Changing head coaches typically means rebuilding a program. Recruits will leave as well as possibly current players. Marks and Coleman will likely now head to the NFL and Powers wouldn't surprise me either. Cotton has jumped ship. Terrence Coleman has also.

When changing head coaches, you have to expect at least a couple of down years. The change damages more than just the current team, it also damages recruiting relationships that will have to be rebuilt.

We aren't likely to see the success we had from 2004 to 2007 in the next couple of seasons. Getting a coach that is a good recruiter and can win with lesser talent might have us back to that level in the next 3 to 4 years. It is how the process works.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16460464224141986657noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23235343.post-77793758439863937682008-12-04T10:19:00.000-06:002008-12-04T10:19:00.000-06:00Pat Dye was 48-18 at East Carolina...so he was a p...Pat Dye was 48-18 at East Carolina...so he was a pretty successful HC before the Auburn job.WarEagleRKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08263137410167780991noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23235343.post-2054027483788536602008-12-04T10:18:00.000-06:002008-12-04T10:18:00.000-06:00JustWin, yes but he had been here ten years and th...JustWin, yes but he had been here ten years and things were going in the wrong direction, I don't think things in Lubbock are going in the wrong direction and I would think he could do better at a program like Auburn than at Texas Tech. Pat Dye wasn't a stellar coach before he came here, check out his record. Tommy Tuberville wasn't superman either. I would also say, the Big 12 South could be harder to win every year than the SEC West. Call me crazy but teams like Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Baylor and Oklahoma State is a tough schedule every year. When you're bottom of the barrel starting out and starting to edge some of these programs for recruits and wins, I think you've done an outstanding job.Seanziehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04835158656050064217noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23235343.post-61806676031888953332008-12-04T10:03:00.001-06:002008-12-04T10:03:00.001-06:00Mr. Sensible, Tuberville was one of the hot up and...Mr. Sensible, Tuberville was one of the hot up and coming coaches when he came in. Look at Bama under Curry. He was doing a very good job, but lost the support of the fans because he failed to beat some great Pat Dye teams, so Bama went through turmoil.

Fan attitude is likely also very visible to recruits. I believe in the value of positive thinking, not moaning over what ifs, and judging the next coach on what he does as a whole. A new coach means that we have to be patient enough to give him at least 4 years to prove himself, which is certainly a big cost compared to giving Tuberville one, but it is what it takes. If not, we will be on the coaching rollercoaster.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16460464224141986657noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23235343.post-32937652822257856722008-12-04T09:57:00.000-06:002008-12-04T09:57:00.000-06:00I think the fear of Leach is unfounded. They have done well and are always producing quality players and records. I know they aren't world beater records and Leach is goofy, but he plays in one of toughest divisions in college football where just about every other program has more resources and influence. He is not Auburn's traditional style but I don't think its fair to totally discount this man's ability to build a program.Seanziehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04835158656050064217noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23235343.post-21471282817114062212008-12-04T09:56:00.000-06:002008-12-04T09:56:00.000-06:00I don't know about anything with a unit behind the...I don't know about anything with a unit behind the next coach?

I might unite behind him.
