors? I hope they can avoid the sweep today.

I hope the weather is this nice for the A-day game.

    ReplyDelete
  131. happy easter mornin' hotties.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Anonymous10:14 AM

He is Risen Indeed! Went to the sunrise service and then went back to bed.

LOtR ....really wanted to geek out and like it. Loved the premise of the tale. Tried the books and the movie ...couldn't make it through any of them.

    OJW ..getcha sum!

    ReplyDelete
  138. ESPN360.com is now ESPN3.com

    ReplyDelete
  139. Steve,

Is that the same article Jay G linked in his Lutz post?

    ReplyDelete
  140. yes, PF. it is the very same, originally posted by Dale on HABOTN on about the 30th, I believe. Great story.

    How's the new TV?

LGG Byron and I just finished watching West Ham escape with a 2-2 draw at Everton. Now it's hockey time, but I really don't like the Red Wings or the Flyers, so I may not watch.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Like the new TV a lot. Still haven't fallen in love with it. It's not perfect, but nothing is, and it didn't cost me a billion dollars. Hockey in HD should help me on the road to loving it if it looks good. I'll flip over there in a minute and check it out.

    ReplyDelete
  142. It certainly looks like the same article, PF.

    ReplyDelete
  143. HD hockey is much easier on the eyes. What's not to love? It's a fantastic sport.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Well, neither the Red Wings or Flyers are to love.

    ReplyDelete
  145. that's a very good point in regards to the game on today.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Andy Roddick's playing Tomas Berdych in the Sony Ericsson Final in Miami, one of the bigger non-slam events on the tennis calendar. They're on serve midway through the first set.

Flip over to CBS if you're interested.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I've never gotten into hockey...I don't even know all the rules.

Kathy... You are not alone. I love my iPad too!

Chew on that for a moment. Your family has something in common with a bammer. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  148. FSJ, my husband is a bammer!

    ReplyDelete
  149. I think the Bammer is gone.

It's safe to come out now.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Kathy,
Tyler has reserved an apartment at Arch Street Apartment Homes. They are pretty wonderful! If your daughter decides to look there, tell them Tyler referred her. They can split the $500 referral fee!

    ReplyDelete
  151. I forgot about that Kathy....

    Bammers are fine people.

    ReplyDelete
  152. As info.... It only took a developer less than a day to jailbreak the iPad which means multitasking will be an option soon if you are so inclined.

    ReplyDelete
  153. FSJ, this means I can install windows on it now?

    ReplyDelete
  154. Why would anyone want to do that? :-)

    ReplyDelete
  155. game 3 is tuscaloosa underway, auburn up 2-0 after 2 and a half. Both runs were solo homers by Justin Bryant and Creed Simpson respectively

    ReplyDelete
  156. Cincy,
Arch Street Apartments are a couple of blocks from my husband's dental lab on Old Madison Pike and are very nice. My daughter wants to be closer to campus. Hope your son gets his official offer soon.

    ReplyDelete
  157. after 4, Auburn up 3-0, run 3 came on a sac fly. Good small ball by the tigers in the 4th. Caldwell singled, stole second, advanced to third on a single then was brought home with the sac fly. Dayton settling in after allowing some hits

    ReplyDelete
  158. Jailbreak is a word that cracks me up. Such a hipster term for the uber nerdy process of gaining root access.

    ReplyDelete
  159. after 4 and a half, auburn 5-0. Bama has pulled their starter and put in a freshman pitcher

    ReplyDelete
  160. Go Tigers. They need to keep adding runs becuse in college ball a team can score a bunch in one inning.

    ReplyDelete
  161. for those of you wondering, our baseball tigers DO in fact have defensive players. Creed Simpson made a great play at the wall in the 6th and Fletcher just pulled one back into the park in the 7th. Dayton got out of a jam in the 7th after allowing a run. He's thrown 101 pitches thus far so I'm thinking his day is done. After 7, its 6-1 AU

    ReplyDelete
  162. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  163. and we just had dayton tossed out for hitting a batter. Kind of ridiculous considering he was over 100 pitches. Chris Stewart is saying basically Dayton did it on purpose cause he won't have to miss a start even though he's suspended 4 games. This does mean Powlowski is suspended for tuesday's game against Georgia State.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Wondered if you would catch that :)

    ReplyDelete
  165. I kinda hope it was on purpose, though. Bammers deserve to be punished for their transgressions.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Yeah, so anyway. Anyone got any Blu-Ray recommendations?

    ReplyDelete
  167. PF, we use our PS3 for blu ray.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Sorry, Disks. Player is on it's way.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Tyler says 300, Avatar when it comes out later this month, LOTR which you don't like, Ironman, Taken, 24 if you like the show (only season 7 in blu ray). He said anything before 2005 isn't really much better in blu ray than regular dvd.

  170. Fearless, the idea was that Paws called the hit the batter play? Thus resulting in him being suspended from the bench in our next game? And Dayton is suspended for 4 games?

  171. Its final, the good guys pulled one out of that series. Bats looked good, but a 0 in the errors column looks even better to me. Dayton pitched wonderful and moves to 3-0 in SEC play. Georgia State and South Alabama midweek with LSU coming to town this weekend

  172. wells,
Apparently the rule is if the umpire feels you hit the batter on purpose, pitcher is automatically ejected and suspended for 4 games. Coach is also ejected and suspended for next game. Best as I understand it anyway.

  173. LSU is going to be tough, but not unbeatable. They only beat UGA by one run Friday, and lost to them yesterday 12-6. If UGA can compete, so can Auburn. Then again, Auburn should be 7-2 in SEC play instead of 5-4, but they've made some fatal mistakes, so who knows what team will show up for any given game.

  174. cincy is correct, don't understand the rule myself, bama's coach had to sit out today for his pitcher being ejected yesterday. Their pitcher's four-game suspension is a lot bigger deal than ours since he's a reliever. Grant isn't scheduled to pitch til next sunday and there's 4 games between now and then.

  176. Interesting to see LSU losing yesterday by a wide margin at home yesterday. They obsess over winning in Alex Box.

  177. Wells, they had some major pitching issues this weekend. They used 12 pitchers (5 Friday, and 4 each on Saturday and Sunday...Rittner appeared twice) in the series.
