Here it is:
"As I do with every coach, I evaluate their job performance based on the body of work. That being the case, we will continue to support Coach Tuberville and the program as we always have, and are looking forward to the next four games."I requested an interview with Jay Gogue, the university president, earlier this week. His assistant, Brian Keeter, essentially declined that request and explained the decision thusly:
"Dr. Gogue and Jay Jacobs will meet with Coach Tuberville when the football season is over just as they have done in the past. In addition, any decisions on the overall direction of the football program or any other Auburn sports program are made at the recommendation of the athletics director."
that is the kiss of death
ReplyDeleteThats not good for Tubs in my Opinion. No support it sounds like, but if he had said that he supported Tubs for then next several years, we would probably say the same thing.
ReplyDeleteThe hot seat gets hotter.
ReplyDeletewhat was this about jay? why do it now?
ReplyDeleteI need an updated Jay watch %. What say ya Jay.
ReplyDeleteno no no..CTT deserves another chance..see the whit it coming less and less.hell maybe it was never there.
ReplyDeleteagree with eddie..jay %?
ReplyDeleteI think we are left with too much reading into the same comments we read last year. You're only guessing that this spells trouble. I think you have opposing BOT members these days, more than in the past, and that spells good health for Tuberville.
ReplyDeleteAnybody want to put money on the table one way or the other on Tubs' future?
IMO, I think Jay is right on with the 75%.
ReplyDeleteIt was ridiculous how hard Spina was spinning in the Scarbinsky article. I didn't believe a word he said.
I put $10 saying he is gone. I don't want that nor will I like it. But that is my gut feeling and what i'm hearing.
ReplyDeleteI like our program..it seems for the most part clean. one bad year..c'mon!!!
ReplyDeletewhat are you hear*ng edd*e
ReplyDeleteI don't buy Spina's statement. I feel that was a statement to take the heat off the BOT and to cause turmoil on the coaching staff. I hope I am wrong. I want to believe Spina, but I believe he was a big part of Jetgate.
ReplyDeleteFake - that's why they call him Spina
ReplyDeletewhat else is he supposed to say? CTT is definitely gone? CTT is staying regardless of what happens? he can't do that. you wait and evaluate. it is what it is.
ReplyDeleteedd*e *'ve heard that the ma*n problem *s that the board *s spl*t on the future of Tuberv*lle.
ReplyDeleteexactly Scottie- that was a non statement statement
ReplyDeletesimma down errbody
Eddie - I take your action!!
ReplyDeleteI am hearing that coaching world believes he is gone and that Auburn is searching for a HC and I believe it because I know it is coming from a coach in Div 1A.
ReplyDeleteSpina does like Tuberville. I used to work for him. He really does. I don't think he was blowing smoke.
ReplyDeletewhy say anyth*ng at all scott*e?
ReplyDeletebiscuitator- I believe that is what they want everyone to believe, that the board is split. I do believe that not all are on board with whatever move will or will not happen, but I believe the power brokers are all in line.
ReplyDeleteEddie - So, who is it going to be?
ReplyDeleteFinebaum said today that some Auburn folks had already contacted Muschamp behind the scenes to gauge his interest. Don't know if he was blowing smoke or not, but that is what he said today.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't Auburn have to at least be prepared to go another direction? You never know. This year is no different from '03 or '07. This time, however, Tuberville doesn't have many options other than Clemson (maybe).
ReplyDeleteMy question is the HABOTN Nation, does it really matter whether Tubs does his last 4 games? It is going to be a bad season either way. I believe that if JJ wanted to make a statement, he should have made a defiant statement that Tubs is going to back or say nothing at all. JMO.
ReplyDelete*'ve heard that there *s a cont*ngency that wants muschamp and a cont*ngency that *s opposed to h*m haven't heard anyth*ng about a 1A coach. Maybe Chr*s Hatcher?
ReplyDeleteuh, because he is being asked to comment on the status of his head coach? it's nicer than saying 'no comment'. it's not like he called up JG and was like, 'yo, check this out'.
ReplyDeleteBiscuit did I miss something with your I
ReplyDeleteCrudup- Auburn only needs to be prepared if they are planning on making a move.
ReplyDeleteJJ doesn't HAVE the say. I think he said the only thing he could say. Company line.
ReplyDeleteMuschamp? I still don't get it.
ReplyDeleteedd*e * know that there are 2 brothers (you probably know who) that are spl*t that are major major powerbrokers.
ReplyDeleteNow that I got back in my chair after reading that JJ makes hiring and firing decisions. I'd hate to wake up in the morning knowing he had any decision in my future job status. That is unless he had to pay me $6M to stop working. Why even make this statement, it by far raises more questions than it answers, and is definitely not what we need. We're looking forward to the next 4 games? What the hay. Good grief.
ReplyDeleteMonica- I believe they are going after Butch Davis and getting Muschamp lined up as backup candidate.
ReplyDeletemy * on my laptop qu*t work*ng today. so *'m us*ng the * button anyone care or suggest*ons
ReplyDeleteSeriously they say this every year in the exact same way. If he had said "no comment" you guys would be in an uproar too...
ReplyDeleteedd*e sexton sa*d that dav*s won't happen.
ReplyDeleteJay just said JJ gave the statement in response the all the requests for a statement. JJ is a figurehead. Maybe his statement should have been, "Look, I really don't have any power in this situation. I really just have this job because...well, that's not important. What you people need to know is that I'm in control of this out of control situation. As soon as something happens I'll read about it in the paper and then release a statement to the media."
ReplyDeleteEddie, maybe Tuberville has plans? Duck hunting? The Falcons offices received some calls last year when Tubs was thinking about leaving. It's a two way street.
ReplyDeleteEither way it's a 12 - 15 million dollar maneuver.
just say we evaluate coaches at the end of every year. why come out and say anyth*ng. He d*dn't have to. don't return calls he put th*s statement out.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the point of making this statement, that's what I want to know. It doesn't make sense if you're looking for a coach or planning to keep your coach. All it does is show that you don't know what the hay you're doing.
ReplyDeleteBiscuitator- Do you expect Sexton to say that Davis is a possiblity? Remember, this is the same guy that said defiantly that Saban was not leaving Miami.
ReplyDeletewell sa*d mon*ca that *s quote worthy.
ReplyDeleteBiscuit. Could use a 1 rather than shift 8.
ReplyDeleteLess typ1ng.
In Eddie's defense I must say don't take Sexton's words as the gospel. That guy doesn't get paid to be honest.
ReplyDeletei would agree to say they should have a plan in place should this thing go way, way, way ugly. like, 4-8 ugly. nothing wrong with being prepared.
ReplyDeleteand Eddie, what Tubs does matters to me. at this point if we pull out say a 7-5 season then i say he screwed up, he admitted it, then fixed it....at least enough to get through 2008....he stays. just my opinion.
It is really only a $9 Million dollar maneuver.
ReplyDelete$6 Milll to buyout Tubs.
$2 Mill to buyout Davis
$1 Mill additional coaching salary to Tubs current salary.
No edd*e sexton sa*d that he doesn't mean dav*s *sn't com*ng l*ke saban *sn't com*ng but dav*s *sn't com*ng at all.
ReplyDeleteIMO, Tuberville can save his job by beating Alabama. If he loses, he's probably done, IMO. Sad that it is that way, because he has done a wonderful job at Auburn. If you had told me in the winter of 1998 that the next Auburn coach would win six in a row over Alabama, i would have told you that you were crazy.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note. Phils about to win World Series.
ReplyDeleteWow, that certainly changes things.
ReplyDeleteThe in-laws are here for a late supper.
Hope to catch you all at campfire later.
my quest1on w1th jacobs statement that we evaluate coaches every year how d1d slater and lebo stay as long as they have?
ReplyDeleteNo offense intended, but this thread has a kind of 'rumors on the Internet' quality about it.
ReplyDeleteScottie, I tend to agree. But that's nearly a miracle and that's specifically why I agree.
ReplyDeleteI think Auburn's shoved tightly between a rock and a hard place.
Davis won't be the next coach at Auburn, IMO.
ReplyDeleteA more likely scenario is Muschamp.
An intriguing scenario is the guy at Boise St. or Tulsa.
A solid choice is Grobe.
A disaster is Kiffin.
Fake - if that turns out to be true - if all it take for TBTB to be happy is to beat bama ....I'll...I'll...I'll be very pissed.
ReplyDeleteb*scu*tator ... your posts are mak*ing me drunk try*ng to read them.
ReplyDeleteFake Steve- If we make it to the Alabama game an Tubs is still the coach, then he will stay. I want Tubs here. I'm just stating my opinion about the situation.
ReplyDeleteThe wives always know....
ReplyDeleteBut, at North Carolina’s big home win over Notre Dame two weeks ago, Davis’ wife did ask Sexton the difference between UNC and Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Florida and Georgia.
Eddie, we have two OCs on the payroll and more than another million tied up in current assistants. Plus a package for a guy like Davis would demand something up front. That's where I see 12-15 mill.
ReplyDeleteanon ... Jacobs made the statement, Jay G. reported it, and now we are talking about it. Where's the "rumor mill flavor" exactly?
ReplyDeleteMuschamp and Jacobs??? You guys expect that Will has grown up that much in one year's time?
ReplyDeleteokay yall 1'm go1ng to start us1ng the 1 1nstead of the *
ReplyDeleteBiscuit - The 1 is a better read. Good move.
ReplyDeletePhred,
ReplyDeleteNot the statement or Jay's reporting.
All the speculation above this post..
Where have YOU been crudup?
ReplyDeleteCrudup- I don't believe it would require something up front, I think it would require guarentees in the contract. We are going to have 2 OC's on the payroll no matter what. I only say Butch Davis because everyone, including Jay, seem to believe that is the guy that AU will pursue.
ReplyDeleteYou guys seriously think Muschamp is ready to be a HC at this level right now?
ReplyDeleteAs if Jacobs does any evaluating. "Hey Mr Lowder this is Jay. Does he stay or not?"
ReplyDeleteI'm not much of a spec. builder myself. I like jobs with money up front and a signed contract.
ReplyDeleteAuburn needs to let a school l1ke M1ch1gan St. gamble on a guy l1ke Muschamp
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteTim- I don't believe JJ calls lowder. I believe Lowder tracks him down and gives him messages that self destruct in 10 seconds.
ReplyDeleteThe way the media highlights Muschamp you would think he is the HC for TX and not Mack Brown. I guess they love his "passion?"
ReplyDeleteGood point Kristina.
ReplyDeleteI've always said that big time schools such as Auburn and Alabama do not need to have on the job training for coaches. Experience at this level is a must.
With that said, alot of folks are high on Muschamp. I figure he will either be the coach at Auburn or Clemson next year.
My opinion ... Muschamp would be the absolute DUMBEST choice we could make. Even dumber that Kiffen or whatever his name is.
ReplyDeleteThe longer this goes on though, the more I think CTT stays. The dude is just resilient.
It's better to be hot or cold than lukewarm, and the statement by JJ is certainly lukewarm.
ReplyDeleteI think if AU goes after a guy that has never been a head coach before, that guy would be Muschamp.
Just busy as a bee, Phred. How's your biz going?
ReplyDeleteEd, I've heard Butch's name since day 1. Know why? He's the Saban heir apparent. But does that make him an actual candidate? I think it would be a great move for him, especially since he's that competitive. But is it real?
Fraid so, Phred. I see chaos for Will as HC at Auburn. And I don't even have the Force.
ReplyDeleteI think too many bridges were burned last year on both sides for CWM to make his way back to Auburn.
ReplyDelete$$$$ has a way of rebuilding those bridges...
ReplyDeleteI've been busy to Willie J,hence all the after hours posting.
ReplyDeleteFor the record, I have moved into the Butch Davis camp, much to my own dismay.
1'm tell1ng you 1 heard 1t from someone who 1 really trust that sa1d sexton sa1d dav1s 1sn't com1ng and he meant 1t.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing more stupid than firing CTT this year would be to hire CWM. Is he the example we want at the head of this team??
ReplyDeleteI'll address this stuff a the campfire.
ReplyDeleteI agree crudup. I have no idea who a HC would be, but you got to believe that TPTB would have some big guy lined up if they are pulling the trigger.
ReplyDeleteI guess so James.
ReplyDeleteI do actually have the Force so here goes...
(waves hand)These are not the coaches you are looking for.

ReplyDeleteI don't believe Muschamp would be the guy.
ReplyDeleteI think the guy at Michigan State is a heckuva coach. As is the guy at Boise.
ReplyDeleteIf I were hiring a coach, that is where I would start.
Grobe would be on the list too...
Of course, I think Auburn would be crazy to fire Tuberville.
Evidently Sexton spoke at the Birmingham TD Club and said he was going to stay at UNC for a very long time.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.tarheelfanblog.com/2008/10/interesting-quote-from-butch-davis-agent/
biscuit ... okay
ReplyDeleteI can see the Jay G videos now...
ReplyDeleteStarring CWM as the head coach, Pat Nix as the OC...
lukewarm = safe, non-commital
ReplyDeleteau1, grain of salt, my man. Grain of salt.
ReplyDeletecrudup - I hear ya.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteAh, you beat me to it au1 I was just about to ask biscuit if Scarbinsky was his trusted srouce.
ReplyDeleteI am saying with my mouth that I am going to be here a long time but above my head is a cartoon bubble that says ... "I hope these fools are actually buying this crap, cause dude, for 3 mil I'm a gone ass."
ReplyDeleteAbout a week ago, it was mentioned on this blog that the BOT was working on the buyout and for less than 6 mil. The meeting on the buyout was mutual. When he discovered they were trying to go much less than 6 mil Tubbs wet on their parade with his Auburn Man speech and now they are letting him twist. I believe an announcement will be made after the UGA game. I have heard, only form friends in Auburn, that the full buyout has been raised as of last Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteOthers have already contacted Muschamp. This will not be pretty for either side.
(Only repeating what I heard before the WVU game)
I do not like this, as I thing Tubbs should stay. If the BOT is willing to let AU fall like this they may have gottenthe last of my season ticket money.
wow...the kiss of death as the biscuitator noted..
ReplyDeleteScott Van Pelt had it right!
ReplyDeleteWhat was that bigcat? That he would date someone with a club foot or Kristina meets everything on his checklist?
ReplyDeleteI agree Kristina. Muschamp needs some seasoning as a HC somewhere else. Just because he is a good DC doesn't make him a good HC. AU is at a stage where they should'nt be a training ground.
ReplyDeleteHe is simply familiar, firey, and a very good DC. I just think he needs a few more years learning to be a HC.
wootang,
ReplyDeleteWe are gonna fire our HC with 1 game left to go against an opponent that he has beaten 6 years in a row? I simply cannot comprehend that. If he goes, he should go after the season.
If anyone needs the Van Pelt reference...refer to his vmail.
ReplyDeleteau1
ReplyDeletemmmmm....I would like to see that checklist before I make a comment ;-)
Kristina - I think it is lengthy
ReplyDeleteIt would appear so but that was a few years ago so it may be down to
ReplyDelete1. No club foot
2. No bells palsey
Braves Win!! Braves Win!! Braves Win!!
ReplyDeleteI mean Phils. RIP Skip Carey.
Wow, I think Jacobs said more in what he didn't say than what he did.
ReplyDeleteAt least WM would bring back some FIRE to HC job. He would also be someone the players would love to play for. We need a fresh new start. Period!
ReplyDeleteI think John McCain wrote JJ's speech. "6 more days...".
ReplyDeleteAnon,
ReplyDeletea fiery coach does not mean wins. Houston Nutt has fire but couldn't consistently win ar Ark.
There is less we know that we DO know about WM. I don't want to gamble. I just don't want WM as my #1 candidate.
He may not be my #1 candidate either but I would take him over TT any day of the week. Boise HC is a good one as well!
ReplyDeleteWhy would you take WM over CTT? Are you just ready for a change?
ReplyDeleteI think CTT has earned more time to fix his mess. I like his intent to just start the offense, but he made critical mistakes with his coaches.
Any other coach will take 3 years to get our program back. Next yr with CTT we could be competing again with the right OC.
The ONLY problem i have with CTT is 1 SECC and not enough opportun ities to be in it.
You might be right about another year with a new OC. I just feel that the direction TT has the program headed is only going to get worse. We have lost "monumental" ground this year and a hate the thought of seeing him again next year. We need a new direction in my opinion. Who's to say that with a new OC we wont still see TT making the same bad calls! Wish I had the answer!
ReplyDeletethat is the $64,000 question. We do know that CTT knows how to win. and anyone else (WM,etc) have NOT proven they can win games. Run a defense...yes.
ReplyDeleteI just think in about 5 of those years with CTT, if we had had a pretty good offense, we would have been in more SECCs. That's my bad taste with CTT.
It looks like Double J is doing the same thing Tub said at the end of last year.
ReplyDelete
