Getting things started

Hey everyone. It was a swell night for me at Opryland, where dreams come true and a Diet Coke costs $2.50. We ate dinner last night in a resty called "Aquarium," where we dined with the fishes.

The above photo illustrates that point.

Here's my basic schedule today. I'll be arriving at the stadium around 2:30 p.m., filming until 3:30 or so, then heading up to the press box to build another fine pre-game video. This ought to be interesting: Vanderbilt buzzing over football.

  1. Jay G ... if you get downtown around lunchtime ... you should walk over to the San Antonio Taco Co. for lunch. real cool place. about two blocks down from the stadium heading toward downtown.

  2. I need something good over by Opryland!

  3. O-land is an island to itself. Not much cool over there. You should just load everybody up and head on downtown. Lots to do down there.

The proper way to break things in on a Saturday would be blaring 'Isn't She Lovely' by the legend.
Next in line should be 'The Duke'.

Then you're ready. And so is Brad Lester.

    Jay,

    Restaraunt looked....how can I say....touristy?

    Hope it was good though!

  6. Motown and underground rock. Quite the combo.

I hate working at a desk on Saturdays, which is why I have been on here since around 7:00.

  7. It was touristy.

It also was lame in the sense that my sea bass was served in soup. Couldn't make that up. Served IN the soup.

I like my fish moist, but that was ridiculous.

  8. I retro-posted a thing about a pre-game Campfire. Are any of you all interested?

If there's any interest, we can make that happen.

Everyone is jumping on Vandy. According the ESPN America favors them with 51.5% of the vote.

  10. That 4.5-point line ... if I had money to wager, I'd drop a WHOLE LOT on this game.

  11. Based strictly upon the ESPN College Gameday Sliding Sign Scale: Vanderbilt fans are less witty than Auburn or Georgia fans.

  12. It's hard to be smart and witty. Only the few and proud like Jay G can do both.

  13. I saw one sign early this morning that said "I got my GED at Auburn."

I don't get it. Do you?

My fav was: "You are blocking the Library".

  15. yea, it's hard to "talk trash" when you are not even exactly sure what that means.

you remember the "wasssssuuuupppp" commercials. later they spoofed them with Ivy League types calling each other with "what are yoooouu doing?" "no, no ... what are YOOOUUUU doing?"

That's what it reminded me of. Those folks are like fish out of water.

Yeah, Vandy needs to get a bit more creative with their signs.

  18. This game means a whole lot in what happens for the rest of the season. Auburn should be able to do what it wants on offense, and if we can't tony franklin is going to replace "Hell, i'd boo me" with "Hell, i'd throw rocks through my windows and slash my tires."

I don't buy Chris Nickson being a capable quarterback for one second. We are going to get Vanderbilt's best shot but i think that will only last through the first couple of drives. Barring any crazy voodoo magic trick plays or huge blown coverages their offense shouldn't score more than 10 points.

    Auburn 24

    Vanderbilt 9

isnt it weird we are worried about this game and the two teams are similar in personnel as last year and in that contest the halftime score was 28-0 with our sluggish offense!

    Probably will be close

  24. I think at the end of the season, I'll host a real campfire up at the farm. I'll cook steaks and y'all can drink beer.

Remind me that I said this.

  29. I'm still trying to figure out how Kenny "the coconut cowboy" Chesney made it up to the game day booth. Weird.

  30. Lots of Auburn fans at Opryland.

I wonder if that stadium today will be 50% Auburn fans ...

Chesney is a fraud, I mean he goes to the tanning bed.....long live Alabama (the group), George Strait, Conway Twitty, etc

  33. I heard Alabama the other day on Sirius' "Outlaw Country."

If I'm in the mood for that music, Alabama (peppy) and Hank Williams Sr. (trippin') get the job done.

    I'm so lo-oh-oh-oh-onesone.

    I've got the Lovesick Blues!

(Not that I ever do. Dude can sing it, though.)

  35. Yep.

I've missed a few in my day -- and maybe this will be one of them -- but this seems like an easy one to call.

    Vandy offense = Roseanne Barr/Arnold.

    Vandy defense = Sandra Bernhard.

    Auburn defense = Jenna Fischer

Auburn offense = Alicia Silverstone (hot one minute, skanky for a while, then hot again)

    "Vandy defense = Sandra Bernhard.

    Auburn defense = Jenna Fischer"

Are you saying you want to see some HLA between those two?

  37. my dad saw a sign that read "#1 in the sec, #1 in the sats". that's not bad. won't be true after today, though. apparently, a bunch of the auburn rvs got rolled and egged overnight. wouldn't have expected that from vandy.

  39. I wouldn't be opposed ... if Jenna and Alicia are magic friends.
