Rowland is fast

Hey everyone. Auburn's ace photographer, Todd Van Emst, sent along this awesome photo of sprinter Marcus Rowland.

The sophomore ran a 10.18 in the 100-meter semis and qualified for the NCAA final. He already owns the fastest 100 time in the NCAA this year, so he technically is the favorite.

  1. Track substance, which we don't see alot of

    ReplyDelete
  2. Historically, we are 10-8-1 against Arkansas. It has been very competitive.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Someone give that Rowland guy a football.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I love track events. We must make some in Auburn this year.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Lightning substance.

    (from previous thread)
I would almost be disappointed if the SEC added anyone else. With the schedules as they are, we still miss certain big opponents for four years before they return to our conference schedule.

You could argue that with more power teams in the power conference, you drop the non-conference games, but then the rift between conferences becomes even greater. No one plays each other until the post-season, and the lower schools have a TREMENDOUS drop off in annual athletic income.

I think for the good of the sport, more than 12 teams might be creating a monster. A scary one that doesn't do much good for anyone not in control of it.

    ReplyDelete
  6. That's dang impressive. Are we talking Olympic material here?

    ReplyDelete
  7. wells, if we got moved to the East, we would likely gain back some of our traditional rivals, although we would likely lose rivalries with every west team other than Bama.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I don't want expansion, but status quo gets you killed.

I'll repost this from previous thread:

If Slive's plan is looking to the East, he's lost and lost badly.

Slive could be the guy who went all-in before the flop with a pair of aces (the SEC's reputation in football) and got nothing after that.

All the schools to the East (Tech, Va. Tech, Clemson, FSU, Miami) add little in terms of TV markets and virtually zip to the footprint. It might make sense geographically, but this isn't a Monopoly game. You've got to have properties in different places in this world.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Phred: Possibly. He still has a few years before then to improve.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Night, Hotties. Y'all let me know when you get all of this expansion stuff straightened out.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I can't stay awake long enough to see if the Hawks win the Cup...

    ReplyDelete
  12. Other than ND, there is nobody the SEC could add that would compare with Texas and Oklahoma.

Before Bowden, FSU was Florida International.

Georgia Tech is pretty impressive, but wouldn't increase the footprint.

Clempson is more impressive than South Carolina, but that ain't saying much. South Carolina should change their mascot to the fighting brides maids.

Virginia Tech would definitely have an impact, but it isn't Texas and Oklahoma.

    ReplyDelete
  13. To quote the great Dan Jenkins:

The only thing worse than track is field.

The only thing longer and more uncomfortable than the NBA playoffs is pregnancy.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Maybe pick up Missouri, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, and Clempson or FSU. They can all compete in the SEC.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Jet,

Track and Field are very interesting I think.

And I would rather be pregnant than have to watch the NBA finals. Now who will take this baby after the finals are over?

    ReplyDelete
  16. The new Pac-16 is going to push for TWO AUTOMATIC BIDS to BCS, one for each division (per ESPN Dallas)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup....

    ReplyDelete
  18. I can't see that happening. What happens when the Big10 wants two also? That wouldn't make a lot of sense.

    ReplyDelete
  19. And to have one conference get two automatic bids, while some receive none would piss off a lot of people.

    ReplyDelete
  20. some Hottie earlier tonight thought the Blackhawks might win in overtime. Next thing you know he'll be trying to predict the stock market.

btw, dude looks almost as fast as I used be. I once ran a 10.18 forty, too!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yea, I once ran a 10.18. No wait, that was a 101.8 forty.

    ReplyDelete
  22. 2 bcs bids for one conference? that just sounds stupid.

    ReplyDelete
  23. the "c" is for championship, i.e. as in conference champion. I don't care if the the Pac, Big12 and Big10+++++++ merge into a megaloconference, there'd still only be one champion.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I still favor the SEC expanding to become the Huge48 conference by picking the elite from the other 5 major conferences. The Huge48 will only need one BCS bid.

    ReplyDelete
  25. the following is from yahoo sports

Suspended Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli was kicked off the team Wednesday, two days after a police officer cited him for marijuana possession and driving infractions...
A Springfield police officer cited Masoli late Monday on charges of possessing less than one ounce of marijuana, driving with a suspended license and failure to stop when entering a roadway, said Sgt. Tom Borchers of the Springfield Police Department...

[Coach Chip]Kelly suspended Masoli in March for the entire 2010 season after the QB pleaded guilty to burglary for his role in the theft of laptops and a guitar from a fraternity. Masoli remained on scholarship and practiced with the team this spring in hopes of returning for the 2011 season.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Way to go Chip Kelly!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. also from yahoo sports

USC sanctions to be announced soon?
"In the next two days" marks at least the fifth media "deadline" for a verdict, though this one is easily the best-sourced and most specific.

    ReplyDelete
  28. highly recruited DB from Lauderdale Lakes, who signed with Michigan in February, has been denied admission. That's gotta stink. I'm assuming it was based on academics, but no reason was given.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I will believe the NCAA sanctions are happening when I hear them.

As for Michigan, they are one of the most interesting teams to watch this next season. Rich Rod will be gone if they aren't significantly improved. He hasn't come close to being as good as Llody Carr.

    ReplyDelete
  30. SFC - I've got to be at Toyota in less than 7 hours to get car oil change and funny engine sound investigated. So I guess I'll call it quits like all those sissies who've already left us.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The famous Mobile economist probably best described the driving factor behind conference expansion.

    "Where da gold at?"

    ReplyDelete
  32. "famous Mobile economist"

that is truly funny. I can go to bed chuckling now. Not sure what response that will elicit from MrsTHT.

    ReplyDelete
  33. YIKES!!! what on earth, literally, has Google done to their home page?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Somebody break down all this conference expansion stuff for me. I haven't been keeping up lately.

    ReplyDelete
  35. ESPN has been reporting USC is going to get blasted from the NCAA.

LA times is running with it.

    http://www.latimes.com/sports/

    ReplyDelete
  36. Morning, Hotties! Off to walk the hill and finish yardwork that I started on Tuesday.

Anyone heard from wtc's mom about when we might get some recruiting news? Maybe another commitment?

Sounds like USC is about to hear some bad news.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Steve,

You said earlier before Bowden FSU was Florida Internation.

Well before Spurrier, Florida was Central Florida with a splash of the cheating Miami for a couple of years. They used to say Florida was had the arrogance of Southern Cal with the tradition of South Carolina. It seems to have worked out for them after Spurrier.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Morning Hotties - prolonged periods of lack of sleep suck. That is all.

    Keep Hate Alive.

    ReplyDelete
  39. From the previous thread:

"Can you see Nebraska no longer playing Oklahoma?"

They haven't been regular opponents in over a decade.

    ReplyDelete
  40. From sports talk in Atlanta, the local USCw talking head responds to the sanctions by saying, "bring on the sanctions, it didn't hurt Alabama!" along with some other absolutely insane chatter. As I changed the station (again) I reminded myself that his job is to incite, not be rational.

All of you that saw the writing on the wall about the Kiffin hire, may now feel free to pat yourselves on the back, you were dead on.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Good morning. I still don't understand the USCw hire. You don't bring the criminal back to the scene of the crime.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Perhaps they were thinking, "Who is a big enough name, that would be stupid enough to come here when the program is about to go into some major trouble?"

He's cheaper than Carroll, expectations because of the scholly limit will drop, and after 5-6 years they can get rid of him, just in time for Pete to come back from the pro scene.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Norm - I agree. Blame the walmartians. Works for me.

    Hello from Toyota Central, Hotties.

FSJ - so did your email get exposed via iPad?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Rowland had the fastest time in the world for the year at one point (so did a certain other AU track guy that once played football), but I'm pretty sure he doesn't even have the fastest time in the NCAA anymore, much less the world. Usain ran a few weeks ago and ran a 9.86 (I think, not going to look it up, because whatever it was is faster than any current college kid), taking the fastest in the world for the year, which he will likely hold on to for the remainder of the year.

    ReplyDelete
  45. You're half right, Peter.

Not the fastest time in the world anymore.

Still the fastest in the NCAA this year.

    I'll correct this.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Anybody that thinks the sanctions UA received from Memphis didn't hurt is smoking some serious stuff....

    ReplyDelete
  47. Nope THT..I have the wifi only version.

    ReplyDelete
  48. FSJ - dude likes to rant, and believes SC was divinely created.. And his job is to get people to call in. I heard 20 scholarships on the radio this morning. If that's true, that's going to hurt pretty bad. Also no postseason play.

I mean AU folks know what you can do on the first year of a probation, so is it possible they could go undefeated. Sure they could with the help of that soft PAC-10 schedule. It's the 4 or five years afterward that are going to sting.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Did the 10.18 top Demps? I know they've been going back and forth. He's fast!

    ReplyDelete
  50. I agree mytommy..

20 scholarships will hurt in a big way.

    Not this year...but soon.

    ReplyDelete
  51. We national champs yet?

    ReplyDelete
  52. MYTD...
Was it the little Italian nut job Laurentino?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Actually, Utah are 2004 National Champions.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Go ahead and claim it.....We would. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  55. dang tootin'. i've got my 2004 NC memorabilia order on stand-by. :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yes it was ehyou.

You know that show used to be somewhat entertaining. But now all that Chris does is pick at Perry, and that gets tiresome to listen to. I can listen to Perry except when he goes off the deep end with anything USCw (oddly enough he doesn't get too crazy with the Steelers). And I love what Leo Mazzone did, but umm, yeah he has a hard time seeing issues outside of "his teams".

So I end up listening to news radio on the way in which repeats itself every 15 minutes. Which is tough because 7 of those minutes are commercials

    ReplyDelete
  57. FSJ obviously got the sense of humor of every other Bama fan in the state.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I've already had a Tennessee fan tell me today that we had no shot at USC in 2004. They were a "powerhouse".

I guess the 31-3 halftime lead in Knoxville that year wasn't "powerhouse" enough for him.

    ReplyDelete
  59. FSJ is the only sensible bammer alive.

    ReplyDelete
  60. For some reason I feel like goin' killin' me some Natzies

  61. "Every man under my command owes me 100 Nazi scalps!"

    ReplyDelete
  62. How about Illinois Nazis?

    ReplyDelete
  63. I hate Illinois Nazis

    ReplyDelete
  64. Maybe the PAC-10 commish knew what te sanctions were going to be a few weeks abck and made a move to get the 6 teams from the Big 12. If USCw goes on a 2yr bowl bann, that would hurt their conference cash flow. Bring in UT, OK and the others and you still have a great shot at landing someone in the BSC title game each year. USC, no shot for 2 yrs then the scholly reductions could keep them with no shot for @ 4 more years.

    Just a thought.

    ReplyDelete
  65. mtd beat me to it.

    ReplyDelete
  66. wtc, I don't think USC's probation has anything to do with it. It is much longer sighted than that. The expansion is all about creating a new network like the Big 10 network. It is all money.

From what I have read, it will really be two conferences. Two BCS bowl bids (they are requesting), no conference championship game. It will be the old PAC 8 and then the Arizona + Big 12 schools. The only thing done as a conference will be the TV deal.

    ReplyDelete
  67. especially those basterds from Illinois.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Which makes me wonder... what if the Big 12 survived, and the SEC formed a cable channel with them? I wonder how that would have worked.

    ReplyDelete
  69. WTC/Michael ...

I think the truth is somewhere in between.

WTC, I agree in that the USCw situation asked for a bolder move than Colorado and Utah. But each conference must have a long-term view, and it is all money driven.

Everyone keeps looking around the room, and now the eyes to Slive. What's he gonna do?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Sounds like it's about time for one of those Hitler parody videos where they take that scene from "Downfall" and change the subtitles.

    ReplyDelete
  71. bro - I'm sure it's already in the works.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Anonymous9:06 AM

So does my Username become reality after all this time?

    ReplyDelete
  73. It's a reality no matter what happens with this USC crap. We finished undefeated. There is literally nothing else that team could have done.

    ReplyDelete
  74. I don't think there is any chance of us being named National Champs, but it wouldn't give me any extra excitement if it did happen. I would, however, be glad to hang the banner and claim it.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Word. I wouldn't demand a ticker tape parade, but if I looked up and saw a flag or a banner in the stadium, I would nod slightly as a smile stretched across my face.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I have a question.....if Auburn is declared champs...does that mean I am a two time national champ this year...since I am a closet Auburn fan and all?

    :-)

    ReplyDelete
  77. Haha, your Crimson is showing, FSJ.

    ReplyDelete
  78. not sure how to respond to that FSJ.

should i be happy for you? imma let u finish.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Still just one, Faker.

Auburn fans, closet or otherwise, all hate UAT and don't celebrate anything they achieve...exept probation.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Or the clap. Whichever comes first.

    ReplyDelete
  81. 86 days til kickoff!!!

Toyota's internet is so slow, I'm going ahead with what hopefully will be a pre-emptive...

    ReplyDelete
  82. Apparently we now drop felony battery charges so a person can keep their legal immigration status.

Dont' believe me? I wouldn't either if I didn't just see it happen.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Auburn will NOT be named the national champions of 2004.
The title will just be vacated.
It would be useless to claim said title by Auburn people. We won the SEC, that is enough until we win the national championship on the field of play.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I'm not into backclaiming championships... I'll leave that to the bammers.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I say we claim the title "ir"regardless of what officially happens to the title. We finished ranked #2 and #1 cheated. The MNC is nothing more than a beauty contest. What happens in a beauty contest when the winner is found to have been a stripper?

I threw in the "ir" just in case some walmartians are reading.

Wake, it's a sad country we are living in right now.

    ReplyDelete
  86. It's a shame that the citizens have to give up rights to those who shouldn't have access to them.

    ReplyDelete
  87. In all seriousness I think we should claim it. No parades or rings are needed but a banner at the stadium and a "2004 National Champions" note in the official Auburn records is fine.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Didn't they get rings already anyway?

I thought I remembered something like that.

I agree on the banner though.

    ReplyDelete
  89. One of my favorite pastimes is making fun of bammers for their "13 championships". If we claim 2004, I will no longer fell I have the right to do so.

If we claim 2004, I think we should claim a half a dozen others.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Legal immigration status?

Here on a work permet, green card?

What was the deal, Wake, if you don't mind me asking?

    ReplyDelete
  91. Wake...I'm onl talking about celebrating a 2004 national championship if the NCAA decided for some reason to award it to us.

That's not gonna happen, so it's a non-issue, but if it did, I would have no problem claiming it.

    ReplyDelete
  92. wait, we're talking about strippers?

    ReplyDelete
  93. Mom and 16 year old son here as legal immigrants (she is married to an American), and are applying for citizenship. Son has prior battery conviction and pleaded guilty to a marijuana charge today. A month ago the son hit his mom, due to the previous battery conviction it was a felony. With a felony conviction, the son wouldn't be eligible.

The mom wants to drop the charges (even though the night of the incident she pleaded with me to make sure he gets locked up, because she was so scared of him), because if he gets deported there is no one in their home country to take care of him. I understand why she would want this, as his mother. But if he is going to batter his mother repeatedly, who won't he hit? His girlfriend? His kids?

    ReplyDelete
  94. Well, the state can still prosecute regardless of whether or not she withdraws her complaint. It sounds to me like he made his bed, time to go lie in it.

    ReplyDelete
  95. That sucks, Wake. Where is the American husband in all of this? Is he involved at all?

    ReplyDelete
  96. Thats the point Seanzie, the state dropped the charges.

I don't blame her for wanting them dropped, I blame the state for listening to her.

They were all set to go to trial, then the morning of the trial she said she wants them dropped. The judge even said he doesn't like circumventing the legal system for immigration reasons but its up the the SA.

The husband was very involved the night of the incident, but he wasn't at court today.

I feel bad for the mom honestly, she is stuck between a rock and a hard place. She has a bolt lock installed on her bedroom door so she can hide from the son when she is home alone with him. But you know how mom's are with their sons, don't know when to say when.

    ReplyDelete
  97. My dad would have beat me to an inch of my life if I ever came close to hitting my mother.

    ReplyDelete
  98. If I ever hit my mom I would be praying to be deported.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I know the feeling CHB. Deporting would be the best possible scenario along with being in protected custody.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Sounds like the kid just needs a good butt kicking.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Wake - I predict you or some of your fellow officers will be called out to their home again.

    ReplyDelete
  102. You'll love this from Pete Thamel...

Talked to former Bama coach Dennis Franchione, who dealt with USC-like NCAA penalties. "3 to 5-year process to get back to where you were."
    26 minutes ago via TweetDeck

    One question..How would Fran know?

    ReplyDelete
  103. How would he know is a good question. Plus he is wrong. It took longer than 3-5

    ReplyDelete
  104. What time is the USC press conference...or is there one?

    ReplyDelete
  105. One other thing...Congrats to Lane Kiffin.

    ReplyDelete
  106. FWIW, I would go along with others if the AP voted again and gave AU the title for 2004. The BCS will just vacate it. They will not 'award' it to anyone else.
FSJ-you can claim it since you are a closet AU fan. It will put you closer to #13 than you really are.

    ReplyDelete
  107. There is a press conference but no time was given.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Thanks wtc..

I'm gonna party like it is 2004 all over again.

    ReplyDelete
  109. TTU HCTT on ESPN now

  110. So the Pac-10 won't just add Colorado. Who is next?

    ReplyDelete
  111. Welcome to habotn tarheeltiger.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Although a banner would look pretty cool, I don't need it. Both times we got hosed ('83 & '04) we beat UA-T. That's enough for me.

    ReplyDelete
  113. thanks ehyou. Sooner or later I'll log out of this alter ego and get back to my old self.

    ReplyDelete
  114. You mean Dr. HABOTN?

    ReplyDelete
  119. Your other peeps were just here THT.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I've read that CU is strapped for cash. Since they bolted and there has been no vote to dissolve the Big 12, will they owe $10 million (ir)regardless of what eventually happens?

I wonder what kind of buyout exists for ACC schools.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Texas A&M to the SEC?

  122. SEC needs more Texas in its diet.

    ReplyDelete
  123. If you snooze you lose. Slive took a hand full of sleeping pills and is now resting very well thank you.
Tuberville,as reported above was on ESPN by phone and said Texas Tech would follow Texas, if they leave the Big 12, and be part of the mega west conferenc eastern div.

    ReplyDelete
  124. in case you're wondering, Auburn to College Station, TX is a 12 hr drive.

it's 15 hrs plus from me in Knoxville. THT would have to fly.

    ReplyDelete
  125. it's only 6 hrs to Baton Rouge.

    ReplyDelete
  126. 10 second walk from the kitchen to my couch. No lines for the facilities. A comfortable game-time temp of 73 degrees and a slight breeze when the fan is going.

    ReplyDelete
  128. how funny would it be if Slive gave the Pac-10 a big middle finger & grabbed TX, TAMU, Baylor, & TX Tech?

    i hate the Pac-10.

    ReplyDelete
  129. 1250 mile drive from here to College Station. That's 250 more than my daily max. I might watch it from my sofa in the basement.

    ReplyDelete
  130. UA and AU to the east if the Texas foursome come on over?

    ReplyDelete
  131. the East would be pretty brutal

    ReplyDelete
  132. I've been to College Station. Ok town. Cool campus. They make a helluva bonfire.

    ReplyDelete
  133. AU could handle it, Scottie B. I was thinking about the carnage at UA-T. They never played UT, GA, FL, and AU every year.

    ReplyDelete
  134. SFC - why are you trying to further lower the IQ in Washington DC by doing this?

    ReplyDelete
  135. Not sure how difficult it would be to verify, but I heard that the Big 10 payouts for tv, actually meant that Indiana brought in more revenue from tv than Texas, or any single team in the SEC.

No wonder folks want to bolt from the big (soon to be tiny) 12

    ReplyDelete
  136. That's not actually accurate. The Big 10 network is all of Indiana's media distribution. The SEC gets a distribution from the TV deal with ESPN, plus they retqin their media rights. Florida makes a TON of money more than Indiana in total TV rights.

    ReplyDelete
  137. MYTD, the conference payout in the big 11 is more than the SEC, but each school in the SEC still has their own media rights. I just heard on the radio that the walmartians brought in an additional $9mil last year. I did not hear a report on AU.

    ReplyDelete
  138. yeah, what PF said.

    ReplyDelete
  139. It's also important to remember that they have 1 less team to split the money with.
