Hall of Fame adjustments

I like to be transparent when it comes to issues as serious as the HABOTN Hall of Fame.
  • I have added a new subsection, entitled "BANHAMMERED," for those whose visits to the campfire ended on the business end of my mighty weapon.

  • I have added FakeSteveJobs, our resident Alabama realist, to the Notable Newcomers group.

  • I am promoting SteveFC, Monica, Bark and Eddie.

  • I anticipate at least two Heaters moving into the RoF in the coming days. If you'd like to stump on behalf of someone, please contact me via email. I like Yuengling.

Congratulations to all.

  2. my guess is sensible and RK will move up to the coveted RoF. Of course, my own selfish desires wish I were considered to be in that same group.

One day I hope....I can be in the ROF....Ive been down down down in a burning......How is the weather Jay?

    ReplyDelete
  4. If you want to move someone to the HOF Jay G, give my boy DnATL some love.

He may be a tool in real life but he certainly brings his best to the HABOTN.

How's that for a ringing endorsement?

Now D, you owe me some Yuengling.

  7. also - if i remember correctly, fake steve jobs is a bammer.

he deserves major props. its safe to say he is a respected hottie, even if he is not a part of the auburn family. id like to think all of the hotties to could the same in the reverse situation (a regular barner at a bama site)

all around - this a a solid group of classy fans, which is why HABOTN is so damn HOT.

  9. Oh my lowered - I'm embarrassed by how happy I am.

(Surely, there is a tiara for chick FTH members??)

    ReplyDelete
  10. I am deeply saddened that I'm not on either list. I believe my contributions to the campfire and to the blog are invaluable. This is unfair and unjust!

    Taylor,

You are correct that I'm a Bama fan. I enjoy message boards with a mix of fans, so I'm used to rational discussion with fans of all peruasions.

That said, Jay has the best sports blog on the net. I wish one of our writers had something similar.

    ReplyDelete
  12. AWESOME!!!!!! It's getting hot in here.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Wow! Biggest game of his career.

Ugh bad tide reference there Jay G...

    ReplyDelete
  14. I say move up Mr. Sensitive. He always brings the heat.

    ReplyDelete
  15. It would almost be like a Pine Box moment...

    ReplyDelete
  16. Taylor,

I hope you are correct. It would be a great honor, but I'm sure I'm not worthy.

There needs to be a ceremony for whoever it is.

  18. JG on the radio right now!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Lets just hope we dont run it every play out of the 3-point stance and we don't pass only out of the 2-point stance.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Eddie ... almost let that one slip.

    Glad I caught myself.

    ReplyDelete
  21. OK, for real, Jay is the best at this. I like that he's not a homer and he gives the best, most succinct info.

    ReplyDelete
  22. fake steve, I didn't even know you were a bammer which means you're a good guy.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Here we go again with big words...let me get my dictionary out. Succint- briefly giving the gist of something.

    ReplyDelete
  24. the continued flattery will get you all the way to the ROF. keep it up. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. alright HOTTIES, i'm headed out the door. gotta get my computer fixed up for the big game tonite. if i'm MIA you'll know why.

Congrats to the newcomers and the new Heaters!

    ReplyDelete
  32. By the way, I like the banhammered addition. That seems to have potential and recognizes the contribution of those that are no longer with us.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Fake Steve Jobs,

That is why I came to this blog...rational discussion no matter who your team is!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. where's phred?...he has been somewhat MIA. ive been reading this blog as long as he has been posting. business mustve picked up

    ReplyDelete
  35. So if you are on one of the Heat lists or Newbies list, can you also achieve Banhammer at same time while keeping your status? Jus food for thought.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I would think the banhammer is akin to insta death. Kind of like CTT if we get blown out tonight...

    ReplyDelete
  37. denny has also been bringing the heat for a while. to be honest im surprised he is not in the RoF

    ReplyDelete
  38. Tubs is trying to escape the lowderhammer tonight.

    ReplyDelete

I feel honored Jay G, the Crown Royal is coming out tonight to celebrate this AND the 24-10 win you promised us.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I would assume that you are on one of the other lists, if you make the banhammer list, you will be out of the other lists quicker than an Auburn OC ...

    ReplyDelete
  43. fake, I have no problems with Bama fans being here. It is actually cool to get more perspectives. As long as you never mention the number 12, you should be welcome.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I am actually not an Auburn fan either. I have generally been more of a Jan Terri fan most my life.

Now, everyone tell me how level-headed and rational I am, too!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. michael, you should get to remain just because of your cool avatar.

As for my vote, Mr. Sensible gets it.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Franklin said he "ignored his gut." How is that possible? I've seen his gut. You've seen his gut. It can't be ignored.

    ReplyDelete
  47. nice Phred. someone said earlier they missed you. could it be love? just asking.

i love how JG went from twittering extremely important breaking AU news to just random weather and traffic reports in other cities. so sweet!

    ReplyDelete
  48. YAY FOR DIVERSITY!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Awww ... that's sweet - somebody's missing me.

I have been a little aloof lately, but not intentionally. Just lots and lots of work stuff going on. So it goes.

Who all is in Morgantown tonight? freezin' there nu ... no, some of us don't have those ... freezing there butts off?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Anonymous4:09 PM

I am touched by all the love in here. Thanks, sincerely, thanks.

    Waiting for kickoff...

    ReplyDelete
  51. steve - was I in danger of not getting to remain? You guys been talkin bout forcing me out behind my back???? Jay, you are supposed blow the whistle on that sort of thing!

    ReplyDelete
  52. 57 degrees in Morgantown. Will be about 40 at the end of the game as we defeat WVU.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Jaybar for ROF! He tore it up last night!

    ReplyDelete
  54. i haven't heard any word u were in any trouble Michael. the Jan Terri thing is extremely terrifying, but besides that.... ha.

    ReplyDelete
  55. speaking of terrifying, shesaid...really? i'm down with Hillary, but....that pic scares me.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm sorry for the pic but if "she" "said" it's gotta be her. Name the fiercest lady you know and I'll change my pic. Deal?

    ReplyDelete
  57. uh....ok, you've got me. if i think of one i'll let you know. still scary, though. :)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Tina Turner? I don't know. I'm officially taking suggestions for a new pic.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Jaybar should have his entire own category - Insider!

    ReplyDelete
  60. It's official pregame prep time. Hubby is going on pizza/beer run. Also, I've just had word that one of my neighbors wants a clarification on the whole War Eagle/Tiger things. I think I'll go over and explain it to him tomorrow.

  62. You know, one of the knocks on former U of L HFC B. Petrino, besides being a quitter and the football equivilent of Larry Brown, was that when he was at U of L, he stockpiled offensive players and the castoffs and the almost was players went to the defensive side of the ball. In other words, he neglected the defensive side of the ball. So, when Kragthorpe came in, no D. I think Kragthorpe's first year bears that out. Lots of losses where both teams scored over 30 points.

Why bring that up.....well.... I see a strikingly similar parallel to what is happening on the plains, but on opposite sides of the ball. Number 5 defense, number 104 offense. No playmakers on the offense, better athletes on defense....no wideouts that can get open,,,,but we have d-linemen that can run with running backs...........anyone else notice that?? or is it just me.

    ReplyDelete
  63. The War Eagle/Tigers issue is simple. A long time ago, during a game against Georgia, a wild Tiger roamed into the stadium and mauled Georgia's coach. The resulting lack of leadership cost them the game. That is why we always yell, "Tigers!" Of course, we have always been the Auburn War Eagles, but Tigers! is out battle cry.

    ReplyDelete
  64. predictions...

I wish I could find some optimism going into this game but I just can't seeing our offense getting it together. This one will once again be on the defense.

Pat White can not throw the ball. They also lost slaton and schmidt (I would pay the price of admission just to see Schmidt and Blackmon meet each other at the line of scrimmage). Devine is good in space stopping him will be the key.

    Auburn 13

    West Virginia 17

    ReplyDelete
  65. denny... i think it is because they recruit defensive players better. They can pick those guys out where as they don't know what the hell they are looking for in an offensive player.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Is powers out for this game?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Jay,,,

To quote or rather, paraphrase one of my favorite songs from the motion picture "Boogie Nights"

He will rock you and he will roll you.........Feel Feel Feel...Feel my Heat"

You Jay, are the Dirk Diggler of the sports beat world.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Jay G as Dirk Diggler. nice.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Ron,,,

That is my point exactly. How we got Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams, and Devon Aromashodu, and Ben Obamanu, and Courtney Taylor...and Jason Campbell....I don't know....

We find alot of diamonds in the rough on the defensive side of the ball, but not so on the offensive side. Some of the bigger O-Line recruits have been busts...some of the walkons have been starters..

    ReplyDelete
  70. I think powers is playing. Hot Carter seems to be the only one out.

As for talent on offense versus defense, I don't see a lack of talent on offense. I see a lack consistency.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Steve,

Have you seen our running backs?

  74. Shesaid- Angelina Jolie is my pick for your new pick. She is more fierce than Hillary.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Steve,,Talented players are consistent. QED, not enough talent on the offensive side of the ball.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Look at the UofL basketball teams of the 80s. Darrell Griffith averaged 20+ points a game his senior year in 1980. All five starters averaged double digits in 1986.

Consistency is the mark of a talented player. Inconsistency suggests that either the coaches are not playing players correctly...ala Bill Curry playing Tim Couch in the option attack I-bone,,or we have good to average players who get lucky once and awhile. I don't know. I think the RBs bring a lot to the table,,,but where else?

    ReplyDelete
  77. Anonymous4:54 PM

Ron there are better defensive players because Tubs knows defense. He does not know offense and neither do his asst offensive coaches so they don't know what to look for in an offensive player.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Anonymous5:01 PM

Petrino knows nothing about defense. Just like Tubs knows little about offense. I know someone that started on defense at UofL under Petrino. He said in practice the D would spend most of the time not doing much of anything while everything was concentrated on the offense.

Petrino = great coordinator, sorry HC

    ReplyDelete
  79. you all keep making my points for me.

    ReplyDelete
  80. The defense is better because they have an identity. Fast undersized players come here that aren't wanted elsewhere, and we also get a few big recruits because we are known for our D.

Offensively? I don't know, we are known for a good running game, but that hasn't been exactly accurate the last couple of years. Why would a big recruit come to AU to play offense? And since they won't, how do we exploit untapped talent on the offensive side like we do on the defensive side? Seemed like the spread was a good idea for awhile. Didn't exactly work out, though.

    ReplyDelete
  81. SHESAID, after careful consideration....and a couple of brews, i say u need to change to PRINCESS LEIA ORGANNA. she was a bad-ass priness with a Jedi Master brother and father and most importantly, she had 'the force' with her. can u do better than that? i don't think so.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Talent doesn't mean consistency. Coaching does. I like our runningbacks, although none of the are even on the Kenny Irons level. Ben Tate as very good, but not great. Lester and Davis are both injury prone, but have talent.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Sarah Jessica Parker is a little scary. Cynthia McKinney, the green party candidate, is also scary. The Wicked Witch from the West is scary. That chick with makeup from the drew carey show is scary. Rosie O'Donnell is hair-raising scary.

    ReplyDelete
  84. An example of talent versus consistency is Vandy. They aren't close to us in terms of talent. They are pretty darn consistent and win games because they play smart football. Talent isn't our issue, coaching appears to be. The confusion the players expressed after the Vandy game is the best example. Is Ziemba a talented player? Definitely. Has he been consistent? Consistent false starts possibly. This is definitely a coaching issue, although I do not think blaming a specific coach is justified. It has to do with coaching and team chemistry.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Anonymous5:15 PM

I disagree somewhat Steve, talent is an issue. ie QB'S, WIDE RECEIVERS, even the Oline to an extent. There isn't a wideout that would be 2nd team at OK.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I have arrived.

    Photographic goodness forthcoming.

    ReplyDelete
  87. eagerly awaiting photo goodness

  88. Anonymous5:19 PM

Is that your new OC Monica?

    ReplyDelete
  89. well here's my 2 canidates for the HABOTN RoF then I'll vote for monica..I know she's new but the fact is her hotness is consitient, she post great comments, and provides links that are sometimes different but always entertaining or enlightening. Then I'll go Mr.Sensible for the second mainly b/c I agree with alot of what he says and he's another consistent hottie. Know this though if I get my attendance up and this new internet thing down then I WILL be voting for myself. So there it is Jay those would be my 2 votes. WAR EAGLE HOTTIES!!!WHOOOO

    ReplyDelete
  90. Monica, that's just wrong gal. now, if you had put up Scary Spice or something i would understand.

    ReplyDelete
  91. That's David Beckham and he can be my anything C. Well, if I weren't deliriously happy and insanely satisfied by my Greg who reads this blog.

    ReplyDelete
  92. wow wartiger! I'm not worthy of RoF as I am ever so new, but that was very cool of you. Thanks.

Scottie - come on, we're all good sports about the parade of lovely ladies you guys admire. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  93. We have a lot of talent at QB if you consider both Caudle and Burns were high profile recruits. Because they don't perform doesn't mean that don't have talent.

A great philosopher once said "You can't fix stupid". Well, in this case the players aren't stupid and they have talent. You can't fix talent.

It is a question of coaching and experience. There were times where Jason Campbell was bashed just as much as Burns, Todd, and Cox have been. All of those guys have talent. You can't instill talent. Campbell didn't suddenly become talented.

Burns may very well be a great QB, but he lacks experience. He is basically a freshman in terms of experience. This is purely a coaching problem. When the players don't know what they are suppose to do, the responsibility lies with the coaches.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Mr. Sensible got my fist vote. I will give Wartiger my second vote for sucking up to the babes, or maybe that should be a different category?

    ReplyDelete
  95. the line has to be drawn... no more links of male underwear models... unacceptable

    ReplyDelete
  96. the game hasn't started yet so maybe I in too good of a mood just b/c AU is gonna be on soon but I can't explained how jacked I get just before a game. I played in high school and for the past hour I feel like I've been standing in front of a giant piece of paper. JACKED!!!

    ReplyDelete
  97. wartiger, I understand the feeling. I am having an adrenaline rush at the moment. I am trying to get my mind right for the game and decide my strategy,

    ReplyDelete
  98. Steve.

Not wanting to be contentious, but high profile recruits do not equal talent. Sure more high profile recruits are LIKELY to be talented.

My radio partner Joe B. Hall found out the hard way about recruiting high profile HS all americans. HS star does not automatically mean college star.

Jason Campbell shouldn't be used because he had other variables to deal with, ie multiple offensive systems. However, JC on his worst day is starting to look like he was better than KB on his best day. So far.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Anonymous6:43 PM

First, i'd like to say I'm honored to be on the HoF list, even if it is for being banhammered.

Secondly, that banhammer is a farce. Came down much too quickly. I didn't deserve it. Unjust. Unfair. UnAmerican!
