Rod Smith sees the changes
I don't have access to the quotes just yet, but Rod Smith said the coaching staff made some major attitude changes at practice today.
I'll have more on this in a bit ...
- Smith said Tony Franklin was much more animated than usual. He stopped a play and showed everyone on the field why a particular route was incorrect and actually ran the (correct) route himself.
- Smith said Franklin commented that "the old Franklin" was back.
- Smith said he'd never seen "the old Franklin" before and this guy was much more stern.
- Smith said the team is running a smaller group of plays and focusing on making those few plays work correctly every single time. If anyone made a mistake today, Smith said the team had to run the play again. Some play were run as many as three or four times in a row.
- Smith said the tempo was much faster than ever before today.
I'll have more on this in a bit ...

I like changes in attitude. Hopefully changes in playcalling come with them.
Sounds like maybe CTT decided to let him go. "if we are going to tank, then let's tank your way" If he does that, I think it would be a smooth move on his part. The worst thing that can happen is we don't get any better. That doesn't seem to be a big deal right now, know what I mean?
I'd love to see what the "old Tony Franklin", aka the Peach Bowl Tony Frankling, aka the Shut up CTF and Produce Tony Franklin, etc. can do. I'm personally not in the "Fire Tony Franklin" boat...I have full confidence that with Ray Cotton, Cameron Kenney, Onterrio McCalebb, and Philip Pierre-Louise, this office WILL work.
Finally letting Franklin coach....what a concept.
Just wish we had this mindset earlier, not 6 weeks into the season.
I guess this means there was a "new" CTF?
i wasn't a big fan of the 'new' one Phred. hopefully Tubs will let him 'do what he do'. agreed, it can't get any worse.
A change in attitude is good. I haven't seen or read one way or another that they are "Finally letting Franklin coach" his style of offense.
Hopefully, something lit a fire under Tuberville's/Franklin's a**. We need something...
"Kick the tires and light the fires big daddy."
phred...youre in construction? What kind of work?
jay, there has been a lot of talk over the last few days about whether franklin is being "allowed" to run his offense.
i think there is a bigger issue with franklin. seems to me that what our offense needs right now is a leader (i.e. coach) to step up and say something to the effect of "i am 'the man.' i know what i am doing. follow me and you will be successful," an so on and so forth. not, "i am a dumbass. i make boneheaded calls. i am not smart. why would anyone listen to me."
your thoughts please on tony franklin's leadership skills???
there is a lot of chatter out there about franklin being on par with mike leach. would you agree that while franklin may have a good "offensive mind", his lack of success compared to someone like leach can be traced to his poor leadership skills, including his inability to instill confidence in his system and himself???
And Knox was doing what while Franklin was coaching the receivers?
Knox: Watching and learning?
Hopefully, filing out an application at Wendys. In reality he was probably talking to Emsfinger about a way to further sabotage the spread.
It probably went like this after practice, "Hey Tony, let's play that Todd kid again. Even though he is so weak he couldn't break wind after a bean dinner, he gives us the best chance to win. On top of that, let's give it to Tate some more to run on that zone option crap..., errr, play that you run. I really like it. It gives us the best chance to win.
blah, blah, blah, best chance to win.
"Watching and learning". LOL.
HABOTN schedule update:
CTT highlights (in quote form) @2:25.
Video @3:15.
I'd like to have a campfire today, but I have to meet with The Publisher tonight at 6. I'm pressed for time.
We'll chat later in the week.
uh-oh Jay, here comes the "you need to be a little less real and a lot more pumper on your blog" talk from the publisher.
Geesh.
Just kidding. Hopefully.
Glad to hear Tony is lighting fires. Let's put it on Arky.
Nah. It's nothing like that.
Just an annual check-up.
Jay,
This can't be good you were called by the Publisher and told to bring in you "Note- Book" not good Jay, not good at all.... Hey but look at it this way the HOTTIES got your back dude!!!!
Taylor ... any kind you will pay me for. :-) residential or commercial. we can fix your door knob or build your whole building.
Jay,
I'm sorry did you say Publisher or Proctologist?
Our new publisher seems like a nice lady.
I'll let you know how it goes ...
Is she single and good looking?
Jay,
Watch out Phred has a way with the ladies!!!!
The publisher is going to tell you, that your way of blogging isn't really "Montgomery Advertiser Blogging" and you will need to adapt your method to the other writers on the papers wishes.
now that's funny RK.
That's not what she is going to say ... she's going to say "JAY GEEZY ... YOU DA MAN!!! I want everybody to be more like Jay G. This is a TEAM effort. He can't do it all by himself. Come on PEOPLE. Tighten up. And tell that Phred guy to call me."
Knox "watching and learning"??? Daaaanng. What do you really think about Knox, Jay?
I've been hard on Knox for years, for not coaching and recruiting good WR's, but I wrote a lot of that off to the type of offense we ran (run heavy).
I know Knox has been on Tubs staff for a while, but is it time to maybe demote the guy and/or let him go?
I'm guessing you won't touch that question with a 30 foot pole, since you probably run into Knox at the Atheletic Complex....
