Say what you want to ... the players talk about a championship a lot. I like that. I don't remember that in the past either. Even if it is unrealistic, and who's to say it is, you have to have it as your goal. We think they can't do it. It's nice to hear that they think they can. What do we know?

Phred, the only area I can say LSU was clearly better was O-line. And moving forward they may be better at the QB position - depends on if Lee can continue the pace he left on the field during the AU game.
Look, Shoemaker absolutely killed Auburn that night. Killed 'em. You have bad night and you make bad plays. But nothing he did was legit that night.
You can point to Ziemba's huge brainfart. Players not lining up right. Busted plays. Luck. Blah blah blah. The bottom line in my book is AU got it handed to them from the coaching ranks at LSU and our punter nailed us to the ground.
LSU had a gameplan. Auburn did not. Auburn does not use its playmakers. Who doesn't?
Auburn was clearly the better team in the first half. But they were clearly outsmarted in the second half. That's coaching.And, or course, our lovely punter of the night.
Our defense wasn't anymore worn than theirs. We had them on their heels plenty. We had the right moments to put them away. But everything we heard in the preseason about what Otis could do with "all this talent" and talent's not a factor at Auburn offensively
Bottom line. You can't win championships playing not to lose. Tubs plays not to lose. And he loses, man. Plain and simple.
Some posters wanted positive spin today. Don't think it's deserved. LSU won the game. Period. And they left as the better team. And to your point, Phred, Auburn has the players to win championships. It just needs the coaches to step up.
i hate to disagree with mr. crudup, knowing he has greater access to info than i do stuck out here in tucson, but i believe that au's defense was gassed in the 2nd half--not from too much time on the field in the 1st half, but from too much time on the field against msu and so miss. lsu had two games against inferior competition and a postponed game. fresher legs resulted (although a bit of rust was exposed in the 1st half). my 2 cents worth (which, tomorrow, may buy you two shares in fannie mae), is that au showed up, played better than i expected and put on one whale of a show for espn. i disagree with several things the coaching staff did, but we were in position to win at the end. i don't think we're out of the running yet.
After rewatching the game, I thought Auburn played well. Tony franklin made a good move by calling plays from the booth. The passing plays looked like we all expected at the beginning of the year. The running plays don't seem to be effective without a running quarterback in there. If we can stay relatively healthy we can still have a really good season.
This might sound kinda dumb, but I remember this playing sports growing up. Sometimes, good things didn't really start happening until after we lost one. You just kinda had to get that taste in your mouth to realize that you hate it.
Out-coached? Alright...I'm OK with that. I didn't rewatch the film, but it seems that LSU modiffied some running game blocking assignments at halftime. We also misjudged their Qb passing abilities. The "Hat" is one unpredictable dood...we can't forget that again.
I still think our linemen were dragging more than theirs by the end of the game. No criticism....they are just a tuff team in the trenches.
I originally predicted us to lose 2-4 games this year. If we can get through the Ark. game without any losses and major injuries...this team will have gelled, be rested and be ready to take on WVa, UGA and Bama.
After reading Les Miles comments regarding the mortage crisis bailout, I see once again that you can figger out what he did or said and it works....you just aren't sure how or why he got there.
There was one factor that no one seems to point out about our running game: no diversity. Our 'run option' play, isn't believable without a fast QB and there is no second back to either block or hand the ball off to. It's just the one back on his own.
I feel the reason we had limited success last year was that even though we had limited passing, there were several options for running the ball from the two back set. With a single back, it's not hard to guess who's going to get the ball 80% of the time.
Just my two cents. Put Lester/Fannin/Davis in opposite Tate on the other side of Todd and you'd be surprised how improved the run game will be.
Let Kodi Burns have a chance. When he has been in there before he has proven to be a play maker.Chris Todd reminds me of a bad Branndon Cox.I thought the sorry quarterback years were behind us.Now even our running game looks bad. If Tony Franklin would look at last years stats and not go by how he is feeling that day ,maybe we could get something going. Give Kodi a shot!

Can you outcoach another team and still lose? Maybe you get a couple of bounces that don't go your way. Maybe the player is coached properly and put in the right position but the player does not execute?
Seems to me when you have two relatively evenly matched teams it comes down to execution, conditioning, and errors.
Blizting on 3rd and 10 against a freshman QB who hasn't done squat and leaving a true freshman CB in one-on-one coverage against their fastest receiver.
It's funny, for a couple of years a complaint was that we didn't blitz enough, not it's that we shouldn't have blitzed.
Since the QB hadn't done much all game, the thought would be the blitz would cause him to panic and force the turnover or the bad pass. The kid stepped up and made the throw, which he hadn't done all game. Hat's off to him for making the play.
I would agree that Miles made better, more innovative decisions the other night.
With that said, blitzing on third down and leaving Neiko Thorpe in one-on-one is a risk that makes sense to me. People get beat sometimes. LSU's guys were beat several times as well.
The difference in that game was that LSU could run when it needed to run and Auburn couldn't.
I'm surprised at the number of people (not all on here) who are convinced QB play is all that cost us the LSU game & the number of people who don't realize it was LSU we lost to and not some cupcake.
The LSU second half running game wore down our Dline. Their freshman Qb performed much better than we anticipated(coaching mistake?) and did better than they anticipated (coaching mistake?).
What happpened to the ability of the no-huddle spread wearing down the defenses? Maybe b/c MSU and LSU aren't ACC defenses(Clemson)?
The risk was greater than the reward on the blitz. Why risk giving up a big play when LSU had not moved the ball consistently at that point? That play opened up the floodgates. Lee had not proven he could make plays yet, but that game him the confindence he needed.
As Pat Dye once said, hindsight is 50/50, but I still don't think it was the right call.
If you look at the replay, Thorpe was sort of stumbling at the end of his coverge. Something happened. He was where he needed to be and just, for some reason, lsot his footing. It happens. It happened to me back in the day. It happened to me because I was green and absolutely freaked in a split second. Nerves. Sometimes your legs just quit in that situation if you're not confident in what you're doing.

The offense seemed to have more urgency vs Clemson so there were tons of plays, where this year the urgency doesn't seem to be there.
