  4. Fear the banhammer. Great chat last night.

I suspect today will be a quiet day.

  5. Jessie Palmer is available, huh....hadn't thought of that. My wife would absolutely die.....

  6. I was unable to attend the campfire last night, visiting in-laws in S. Florida. If jesse palmer was talked about, I'm sure someone mentioned his short ties, right?Any other names mentioned?

Jesse is a spit talker. Literally. He spits when he talks. The ladies really dig this. Try it.

As far as the Macky D's vs. BK fries, that's a no brainer.

You cant beat the McDowells fries.

Whats happening at the AU Athletic Estates? Any news on the QB's? Offensive Game Plan for WVU? where to forward CTF's next Check?

    What gives?

  14. nice radio work as always JG.

i can't believe there are really that many people out there that wants Tubs' head. i'm pissed and disappointed too but i'm not ready (at this point) to push him off a plank. i think folks need to chill out a bit.

So was this rumor dicussed @ the campfire?

Tonight (Tuesday) I got the call that Tubbs is discussing resigning later in the week due to health reasons, reaching his 10 year retirment[sic] with the State of Alabama and the stress. He will finish out the year. From a good source who is saying (hate listening when I did not hear it myself but as I said a good source) they have confirmed with a coach and several writers. We will have to wait and see. Hopefully they have somebody in place if it proves true.

You wouldn't happen to be one of these "writers", would you Jay? Or do you think they talked to a local HS coach and a few folks who could spell their own names?

Good job on 740 as usual today jay.

BTW, we need to have a code word on there that means longshore is a tool and you should say it every time you're on.

    What you say?

  17. Anonymous9:50 AM

    How about "oronmay" or "ooltay"....

    ReplyDelete
  18. Anonymous9:52 AM

Id think those would do steve.

    Do well indeed.

    ReplyDelete
  19. How about ... "Mornin' John"

    ReplyDelete
  20. Nice, Phred.

The problem with a key word is that he and Barry read this site. So we'd have to go underground to even discuss the secret word.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Details as in:

"Yes, Tubs is the Coach of Auburn football" or details as in:

"Yes, all of that information is true and the man is gone"

    ReplyDelete
  22. EDIT: Clarified what I was talking about ...

    weagle251...

That email hasn't been discussed with me.

I mean, someone forwarded me the email. I only corroborated a few details.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Stuff about Franklin.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Mr. Sensible -

What was up with Hamburglar anyway? That guy was just out of his mind.

    ReplyDelete
  25. And if Auburn runs Tuberville, which may happen, I'll wager my home that they have his replacement already wrapped up.

    Just sayin'.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hamburglar got knocked out of the park Cecil Fielder style.

    ReplyDelete
  27. has that already "happened"?

    ReplyDelete
  28. you heard it here first (if it happens), JGT 'BET THE HOUSE ON IT'!

    ReplyDelete
  29. No. That hasn't happened as far as I know. I think people are expecting things to happen, but I have seen no evidence that anything is actually happening.

I'd print it here first, of course.

    ReplyDelete
  30. What happens if everything starts clicking and Auburn goes 9-4 or 10-3? Does everyone think CTT should still be gone?

    ReplyDelete
  31. That would be an interesting scenario, but so incredibly unlikely.

    ReplyDelete
  32. If we go 10-3, Tub wouldn't just be kept, he'd be knighted and granted sainthood as a miracle worker.

    ReplyDelete
  33. 9-3 sounds soooooooooo good right now. Definitely would take a miracle.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Anonymous11:06 AM

    Jay
Do you really believe that no matter what the record at the end of the year that Tubs is gone? Do you not think he will be allowed to stay if he makes some serious changes on his offensive staff?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anonymous11:07 AM

Jay..Have you seen the article in the Knox News? It's an interview with UT's AD. Looks like they are about to move on Fulmer. Rumor up there is that he will step down at the beginning of next week, which is the Alabama week for them.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anonymous11:13 AM

No way they fire Fulmer before Bama game.

251, heard that one quite a bit this season. I've also heard that from people who should know. But, still, I can never guess with the way things are handled by the organization that calls itself Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Anonymous11:18 AM

    scottie b,

What has Tubbs done to warrant our trust, or not at least expect more from him? Outside of 04 he has been an 8-9 win coach, which is okay. But every few years you can count on an epic meltdown (see Ark 06, all of 03, and several others). If he hasnt gotten over that "hump" now what makes you think he ever will?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Anonymous11:20 AM

"Hump" meaning the next step from a good coach to a great coach(for lack of a better term).

    ReplyDelete
  41. hip,

what coach doesn't have a meltdown every year or so? Pete Carroll did it last year and this year. should he be gone too? look, Tubs screwed up, he owned up to it. he's trying to right the ship. if he does let him stay, if he doesn't, push him overboard. i'm just saying we've got 5 games left. let's see what happens and decide then. what good is it doing the team to try to get him out RIGHT NOW?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anonymous11:46 AM

    Its settled jay.

    The code word is auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  43. You cannot say that Pete Carrol had a melt down when he won his conference and went to a BCS Bowl. I would love for that to be our melt down years.

    ReplyDelete
  44. my bad eddie, i was thinking Stanford last year and Oregon State this year in regards to Pete Carroll. maybe that wasn't the best comparison. my thoughts were of losing games when we were a heavy favorite to weaker teams. thus, Stanford and OSU for USC to Ark vs. AU in 06.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I can buy that a little bit, but you also forgot Georgia 06. Look...I like Tubs and want him to succeed. I'm not convinced that Auburn can do better than him, but I'm also not convinced that Auburn cannot do better. I really don't care how it plays out, because in the end, I think / hope Auburn will be better next year either way.

Of course both ways could be wrong.

The only thing that drives me crazy about Tubs is the blow out losses..We haven't had one this year, but he year is not over.

    ReplyDelete
  46. The problem is, it's a big deal when USC gets beaten by a lesser opponent or gets randomly blown out, because it happens so rarely...however it's not a surprise when it happens to us, because it happens usually once or twice a year.

This year with Vandy & Ark

2007 with Miss State, South Florida and the blow out vs UGA

2006 the blowouts vs Ark & UGA

2005 vs Ga Tech, 5 missed FG's vs LSU & Wisconsin

2003 blowouts vs USC, LSU & UGA and losses to Ga Tech & Ole Miss

2002 blowout vs Arkansas & Arkansas and not being able to hold a lead and control the clock vs UGA before giving up a 4th and 15 TD.

2001 blowouts vs Arkansas & Alabama and horrible performances vs LSU, Syracuse & UNC

2000, we don't even show up vs Miss State and Florida rips us apart for 5 TD's on their 1st 5 drives.

1999 most of this season is excusable because of the Bowen level talent, however the loss to Miss State after taking a safety on purpose was bad coaching & missed FG's cost us the Ole Miss game

    ReplyDelete
  47. Actually you can add the 02 Flordia game to my list too.

UF jumps up big early, and Carnell gets hurt...Campbell & Brown come off the bench and lead us back. We just need a PAT distanced FG from Duval to win the game at the very end and Duval kicks a low line drive that gets blocked and we lose in OT.

That's a game we should have won as well.

The point is, it's not a surprise when we lose these types of games, and that sucks.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Anonymous12:31 PM

Jay was it you that first uncovered the "Jetgate" deal? Neal McCready always credited you but I have heard Finebaum take credit for it also.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Anonymous12:32 PM

RK, isn't that what Trev Albert meant when he said, "It's just Auburn being Auburn" before ESPN fired him?

    ReplyDelete
  50. That's probably so...we win games we shouldn't sometimes, but we seem to drop even more we shouldn't.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Finebaum takes credit for everything.

I worked on that story in conjunction with Pat Forde and Eric Crawford of the Louisville Courier-Journal. Finebaum discussed it in vague terms on his show that day, but he wasn't coming strong with facts. Not at all.

    wareaglerk,

I am with you....05 and 06 make me as upset as any year....should have been in Atlanta each year.

    ReplyDelete
  53. We should have been in Atlanta in 01 & 02 as well.

01 we started 4-0 in the SEC and just needed to go 2-2 the rest of the way to go to Atlanta. We were 10 point favorites over Arkansas & Alabama and lost both, we beat UGA on a goalline stand & then the final game was the make up game at LSU and we lay an egg.

All we had to do is win 2 of the last 4 conference games, 3 of which we were favored.

In 02, all we really had to do was hold on and beat UGA then we would have had a rematch with Florida for the SEC title. However UGA hits the 4th & 15 play for the TD late in the game and it ends up UGA vs Arkansas. I remember we were trying to run the clock out in that game, and Ronnie Brown ran out of bounds instead of staying in which might have been the difference in the game.

  54. I know this is pure speculation but does anyone else think if the PTB at AU had handled "jetgate" better and Petrino had been the coach in '04 we might have played for the MNC, since he was a big name coach that would have gotten AU more national respect and pub. That would have then lead to better years in '05 and '06, better QB's etc...Sure he might have left for the NFL by '06 or last year but...

    ReplyDelete
  55. I don't think we would have.

I don't think there was much we could have done to jump Oklahoma, even with that one week we were tied with them.

Petrino wasn't a big name coach... in fact it was Jetgate and the job hopping he has done since Jetgate is what made him a name. I'm still not sure if he is a big name nationally today.

    scottie,

I'm not calling for his head this minute, but if things dont start looking markedly better (highly doubtful) then I think he should at least be expected to replace the WHOLE O staff. No exceptions or he should be gone.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Here's what I'm thinkin. Tubs salvages things to some degree. Steps down due to whatever, but is able to hold his head up because he "salvaged" things. The new guy gets the baton and we are off and running. Everybody is happy.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Phred,

That's a pretty good scenario that I wouldn't mind seeing play out...depending on who we get after Tub.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Anonymous1:28 PM

    phred,

I agree it may happen that way in this instance, but that isnt how the real world works.

In your job, if you make a mistake and then fix it do you ask for a pat on the back from the boss for fixing the problem? NO! Because you caused the problem!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Anonymous1:30 PM

Sorry phred, maybe I misunderstood. Are you saying he can hold his head up somewhere else?

    ReplyDelete
  61. hip,

if there isn't a noticable difference by the end of the season i would have to agree, clean out or be gone. i've just always been a Tubs guy, that's just the way i roll.

you can't dispute the numbers, though, and there have been more blowouts/chokes than i'd like to remember (thanks a lot RK!). regardless of changing coordinators and systems, there is too much talent on this team (in my opinion) for us to totally tank it. if that is the end result, he'll have to pay the piper and be gone.....just like CTF.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Unfortunately the losses like that are easy to remember.

Even as a kid when I played, the losses stick with you longer than the wins.

    ReplyDelete
  63. i still remember the 1990 loss at Florida plain as day. i was in middle school. listening to Jim Fyffe on a Saturday night outside. man i miss those days....the radio, not the losses.

    ReplyDelete

I will miss all of you very much

Youve given my worthless existence some bit of a break
