Would Twitter add anything?

Hey everyone. My esteemed Gannett colleague from Jackson, Kyle Veazey, recently added Twitter functionality to his blogging endeavors.

He gets full credit for bringing the idea to my attention via his blog.

So I signed up. I added a little twitter feed along the right column under the blue bird. That's the "official" Twitter logo and he's a handsome bird. Kyle is "broadcasting" his Twitter stuff in a different way -- through cell phones or email, I don't quite understand -- but I thought it could be useful here at the HABOTN.

Twitter is basically super short (20 words max) blogs. Just the basics. Examples: "Kodi Burns transferring" or "Tray Blackmon punched Josh Bynes at Sewell" ... neither item true, but you get the point. You can RSS the Twitter feed if you're into that.

Is this overkill? Is this something we could use around here?

You tell me. I want this thing as HOT as humanly possible.

Hey Jay, as your example shows, I think the twitter option will be great for breaking the quick news items. And maybe sometimes a 'all is quiet on the Auburn front' if that's the case. It will be a convienient way to publish updates while completely mobile.

I like the idea of the mobile updates. I'm trying to register my BB now.....

I really need to get a mobile device of some kind. Can't decide between a BB and an iPhone.

It seems like a BB (or iphone) would be really convenient to break any news from the field on game day too via this twitter thing.

Jay G:

What are your thoughts on why CTT is always sure to mention Kodi when asked a question about Chris Todd? Just trying to keep the attitude up?

Jay,
I like the BB, it works for me and does everything the iphone can do with the exception of touch pad function and its less expensive... i have videos, short, full length movies and "SPECIAL" kinds (cough cough), music, email mms and sms. i love mines.

Absolutely.

And as I have said, Kodi Burns is a good player. He's going to have a good college career.

The only problem I have with IP's and BB's, is the same problem I originally had with the "old fashioned" cell phones (it seems ridiculous to even say that). The problem is this: If I don't respond IMMEDIATELY to someone's email, text, or phone call - I'm being a jerk. Technology has taken away the joy of ignoring people. :-)

I love my BB. I used it extensively to access the HABOTNT while I was in California last week.

i'm behind the times with an old-school phone so it's no good for me right now. however, i'm all for whatever keeps the HABOTN rockin'.

phred, you'll just have to be my twitter lifeline for now. :)

My initial aim wasn't to make this a cell-phone service. I thought this would be an addition to the site, but it's obvious now that people are at least open to the idea of twitter on their phones or RSS feeds.

It's going to take me a few days to understand how to use this. I don't want to send out text messages saying "just played CoD and taunted a little kid. Good times" and have that go against your text limits ...

I'm not sure I really understand what it is yet.

I don't think i completely understand this thing either, but text messages would be cool. Especially around recruiting time with the commitments coming in, although we already have 22 committed it could still be cool.
