Blackmon update

Hey everyone. Just spoke with Tuberville about this alleged situation involving Tray Blackmon.

The coach said he hasn't spoken with Blackmon in a few days, but wasn't aware of any major career-changing decisions involving the injured linebacker. Blackmon is out for the season after undergoing wrist surgery last month.

Rumors began to swirl when Blackmon, who has one year of eligibilty remaining, wasn't spotted on the Auburn sideline last weekend.

"It's up to him," Tuberville said. "As far as I know, he's going to be here."

ALSO OF NOTE: Blackmon has family commitments that could prompt him to consider some form of professional football or other employment options. If that happens, Tuberville might not be the first guy on Blackmon's call list. I'm working to talk directly with Blackmon ...

  1. I wouldn't be surprised either way. This is almost the same statement that was made regardig Chaz Ramsey.

How come every "rumor" that comes about Auburn tuberville knows nothing about? Ramsey, Blackmon, etc.

JMO, but who cares. He has never lived up to his potential as a football player. Joshua Bynes is a stud. Let Tray go where he may. War Eagle.

  4. Both of those situations involve players who had future-related choices to make. I mean, I don't have involved conversations with my boss when other newspapers offer me jobs.

I tell him I'm talking with the other newspaper and I'll get back with him. Then I make a decision. We don't have briefings.

So, to me, Tuberville's lack of knowledge isn't surprising at all.

    ReplyDelete
  5. It is weird how Tub never seems to know about any of these types of rumors.

If he goes it should have been a huge loss, but he's just never been healthy/in school/out of the doghouse enough to make too much of an impact.

If he's gone, I wish him the best in his family situation.

  6. Let the rumors start "JGT is leaving the Advertiser".....here we go....

    ReplyDelete
  7. Let's get that one started around the time of my annual review next time!

    (It's Aug 10.)

    ReplyDelete
  8. I think Josh Bynes is doing a fantastic job. If Blackmon is gone, good luck to him.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I posted this on the last thread:

I have heard something that made a little sense to me. It was that all of our injuries is due to a lack of conditioning for the player on the strength coaches part..I am sure this has come up already but I would be interested to get the HOTTIES thoughts on the subject. Who is AU's strength coach?

    ReplyDelete
  10. So can we start surveying the Hotties for Gut Feelings on Blackmon returning?

    ReplyDelete
  11. I am putting that date on my calendar for next year!

    ReplyDelete
  12. I wonder if the Little Dime Bag of Hate shouldn't have been converted to a strong safety.

Just too fragile for LB ... particularly in the middle.

    Jay,

Maybe Tray Blackmon was cut after the satellite radio merger. He got let go with Dana Dane along with Old School Rap. No, seriously I have noticed we havent heard a peep out of him since his injury. If Tray wants to go pro he needs to look up last years FSU LB, cant recall his name. Same size, build, and pros and cons. He got drafted not sure where or what he is doing. But he was the spitting image of Tray.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I can understand needing money for family, but the dollar value would surely be significantly higher if he could prove that he could play outside linebacker and show some pass coverage skills.

  15. Funny on the Roundtable here in the "ham", they are auctioning off some stuff for Todd Jones' auction (I think to help Pell City schools) and the Tuberville autographed AU helmet brought $500, I think. The Saban autographed Bama helmet is at $1500 with 10 minutes left. Amazing...

    ReplyDelete
  16. I have no problem with Tuberville not knowing about this. Blackmon (and Ramsey applied here too) is not a factor in this season anymore and CTT has enough to worry about without chasing down injured players to see if they will be returning next season.

He probably operates under the assumption that they will be back and he will address the situation when they have made an actual decision as opposed to running down rumors.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Roundtable bumper music getting better and better.

    ReplyDelete
  18. J-W-A ...

all I've got to say is ... what a bunch of cheap Bammers.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Kristina, Tubs may not care - he may not be back himself. :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Players come and go. I just hate to see the ones that have unrealistic expectations of where they will be drafted. It was common place while I was at Auburn to see players after their senior year get nice expensive cars provided to them by agents and their head is filled with all these expectations, then after draft day, they don't get drafted and their rides and hopes get taken away.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Just win, that is why I said he had enough to worry about ;-)

Geno Hayes was the guys name, he is playing special teams in the NFL for the Bucs, he went 6th round. So thats where Tray would go in my opinion. Hard hitter against the run, smaller frame, weak against the pass.

  27. Ever notice how you've never seen Jay and Tray together at the same time?

Maybe they're one and the same ... he has so much time on his hands to blog and kibbitz with the HOTTIES because he's not playing football.

Talks like an insider on Tray and TT.

    Hmmm.

    ReplyDelete
  28. FSJ, do you care to elaborate?

Kevin Yoxall is the S&C coach at AU and by all accounts is one of the best in the SEC if not the country.

Sometimes the injury bug just bites. It's all about luck, IMO. No amount of conditioning will stop a lineman from rolling your ankle, or breaking a hand.

Blackmon has NFL level talent, IMO, and has been our best LB against the run when he's been healthy. I hope he stays around, but I imagine his plan was to have a big junior year and go to the NFL anyways. Now that we're sucking and he's hurt, the situation has changed, but I'm sure his goal remains the same. Good luck to him, I wished he'd stayed healthy and out of trouble in his 3 years here, but he'll wind up mauling people in the NFL on special teams next year and if he stays healthy he'll probably be a decent LB.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Jet - I have a hard time thinking Tray kibbitz. Now plotzing and having an gnosh maybe, but I don't think he's a kibbitzer

    ReplyDelete
  34. What are these "other blogs and websites" I keep hearing Doug/Josh and other mention? There are no others. I'm confused.

No doubt, Kristina. I'm loving the music.

Faker - You're holding out on us. Don't tease us like that.

Wartiger - There was a big ole discussion about conditioning a week or so ago. So, if you don't get a lot of response it may be because nobody wants to risk getting me started again! lol I promise not to. Carry on. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Kib-BLITZER, maybe?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Jet, I think that Saban autographed helmet brought $1550. INSANE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Anonymous1:12 PM

LOL!!!! It was a lunch and learn session on Cost Transformation Metrics.... Stimulating stuff to be sure.. :-(

Bet you are jealous now! I wanted to scream.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Kib Blitzer ... very nice!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Good LOWERED I am so dang tired of people saying Texas Tech can't score on an SEC defense. My appreciation for and defense of the SEC has grown HUGE since I moved out of the south, but for Pete's Sake don't suffer from SEC Homeritis, Chronic, Sever.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I would thought a 10 percent tithe of all year income would have been the required minimum buy-in for the helmet that Saban touched.

    Of course, maybe it was.

    ReplyDelete
  41. no big deal mon..was just wondering if conditioning is a problem for AU? thanks for responding though..

    ReplyDelete
  42. (I would say yes and I would be in the minority. The end.)

    :-)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Faker - You should have screamed. I know I would have.

Is it just human nature to trash players when they don't pan out.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Whenever Doug starts talking like that I hear the Mission Impossible theme music in my head.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Jay, on the rumor that you are leaving the Advertiser, all I can say is "What rumor". That it was a fact.

Seriously though, your analogy to your job and a 21 year old football player is not accurate. These guys are the ultimate responsibility of the head coach. That is not say he has cutting edge info like the HABOTN does; but, he ought to at least be asking us for 411.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Anonymous1:20 PM

I was so flustered, I took the name of Nick Saban in vain....

    ReplyDelete
  48. Jet, someone probably just gave away their entire savings for that signed helmet.

    ReplyDelete
  49. J-W-A ...

Don't worry the gubbment will bail 'em out!

    ReplyDelete
  50. JWA- Not their life savings, just their kids junior college fund.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Earnhardt T-shirt fund

    ReplyDelete
  52. Mark - I think it speaks to how dispensable these kids are. I know lots of people go on and on about how the players are pampered, but a serious injury and they are dropped like a hot potato. I’ve watched it happen at more than one school.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Faker - Invoking Saban's name is not a good idea. That's enough to ruin a...well you get the picture.

    ReplyDelete
  54. oops, sorry about that figure on the helmet Jet and Eddie, it is up to $1800, it has not ended yet.

    ReplyDelete
  55. ummm Kristina - what was that last music?

    ReplyDelete
  56. Anonymous1:33 PM

    Hot Rumors! Get 'Em Here!

Jay G. Tate is going to work for ESPN-The Magazine and the Assistant Lifestyles Editor.

Phillip Marshall will be hired by Auburn to do...what he's always done - prop them up when they look stupid.

Tray Blackmon is going to make the jump to the Arena Football League as a reserve fullback.

Obviously, this is a joke. We all need a laugh from time to time.

    War Eagle!

    ReplyDelete
  57. That Bama helmet will look great mounted next to a deer.

  60. The progression of a player:

HS Stud- All fans geeked to try and find out where the kid is going.

HS Stud Commits- Euphoria among the masses at the school he chooses. Heisman trophies and all american awards are handed out.

Freshman- Better make the field or he maybe overrated.

Sophmore- Junior- If he starts, then why not All-American, or should be considered. If he doesn't start, he is a bust.If he goes pro after Junior and it doesn't seem logical in the fan base minds- Blast him and say that he is not needed and will be replaced.

Senior- Kid loves the school and is a great person. Hope he gets drafted.

That seems to be the progression I see among fans.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Anonymous1:45 PM

    Add this to Eddie's progression.

If starts as Frosh or Soph - fan base says team has no depth or senior leadership. It's the HC's fault because he can't recruit - run the HC!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I've got some good news and bad news, son. The bad news is that I've sold the rights to your plasma. The good news is that we've got Saban's signature on the helmet. It's like touchin' the hem of the garment, boy.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Could I just touch the helmet daddy?!?

    ReplyDelete
  64. All day long on Rivals they are saying that the team is comming unwravelled from within. Bryan Mathews is even acknowledging that the team has issues with Leadership and that all the bad things are now taken their tole and seaping thru to the outsiders.

If this is the case, then we have problems. That is exactly what it was like on the 98 team and if it is the case, then I do not believe that we will play very well these next two games.

    ReplyDelete
  65. If he goes, he goes. He hasn't done anything since he's been at AU, what makes you think that would change in 09?

He should've stayed at 200 and played SS. I don't think his body is built for the punishment he wants to dish out. wde

    ReplyDelete
  66. I don't think my email is working. Will somebody email me at monica_wareagle@yahoo.com ?

    ReplyDelete
  67. If the kids lucky he may get it in the will.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Eddie, I have a feeling these next two games are going to be UGLY! I do not drink but I think I may have to be intoxicated on Saturday to get through it.

    ReplyDelete
  69. YOu have mail monica.

The only reason I brought it up is that Bryan Mathews actually took the time to respond. He usually doesn't respond.

Apparently people have some football players on facebook and they are posting some very telling things on their facebook page.

Jay, are you getting the same sense.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Why would they play him at safety when he has zero skills at pass coverage

    ReplyDelete
  71. I guess I'm just going to put my orange and blue glasses on and go to the game. I don't care what they say, I believe it will be a close game even if all logic says otherwise.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Thanks very much, Eddie and Tom.

That doesn't sound good, Eddie. Not shocking, but doesn't sound good.

    ReplyDelete

  81. I passed along my information on Blackmon to Bag via voicemail. Did he discuss that on the air? Or maybe discuss the blog entry?

Tray can't play safety in the NFL. Remember why he can't play weak-side linebacker in college? He doesn't handle pass coverage very well. Even he admits that.

    Can't play safety like that.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Mark, I disagree. Tuberville shouldn't get involved in Blackmon's personal decisions. If he comes to Tuberville and wants his thoughts, fine, but I wouldn't want the coach putting pressure on him and I certainly don't think it should become a media topic.

    ReplyDelete
  83. By the way, names were later mentioned and I am not putting them on here.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I agree that it shouldn't become a media topic, per se, but I just want to get hot information on the HABOTN ... even if it's periperhal or tertiary in the grand scheme of things.

    How's that for a run-on sentence?

    ReplyDelete
  85. tertiary...good word Jay

    ReplyDelete
  86. I hope the notes are more the exception than the rule about how the players feel right now. But I almost can't blame them, it seems like they haven't been on the same page since they started playing. Now it seems to be taking it's toll on the Defense too

    ReplyDelete
  87. Jay, Yes they talked about your Blackmon on Roundtable.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Blackmon has had some good games while at Auburn. The Florida game last year was great. But there haven't been many of them. I really can't see him trying to go pro.

I do think Marks is a likely candidate to go pro.

Coleman might also consider it, but he hasn't had the outstanding season that would make it likely.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Also ... thanks for registering jet g. ate.

    Welcome to the HABOTN family.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Wow if Blackmon decides to go pro it will be very premature and cost him Millions of dollars potentially. I am not sure what his "Family Commitments" are but I would hope for HIS sake that he is patient enough to reach his full potential which will require him staying at AU his last eligible year. I do wish him the best however in what ever he decides

    ReplyDelete
  94. Isn't Coleman leading the SEC in sacks

  97. Tubs appears to have lost the pulse of this team. Tubs, in the past at least, appeared in control of this program. I fear that this may be the first telling sign of the end of Tub's era. May be just a few upset kids, but some of the comments are a little concerning.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Thanks for the help, Mr. Tommy!

  100. Good story out of Lexington today about Mike Leach. He used to coach at Kentucky.

John Clay taught me in college.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I am friends with a player who graduated in '05, and he thinks Tubs should be gone. I don't exactly agree with him and his reasoning, but it is troubling. You haven't exactly seen a group of ex-players take out an ad in the newspaper Fulmer style defending Tubs. Of course, that didn't exactly help fulmer a whole lot in the end, but still.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Seriously ...Leach at UT?!? Like I've said about all the other guys that have been thrown out for all the openings. Why would these guys (Davis, Leach, etc) leave their successful programs to a spot they'd have to retrain and rebuild to their systems. Pretty cool story though. does this also mean he was at UK after Franklin?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Michael-
    What was his reasoning?

    ReplyDelete
  104. Eddie, these facebook comments posted on rivals by people who are friends with au football players?

Other than the ones that specifically mention AU, how do we know they aren't talking about girlfriends or classes or something else?

I'm not in denial about the state of AU football. It's a mess.

But I don't wanna give any credit to people who take advantage of their "friends" status on facebook and post it on a message board so they can get some attention there has having an inside track.

Mike Leach seems like a really cool dude, I could see why kids would want to play for him.

I'm with the writer though, I don't think he will be in Lubbock after this year. Crabtree and Harrell both gone as well.

  117. I don't know, I am scared he will read this and get mad at me because it is pretty specific arguments. Basically, he felt Tuberville wasn't interested in being a national power, thus he never would be one. Only emphasized winning the SEC, said non-conference games didn't matter. My argument is win the SEC and the rest will take care of itself. I am more of the cliche "One game at a time," guy, some are more, "Let's set the goal of winning the national championship." I don't know that it makes a difference one way or the other on how you approach it, tomato-tomah-to. But that was the gist of it. I think the guy also somewhat resented the CEO approach and how he wasn't really involved in the gameplanning at all. But to me, workers are always gonna resent the CEO, because in everyone's mind, they are going to think they are the only ones around doing real work. Tubs does other important stuff, I am sure.

She thinks foozeball is the debil.

  144. If I were wifey, I would get a detailed listing of all of your texts from Blogspot once a week.

  145. awww TennTiger - My doggies are my babies. You're in my thoughts.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Nothing to see ... just AU football rants ... and the other family I have in Ohio.

Just kidding. About Auburn, I mean Ohio.

    ReplyDelete
  147. OK. We're good to go with LG.

    ****

Valerie: I spoke with Jack and got their claim number. Apparently the claim was rejected because there was some incorrect information entered.

Valerie: I contacted my warranty department and got the correct information.

Valerie: I gave that to Jack who will submit another claim.

    ReplyDelete
  148. JGT, Yeah, right.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I haven't had time to read everybody's comments, but I will say that I hope things work out well for Blackmon. He has to do what's best for him. He's a good guy with a lot on the line. Family first.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Dude at the shop said alls good.

I have the chat transcript. Homegirl acknowledged that the warranty is in tact and this isn't my problem.

I mean, "Jack's" chances of getting money from me in the first place was less than 1%.

    ReplyDelete
  151. JG, did you really pull the 'reporter' card on her? if so, that's pretty ausome.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Anonymous3:25 PM

Jay can there be a new coach without major assistance from CNB? If not, I think the chance of CTT being a goner went down dramatically today.

    ReplyDelete
  153. tennessee tiger,

prayers from here sent. my dogs are my babies too. that's horrible. let us know what happens.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Anonymous3:27 PM

    Fake Steve,

I want your honest opinion on Shane from Finebaum.

    ReplyDelete
  155. I wasn't trying to pull a card ... just letting her know that I track everything.

    What happened with CNB?

    ReplyDelete
  156. Anonymous3:28 PM

    Closed at $1.76

    ReplyDelete
  157. Down to 1.75 per share.

I think the coaches' buyout is banked in Tigers Unlimited ... the issue is the going forward, and I think there's a plan for that.

    ReplyDelete
  158. I mean, really, the difference between 1.76 and 2.25 ... miniscule.

And Lowder probably doesn't have THAT big of a personal interest in CNB. Right?

    ReplyDelete
  159. Card-pullin' media elite!

    ReplyDelete
  160. Anonymous3:37 PM

7.5 million shares. But I'm thinking he has more important things to do than coach search.

    ReplyDelete
  161. He also has 51 percent ownership of Auburn University Football, LLC.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Oil down below $60/barrel now.

    It was $140/barrel in July.

    Wholesale gas now $1.40.

Sorry about your luck, oil companies.

    ReplyDelete
  163. JGT ... the difference in 1.76 and 2.25 to BL is about $3.75 million.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Actually, wholesale gas has dropped this week. Now trading at $1.24/gallon. Crude down to $55.65/barrel.

jet: That's half of Tuberville's buyout!

    ReplyDelete
  165. Again, I think the buyout has been banked ... as for going forward, I don't know.

But to me, that makes Boom more likely ... he'll come cheaper than Butch, etc.

    And he fits their profile.

    ReplyDelete
  166. lmao @ "card pullin media elite"

Jay - not sure if you saw this but maybe it will make you feel better.

Three electronics manufacturers—LG Display, Sharp and Chunghwa Picture Tubes—have agreed to plead guilty and pay a combined $585 million in criminal fines for conspiring to fix the prices of liquid crystal display (LCD) panels, the Department of Justice announced Wednesday.

LG will pay $400 million of the fines, which is the second-highest fine ever imposed by the DOJ’s Antitrust Division, the DOJ said.

  168. What's Lorenzo Diamond up to nowadays? I'll bet he would make a good coach. Let's get him.

    ReplyDelete
  169. For the Shame, I mean Shane on Feinbaum questions, Shane continues to spew the stupidity that increases the price of the Saban signed helmet because of the fact that "THE BEAR IS BACK". I guess that not only Hindus believe in reincarnation.

    ReplyDelete
  170. wow... not sure if I agree with those hefty fines. Why not do away with fines for companies until the economy is uncollapsed?

    ReplyDelete
  171. Anonymous3:58 PM

They are foreign companies. Might help us. We need the money.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Anonymous3:58 PM

Got to put it to the auto industry now.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Fines are mean. That was clearly just a misunderstanding.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Anonymous3:59 PM

    And Jay's warranty.

    ReplyDelete
  175. foreign shmoriegn. We are a one world economy nowadays. Our gov't doesn't need more money.

    ReplyDelete
  176. I think we should fire Tuberville and then fine him 6 million for losing so many games this year.

    ReplyDelete
  177. we are the world
    we are the children
we are the ones who make a brighter day

    ReplyDelete
  178. Michael, our government certainly needs more money!

How else will it buy off/bail out every industry/company/interest group known to man?

    ReplyDelete
  179. Seeker, which one of our safety's have pass coverage skills?

    ReplyDelete
  180. Michael I'm sick of telling you how funny you are.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Michael:

    That's BRILLIANT!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  182. How about fire Tuberville, make him work at Waffle House (since he does have a food service background) and serve never-ending hash browns to all of us until we barf?

Really, can't you see him wearing that folding paper hat and wearing a name tag that says "Tubs?"

    ReplyDelete
  183. He would be an incredibly popular waffle house worker with the customers. I can see some of his employees being annoyed that he always delegates hash brown duties, though. "That's what we hired Betty for. That's her area of expertise," he would say.

And in an ironic twist, Waffle House loving new Auburn coach Mike Leach may be his most regular customer.

    ReplyDelete
  184. But maybe he would go back to his roots and when someone ordered scrambled eggs, he'd go Riverboat Gambler on them and give them sunny side up.

    ReplyDelete
  185. Jay G,

Have you had a chance to look at the email I sent that had Joe Scarborough dropping th f bomb?

    ReplyDelete
  186. Personally, I think Jay should offer a new HABOTN service. Have Jay call customer support for you. For $39.95 he will play the reporter card and solve all your problems.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Can we assign the money to the buyout/fund to hire new coach?

    ReplyDelete
  188. Now, that ain't bad. After the first $39.95 we will only need another $5,999,960.05.

    ReplyDelete
  189. I hate to be the only one of the "Aubs", thanks to Longshore for the title, with a modicum of belief in the fact that Tubs has yet to have his "big win" this year and the only one that can truly be big is the unseating of the Bamers from their perch. Could AU really send Tubs packing if he climed to 7 in a row? If Tubs truly wants to "stay in Auburn", then this is his only focus for now. Maybe my love of the program, and hatred of the bama nation is my only glimmer of hope, but I will take that win in a heartbeat.

    ReplyDelete
  190. Somebody's goin' to haf to go back and get a @#$% load of $39.95s!

    ReplyDelete
  191. the riverboat gambler serving sunny side up would be akin to doing that fake field goal LSU copied last year and got all the credit for. Pretty similar, just a different way to do eggs.

But sometimes being a gambler can bite ya. Like someone would ask for grits, and instead Tommy pours coke all over the customer's head. That would be like the time we had damon duvall try to run for a first down on a fake punt from out own 10 yard line on 4th and 25.

Either way, it would be good to see the ole gambler back!

    ReplyDelete
  192. Aub52, I don't think we have lost all hope. It just seems like a long shot at the moment.

As for Tuberville leaving, I wish I had his problem. I can see it now "Oh no, I am fired, pay me beotch". I am quite sure he won't suffer.

    ReplyDelete
  193. I cannot help but believe that the buyout was negotiated about the time that Franklin was asked to "not come back"

    ReplyDelete
  194. I really don't think Tuberville will be gone. If next season is like this season, he is a goner, but I don't think it will happen this year.

Also, the next time we give a coach such a larger buyout, could we add something like as long as he has a winning season or something like that?

    ReplyDelete
  195. TT probably has no reason to "negotiate" unless there are other things in play that have not been revealed.

Mr. 52 ... Optimism left me when we played putridly vs. Arkansas, then folded up vs. WVU.

The bottom line we are playing perhaps the two best teams on our schedule, and our signature win was over ... anyone. No one.

I have no hope. There, I said it.

    ReplyDelete
  196. I will be shocked if we don't win these next two games by a good amount of points.
