- On the draft: ``It was very emotional. When things don't go the way you expect them to go, you get nervous. I started to get nervous. Emotions were running."
- On how much he talked with the Texans: ``A little. Not too much. I thought the Patriots were going to take me."
- On tonight's conversation with the Texans: ``I didn't get to talk to them too long. We were going nuts. It was crazy."
- So what about the Patriots?: ``They flew me in for a private workout. I knew they liked me. It's the NFL, it's a business. It's unpredictable."
- Who else flew you in?: ``Vikings. San Diego. Browns. There were quite a few."
- So you were nervous? Seriously?: ``I really thought I was going to be picked more in the beginning or the middle" of the second round."
- So what's your approach now?: ``I'm going to go in and work hard and definitely fight for a spot. It's a franhicse that's on the rise. I hope to take them to the next level."
- Are you still bitter about people disrespecting you?: ``There were some guys who went before me that shouldn't have. I'm going to get over it. I'll get to work next week."

Hey everyone. Here's what the Texans' new tailback had to say moments ago.

ReplyDeleteThanks JGT for words from Ben. I was surprised at the RBs that went before him.

``There were some guys who went before me that shouldn't have. I'm going to get over it. I'll get to work next week."
ReplyDeleteGood to see some things haven't changed.
At least you are consistent "best back in the ______."
Oh, by the way, congratulations for being drafted. It is an accomplishment.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your work against the first team defense. You may know a couple of those fellas.
Seriously, have fun and save your $$$ Ben. See you at an A Day in about 10 years.

ReplyDeleteOver
good night at the ball park, luckie looked good, the bats were on, should be a good weekend
ReplyDeleteGhiardelli brownie, Blue Bell vanilla, a little Hershey's drizzle.
ReplyDeleteMagnum Force on the tube.
Not a bad way to spend a Friday.
Jet-cranked up the mac daddy grill tonight. had the entire family over tonight. Grilled chicken (special rub and mop) grilled corn on the cob. grilled peppers and onions.
ReplyDeleteSalad, Texas toast, ice cream pie for desert.
One tried rule of the NFL: You can always get a running back.
ReplyDeleteThat's why Ben went where he did. He could have a fine career, but it's only for a time because running backs take the abuse. Better to buy 'em later and cheaper.
And that's why I'm disappointed that San Diego traded up to get Ryan Matthews. It overpaid for an RB in the mid-first, when you could get one later.
Cooked a load of burgers tonight for Mrs. Jet, ElTurbo, his GF, Stewardess and Appendage. Nice time. Now, the house is quiet. Good times.
ReplyDeleteWhy wait until the second round for Ben when you can get Jahvid Best in the first round...right, Sensi?
ReplyDeleteWell the Lions must have seen something there. Who knows? It's still the Lions.
ReplyDeleteMeds are kicking in and I'm down for them count. Peace out, gang.
Best is not better than Tate all around. Plus the dude has already had two concussions. One of them was pretty serious. Then you have the guy from Fresno St. Yeah 1800 yrds is pretty darn good, but look who he got them against.
ReplyDeleteI need some help from the google chrome experts. I keep getting security pop ups saying "an application connection to internet has changed since the last time it was run". It's something to do with chrome and sending outbound info. How do I stop this.
ReplyDeleteLinemen are the players that are the really must haves these days, particularly a good defensive end.
ReplyDeleteI think Ben Tate will have a successful career in the NFL. I don't expect him to be the best back in the NFL, but I expect him to be one of the least likely to be a bust. He takes a beating and keeps coming.
Interesting that he thought he would go to the Patriots. I was thinking it would be them or the Steelers. The Patriots are known for seeing a good value, that was my reasoning for them to take Ben. Oh well, Texans are a good franchise. Thanks for the info as usual Jay G.
ReplyDeleteI am personally glad he didn't end up with the Pats. I could have never brought myself to cheer for him as long as he was there.
ReplyDeletePF - Not at all. Plus those "shipping costs" are expensive.
ReplyDeletewtc - thanks for the baseball news.
I like tradition... Toomer's Corner, Burn the Bulldogs, DL at top of thread.
UAT QB Muckleroy has gotten some attention for his tweets on the draft.
ReplyDeleteOn Everyday Should Be Saturday.com, Ole Nutt defensive end Kentrell Lockett's offerings are featured, including this one:
"Man, Michael Irvin could snort a Butterfinger through his cocaine abused nostril."
PF- I came home and saw my family, watched my tennis team lose, and ate at my favorite restaurant; i'm ready to leave.
ReplyDelete2.0,
ReplyDeleteHa. Don't forget "slept in own bed."

ReplyDeleteIf you don't fight back tears reading this, well, you're better than I am.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.texasmonthly.com/2009-05-01/feature2.php
Jet, surely inspirational. My husband just walked in and wanted to know what I was reading (as tears are streaming down my face). We are truly blessed.
ReplyDeleteWooohooo I'm better than Jet!! Either that or I copied the web address wrong. :(
ReplyDeleteOk got the article now. Guess Im not better than Jet after all.
ReplyDeleteAny Huntsville area Hotties that can give me an update on what the weather expectations are today, i would greatly appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteFrom what I can read online it looks like it will be horrible.
Very touching article, Jet. Kathy is right, we are very blessed.
ReplyDeleteHere is a great article on Trooper Taylor.
Trooper Taylor
WERK, they have us on the border of the high risk today. We had some storms this morning. Quiet right now. Expecting another round this afternoon. All outdoor activities (Panoply) canceled today.
ReplyDeleteJet, thank you so much for that story. I know none of you can understand my situation and I am by no means in any way close to the situation of John McClamrock, but I do find it inspiring and relavent. Thank you so much. This story really inspires me.
ReplyDeleteMcFadden to Oakland in the 5th round
ReplyDeleteWalt McFadden drafted by the Raiders in the 5th round
ReplyDeleteGlad he was drafted, too bad its with the Raiders. He can be company for McClain's misery.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kathy,
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty brutal right now here in Chattanooga...just trying to decide if it's worth the risk to drive down there this afternoon.
WERK, I wouldn't be driving anywhere this afternoon.
ReplyDeleteA buddy who was watching the draft when Tate got drafted said one of the commentators said there were two negatives with him. First he isn't very shifty. We already know that. The second was character issues. I have never heard of a character problem with Tate.
ReplyDeleteDidn't realize Quentin Groves had been traded to the Raiders also.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard that either CH=B. I thought his attitude was a plus.
ReplyDeleteJ. Campbell to the Raiders?
ReplyDeleteOakland Tribune quoting a NFL network report saying a Jason Campbell to the Raidahs deal is close.
ReplyDeleteIt's official ... at least the Washington Post says so ... 4th round pick in 2012 for Campbell.
ReplyDeleteRaiders= SEC west
ReplyDeleteJ. Cam
D. McFadden
R. McClain
W. McFadden
J. Russell?
Oakland... where NFL careers go to die.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, Q. Groves...also a Raider. Unless Al Davis does first, you're right Michael.
ReplyDeleteThe Skins problem is the O-line, not Campbell. McNabb won't do them any good when he's running for his life.
ReplyDeleteNobody from Auburn should be forced to go to Oakland and work for that franchise. They are more disfunctional than the Redskins.
ReplyDeleteJet - in the past 30 years, I've never thought I was better than you. Reading that article, I still don't.
ReplyDeleteMcNabb will take more chances than Campbell, I think he'll make more plays for the Skins.
ReplyDeleteI love Jason, but he thinks too much rather than reacting and trying to make a play.
Hot Wife spent the night in an ATL hotel last night with one of our friends for their daughter's birthday so it was just F4*, the dog and I last night. We had fun. Played outside until dark only coming in because we were hungry. Stayed up late then he got in bed with me when the first round of storms came through this morning. Went to our favorite breakfast place then to the mall trying to find him an AU helmet he can wear. No luck there. Knowing this boy, it needs to be a legitimate helmet offering some protection because I have no doubt he'd put it to the test. I have one more place I'm going to check this afternoon and if I can't find one there, I'll go the route SCOTTIEB suggested and get a youth helmet and add some AU decals. Hot Wife and I are seeing Hank Jr. tonight courtesy of the man himself. No telling where we're sitting so it'll be a surprise to find just how courteous he is. All in all, a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations and good luck to Ben and all the other guys as they embark on their new careers.
Storms popping up all around me. Uh oh......
ReplyDeleteThat sucks Kathy. We are supposed to be going down to see the Allman Brothers in Huntsville, but not sure with the weather.
ReplyDeleteWERK, maybe it will get through this area in time for you to drive down.
ReplyDeleteVery surprised Antonio hasn't been drafted yet. Into 7th round, hope he gets drafted.
ReplyDeleteI actually thought Coleman would go ahead of McFadden. I am sure Coleman will hook up with some team.
ReplyDeleteSteve,
ReplyDeleteI think he will, too, but I wish he could have the experience of being drafted.
Whoa ..Jonathon Crompton got drafted.
ReplyDeleteJust read that we are the clear leader to sign Luke Cothron and he could sign very soon. With him, Langford and possibly another signee/transfer I think we will be contenders in the west. Things are looking really good right now for Auburn sports.
ReplyDeleteIs baseball home or away?
Ok if Crompton gets drafted and not Coleman something is wrong.
ReplyDeleteColeman is such a tweener for the pro game. Coleman has heart and a motor and should make a pro roster one way or another.
ReplyDeleteHoopie said it. Coleman isn't really a DE or a LB, so it makes it hard for people to take a chance with him. He seems to be a leader and he was a hard worker on the field, so he'll get a shot.
ReplyDeleteI just hate Campbell to the Raiders.
ReplyDeleteBaseball is home, but the game was suspended in the first inning, KY had bases loaded and one out. It will resume tomorrow and they will play double header.
ReplyDeleteI'm not thrilled about J. Cam going to the Raiders, because they're the Raihdahs, but after his start at the Redskins he was never going to be allowed to succeed. At least in Oakland he has D. Mac to take the pressure off on offense. I'm pretty sure he'll be an upgrade from Russell so the fans will probably cut him some slack. It might work out for him.
ReplyDeleteRaider fans cutting someone some slack?
ReplyDeleteMaybe cutting someone's throat, but not slack.
ReplyDelete30 minutes til the puck drops!
ReplyDeleteHow does the SEC sack leader not get drafted
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately he's too small to be a DE and not quick enough to be a LB in the minds of most scouts.
ReplyDeleteSize isn't everything. If you can plan then you can play. The SEC is the closest thing to the NFL. So one would think he can be somewhat productive in the NFL.
ReplyDeleteI think I am going to have to get a job. Just bought $3870 worth of Auburn football tickets. Gasp!!
ReplyDeleteAnd the women beat Ole Miss in softball 3-2. 2nd game of double header coming up.
Who thinks the Raiders part ways with JRuss in the coming weeks? I mean, who pays $9 to a backup QB
ReplyDelete?
Maybe this will be a good move for Campbell. It can't be any worse than Washington.
Another year, another offense.
after an afternoon to let it sink in i'm happy for Jason Campbell. sux to be shipped out to LA but a fresh start sure can't hurt. the NFL analysts have been talking about how good the Raiders' draft was. crazy, know. good luck JC!
ReplyDeleteyeah, i thought AC would get drafted too. oh, well. someone will give him a chance.
ReplyDeleteGood for AC.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the Bills will be impressed.
ReplyDeleteKathy,
ReplyDeleteDid the BIlls sign Antonio?
Cincy, yes, free agent contract
ReplyDeleteWell, good for him. I hope he makes a lot of teams sorry they didn't draft him!
ReplyDeleteAre they still playing Hockey? I thought that was a winter game.
ReplyDeletedigger - the Penguins won't be playing it much longer.
ReplyDeleteScottie - LA?
ReplyDeleteBEASLEY!!!
ReplyDeleteHELLOOOOO KENNESAW, GA!!!
ReplyDeleteHello Weaverville, NC.

Tornado affected a lot of families in Yazoo City today. Let's keep them in our prayers and thank goodness for the health and safety of our own.
ReplyDeleteyes, Jason Campbell was traded to teh Los Angeles/Oakland/Al Davis Radiers.
ReplyDeleteso, AC to the Bills? cool. thanks.
i just saw where Walt McFadden was picked by the Raiders and that Quentin Groves was traded from Jacksonville to the Raiders on thursday. craziness....where the heck was i thursday? guess we've got 3 boys on the Radiers now. get your silver & black on ladies & gents!
ReplyDeleteok, nite. i'm all tuckered out.
can't go to bed yet, Scottie B.
ReplyDeleteE-Bros Avs are in the 2nd period
not to mention OJW starting RIGHT NOW on AMC!!!
Congrats to A.C. He'll make some teams regret not drafing him.
ReplyDeletenobody wants to get drunk and get loud
ReplyDeleteall my rowdy friends have settled down
Not looking good for my Avs.
ReplyDeleteCurtains for the Avs. The Preds are probably gonna follow suit. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteShooting tonight at the Lexington Hotel.... AU popo's are investigating
ReplyDeleteehyou - I heard the very same thing tonight.
ReplyDeleteI've met him a couple of times, seen him in concert at least 10 times. I saw him tonight and I'd go see him again tomorrow. Hank Jr. is a heck of a musician and performer. We won't talk about the habit, just the music and the man.
I saw him when I was at Auburn. I would like to see him again, maybe be a little bit more sober this time.
ReplyDeleteFinally, Pens win!! Now why did you not do this at home?
ReplyDeleteThey pulled it out...
Winter's over. Hockey should be too. Same for basketball. It's Baseball season.
