Gene Chizik speaks in Montgomery

Hey everyone. I have returned from the Montgomery Auburn Club shindig, which was held in the very upscale-ish Renaissance hotel.

Thanks to Ronda Beesley and Stan Maxey, MAC stalwarts, for being there for me.

I also want to give another shout-out to WEG. That's twice in a week!

OK. OK. So what did Chizik have to say?

I'd be happy to share those comments with you.

  • On the NCAA's decision to ban Auburn's "Tiger Prowl" barnstorming tours to high schools: ``We don't really put a whole lot of time and thought toward why rules are made up. We obviously follow the rules. With the SEC or the NCAA, whatever they are, we follow all the rules to the best of our ability."

  • On if it's a good thing (as Trooper Taylor expressed) that the NCAA is curbing Auburn's enterprises: ``I don't think of it in terms of that at all. We just follow and abide by whatever legislation that they make. That's really what we do."

  • On if his staff will begin brainstorming some new ideas: ``We're always going to do whatever we can to market Auburn and Auburn University football. We'll always do that. When we get done with this recruiting season, we'll go back and revisit it and look at what it is that we could have done better. We try to do that with every phase of our football program."

  • So do you meet at a big table or what? ``We do. We throw it out on the table and see who's got what."

  • So who is your MVP when it comes to ideas? ``I've got a whole room full of MVPs. It's really a great mix. There are a lot of creative ideas and creative minds in there. Guys really know their trade well. They know 17- and 18-year-old men and what gets them excited."

  • Is there a synergy between what you all do and what Tony Barbee is doing with basketball? ``I know Tony is going to be really great at the recruiting area of our basketball program. We've already gotten together and worked together and talked through some things. I think there will be a lot of parallels between what we try to do and they try to do."

  • How can you help them? ``Anytime there's a basketball recruit who's interested in Auburn -- just coming to the football end of it and coming to a game-day experience. I think that always helps. When you can come to an event that shows the passion and the tradition of a place, I think it really open the guys' eyes."

  • Does that actually work? ``I think so. I think you work as a team with all of the basketball-football-baseball guys. It's all one, big family. We always try to cross over and help in anyway we can -- both in knowledge of where players are and what we can do to help … with recruiting."

  • What's the latest with Big Cat Weekend? ``That's kind of down the road a little ways. We're in the premliminary processes in terms of getting ready for it. That was a fairly successful weekend last year in our opinion. We don't know exactly where we're at with it right now in terms of how many, who is coming. We feel really good about it going to be a really good weekend."

  • Do you find that last year's publicity makes the prospects come to you and ask for an invitation? ``I don't know if they come to us. You always have to go out and seek them and energize them enough for them to want to come. Last year's success certainly helped."

  4. Thanks. I'll hang up and listen.

  5. Actually, I'll check you tomorrow. I'm hitting the fartsack.

Good BBQ and visiting with friends and realizing that Chizik is in love with Auburn, too.
Also like the idea of supporting the Museum with the locals.
    Good night had by all.

  8. Miller,

I posted a link a few threads back on Hoover info. I'm not going to link from my mobile, but go to secsports.com, click on sports, scroll down and there's a link to Hoover under baseball. Tickets are within that link, and on sale now.

  9. Does anyone know, perhaps Jay could answer this, why so many media members decide to use _______gate as an instant substitute for a situation involving a high profile person and any potential trouble that may arise?

Example: Marv Albert's color commentator on this evening's Cleveland-Boston bball matchup has used "Elbow-gate" at least 4 times in the 10 minutes I've been watching. For those who don't know, LeBron has had his elbow looked at recently following an injury last week.

I would also like a perspective on why so many ignorant people are sports fans. I heard chants of "MVP" about 40 times during this game, and close to 20 during the Lakers game. Kobe didn't even come close to first in the voting, in fact, he was third. And after chanting for your star maybe twice/three times, I can understand. But as much as it was done tonight is just annoying.

  10. Cincy,

I'm not on Verizon, but I think their best android phone is the Incredible. I don't like the no keyboard thing, but he's used to it from using an iPhone. Whatever he gets, make sure it has a good processor so that Froyo (2.2) and beyond will run well on it. I think their phones are all currently running 2.1, so that shouldn't be an issue, but the newer the better. They've gotten a lot better in just the past year. It's amazing how fast the android technologies are increasing in awesomeness.

  11. Great work JayG. Appreciate it.

I think it's awesome that Auburn football and basketball are even being talked about in the same breath as being part of a collective. Can't wait for that first weekend in September, but I'm also looking forward to that first tip-off in November.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Wells, there's always playoff MVP...or finals MVP...or round 2, game 2 MVP....The NBA loves giving out MVP awards.

    ReplyDelete
  13. E-bto, baseball, too. I heard baseball.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Or Round 2, Game 2, Minute 2 of Part 2 of Half 2 MVP. Maybe I can do that one day...

PF, there's an article on the rivals site that the cheap people like myself can read about baseball. Mentions us in the outsides of possibly hosting a regional this year.

    Mummey got named SEC POW.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yeah, I think there's a chance. AUPPL does a "Regional Radar" every week, and the prognostictors have had AU holding as a 2 seed in either Tally or Atlanta for a while now. I think that changes is they win 7 of the last 10 games. It's a done deal if they can win 10 of 10, but let's not get greedy.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Mummey is amazing. Misss 28 games, the come back with little to no rust. He's a playa, fo sho!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Sorry Peter, we're in the middle of baseball season. I'm not looking forward to that right now. Well, I'm looking forward to hopefully having us at Hoover this year, but we're in the middle of it right now.

Basketball and Football are in the potential energy stage. Baseball is kinetic right now. I don't have to look forward to it. I'm living it. I'm ready for us to sweep our first series since UGA this weekend against State.

So no worries. Much love for Auburn Baseball.

  22. Cincy-I have a Droid phone by HTC. had it since November. Runs almost like an iphone. To me it is very sensitive to the touch. meaning it navigates to other screens with a simple touch of the screen. For me that happens and i did not mean for it to. In AL I have no trouble with service. I have email, internet service also. I like it. The Droid by Motorola is faster, for now. It has a slide out keyboard. i just found it too clunky. Hope that helps.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I didn't see your original post Cincy, so I'm not sure exactly what the question was. but I have the new Incredible. I really like it. I have never had much luck using touchscreen keyboards, including the Iphone, however immediately after picking the incredible up I was able to type on it.

I've had it since thursday and have no complaints so far.

  41. Wow, the secrecy has brought the blog to a screeching halt.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Yes, this secrecy is tearing our virtual family apart. I think we need an intervention.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Alright, alright. No secrecy in play. Just something a bit peculiar involving an old friend Jet and I share. Show's over. Nothing to see here. Move along. Remain calm. All is well. ALL IS WELL!

  46. Why do I have the feeling the secret decoder messages will look very similar to "Michael type"?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Decoder ring is ready and available.

I hope all goes well for Jhag.

    What's up with that?

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think I just cracked the code. It says "Norm, you will never destroy me. Love, Jet."

    ReplyDelete
  52. Eddie,

It's actually a multi-level code. You just got through level one, which is still jibberish.

  54. I tried doing my homework with the invisible ink pens that you could get out of cereal boxes. I got a zero.

  55. if the guy only got tasered he prolly got off lucky. it was in Philly for goodness sakes!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Someone help me out. My wife's Vaio laptop has a problem. The female power receiver adapter thing fell out at some point. Now, where you plug the chord into the laptop is just 2 pins that really doesn't connect well to the chord. The connection is still there, but it is so loose that there is not a steady supply of power. I have no idea what this part is even called. I've done some searching, but without knowing what I'm searching for, I'm coming up empty.

    ReplyDelete
  57. No shout out for moi? I was there too! Sorry I didn't get to speak with ya JGT. I think Chizik's a better speaker than Tubs ever was. Do wish he would have spoken more about spring practices, though.

    ReplyDelete
  58. PF ...

    A ... nevermind.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Nevermind. Found detailed schematics.

  60. Secrete Code is funny. My cereal box secrete code ring sez

  62. Just stopped and talked to the most frustrated Census worker ever. He didn't understand why they sent him out to gather information of homes that either the residents are all seasonal from up north, or the owners have let foreclose because they speculated on a market that collapsed. In my "neighborhood", there are 40 homes. 8 are occupied. He was really happy that I saved him time, but was upset that he was given an impossible job.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Just realized I've got a major conflict with Hoover. I'm moving that weekend. Dangit! Guess I'll have to figure out regionals. While I want Auburn to host, Tallahassee is convenient.

    ReplyDelete
  66. For the baseball uninitiated...is our participation in a regional exclusive to anything that we do in the SEC tourney? Is it totally dependent on what we do in Hoover? Or are the regular season and the conference tourney both pieces to a puzzle in deciding who makes regionals?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Bro- You could go play in a regional and not play in the SEC Tourney in Theory.

    ReplyDelete
  68. That's what I thought. So if we finish strong(ish) these last few weeks, it's more a question of whether or not we host a regional, right?

    ReplyDelete
  69. When is the last time Auburn hosted a regional?

    ReplyDelete
  70. I'm guessing 1996, but it is a total guess.

    ReplyDelete
  71. all is well peeps, medications are well, as well

    ReplyDelete
  72. we hosted in 1999 for sure. i worked it. we won that & went to the Super Regional in Tallahassee only to get blown out in 2 games by FSU.

    ReplyDelete
  73. here's the post 1999 Regional locations for our AU Tigers:

    2000-Atlanta
    2001-Tallahassee
    2002-Tuscaloosa
    2003-AUBURN
    2005-Tallahassee

  75. I was hoping he would make a comment on El Toro, but getting info out of ChizCo doesn't appear to be easy.

    ReplyDelete
  76. In the old days we had Kremlin watchers who read the tea leaves as to what was going to happen next. The Auburn football program is a little more difficult to read than that.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I am thinking that naming the starting QB at a random time after spring practice but before fall practice could become a tradition. It would add excitement for everyone during the dead period and give me a reason to get up and check who may or may not have been named.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Steve- I hope we are not doing that next season.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Hellooooooo Kennesaw, GA!

    ReplyDelete
  80. I love the way the media reports incidents with tasers.

The sportscenter anchor said "he remained down for 30 seconds".

That isn't because he couldn't get up because he was tased. Thats because he was being told "If you move a muscle, you'll be tased again"

Everyone is all up in arms about him getting tased, but when a football player tackles a guy who runs on the field no one has any problems. I promise you the guy will have more long term effects from being tackled by someone in pads than they will from the taser.

    ReplyDelete
  81. i have on problem with the tase. tase away coppers!

    nice work THT!

    ReplyDelete
  82. Don't tase me bro!

    ReplyDelete
  83. I love that someone getting the taser is news.

Meanwhile a major city is underwater and there is something in the news about an oil spill.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Hey, I have jury duty in Fulton County, GA tomorrow. This'll be the second time I've reported to them for such. Maybe I'll have better luck this time and they'll pick me so my day isn't wasted. I can make quick work of any trial. They wouldn't be there if they weren't guilty of something.

    ReplyDelete
  85. truth. justice. and the Norm way.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I would refrain from saying that if you want to be picked Norm.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Cothron is in. Just saw it per Bryan Matthews' twitter.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Great news wellsau. We are going to be pretty good next year with that kind of front court. We will be young, but with so many games we should be ready for the SEC season to start.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Just got a twitter update myself. Things are looking up for round ball.

    ReplyDelete
  90. wake - I know. I'll tow the company line and spew what they expect to hear. I was picked once in Montgomery. That fellow has probably been released from prison a year or so ago.

    ReplyDelete
  91. From the Bryan Matthews blog:

Cothron, who is originally from Huntsville, Ala., chose Auburn over Connecticut, Tennessee and N.C. State. He is rated by several recruiting sites as one of the nation's Top 100 prospects

Coach B is lightin' a fire on the recruiting trail. Let's hope it leads to great play on the court for the rest of the team.

    ReplyDelete
  92. good news for baseketball. So i checked all the baseball rankings and its crazy to me that we are no.19 in baseball america's and not ranked in the coaches' poll

    ReplyDelete
  93. My jury duty experience was not exciting. Mrs. Jet's experience, as I believe I have shared before, was.

She was sequestered for a week, and turned out to be quite the matchmaker. She hooked up the bailiff and one of the jurors, and they eventually married.

She also arranged a date for the defendant with the loving arms of Yellow Mama.

Love, though, is fickle. Neither one worked out. The couple divorced, and the Supreme Court ordered a new trial.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Jet - I don't recall hearing that level of detail about her matchmaking. It's a shame to read that neither of her matchups worked out.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Cothron is also expected to be a full qualifier.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Too many people think of a tazer as a weapon. It is, in reality, an educational tool. Some people need more education than others.

    ReplyDelete
  97. So Yellow Mama is the AL elec chair, huh? I had visions of kinfolk of a certain AU trustee from my neck of the woods.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Steve,

You never know who you're tasing. Some people can handle it, some can't. Plus, it's more of a torture thing than a football tackle.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Yellow Mama is a high power educational tool.

    ReplyDelete
  100. If people ignore the directions of a police officer, they are basically requesting to be educated.

    ReplyDelete
  101. What about when it's a 13 year old kid? You know, the anniversary of the Kent State shootings was yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  102. "Don't taze me bro!"

    ReplyDelete
  103. tase 'em til they're toast. If they ain't smart by then, they ain't gonna get smart.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Here we go, here we go, here we go now.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Kids need education too.

    ReplyDelete
  106. When things are happening fast you don't have time to ask questions or be nice and polite. After the fact it is easy to say well you should have done so and so or you shouldn't have done so and so. Police have been taught to act now and ask questions later if you want to live long enough to retire.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Who exactly can't handle a taser PF?

    ReplyDelete
  108. Tase, baby, tase!

    ReplyDelete
  109. I'm heading home before I get tased.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Oh yeah?!?! Well I'm heading to the repair shop to pick up my mower and then headed home. I just dare someone to try and tase me.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Poor kid. How could anyone be expected to remember a knife in their pocket in that circumstance?

    ReplyDelete
  112. You let some stranger touch your mower!?! Have you no self respect?

    ReplyDelete
  113. Has anyone hated Bama today?

    ReplyDelete
  114. Oh I've hated, If I had bama in front of me I'd tase them, but not till after I sprayed them with OC and beat the crap out of them with an asp.

    ReplyDelete
  115. HATE....flowing through these veins!

    ReplyDelete
  116. That may be the stupidest question I've ever heard.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Next AU innovation to be overruled quickly by NCAA ...

    Defensive backs with Tasers.

    ReplyDelete
  118. There are certainly cases where police abuse their authority, but the place to take care of that is in court. On the streets you obey the police. I am a big believer in obeying the rules.

There was a case in NC years back where some soldiers thought they were in a training exercise when the police pulled them over. Yes, this sounds nuts but it happened in the little town I lived in. One of the soldiers tried to get one of the officer's guns away from him. The officer shot him dead. I did not know the officer that shot him dead, but I did know the chief of police of this small town. The officer did the right thing. Yea, it is a tragedy, but police officers have to react quickly and sometimes it turns out bad.

    ReplyDelete
  119. There's no current rule explicitly forbidding it. Sounds good to me.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Seanzie, is that a rhetorical question?

    ReplyDelete
  121. I found a bit on the story at a weird website.

    Officers Involved: Randall Butler

    Location: Robbins North Carolina

2/29/2002 -- Deputy Randall Butler mistakenly shot and killed a U.S. soldier and seriously wounded another taking part in a role-playing field training exercise. The exercise, dubbed "Robin Sage," was the final stage of the qualification course for the U.S. Special Forces, also known as the Green Berets. The drill is conducted four times a year and stretches over nine North Carolina counties. The soldiers were on what U.S. Army officials described as a reconnaissance mission Saturday afternoon when Deputy Randall Butler pulled them over in a traffic stop near Robbins. The soldiers were driving in an unmarked vehicle and dressed in civilian clothing, the sheriff's department said. Butler was unaware the exercise was underway, while the soldiers believed the deputy was part of the training exercise, according to the sheriff's department statement. "One of the soldiers attempted to disarm the officer, as the other was attempting to get to a military weapon that the soldiers had in their possession," the statement said. "At the time of the incident, the deputy believed that the two individuals intended on killing him, resulting in the deputy shooting both of the suspects."

    ReplyDelete
  122. A more credible source.

The lesson is to not fool around with police officers. They have to react and sometimes mistakes occur.

    ReplyDelete
  123. It's sad that someone had to die over a mistake, but the point is like you said....TAKE POLICE SERIOUS. If they tell you to do something just do it. You make not like it and they may be in the wrong, but disagreeing at that moment is not the right time. Work it out later. I truly believe that if you run from the cops you deserve what is coming to you. You deserve a few kicks and punches for endangering the officers' and civilians' lives.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I think the lesson there is the local law enforcement should be notified before training exercises like this are to occur. Either that or part of the parameters of the exercise are the police are not a part of the exercise.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Its turning into... TASERGATE!

    ReplyDelete
  126. Police are a trifle and of no consequence to me.

    ReplyDelete
  127. CH, I think you meant that if you "drive" away from the police and endanger people you should be accountable. Last time I checked, there is no law to prevent me from running away from the police as long as I don't trespass on someone's property.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I like the way your mind works API. Plus I am wicked fast.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Yeah, tru dat, API. That whole "resisting arrest" thing is a myth propagated by the man to keep us down!

    ReplyDelete
  130. I hereby authorize the use of tasers and/or deadly force in Lady Lake, FL. Somebody down there has gotten hold of my AMEX number and has spent $600+.

    ReplyDelete
  131. You should probably check again API.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Sorry Scott, that is one county north of me, can't help you out.

    ReplyDelete
  133. What if you're standing in your county and the perpetrator is standing just over the line in his county? Can you tase across county lines? I'll bet Buford T. Justice would.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I heard "don't tase me" was what bammers say when they are trying to say...don't tease me!!!!!
    .
    .
    .
    .
Seriously, some people over here in my neck of the woods actually DO say tase and mean tease!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  135. And what exactly was I being arrested for at the point I was 'resisting'?

    ReplyDelete
  136. Tasing Bammers sounds like a great halftime activity for the Iron Bowl.

    ReplyDelete
  137. V 1.1

And what exactly what was I being arrested for at the point I was 'resisting'?

    ReplyDelete
  138. "They know 17- and 18-year-old men and what gets them excited."

    ReplyDelete
  139. If the police have a legal right to stop you, and you run, you are obstructing justice/resisting without violence.

There is actually new case law that states if you are in a high crime area, and you see the police and run, they can chase you.

    Sorry bud.

  140. if I'm in a high crime area, I'm going to be running whether or not police see me. I'm gettin outta there ASAP.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Sounds like one of those "Florida Laws". I agree - if you have a legal right to stop me. I pull over for flashing blues, and have won my last two court cases ( not that it happens often ). I politely disagree with police officers.

A prosecutor would be wise not to impanel me on a jury.

    ReplyDelete
  142. API, it's actually a supreme court decision.

When you are talking about running from the police, I'm assuming they tried to stop you in the first place. Other wise you aren't really running from the police. You are just running. lol

  143. Wake, a sincere thanks for the info. I'll do a little more research.

    ReplyDelete
  144. speaking of law, I had a large bowl of ice cream and Hershey's Chocolate Syrup before supper. Is it legal for me to have another bowl tonight during the 2nd intermission?

    ReplyDelete
  145. It's Legal THT, as long as you don't put Gummy bears on it.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Thanks, Wake. That's great news coming from an officer of the law. I'll enjoy it immensely, especially knowing that I don't have to get up and run if the police see me doing another bowl.

    ReplyDelete
  147. If you do run, watch out for parked cars... they are dangerous.

    ReplyDelete
  148. ouch! Thanks for that reminder.

10 minutes til puck drops. I'm going to put my Penguins shirt on and head to the basement. On Sunday, i watched upstairs and the Pens lost. I'm sure they knew I wasn't in the right place.

  149. For a cop to be asking me who exactly can't handle a taser is disturbing to me, and just helps cement my ultimate distrust for law enforcement. Not that I don't think some can't be good people, and I've had a lot of fun with off duty cops, but that uniform, badge, and gun change everything.

    ReplyDelete
  150. I've never seen this huge room so empty. I could play jai alai in here.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Nevermind, I might hit peter.

    ReplyDelete
  152. I'm serious PF, in your mind who can't handle a taser?

What the taser is and does, and how the media portrays a taser are two totally different things.

    ReplyDelete
  153. A taser can be lethal. But so can any man-stopping implement.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Listen, I'm not an expert. You are (or should be). All I know is that people have died or had serious injuries because of tasers. The cops argument is almost always that there was no way to know, and if the person didn't have whatever condition, or wasn't on whatever drugs they would have been safe to tase.

Well, guess what, they did have those problems. Kids should never be tased. People obviously on uppers or pcp should never be tases. People with heart conditions should never be tases. It is cruel to tase people with mental disabilities. If you can't distinguish who is who, don't tase anyone. One person dying is too many, even if they are thought to be lawless scum.

If I do something to someone that wouldn't kill or hurt most people, but that person has a condition that caused them to die, I'm going to be tried for murder. Police get away with it, though, because their intentions are automatically believed to be good and just.

    ReplyDelete
  155. How exactly does the media portray it differently? It's emits an electrical charge into a person. Seems like a simple concept that can't be twisted too much.

    ReplyDelete
  156. I'm a big shillelagh proponent.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Missing words again. Play PF Mad Libs if you want...

    ReplyDelete
  158. Let's handcuff ourselves to the "what ifs" of the world.

What if the dumb@$$ didn't run on the field? He wouldn't have gotten tased?

The kid was more likely to get hurt by being tackled by three security guards than being tased.

What if I bust an artery from reading an inane post on HABOTN? Does that mean everyone should not post?

How about we own our actions and deal with the consequences? If the kid had been seriously injured or, God forbid, died, then yes, the cops would have had to own the action. But 99 percent of the time, dumb@$$e$ get lit up like Christmas trees because they're dumb$$e$ who deserve it and they get over it in short order.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Well, you think cops are generally good and thay people are generally bad, Jet. I think they're a bunch of lazy, power mad Eric Cartmans, and people are generally good...

    ReplyDelete
  160. I'm by no means an expert on a taser. I don't have the scienfic knowledge to understand exactly how it works, or exactly what effects it has.

I do however know it is the safest tool I am given. At the same time that I am given authorization by the law and my departments general orders to use my taser, I am also given the right to spray them with oc, hit them with an expandable baton or flashlight, punch and kick them, or if a k9 or equine unit is on scene, they can be bitten by a dog or stepped on by a horse. Now out of those options, which would you prefer?

    ReplyDelete
  161. The most dangerous aspect of a taser is the fall that is associated with it. Assuming we are going to in some way bring that person down one way or another, I would much prefer I come down under my own weight than under two other peoples weight. But thats just me.

    ReplyDelete
  162. What risk did the kid pose to society? Play stopped, so there's no risk to the players. He wasn't threatening anyone. Subdue him in the most gentle manner and let the courts punish him. You can say he deserved it (which implies punishment), but it is not the police officer's job to punish people.

    ReplyDelete
  163. No, I think dumb@$$e$ -- who clearly appear old enough to be treated as an adult -- who run on baseball fields can be tased.

Yes, in general, I think most police officers are good folks who try to do a good job.

    And I think all dumb@$$e$ are dumb@$$e$.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Just because you have power doesn't mean you should use it...stepping on people with horses is a terrible way to handle a situation, but it's easy, I guess...Respect my authori-tie.

    ReplyDelete
  165. That's the thing Peter, what is a gentle manner of subduing him. Had he run to the other side of the field and let the security guards gather around him, he wouldn't have been tased. He continued to outrun the security guards. At that point there were pretty much two options available. Chase him until you catch him and tackle and probably fight him. Or you can tase him. Which is safer for both parties.

You, who have no experience with a taser, think its safer to tackle him.

I, having been tased twice, and seen close to 50 people tased, think otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Anyone given a taser needs to be an experts...They don't give guns to soldiers that aren't experts with those weapons. This is a major problem in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Tase 'em all! Let God sort 'em out!

    ReplyDelete
  168. PF, so you think we should always go hands on with aggressive subjects who may or may not be armed?

I'm with you with the horses, PF. I can't believe equine apprehension is considered non-lethal. But thats what the courts have decided.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Why do you think he would have probably fought if caught? I don't see it the same way. We're talking about someone goofing off and scared, with no violent history, not a hardened criminal....and security guards that are too slow to catch someone need to be doing something else.

    ReplyDelete
  170. I'm no gun expert, and they give me a gun. I have many friends in all branches of the military who are not experts either.

You're confusing expert with someone who knows how to properly handle one.

    ReplyDelete
  171. No, I did not say that. There are levels of discretion that aren't always followed because of various reasons. A kid running is not the same as an agressive subject. Not by a longshot.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Ok the kid doesn't fight. Is it safer for him to get tackled than tased? The statistics say otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  173. I don't know a single soldier who is not an expert with their weapons. It'd be very dumb to send them to war if they aren't.

    ReplyDelete
  174. I just can't get the image out of my head of wake on a horse ordering it to step on everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Dude called his Dad and told him he was going on the field. A once in a lifetime chance. Sorry, you're an idiot, you get to be tazed.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Why don't we just get rid of judges and let the police take over.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Think of this way, PF, if the cops didn't use the taser in the questionable situations, how would they know how to use it when the chips are down?

    See, isn't that better?

    ReplyDelete
  178. What are you talking about Judges PF? Tasing is not a punishment, it is simply a way of apprehending someone.

You asked earlier how the media misrepresented the taser earlier. Anytime you see someone tased on tv or in a movie. It knocks them out. That simply doesn't happen. As soon as the 5 second ride is over, its over. You are able to stand back up and have complete control of your body, and are not in pain (assuming you were not injured while falling).

    ReplyDelete
  179. Wake,

That was a response to the people that agree with what happened because "he deserved it," not you.

    ReplyDelete
  180. I still have to go back to Jet's earlier comment - if he doesn't go out he doesn't get tazed, and unfortunately we don't get to have this electrifying discussion.

    ReplyDelete
  181. In the movies I've seen. You see someone get tased, and they are knocked unconscious and then wake up and whoever tased them is gone.

While being tased you are awake the entire time, when its over, there is no hangover effect. I have heard of people who are extremely out of shape being a little sore the next day. But other than that the second the taser is turned off, there is no effect, you can stand up and walk around pain free.

    ReplyDelete
  182. And like I said earlier, I agree with you on the horse thing. I am shocked that is not considered lethal force.

    ReplyDelete
  183. mytommyd, I see what you did there. Clever clever.

    ReplyDelete
  184. That was good, right?!?

    ReplyDelete
  185. One of my academy buddies was a firearms instructor in the Marines. He was qualified to isntruct on the m16, m4, and m9. He did not qualify as an expert on the range with a glock.
