Auburn goes into the third dimension

Hey everyone. ESPN announced this morning that the Auburn-Clemson game scheduled for will be televised on their new 3D channel.

I don't have ESPN 3D available to me on Dish Network. I'm curious to hear if you all have access to it.

I am not into this 3D fad. Who cares?

Here is the important portion of the release:
AUBURN—Marking the first time ever an Auburn sporting event will be
televised in 3D, the Auburn football game against Clemson on Sept. 18
will air on ESPN 3D. The game will also be broadcast on ESPN with
kickoff slated for 6 p.m CT.

ESPN was the first to announce in the United States an exclusive 3D
network in January 2010 which was the culmination of more than three
years of testing 3D television.

The Auburn-Clemson game will be the third college football game to air
on ESPN 3D this season, and just the fourth football college game ever
to be broadcast in 3D.

Fans interested in viewing the game in 3D, must have ESPN 3D service
and a 3D television.

  3. i just have to save up my unemployment checks and quit paying the mortgage and other bills (except directv and power), quit eating and i'll be all set. i'll probably be at the game do dvr service has to stay too.

  6. I should have Vizios.

I've been real happy with my LG.

    My Samsung? Eh.

  7. I don't understand this 3D stuff.

    Geez, I sound like I am 95.

The 3D tech doesn't look ready for prime time to me yet. The 3D signal is probably available on FIOS but who cares? Plus $120 for the glasses doesn't sit well either.

I also like my Vizio from Costco. Great picture at a good price.

  9. I have a mighty fine Sony Bravia LCD HD, sadly it's not 3D. I'll wait until they fine-tune the technology before I give it serious consideration. Making you pay $120+ for each and every pair of the blasted glasses is unconscionable. They should throw in a single pair for no extra charge, there's plenty of profit margin built in to absorb that. I don't appreciate being nickel and dimed to death.

  10. Hey, Hotties!

May we can get Best Buy or Cohens in Montgomery to host a tail gate party to demonstrate their 3D's. I see some good marketing possibilities for somebody.

However, movie 3D gives me a headache.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Enjoy my Vizio also. As previously stated, I won't even consider 3D as long as the glasses are over a hundred a pair, probably not until they're under 30 for that matter. If I want 3D I'll go to the game, its cheaper.

    ReplyDelete
  12. If the 3D is Avatar quality, then totally awesome.

If it is every other 3D that I have ever seen, then no thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Sorry....long-timer lurker who posts beyond sporadically.

Did anyone else see the blurb about Wesley Person getting fired from Enterprise State after one year? Apparently the AD didn't even meet in person (hah!) with him.

Has to be more to this story..

  14. I envision all of the folks that currently have 3-D tv suing the creators of this technology in about 6 months due to the fact that the technology results in everyone that watches it becoming cross eyed. It will be similar to what brought Navin Johnson's (aka Steve Martin) eyeglass gripper dynasty down in "The Jerk". HD is just fine for my viewing standards.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oh, and I still don't even own a high def TV (or a TV larger than 22 inches for that matter), so whoever is in charge of these 3D decisions probably does not care what I think.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Anonymous12:25 PM

3D in most movies to date has been just a shock gimmick to make you jump. Avatar is the first I've seen that the 3D just made things look normal and enhanced the appearance of the movie without any gimmicks.

    ReplyDelete
  17. "Hey man come over and watch the game I've got 3D."
"What? No, I've only got one pair, they're expensive."
" We can trade out every other series."

    ReplyDelete
  18. swannie.....welcome.

i heard Person got canned but i didn't hear any details. yeah, sounds fishy.

    ReplyDelete
  19. If somebody wants to see a game in 3D, perhaps they could, oh I don't know, go to the game? Just a thought. (Not trying to hack off any of you 3D TV folks, I'm sure it's a cool technology, I just don't see the need with HD now.)

    ReplyDelete
  20. exactly Baldy.

but when they start making some of these late nite Cinemax shows in HD....well, just give me a call then, ok?

    ReplyDelete
  21. nice! love me some Diaz!

  22. Swannie - this Person thing is weird. If its a personnel matter, we may never know anymore about it than we do now.

  23. Former Gus Bus hopeful Jeremiah Masoli will apparently enroll at Ole Miss. All but a done deal according to the site below.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm still relishing the transition from 1D to 2D. That is as far as I am willing to go at this time.

    ReplyDelete
  25. We all know when the 5th Dimension comes around, it will be the Age of Aquarius.

    ReplyDelete
  26. In honor of Masoli, every fan should rise when he takes the field and pretend to smoke a doobie for 1 minute in his honer.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ole Nutt is needing a new mascot anyway. Why not the Ole Nutt Doobies?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Anonymous1:54 PM

Once it got out that Nutt was considering "hiring" Masoli, he was in a no win situation. Fans will complain whether hire takes him or not. Given Nutt's QB quandary, he needs to throw a hail Mary and Masoli is it.

What is the over-under on how many months before Masoli screws up?

    ReplyDelete
  29. If he's the starter, I say he doesn't screw up.

If he isn't the starter, I say he screws up by October 5.

    ReplyDelete
  30. We had a high profile doobiebacker under Tuberville. I can't recall the name. It was something like Jamarcus Russell. Tuberville kicked him so far he may never be seen again. Nutt seems to be taking the opposite approach and embracing his doobness.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Note to Nutt: They call them dope heads for a reasons!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I don't know anyone with a 3D TV.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I will never be ready for 3D. Anyone who likes it, fine, I just won't take part now or later.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Have the Braves lost yet today?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hey Dork...
    It's 4-3 Nats rain delay 6th.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Heard this line on the radio earlier today:

"Auburn and Clemson are playing in 3D so it will look like they have more depth".

I would say that it probably came from a bammer, but it was a bit too clever for that.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Anonymous2:40 PM

Auburn coach Gene Chizik will be live on the Paul Finebaum radio show at 5:35pm CDT.

Never thought this would happen. I wonder what tack PF will take to slam Chiz after he gets off the air. PF will definitely chase Chiz to get him to comment on the 2004 MNC.

Come to think of it, this is a good move by CGC to run the interview until the end of the broadcast. PF won't be able to stir up his Bammer minions to slam CGC as much the next day.

    ReplyDelete
  38. ehyou - I ain't no stinkin' dork.

ScoCho - that's kind of funny to me.

3D TV ...uh ...no. I hated Avatar in 3D.

I'm just now giving in and buying the large HDTV and getting the service. I gonna blame it on the new SEC football TV affiliations. I need ESPNU, FSS, CSS, etc. and the most economical way to do all of that is with the total service.

If Ms. Hoopie asks ..that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Baldy - I can't wait to watch the AU-CU game in 3D, from my seat in J-H.

LGGB and I visited my 95 year old "Mama II" in Burlington. She's still hilarious and still one of the kindest humans ever, even though her short term memory is no more than about 10 seconds. It was a real treat for us... so much so that I forgot to pick up the Hursey's barbecue.

  41. Braves game has resumed.

    ReplyDelete
  42. the only think i have ever seen in 3D that looked cool was the airplane scene in SUPERMAN RETURNS where he saves the day. that was amazing. everything else i've ever seen just looks blurry. eh.

    ReplyDelete
  43. sweet. it was still in a delay, down 3-4 when i checked last.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I watched the newest Shrek in 3D at the movies and was not impressed with 3D.

I also can't tell much of difference between 3D and a good LED/LCD.

My big thing is that I don't want to sit in my house and watch things with big glasses on my head.

    ReplyDelete

  46. My daughter and I saw Avatar 3D in Troy over Christmas primarily as a means to get out of the in-law's house. Technologically, I really enjoyed it but that's it. I don't need to be preached to by Hollywood and the likes of James Cameron.

    Keep Hate Alive.

  47. Shane from Centerpoint is a freakin genius, as evidenced by this epic literary creation. You can't argue with logic like that.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I hear if you wear the goofy 3D multi-color glasses while actually watching the game at the stadium, it will open a black hole from which no one will escape. I'm going to look on Snopes.com to see if this is just one of those nasty internet rumors or if there's any truth to it.

Kiffen quote to the New York Times

“You can trade the bottom 20 guys or 25 guys on your roster for a great quarterback,”

So ...I guess as long as he has a good QB, he can win championships with only 60 schollys?

    The boy won't quit talking

    ReplyDelete
  51. ehyou - it all comes back to $aban with that jacklick doesn't it? My thought in reading it was that if given the opportunity, both Shane and PFeinbaum would allow $aban to do really unspeakably disgusting things to them if $aban just gave them that "come hither" look.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Anonymous3:14 PM

ehyou ...that read from Shane is just more proof that he is a typical Bammer ...which means he is .. biased to the point of delusional.

BTW ...we gotta talk about this. going on Al.com is pretty bad, bt what in the wide world of sports are you doing on Shane's site?

I've seen folks banhammered for less.

    ReplyDelete
  53. can you watch the braves on the internet no tv at work but the boss is gone

    ReplyDelete
  54. I am disappointed that Nutt has apparently chosen to shop in another schools trash for a quarterback. Nothing says excellence like shopping in the trash.

On the other hand, Nutt is still the SEC coach most likely to get the Jack Nicholson role in a remake of "The Shining", so he has that going for him.

    ReplyDelete
  55. If I want to see a game in 3D, I will go to it.

Jet - My bad bro. I just didn't see you I guess. You should have hit me up side the head with a biscuit.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I had heard Paul mention that Shane was now a "writer" and was curious. He didn't disappoint...he was just as ridiculous as I expected him to be.

    Nope.

  62. I talked to a colleague in Oregon today who said that the local DA might put the kabosh on Masoli's transfer since he might have already violated his probation (presumably by leaving the state without permission).

Comes down to how vindictive this local DA wants to be. Might be better for them to let this one man crime spree depart than to keep him around....

  70. Phred, do you mind? We're trying to talk about the Braves.

    ReplyDelete
  71. get Felipe Alou back with the Braves!

    ReplyDelete

That article is disgusting. You've got some nerve posting that here for all these decent folks to read.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I was returning from the ham yesterday and heard mindbomb on the radio. It is the first time I have heard him since he went national and was struck by the change in the quality of callers. I found it refreshing.

But then reality set in when Bill Joe Bob called in saying there is no way Auburn should be awarded the 2004 national title because even without Bush, USC would have won by at least three touchdowns if they had played Auburn.

Amazed at his thorough knowledge of what would happen in a game that was never played, I listened closely as he pointed out that maybe the top 20 should be re-arranged and Utah should be given the national title.

That was an amazing thought. I mean, I was once dumb enough to think that if the number 1 team in the nation was ruled ineligible, the number 2 ranked team should get the title. Now, after listening to this guy I wasn't sure. After all, if he truly is able to determine the results of games that were never played, shouldn't we just go by what Billy Joe Bob thinks to decide the national title?

But then another strange thought crossed my mind. Hey, Billy Joe Bob hadn't revealed his college of choice. Could it be that Billy Joe Bob was a USC fan? Hmmm, he has a southern accent. But what southern fan would care what was going on at Auburn and be willing to display his psychic ability on the radio. Is this guy psychic or is this guy an idiot. He provided the answer in his final two words, "Roll Tide".

    ReplyDelete
  80. ehyou and SFC, I must respectfully ask...what the hell is wrong with you two?

    ReplyDelete

  85. Finebaum is national now? Why?

    ReplyDelete
  86. Being that I don't live in Alabama and don't get Finebaum(nor would I want to listen) I thought I would ask...did he get into it with David Pollack last week? Pollack does a radio show here in Atlanta and they were giving Finebaum hell last week.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Finebaum loves to stir the pot, so I think it likely. Finebaum is pure entertainment and really has little to do with actual sports. He is more about the drama and doesn't seem to have that much actual knowledge of football.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I love it that people know how stupid i am.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Michael - nice job! I lost track of the post count while trying to find an affordable and safe place for 2.0 to stay for 2 weeks in NYC. Yes, I realize that's an oxymoron, which is why it's taking me so long.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Anonymous6:11 PM

Finebaum got picked up by XM-Sirius satellite radio several months ago. The # of national callers is growing quickly and his normal Bammer minions are getting squeezed out. The show is improving accordingly.

He just interviewed CGC and has interviewed around 30 coaches already this summer.

He still looks for a target to poke at just to raise hackles and provoke callins, but is morphing into a better show. His primary target now seems to be to convince the SEC that Richt is on the hot seat. Last year he tried to convince the football world that Meyer was going to ND.

PF is obvious about his schtick ....Moon in Montgomery is worse because he is lame and says irrational stuff just to try to get someone to notice him.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Moon who?

Oh, sorry about that. I forgot.

    ReplyDelete
  97. i am now hating bammer from my iPhone. mini hate but still hate

    ReplyDelete
  98. After wondering around aimlessly today I realized that the Braves had better save all there runs for the games Lowe pitches in or he won't win another game this year. I believe every game he has won was because of the generous run production when he is on the mound. They can send him back from whence he came far as I am concered.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Is moon hating on Auburn again? I can't believe the MA hired him.

    ReplyDelete

BTW, I heard the delay on the statue for Saban was an argument between Shane and Fbomb as to what position they are in with that statue.

  119. SO a juco guy (plays LB)asked for his release from USCw and was refused. He is an incoming player for this season. After they refused, the kid hired a lawyer and they were to have the hearing over the matter until USCw relented after the lawyer was hired. This was to be his 5th school in 5 years. This leaves USCw few LB's on scholly. Here is what the ESPN reporter wrote:

    (Pullard is an incoming freshman)

Pullard could redshirt, which would leave USC with seven scholarship players -- and only five lettermen -- for the three spots (LB), an unusually low amount.

AU would gladly have taken that many last year.

  138. unfortunately the #s coming off is the last thing you'll see. the strength/endurance always comes first. at least you've seen some good improvements. you're headed in the right direction for sure.

  139. Way to go Cincy! Unfortunately life happened and my husband and I had to stop our 3 mile 4:00 a.m. walk 2 weeks ago when he got the pinched nerve in his back. He started physical therapy last week, so hopefully we can get back to it soon. At least it did help me lose 7 pounds. I start my game-day training on Sunday, August 1st. Got to get ready for all that walking and the heat that we will definitely have in Auburn in September.

    ReplyDelete
  140. The Bell link apparently takes me to a recap of the 2009 media days?

    ReplyDelete
  141. Way to go, Kathy! 7 pounds is awesome! I have been so pleased to make it through this month without hurting something enough that I had to stop. I am not looking forward to those hot days in Sept. You can come by the condo to cool off!

  142. API,
That is the correct story. I thought I was in the wrong place too at first.

  143. Finebaum's been bashing ATL radio shows for years. Just a jerk being a jerk.

Slimebaum wallows around in filth, finds an acorn every now ...and then will crow incessantly about that acorn.

David Pollack is sometimes deranged, but is straight up.

The few times I've turned on The Fan all I hear is a bunch of whiny yankees discussing pro sports .........yawn.

  145. When the moon is in the seventh house, and Jupiter aligns with Mars, then Auburn will go undefeated.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Michael, if I'm not mistaken, those things happen this year. But, it might be the orange colored glasses I am peering through :)

    ReplyDelete
  147. so all that constellational alignment happens this year!?!

    ReplyDelete
  148. Then, we'll all go ballroom dancing. Or not.

    ReplyDelete
  149. If not for ballroom dancing, what would we be? Savages, that's what.

    ReplyDelete
  150. If I'm aware of ballroom dancing but do not participate, am I then a savage?

    ReplyDelete
  151. Better to be a savage than a crimpson turd.

    ReplyDelete
  152. WOOOOO HOOOOO football!!!!!

Got an update from the Bleacher Report (yeah I signed up for those) about a RB kid that grew up an Auburn fan, blah blah blah, whatever. My point: we're recruiting HS sophomores and juniors now?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  153. What is it 5 or 6 days to fall practice? Just WOW!

    ReplyDelete
  154. I hope Penn State has some real good practices. Come on JoePa, whip them boys into shape!

    ReplyDelete
  155. Anonymous9:30 AM

Recruiting Sophomores is just wrong, but if all the other guys are doing it ...ya have to. This does not mean that multiple wrongs make it right.

The NCAA would have to be the one to correct this.

  157. I am glad people around here check my blog. Not even my own family checks my blog.

Quick question: for those who "follow" me, do you get like ten notices that I have a new post when I edit something ten times?

    ReplyDelete
  158. MJT - it shows up once on my Google Reader when you've added something. I don't get no stinking edit notices.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Michael - I follow it unofficially, so I don't get any official notices.

    ReplyDelete
  160. thighmaster...
    quick answer: no

    ReplyDelete
  161. Thanks for the link, THT. Where is Courtney Taylor these days?

    ReplyDelete
  162. ChocoScott...
He's currently a free agent. I guess that's a nice way to say unemployed.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Aromashodu should have a chance do some stuff this year with Martz taking over the O.

    ReplyDelete
  164. I know Courtney Taylor was diagnosed with MS a while back. I wonder if that's scaring teams off. I hope not.

    ReplyDelete
  165. chip chip is also a free agent

    ReplyDelete
  166. Yep, been there, done that recently. Fun times.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Man, at this rate we won't flip this page until tomorrow. Today is so slow that I just found some excitement in creating invoice number 1716. Unfortunately, I don't think it was for a bammer.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Alright, back from lunch. Now to catch up on all the posts...

    ...hey, wait a minute.

    ReplyDelete
  169. ehyou - you're a slow reader, you'll catch up eventually.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Speaking of invoices, earlier this month I had a client (school supt) hand me a check for almost $1 mil and say:

"Now I wouldn't try to cash that 'till next Thursday."

I kinda laughed but it turned out he was serious.

  171. Norm...
It's so slow today I don't even mind reading your comments.

  172. Goldberg says the practice schedule is out. I believe him.

  173. i'm collaborating with some investors and looking to move into ownership. i hope my playing days are over.

  174. Anonymous12:29 PM

I see that we have 4ea. 2-a-days and that the players have no practice the next day.

UGA is doing no 2-a-days. The theory is that with the limited amount of practices coupled with less learning perceived to happen, that 2-a-days doesn't work.

That theory probably has some good logic, but seems to me the "gutcheck" accomplished during 2-a-days must be experienced, not learned.

  175. i came across my 2004 SI preseason from 2004 the other day. AU was ranked 13 going in. funny to see how up the rear of uscw & petey SI was that year.

the best part was the article on the 77-0 aTm took at the hand of oklahoma in 2003. an excerpt (with some minor alterations) on fran's jilting of the meth cookers:

"his decision to forsake the cousin humpers so upset one turd that he wrote franchione an unsigned email threatening to 'gut him like a deer" if ever he returned to the state. it was only one of 6000 peices of hate mail that franchione received the week after he left for college station. in another message a man who dared to identify himself said he hoped to see a&m's plane crash with franchione his staff and their family members on it. he added that he hoped there would be no survivors. some of the correspondence with a threatening tone was turned over to the fbi, as mike mckenzie, a&m's liason for external operations. 'the emails still come, even now," he says. 'you read them and think, what kind of human being writes this sort of thing? dennis franchione is a football coach."

how many of you wrote threatening letters to any former AU coach no matter how bad he was?

that part of the article should be turned over to every recruit in the country. if they will turn on a coach like that. they will turn on a player just as, if not, quicker.

    ReplyDelete
  176. Agreed on the "gutcheck logic". They are supposedly going to be spending additional time in film study rather than running around on the field. We'll know soon enough, but I bet they'll be wishing they had done a little more work on the field come the 4th quarter against So Carolina on Sept 11. What good does it do you if you know where you're supposed to be on the field, but can't get there because you got nothing left?

    ReplyDelete
  177. didn't AU take a "low contact" approach in preseason in 2008? the idea was to not get players hurt. how did that work out?

    ReplyDelete
  178. if i was fran, i would now take every one of the 6000+ pieces of correspondence-with names included-and put them on a website for the world to read. it would have to be disturbing and comic gold at the same time.

    ReplyDelete
  179. I sure wish Franchione had stayed.

    ReplyDelete
  180. 2008 isn't a fair comparison imo. That debacle was much more than a conditioning issue.

    ReplyDelete
  181. If Franchione had stayed, we would have missed out on Shula. I really enjoyed Shula.

    ReplyDelete
  182. I've tried to purge the '08 season from my memory. But, as I recall, I put a minimum 3 losses squarely on the shoulders of the coaching staff however it existed that particular week.

    ReplyDelete
  183. absolutely, but tackling started suffering that year. i heard the "you play how you practice." statement a lot. i'm pretty sure those days are over. the AU d will be back and in short order.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Hopefully coach Yox has the conditioning part of things taken care of. Go outside, work out for a couple of hours in 100 degree heat, and see if doesn't take a gut check.

I do think two-a-days is something that will disappear eventually, although it has played important roles in the past. I remember hearing about the players that quit when Dye arrived, some who were contributors the previous season.

I don't think that little contact in practice reduces injuries significantly. Sure, you may have fewer injuries at practice, but you then see more show up during games, at least in my opinion.

Football conditioning is like any other conditioning. You build yourself up gradually and don't go all out the first day. If you have been setting on the coach for the last 20 years and decide you are going to get in shape by running 10 miles in 100 degree temperatures you could do more harm than good, including assuming room temperature.

    ReplyDelete
  185. Agreed. It will be nice to see the hard nosed defenses of old return as this WAC type defense AU displayed for much of last year was the cause of way too much angst for this fan.

    ReplyDelete
  186. In 2008 it wasn't the conditioning that was a problem. It was discontinuity in the staff. The season fell apart when Franklin was fired. We would have likely won 2 or 3 more games if that hadn't occurred. You don't change coaches in mid stream. You make the changes after the season.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Paul Rhoads had a different tackling philosophy than Chizik and Muschamp. It wasn't wrong, but it was different. We were going to have an adjustment period. That being said, I thought we were pretty solid most of the season in 2008 on defense until our offense disappeared.

    ReplyDelete
  188. i would count the d as "solid" against ulamo & usm.

the o disappeared in a 3-2 win at starkvegas week 3.

that meant the d was playing the entire game and having to score the points soon after (see ut).

    ReplyDelete
  189. not solid, that is.

    ReplyDelete
  190. Last year was just weird. I read on here yesterday about USCw concerned because they only had 5 scholarship LBs. We basically played with 3 or 4 LBs in most games last season, and usually at least one was a walk on. You don't necessarily have to have 3 deep at linebacker, but more than 2 deep is required. With three linebacker spots, you are likely to play half a dozen linebackers a game at least.

    ReplyDelete
  191. kiffykin needs to save the excuses for when they really don't have any scholly players in a few year.

    ReplyDelete
  192. The 3-2 game against MSU was more because of us shooting ourselves in the foot. Penalties repeatedly killed drives. I don't recall the exact number, but I think we had around 15 penalties.

    ReplyDelete
  193. I am listening to a previous episode of ITAT and some Billy Bob called in predicting Auburn will be undefeated in 2010. He is buying into the Cam is big and can run BS. He may turn out great, but a lot needs to fall into place with this team. I saw similar excitement over Burns. There were people convinced Cox should be lynched and Kodi was our savior until reality struck. Yes, Kodi is a great runner, but if you can't make smart decisions and pass the ball, it doesn't matter how good you are as a runner at QB. It doesn't matter at all.
