Auburn lands six on the Preseason All-SEC team

Hey everyone. I'm headed to the Montgomery Kiwanis Club meeting momentarily (Thanks, Phred!) and I'll be joined there by Ted Roof. Should be fun.

The news at this hour is that six AU players are on the coaches' Preseason All-SEC team. Here they are:

FIRST-TEAM OFFENSE
LT Lee Ziemba (legit)

SECOND-TEAM OFFENSE
WR Darvin Adams (behind AJ Green and Julio Jones; legit)
C Ryan Pugh (behind Mike Pouncey; legit)

FIRST-TEAM DEFENSE

MLB Joshua Bynes (should be on the same team with Stevens)

SECOND-TEAM DEFENSE

SLB Craig Stevens (should be on the same team with Bynes)
CB Neiko Thorpe (legit)

** SOMEWHAT RELATED NOTE (has to do with an Auburn player): Zac Etheridge just finished his diagnostic MRI in Birmingham. He's meeting with doctors today to make a final determination on his fitness.

** UNRELATED NOTE: Dont'a Hightower on the first-team defense? Seriously?

  4. Hightower...that's a little uncalled for at this point. I guess they are giving Saban the first team award.

  5. I can see Adams behind AJ Green, but not Jones.

  7. RK, Adams will get the recognition he deserves when the gets the kind of receiving yards Jones had.

  8. Dang it, RK!!! I provided the set. Where's the spike?

  11. Have I ever said pre-season "all this or that" teams are stupid. Of course I have. And I'll say it again. Pre-season all-SEC teams are stupid. They haven't played a down.

Of course, if we're going to talk about stupid, we've got to include this UNC footballer:

    link 2

  12. These UNC players should be given the Deron Furr award.

    Austin, what were you thinking?!?!

  14. wtc...from the last thread. Thanks for not posting the result of today's stage in le Tour. Looking forward to watching what was surely an epic race.

As for yesterday's mess, we're in a total agreement. I understand with just a little over 20 km that the racing decorum starts to reach a gray area, but you're right, for Contador to act like he didn't see Schleck's mechanical problem was beyond disingenuous. He saw and accelerated as soon as he did.

And you're right. Even down thirty seconds, Contador was still a big favorite given his time trialing ability, even if wearing the yellow jersey probably would have made Schleck perform beyond his means. Now's he's alienated much of the press and the fans, even if some of his fellow cyclists say he wasn't in the wrong. But again, the core of the issue is that he acted like he wasn't aware of Schleck's problems when he obviously was.

    Okay, back to Auburn football.

  15. Bwahahahaha, that is hilarious, THT. See, Twitter does serve a purpose. It allowed him to basically shoot himself in the head.

  16. I am getting all football hyped and media days isn't until tomorrow. I need some slobber knocking!!!

  17. i'm listening to ITAT radio. helps ease the pain.

  18. Rumor out of T-town is the Hightower has his hand out looking to be greased. Making flippant statements about his credit being "fixed" next month and somebody paying off his truck. I also understand that he wants to move into some classier digs for his last year.

  19. The SEC really needs an on demand channel. I am sick of trying to find SEC teams on the Big10 network.

    ReplyDelete
  20. API, I don't understand players like that. They know the consequences to their football program and their legacy at a school. What is Reggie Bush best known for now?

    ReplyDelete
  21. hey, do you all want to pitch in to help Hightower out? i mean, come on, the kid needs some love....and we need Bama on probation!!!!!!!

    let's make this happen!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Screw that. I want Bama at their best when we kicked their butts!!!

You beat me to it. No excuses!

Scottie that's a great idea to sabotage Hightower. Only problem I see is that the money needs to appear to come from a Bama Booster.

Now which Hottie is willing to take one for the team and pose as a Bammer Booster to the NCAA?

    ....crickets?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Screw that. I want Bama decimated every chance possible. I want their football team to be so pitiful they want to abandon the sport.

    ReplyDelete
  26. oh....i don't wanna appear as a Bama booster. can't do that.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hoopie I believe that would have to be FSJ's job.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Even with the iPhone issues, he's still gotta have some cash layin around, right?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Steve sorry I missed the set up, I had left to go get some lunch.

So Adams needs to cut his yards and TD's in half and he'll be able to make the 1st team like Julio?

mtd ...good idea. 'bout time we found a good use for that ol' Bammer.

Bama hatin' talk calls for a quick avatar change.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I knew there was a reason to have FSJ around here. Here is his opportunity to shine.

  32. Etheridge's facebook says he got clearance to play this year.

    ReplyDelete
  33. So glad to hear that Zac is cleared to play this season!

    ReplyDelete
  34. RK, yea, that is the theory, anyways.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anonymous1:16 PM

Heck ...It won't have to cost FSJ anything. I'm sure the rest of us can scrape up enough cash to get Hightower in trouble.

    I'm in.

  36. Jay G. tweeted the news about Etheridge a while ago, so it must be true. It is good to see.

  37. Hoopie,

I just couldn't make myself to act or dress like any of them in order to become a fake booster.

  38. Baldy must not be subscribing to my Twats. Shame for him or her.

    CONGRATS T-ZAC!!!!!

Dangit, now I gotta go..work calls.

    hasta luego

    ReplyDelete
  40. I do consider Etheridge being bask as huge, even if he isn't quite back to normal. They players obviously love and respect the guy. Didn't some guy named Tate wear an Etheridge jersey in a game last season?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Anonymous1:21 PM

RK ..just clarify. I'm only in on the donatin'. I can't handle no Bammer posin' either.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I don't know that it would be hard to act like a member of the Redneck Elephant Club, although knocking one of your wives teeth out might be a problem.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oops. Never done twitter. I'm behind the times. I will now have to make Mr. Tate my first twitterer.

    ReplyDelete
  44. There is only one TWAT I subscribe to, and its not JG's.

    ReplyDelete
  45. That's your loss, API.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Twitter is a great way to get news quick and it is good for people like Jay to be able to update us quickly without having to right a short blog saying Etheridge is eligible.

    Hightower's stats from 2009. http://www.secsports.com/sport_stats/football/ua.htm#team.def

    5 Tackles Solo
11 Assisted (which most NFL GMs will dispute - see R. McClain)
    1 Sack.
    1 Pass Deflection
    1 Quarterback "hurry"

That's 1st Team SEC material? Really?

  48. Sensi, that's like one good game for Q Groves a couple of years ago.
