- He has been granted a release. He is free to transfer.
- Tommy Tuberville and Key Ramsey, Chaz's father, discussed the situation several times during the summer. At some point several weeks ago, Ramsey's release was made official. That is, he had/has the option of walking away from his Auburn scholarship and seeking a spot somewhere else.
- Ramsey is in school at Auburn right now.
- If Ramsey can't play again -- meaning his back injury is serious enough to end his career -- he can complete his Auburn education with his scholarship in tact. Ramsey wouldn't count against the team's 85-scholarship cap.
- If Ramsey can play again, he has two options:
- He can resume his career at Auburn
OR - He can transfer. In doing so, he would forfeit his Auburn scholarship. His new school likely would require him to pass a physical first. If he failed that physical, Ramsey could be in no-man's land: No team and no scholarship.
- He can resume his career at Auburn
UPDATE: Here is my brief-but-official story I posted to the Advertiser's site.
Thanks for the update.
ReplyDeleteA co-worker confirms that Chaz Ramsey was in classes with his daughter this past week at Auburn.
Oracle
I wish him the best in whatever he chooses and I hope he listens to the doctors. Football isn't worth a lifetime of pain or the risk of worse.
ReplyDeleteI am still confused on why? Is it strictly a decision that he can't play anymore due to pain? If so, why is a new school an option?
ReplyDeleteNot really sure how to address that one. Maybe one's person's opinion on "can't play anymore" is different than the next person's opinion.
ReplyDeleteMy friend's brother is also still attending classes at Auburn and not playing football. I am going to nickname him Chaz! Oh man, that will annoy him so much. "Hey, Chaz!" "Nice pants, Chaz!" "Way to get dumped by your girlfriend again, Chaz!" "We know you are the reason your parents got divorced, CHAZ!!!" And he'll be like, "Who is Chaz?" I can't tell him, because when you explain jokes, they aren't funny.
ReplyDeleteChaz is still a "Ding-Dong"
ReplyDeleteFor giving away things for "FREE"....Let me see if people get this joke!
ReplyDeleteHe hasn't given it away just yet.
ReplyDeleteWith the scenario you laid out, Jay. It seems like he should stay at Auburn. But there is alot of smoke going on and i'm guessing that fire is somewhere.
ReplyDeleteIf Ramsey doesn't return that leaves replacing our best and most consistent lineman, Tyrone Green, with someone with little or no experience. I'm guessing "Big Snacks" but maybe Bart Eddins. Combine that with having to replace a tackle we might be pretty weak on one side of the line, but we'll see.
I think we've all been expecting this.
ReplyDeleteJay,
Any news from Tub today at the QB club?
I know some people apparently don't want quotes from him, but I'm interested in what he said.
I definitely think there's a lot more going on than what we're hearing.
ReplyDeleteI just wish JGT would spill the beans... :)
As a courtesy, I don't quote Tommy when he's addressing the masses like that. I talk with him afterward if I have questions.
ReplyDeleteI had a few. You'll see those answers in Tuesday's story.
mobile, to quote CTF "I'm a dumbass" and as such don't get the joke.
