Good thing Franklin wasn't available. I can hear it now:
"I'm terrible. I told you guys I was stupid but I'm really awful too. I don't why Coach Tuberville doesn't fire me. If I were him, I'd fire me right now."
Jay I greatly appreciate your blog. It gives us insight that used to be off-limits through a "beat writer". I remember countless years at some schools where there would be a problem on the field and never really spoken of (in terms of cause).
The next fall it would be written about and referred to casually as the reason for the past season failing. Nothing in between. Drove me crazy.
Your "front line" reporting (blogging) is a breath of freash air.
I know those two guys do not want to blast their teammates or coaches. I still remember the quote from Tate before the season began. Something like "you can tell who should be starting, as long as we win a national championship, no one will care".
I wonder if anyone can ask him about that quote now. Seems like he is willing to be real. I just want to fix the problem and not talk around it like CTT.
I understand CTT is not one to come out and explain the problems in the middle of the year; but, guys that will at least talk (tate, pugh) are a breath of fresh air.
Thanks. I get the impression that the players have a better understanding of playcalling and what will work during the game than CTF. They are obviously frustrated (what an understatement) and who can blame them.
Simplifying the playbook? CTF's last proposal to improve the offense was to go away from scripted play-calling, and we see how well that's worked.
I like Tubby but he is the consumate politician. He knows that if he throws CTF under the bus, it would hurt his ability to get a good new OC to come to AU. I think we'll hear nothing but positive remarks from Tubby, even if he thinks something different.
Tate, Pugh and all the rest deserve a bit turnout for Arky and lots of support from the fans. It would be so good to see them play well this Saturday.
What drives me nuts about myself - I'm too soft hearted.
I was just sitting here thinking that I hope CTF gets this figured out for his own sake, and that CTT is handling this whole thing like a real gentleman, as always.
I'm going to go throw up now. Saying that even made me sick.
jay g, can I somehow get a copy of the frozen image on the video. that pic says it all. I was trying to capture it but couldn't. can you email it to me?

The week is a little less fun without Franklin quotes.
ReplyDeletethe players seem to have less confidence in the coaches than we do...
ReplyDeletewhich is very very sad
ReplyDeleteI was surprised by some of the things I heard today as well.
ReplyDeleteYou could tell exactly what Tate was thinking...
ReplyDeleteeven better was how much they were apparently holding back in their comments

Jay,
ReplyDelete"I was surprised by some of the things I heard today as well."
Listen, now is no time to keep that to yourself.
I mean, Pugh questioning the weird move away from power football. You don't hear that from players very often.
ReplyDeleteRod Smith saying the offense is going to simplify again. Seriously?
Rod Smith saying "I know we're going to still be running the no huddle but it could change when we go to West Virginia."
Tuberville saying "I think Tony’s done a good job of adjusting."
Thanks. I get the impression that the players have a better understanding of playcalling and what will work during the game than CTF. They are obviously frustrated (what an understatement) and who can blame them.

ReplyDeleteI was thinking the same thing Phred...you know how he feels without him saying anything. It's the old WTF? look.
ReplyDeleteexactly
ReplyDeletethis video is amazing. can players call out the coaching staff more than that without actually doing it? talk about not being on the same page. wow.
ReplyDeleteRyan Pugh should be the next OC.
