This week, has been a busy week for Anthony and his family. Coach Chizik and Coach Malzhan arrived at Brantley High School around 3PM yesterday (01/23/09), and spent a hour meeting with the family and re-affirming there committment to Anthony Gulley.

Anthony, takes his final recuiting trip today and tomorrow, at Troy University, and plans to make his final committment and sign next Wednesday at Brantley High School.

With that being said, as for our situation with Coach Willis, he was considered a friend of the family, it wasn’t until this past Tuesday, that he almost ruined any chance of AU signing Anthony.

Coach Willis, mislead, Anthony, his parents, and Coach Lowery (Brantley HS Coach) and did not give them the proper information about the university's stance on his offer.

I recieved a phone call of Anthonys parents on Wednesday night, and both me and my father, decided to make a effort to contact AU directly, before they decided to write Auburn off there list.

Within, hours of Thursday morning, Coach Perry, Coach Chizik, Coach Trooper, and Coach Malzhan reasurred us of their committment to sign Anthony, and planned to visit him Friday afternoon.

AU Coaches kept their word, and did more than we had expected. Everyone, at AU, was helpful, and polite. But, the final decision will come down to Anthony.

The family has no ill feeling toward Coach Willis, but do not want Coach Willis to contact them, nor do they need to hear Coach Willis's explaination.

When we told the AU Coaches on Thursday morning, of what Coach Willis had relayed to our family. The AU Staff, seemed shocked, on what Coach Willis was doing. We actually felt bad for AU, as we believe that they are great coaches, but greater individuals.

Anthony is a very good boy and a extremely hard worker, with a difficult childhood. He embodies the character that we want people to know in our family. If you ever see us with Anthony, you will understand what I mean. Anthony has had big dreams, but many setbacks in life, everyone in our family will do anything possible to see those dreams come true.

If anyone has any questions, I will be happy to answer them, but I will not engage in verbel warfare over schools, I can only answer what applies to us and how the family were treated.

Anthony has narrowed his list down to 2 or 3 schools, and will make his final decision at Brantley High School on Wednesday. It will be a great day for Anthony, our family, Brantley High School, the coaches at Brantley, the students, and the whole town of Brantley, to see one of their own commit.

If you would like to speak to me directly this includes Jay, with the validity of this statement, you can email me: stevenwallace36117@gmail.com, and I will email my cell# to discuss.

The family will not be taking any phone call til Monday, at that time, will dicuss Anthony's options.steven36117https://www.blogger.com/profile/15249632170939546246noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23235343.post-20950429349366265752009-01-21T12:08:00.000-06:002009-01-21T12:08:00.000-06:00Knox probably interviewed. No offense to them, but that class never turned out. Injuries, attrition, and bad luck doomed that class which was really ranked lower than we are now.

Relax people, getting a top 25 or better class (which we will), is a good thing. Theres not a lot of difference between the classes of teams ranked 10-25. Only a couple players who may or may not pan out. Our 2008 recruiting class wasn't great, but there are some players with a lot of potential. It was just a small class and I actually beleive it was designed to be that way. The responsibility for that certainly has to at least partially lie with Nall.

Anyone have an update on Chris Todd? I thought he was suppose to have surgery. The talent level at Auburn steadily declined under his watch. I think it safe to say our talent level under Bowden steadily declined.

This pretty much proves my previous point: Bowden's last two recruting classes in '97 and '98 were way below average; Tuberville's first class was only marginally better.

And yet we were SEC West Champions in 2000, with a team made up almost exclusively of players from those three classes.

It's senseless to assume that AU will underperform in '11 because our '08-'09 classes don't appear to be above average. It may indeed turn out that way, but right now you're just making an unsubstantiated guess.

Not trying to pick on you - it's just as pointless to predict that AU will be SEC Champs in '11.
