Practice report, 4/16

Hey everyone. Practice has ended. Here's what we have learned:

  • Coach Gene Chizik revealed specific details regarding how A-Day will work. The first half will involve a more traditional A-Day scrimmage where two theoretically equal teams will go at it. The second half will feature all offensive players against all defensive players, which is more like a traditional practice scrimmage.

  • Chizik said no firm decisions regarding The Quarterback Race® will be determined until after Monday's practice. Translation: We know, but we ain't snitchin'.

  • Chizik praised DE Mike Goggans (left), who ostensibly is battling Nosa Eguae for the starting job. I think Goggans has a firm hold on the spot. Chizik said he is "proud" of the way Goggans has performed this spring.

  • Goggans seemed pretty satisfied with the way he's practiced.

  • Assistant coach Phillip Lolley said T'Sharvan Bell has played well this spring and it's obvious Bell is enjoying life at cornerback.

  • Lolley said Demond Washington's short stint at safety, which has ended, made him a better player. The Tallassee native, Lolley said, thinks and anticipates on a more global level now.

  • Chizik said "most" players will participate in A-Day.

  • C Ryan Pugh said A-Day is the same as a regular scrimmage ... aside from all the fans.

  • Pugh said the offense, even now, is required to slow things down during scrimmages as a courtesy to the defense. The pace is too unnatural and unnerving.

  • DT Mike Blanc (left) didn't refute this. He said Auburn's offense "is something we don't see" and isn't worried about how they have to adjust.

  • Blanc said the offense's pace is even more rigorous now than it was a year ago.

  5. look like ehyou killed the thread on the first post. nice work!

    ReplyDelete
  6. No kidding. I could've written a dissertation.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Substance live from Niffer's

    ReplyDelete
  8. I expect there's lots of folks on the road this afternoon.

    ReplyDelete
  9. So does our offense always slow down for our defense like last season?

    ReplyDelete
  10. First Jet with the Mamma G's and now Seanzie with the Niffer's, I am really craving some Auburn food now.

    ReplyDelete
  11. WTC regaling us with tales.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Corn nuggets ordered and on the way.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Nuggets have arrived.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Live blogging the Niffer's experience. I like.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Nuggets are gone. Rancher Burger gas arrived.

    ReplyDelete
  16. ranch burger gas = TMI

    ReplyDelete
  17. Dang mobile typing. Let's try again. Rancher Burger has arrived.

    ReplyDelete
  18. It is very interesting that we aren't seeing the typical thing of the defense being ahead of the offense in the spring. It sounds like Malzahn has the offense cranked up and read to go.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I had chicken nuggets, too--courtesy of the Chik-fil-A on Ann Street. Also, a yogurt parfait. Quite tasty, actually the yogurt parfait more than the nuggets.

Seen there: young air force officers partaking of peach milkshakes with their chicken sandwiches.

That place really does some business at lunch time.

    ReplyDelete
  20. This offense is going to be extraterrestrial with Newton (speed), McCaleb and Fanin (more speed), and an experienced offensive line (beef).

Sure, I was thinking the same thing with Franklin/Kodi, but this is different (damn you!!).

    ReplyDelete
  21. What is this Facebook?

"Just brushed my teeth. Now taking a dump."

    ReplyDelete
  22. Is it possible that the offense is reaching the ludicrous speed that was talked about last year? Is there any chance that they will show that kind of speed tomorrow?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Momma's nachos with jalapenos were splendid.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Man, you gotta stop. I'm going nuts thinking about Mama G's.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Breakfast: Sutton's Drug Store scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, grits, chocolate milk

Lunch: Sutton's Drug Store 1/3 lb bacon cheeseburger with fries and fountain cherry coke.

Dessert: MrsTHT's homemade chocolate chip cookies.

Oh yeah, I got y'all beat!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Practice Coverer Tate - THANK YOU!!! for the report! I'm getting too excited about AU football. I need to start poor mouthing so we'll do great instead of dashing my high expectations.

There's just no way we can win that game tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  27. No fountain cherry diet coke?

    ReplyDelete
  28. ehyou - maybe I can help. A basic salad from the salad bar along with a grilled salmon entree from our in-house cafeteria was passable.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Whew, that sounds average at best norm, thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think we see the speed tomorrow. Last season I spent a lot of time laughing at Malzahn on the sideline yelling run it, run it, run it... You got to love the guy.

I am very pleased with how the offense seems to be coming together, particularly after losing our starting tailback and quarterback.

Fannin is going to be very interesting because many thought he would be a star until the fumbles.

Any chance that Chizik has Eric Smith and Donte Aycock locked in some closet during practice? I keep hoping to here something about them.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Lyrics run through my head every time I see your pic.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anyone who has an array of hilighters as part of their ensemble it DA MAN!

    ReplyDelete
  33. You should never argue with a crazy mind...

    ReplyDelete
  34. ehyou - it was a fountain diet coke until they put that sugary cherry syrup in it. That pretty much blows a hole in the "diet" label :-)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Are we going to have a HABOTN meet-up tomorrow? Sounds grewvy.

    ReplyDelete
  36. all Hotties are welcome to attend.

    Location: My basement
    Time: 1 pm

I'd love to see y'all, but I'm just not up for that drive this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  37. You oughta to know by now.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I would love to meet the Hotties. I enjoy alumni recalling the past. It makes me appreciate what I have now and realize that I don't have much time left.

    ReplyDelete
  39. MrsTHT and I (+/-LGGB and/or 2.0) will be there for Arky State and we better have a Hottie Ho!Down

    ReplyDelete
  40. There's no doubt the volcano knew 2.0 would be flying home next week. Yet another travel adventure brewing. Even if it clears up by then, I'm guessing Heathrow will have bigger crowds than Freaknik.

    ReplyDelete

Good to be home from BR, La. Anything fun/interesting happen while I was away?

    ReplyDelete
  42. There are not many who remember.

  43. Jay G.,

to being a dumb one all in one post.

    ReplyDelete
  48. FSJ - do you know when/if iPad will have video chat capability?

BTW, how goes it on the dark side?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Jim n Nicks sucks! It's the Friday's of BBQ.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Agreed Jim n Nicks does suck.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Star Trek on blu-ray arrives tomorrow. My control over the Netflix account continues.

    ReplyDelete
  52. OK, the elder Freepette is on her way northward. I told her not to get too close to the big nasty football 'playas'. She rolled her eyes. Just like her mom does.

    ReplyDelete
  53. As for the offense, there's only one word I want to hear this season:

    BOATRACE!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I sampled the famous Little Dooey in Starkville a couple of weeks ago, and, well, it was good. But I can't say it was great.

    ReplyDelete
  55. The weekly Pathetic Puppet Hour starts in 8 minutes. I need some strange news to make an innocent comment on that pisses people off.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Wells, video of Barbee's Chick Fil A experience autoloads on AuburnTigers.com right now. Are you on it?

    ReplyDelete
  57. After four years in StarkVegas, Jet, I would have to agree.

I'd even say it was VERY good, but not great.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Article on AU pitcher Cole Nelson's father.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Cops are still looking for Freaknik. It's out there, but they haven't seen it yet.

    ReplyDelete
  60. well, PF, I Googled "strange news" and the most recent story is about Steven Seegal. Maybe we should stick to "normal news" for your comments.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I heard about Steven Seagal on sports radio Wednesday. Is he really trafficking in women? High Five!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Maybe he can traffic in the Kennesaw State Women's Soccer stadium.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Okay, nothing seems to be moving along with a roaring thud, so I will create a topic.

Under what circumstances do you see Kodi Burns being the MVP for A-Day?

    ReplyDelete
  64. When he takes the field, FC.

    ReplyDelete
  65. That topic, like my recent attempts, sucks, though. Let's keep trying.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Harrison, I need to see the entries before I can place my bet. Chances are, I'll be putting my money on the 6 seed in the East regional, but photos may change that.

    ReplyDelete
  67. just come to Smitty's tomorrow night after the game.
    Directions:
    1.Drive to Auburn
    2.stop anywhere
    3. ask where smitty lives
    4. show up...with beer

    ReplyDelete
  68. our old man neighbor came to our house wednesday night and said our cat was pooping in his flower bed. I told him we'd give him a good talking to. I hate people

    ReplyDelete
  69. Send him a bill for the fertilizer.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Smitty is a gentleman.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Smitty has the strength of 10 oxen, and the agility of a llama. His agility is not as impressive as his strength, obviously.

    ReplyDelete
  72. how much do cat turds go for these days?

    ReplyDelete
  73. What is the ammonia content of the poop, Harrison? A quick taste should tell you all you need to know.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I didn't say eat the poop, Harrison. It should not take you this long to get back to me if you just had a little taste.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I'd say 5 parts turd to 1 part ammonia

    ReplyDelete
  76. That should get you tree fitty per ounce on the black poop market.

    ReplyDelete
  77. wow, that's a whole lot more than I get for mine on the black poop market.

    ReplyDelete
  78. *mine = my cat's

    wait a minute.... I don't have a cat.

    ReplyDelete
  79. If I did have a cat, we would be road-tripping to tally for the cat-throw contest.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Enjoyed the Mamma G's boys. It will be even more enjoyable soon. See everybody at A-Day. Is there an official meet-up or what?

    ReplyDelete
  81. I'll refrain from answering that queston.. for once

    ReplyDelete
  82. THT - Too maximize your "cat's" poo value, be sure to let it steam in a cooler for at least 2 days.

    ReplyDelete
  83. steam the cat before it poos?

    ReplyDelete
  84. Momma G's was good today. Phred, Jet and myself, along with a guest had several topics to discuss. Missed some of you today.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I will be there Saturday. I am headed to the New Arena about 11:30am.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I have heard that Shon Coleman is coming to Au Saturday.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Hotties Ho!

Puppet Hour is ovah! I'm outta here.

    ReplyDelete
  88. fascinating, wtc. I guess he's not immunosuppressed from his treatment if he's going to be out and about. Go Shon!!!

    ReplyDelete
  89. just like him to leave without answering a question.

    ReplyDelete
  90. What are the current odds on having a QB depth chart by the end of spring practice?

    ReplyDelete
  91. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I favor coming up with a scoring system for QBs and let that determine the starter.

    Completion: 1 point per yard
    Incompletion: -5 points
    Fumble: -40 points
    INT: -40 points
    Sack: -10 points
    TD: 40 points

    Let the competition begin.

Now, wouldn't that make the A-Day game more exciting?

    ReplyDelete
  93. The offense's ludicrous speed would be matched by its ludicrous scoring average with that score set, SFC.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Seanzie's blog continues. Hit up Kinnucans. Went to old navy. Purchased trunks. 12 pack bud light @ Kroger. 2 hours at the pool with Pandora.

    ReplyDelete
  95. people who don't like playoff hockey haven't watched playoff hockey. Or maybe they have but just didn't like it..... but they should have.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Playoff hockey is good and very intense.
I watch more games at this time of year than at any other.
Still just can't get into soccer but I am sure it is a great game.
I will watch some NBA when it gets past the first round.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Anonymous7:46 PM

so did anyone come up with a plan tomorrow other than Cincy?

    ReplyDelete
  99. CH=B, you have zero credibility. Jim N Nicks is bs bbq.

  103. You can't teach taste, I guess.

    ReplyDelete
  104. The silent treatment after a homer is great.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Count me as a fan of throw-back unis. Esp MLB & NFL. The Braves and Padres yesterday looked very good.

    ReplyDelete
  106. i definitely like the old NFL uniforms.

I also like when the PengWINS!!!

Blackhawks and Predators on my TV now. Of the 8 first round matchups, this one is the least interesting to me. Which means its only very interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Would like to have you on my radio program JGT shoot me an e-mail wspohousedivided@gmail.com

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  111. OK ... we won the Outback Bowl yet again. Whew. How ridiculous was that game.

    ReplyDelete
  112. What a wonderful day I have had! All day, in Auburn, with my son. Then the evening with Mr. Cincy and in-laws watching Blindside. Parents hadn't seen it, so we watched to get into the football spirit. Now waiting on daughter and son-in-law to get here from Nashville. Life is good!!

Going to the Induction breakfast at 8:30 and then to the arena tour. We will get to the condo around 11 am and then go back after the game is over. Anyone is welcome to stop by. Gate code is 5241.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Was just reading on Shon Coleman's Caring Bridge site that he had to be admitted to the hospital today for a low sodium level. They were able to do his spinal tap, but unable to do his chemo. His mom said he was watching the Outback Bowl.

    ReplyDelete
  114. thanks for those updates, Cincy.

    Speaking of updates...
Red Wings 4 Coyotes 4; 7 minutes to go.

Nashville got the jump on Chicago earlier.

Last I saw E-Bros Avs and the Sharks were tied at 3 in the 2nd, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  115. oops, Detroit 5
    Phoenix 4

    with 6:06 to go.

    ReplyDelete
  116. i expect chiz to get a call any day now from the ncaa telling him the outback bowl is not over and AU and northwestern should report to tampa to play another overtime.

    ReplyDelete
  117. i'm also curious how THT found a picture of me to use as his avatar...

    ReplyDelete
  118. chip chip - we must be twin sons of different mothers

    E-Bro Avs 5 Sharks 4 with 3:15 to go

We've had no OT hockey tonight :-(

    ReplyDelete
  119. 1:23 to go before Avs up 2-0 in series

    Avs 5 Sharks 4

    SOG: Avs 18 SHarks 45

    ReplyDelete
  120. Sharks tie it with 31 seconds to go. We may get some FREE hockey this morning!!!

    ReplyDelete
  121. Good morning hotties.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Morning all.

Gotta 10 miler to run this AM. Starts at 6:15. Cut grass starting at 8:00am. Hit the road to AU at about 10:30. it is going to be a great day.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Belgian Waffles! oops, that was Belgian Substance on HABOTN 7 minutes ago.

Rise and shine, Hotties! It's A-Day!!!!

    WARRRRR EAGLE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  124. No QB's listed on the spring game roster. Therefore, no starter. Blue team looks to be 1st team offense. Brandon Moseley looks to be the starting tackle on the 1st team offense over R Gayden.

    ReplyDelete
  125. White team has the 1st team defense on it and the 2nd team offense.

This is for the first half of play.

    ReplyDelete
  126. if I had a 10 mile run starting at 6:15 a.m. I wouldn't be back to mow grass until 8 p.m.

Thankfully, instead of running, I get to drive to Raleigh this morning. I'll be back for the game.

    Hottie Ho!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  127. Anonymous6:59 AM

Good morning. Heading to Auburn in a few minutes.

PF, I'm going to have Mike & ED's today. Is that ok with you? Thought I would ask since you are the resident BBQ expert.

    ReplyDelete
  128. A-Day

    Wooo Hooo!!!

    ReplyDelete
  129. 10 miler done. check.

Decided to go to the gym for about an hour instead of grass cutting. Too much dew on the ground.

    ReplyDelete
  130. happy a-day to AU fans.

happy a-hole day to the cousin humpers.

i wonder if they can get all bammers they let in free to leave and go back to their trailors where there is no running water. those bathrooms at the stadium must seem like a palace. there may be a tent city in the endzone by the end of the day.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Oh, go unwad your pantied. I don't hold a torch to some here in my bbq knowledge, and it's an insult to them for you to call me the resident expert. Speaking of which, where's FSJ?

That is a much more acceptable choice, though.

    ReplyDelete
  132. ...and even though you lose cred by calling the previous place great, you should eat what you like. Like's too short to let some jerk on the internet tell you what's good and what's not.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Good guys beat Man City with 20 seconds remaining in a 93-minute match. Talk about a GREAT START to the day!

That's two wins against Les Biatches® in stoppage time. Wooooooo.

    ReplyDelete
  134. A little FYI: The "media" lot already is full (I'm in Montgomery) which means I'll be parking in Loachapoka today.

... so we'll be starting a little later than expected today.

    ReplyDelete
  135. My buddy Daryl shut out Crystal Palace Baltimore last night. Baltimore's video feed was broken, so I "watched" the game via twitter. Strange.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Jay G, what time does the media lot usually fill up for A-Day?

    ReplyDelete
  137. Gym done. check.

Cut grass in front yard only. Have to the back when I get back.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Anonymous10:37 AM

The new NCAA taunting enforcement will be very strict. I dislike individual accolades more than most folks, but the examples shown on ESPN of what will now be considered taunting were ridiculously strict. In 2011 the foul will be considered a live ball foul and will take points off the board.

    ReplyDelete
  139. You mean high stepping, holding the ball out, pointing at your opponent, and doing backflips into the endzone is strict? The new rule only really gets rid of showboating during a play, which doesn't happen so often as it is.

    ReplyDelete
  140. there's word missing there. Oh, well.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Anonymous11:09 AM

Just looking back at the opponent, diving into the endzone or a Trey Smith-type somersault will get you a taunting penalty and take points off the board in 2011.

I agree that high-stepping and pointing at your opponent are taunting, but the other stuff is going too far.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Lots of traffic here in Au 50 cars deep just to get off the interstate 10 minutes to from off ramp to the waffle house # 1 mile.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Anonymous11:17 AM

It may be necessary to look back to see if you are about to be tackled or if you can slow down and not pull a muscle.

Sometimes somersault is safer than landing on your head of shoulder.

If a runner fears getting tackled at the endzone, a dive can ensure not getting tackled.

Consider this: A breakaway runner is closing on the endzone and doesn't know how much room he has
to make it. The new rule doesn't allow him to look back or to dive, so he has to run full speed just in case.

Also, what constitutes "looking back"? Is a quick look that doesn't linger allowed? What about when midfield and making a cutback ..can the runner check back up field then? This is probably an officiating nightmare.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Anonymous11:19 AM

wtc ...sounds like we're gonna have 50k+ attend. Gone ..are the days of just walking into A-day and picking a seat. That's a good thing.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Anonymous11:20 AM

Best thing about A-Day... The seats are all fair game. Right on the 50 for free thanks to the student card. Yes.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I see your point, Hoopie. I'd say that the refs should be able to call that fairly, but we know it won't be that way in the SEC.

    ReplyDelete
  147. A-Day thread is UPZ.

    ReplyDelete
  148. The new taunting rules are good. The next step should be for any players who scores points to go over and apologize to the other team for possibly damaging their self esteem. To speed things up, the teams should print up pre-written sincere apologies before the game to help speed things along.

    ReplyDelete
