The First Post, Iron Bowl Saturday

Hey everyone. I am awake. Weather reports don't seem all that damning.

Light rain in Tuscaloosa, but it looks like the precip will be out of the area by 10 a.m. or so. Overcast with a high of 62 degrees Farenheit is what Intellicast.com tells me.

I'll go with it.

It's a big day for me: I get to drive my wife's SUV up there. She doesn't let me drive it usually, but The Advertiser Hacks need a big vehicle to ferry the four of us.

News? I have none for you just yet. It's early.

  1. my folks are there, anxious for the kickoff.

Who all is in the Advertiser Caravan today?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Well Tub has had two weeks to plot and scheme for the hated Bama. We'll see how well coached these guys are.

    ReplyDelete
  4. What are your expectations for today, RK?

    ReplyDelete
  5. War Eagle!!! Good luck on your trip to JHSW. I can't believe it is Iron Bowl day. Time to lay the smack down.

21-20 Tigers. No idea how we score three times, just gut instinct.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I always expect to win.

My expectations are that we go out and play hard. That we look like we are prepared to play and that we keep it tight with and get a chance to win it in the end.

If we don't look prepared and get bullied around all game, then I'm going to be greatly disappointed.

  8. Three offensive TD's in one game hasn't happened but twice this year. (Southern Miss & UT-Martin)

    ReplyDelete
  9. Touchdowns, schmuchdowns. We will find a way. Hopefully we get in a field position battle and Durst is the difference.

Some people seem to not realize the brilliance in this offense. With the way our offense has performed, it is almost as likely the defense will score, so we are a dual threat team.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Oh yeah, the living to punt philosophy.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Anybody up for some HATE today?

    ReplyDelete
  12. I'm hoping my hatred will all be harnessed before the game in the direction that it needs to be rather than turned inward after the game.

    ReplyDelete
  13. There are several other interesting games today. Georgia vs Georgia Tech could be intriguing. I do think Georgia Tech has a shot against that weak Georgia defense.

Tennessee vs Kentucky should be even more interesting. Tennessee has already secured last place in the East. Hmmm, I wonder if a team has ever managed to do that feat before. They were first in the East a year ago and now have a stranglehold on last. A loss to Kentucky would only make the fall more dramatic and secure Fulmer's position as the most fired coach in America. You can't get more fired than Philip Fulmer is these days.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Steve, don't think I've ever seen brilliance and this offense written in the same sentence. I have to say hoping our walk-on kicker wins the game pretty well sums up this season nicely.

    ReplyDelete
  15. offense? we don't need no stinking offense.

    ReplyDelete
  16. This offense is not bad, it is just misunderstood. This is a kinder gentler offense that will resolve it's issues through discussion rather than physical violence.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I hope Kentucky can finally beat Tennessee. Kentucky fans always refer to this as a rivalry game. When you haven't beaten a team in 23 years, that ain't much of a rivalry. Hope it ends TODAY, though, and that the Tigers can reach 7 in a row. That would make for a perfect day!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I do think the opening possession will have a big impact on how this game goes.

If we receive the ball, we have to avoid a 3 and out. At the same time, a 3 and out for the Tide would be awesome. We need to gain field position and hold onto it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. If we win today, we will have the same record as LSU, which is very surprising.

    ReplyDelete
  20. let's stick with the violence

    ReplyDelete
  21. This is Brad Lester's final game. He is one of the players I am hoping has an outstanding game.

As for LSU, after further investigation, if we win, they still will be one win better than us. Argh!!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. fsj, stoking the flames of hate...

    ReplyDelete
  23. So basically we have the G-rated AU offense against the violent and mean-spirited R-rated Bama D. Hopefully the family-oriented AU team prevails. I now feel warm and fuzzy.

Are you ready for some FOOT-BALLLL!
    Saaa-turday Pah-tyyyyyyy!
    Hatin' on the Bam-mahhhhs!
    Let's get this thang start-edddd!

Here we go with some off the wall stuff.. why? b/c that's what we will need today.

We're gonna have a tuff time running...it's Brad Lester's last game and he says he's 100%. Brad has a litle bit of Caddy's jump-cut and we will need that in order to find creases to run in. Give the senior the ball.

Throw deep Kodi. Either throw it out of reach or connect...and throw it often. No stinkin' INTs. We have to back up their defense. Our D should hold them early and give us chances for a couple of 3 and outs while the deep throws back up their D and allow us to run that prolific offense.

By the mid second qtr, we have to be able to start driving the ball and keep the TOP even for the rest of the game. Keep the D fresh enough....stuff the run..and pressure JessicaPW.

Do ALL of that and we can be in position to win at the end. Don't do ALL of that and our D will get tired and we will slowly get crushed.

Mr. S...I finallly was around the Pc with a chance to join our Webcast and can't get seem to get sound. I even registereed and logged in. Probably not internet savvy enough.

    ReplyDelete
  26. So here is one more reason why we MUST win today...

Only one of my three kids has had to endure a loss to UAT and he was only one when that happened and far too young to understand what was happening.

As a good mother, I simply cannot fathom a world where my children have to live with the knowledge that Bama can beat the Tigers. It is simply too much for them to endure. I do not want to have to look at their sweet little faces and say "Mommy, Mommy, how could this happen? The bad guys won. Why Mommy, Why" and wipe their tears away.

    So please,

TUBERVILLE, DO IT FOR THE CHILDREN!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Anonymous10:42 AM

    Three reasons we win:

1)As a big underdog with his back against the wall Tuberville suddenly becomes Knute Bear Lombardi.

2)Nothing to lose, no look ahead to look at, who cares.

    3)Well....historically 7 is a lucky number

    Auburn by 3...War Eagle

    ReplyDelete
  28. In a surprise move, Auburn Coach Tommy Tuberville will unveil his new offensive coordinator in the Iron Bowl. Cesar Milan has been hired to replace Tony Franklin, who was fired earlier in the season.

For those of you who don't know Cesar Milan, he hosts a TV show on the National Geographics channel called the Dog Whisperer. While not having any college coaching experience, he does bring a psychological approach to offense.

As an example, the offensive line will no longer block. The will pinch the defensive linemen on the neck while saying "PSSST" to them. While maintaining a calm dominate state, the offensive linemen will coax defensive players to lie on their side, while they scratch their belly.

    ReplyDelete
  33. YAY! Corso and Kirk picked Bama. It's on!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. thankfully, Lee just picked bama...

    ReplyDelete

    Iron Bowl is here.
Hate bama with your whole soul.
    Elephants eat poop.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I love the positive karma from all of the hotties. I am trying to be positive myself, but its going against my cynical nature.

I expect a close game, something similar to the way Auburn/ThUGA played out. Having a chance to win at the end would be a positive. Actually winning? Not very realistic IMO to expect it, so I won't.

I for one have had my expectations shattered more than once by this team and coaching staff this season. I have no desire to go there again.

I want to see Auburn play hard, not give the perception of quitting (ala WVU), and play with some pride. Whatever else happens - happens.

    War Eagle everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Realism, Scmealism, just kick elephant butt.

    ReplyDelete
  53. But James, this is the last chance this season for your heart to get broken. Then you have to wait 9 whole months...come on, man, dream with us! You can handle it one more time!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I asked the Magic H8 Ball the all-important question ...

    Are we gonna beat Bama?

    Answer: Yes, definitely!

  61. Proverbs 6:12-19

    12 A worthless person, a wicked man, Walks with a perverse mouth;

    13 He winks with his eyes, He shuffles his feet, He points with his fingers;

14 Perversity is in his heart, He devises evil continually, He sows discord.

15 Therefore his calamity shall come suddenly; Suddenly he shall be broken without remedy.

16 These six things the LORD hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:

    17 A proud look, A lying tongue,
    Hands that shed innocent blood,

18 A heart that devises wicked plans,Feet that are swift in running to evil,

19 A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren.

I don't know folks, but it sounds like a discussion of BAMA to me. After all, crimson is the color of sin.

Yeah, Steve, they said on ESPN Sylvester Croom has "resigned"

    ReplyDelete
  65. That is not surprising. If we were to loose 45-0 I would expect Tuberville to offer his head to the ax man.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Anonymous12:06 PM

Just a report form ESpn on Croom.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Tech chasin' points ... DUMB.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Hey Earl - Interesting diploma. I've got one almost exactly like it that my dad earned in 1950.

If that's yours, I'll quit referring to the Hotties as kids.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Earl is my husband, coosa. He's such a cradle rober! ;-)

  71. Anonymous12:10 PM

Come on James, pep up my man. Lock the knife drawer and think positive about things. You'll feel better when we win. If for some reason they get lucky and win, so be it. We all still have to go back to work Monday. Doesn't change much at all cause they are favored.

Do what I do and just the UAT fans you didn't get to watch the game. Makes them pretty mad cause they can't talk smack to you.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Croom was in a real tough position. Think of the coaches in the SEC West he was going against: Tuberville, Petrino, Miles, Saban, Nutt. That is a pretty tough job when you aren't at a traditional power house.

    ReplyDelete
  73. I'm either going to die at the Alamo today, or I'm whippin' Santa Anna with Sam Houston.

Either way, I'm fightin' till I'm dyin'

And I'm expecting two things ... HATIN' BAMA AND VICTORY!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Clemson is beating the Terry Bowden out of South Carolina.

    Is it true?

    Did Croom "Croom" himself?

    ReplyDelete
  76. south carolina is lookin weak.

    ReplyDelete
  77. That's the report on ESPN, Sensi

    ReplyDelete
  78. Yep. Croom is done.

Mississippi State boards are all over it. Their mod indicated that it is true.

ESPN has picked up on it too.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Nutt Goes Boom, Brooms Croom, and seals Sly's Doom

    ReplyDelete
  80. LOL Earl and Kristina - Ok, Kids it remains. :)

Wish my grandfather had gone to API, but my dad was the first in our family to do so.

Glad I was able to keep the tradition going; my wife did too. Our daughters are miserable failures who went to other schools. I let them choose their schools, but told them if they chose uat they could pay every penny of it themselves. Neither made that choice.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I can't find anything online about Croom being gone. I do think he has won a lot of games he shouldn't have at MSU. It is just a tough place to coach.

    ReplyDelete
  82. All right all. I have finally settled in for the hate bam-a-thon.

I took my daughter and her finger nails painted orange and blue. She is all ready for the game. I am teaching her to Hate bama.

I'm ready for the game. I feel good for the first time in a long long time. WHat does that mean...not a thing.

    Beat Bama. Hate Bama.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Anonymous12:18 PM

    Hmm...the seat gets hotter.

    ReplyDelete
  84. My late father went to API ... sang the alma mater line "API" instead of "Banner's High" until we lost him last fall on the Thursday before the LSU game.

    Yeah, he HATED Bama, too.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Round the bowl,
    down the hole,
    roll turds roll!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Mr. Sesi?

    What seat? Tuberville's?

    ReplyDelete
  87. The seat has been so hot for tuberville that he no longer as an ace. So therefore, he is now uneffected by the hot seat.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I predict MSU's next coach is one of the following four folks:

    - Jeff Bower
    -Bobby Wallace
    -Mike Dubose
    -Dennis Franchione

    ReplyDelete
  89. Anonymous12:23 PM

-Mike Dubose is about to win a D3 title, right?

    ReplyDelete
  90. Of course Terry Bowden may be interested in MSU too.

  92. Mr. Sensible....He's marching toward one.

I actually think he may be ready for a MSU type job now.

Sometimes a journey through the wilderness gets your mind straight and gives you some toughness.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I'm sure Croom resigned to save State from having to deal with the media frenzy of having to be the 1st school in the SEC to fire an African American head coach.

If that's the case, classy move on his part.

    ReplyDelete
  94. If I was MSU, I would hire Larry Blakeny from Troy. He would be a good hire for them IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Blakney is a good choice, but the bigger schools seem to avoid him. I guess they figure his hands are still dirty.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Anonymous12:27 PM

    Blakney won't leave Troy, IMHO.

He was just inducted into the Alabama Sports HOF. His entire career and life have been in this state.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Apparently Croom had a buyout. If he had been fired, MSU would have had to have paid him millions of dollars. Croom is a class act. I hate to see him go.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I can't believe MSU was held to 37 yards of offense. It appears that MSU has redefined what it means to have a bad offense, so Auburn no longer has a bad offense.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Croom will probably get his buyout.

I'm am going to assume his resigning is his way of walking away instead of State being made out as the media bad guys for firing him.

    ReplyDelete
  100. The georgia / tech game is interesting.

I hope it goes quickly so that the game does not get interfered with by the end of this one.

Mr. S- did you make it to the game as originally planned today?

    ReplyDelete
  101. Anonymous12:32 PM

  105. You can tell the UGA/Tech game is being done by CBS's secondary crew. Just a few mins ago they were bragging on UGA's rush D holding Tech to 120 yards rushing in the 1st half so far...saying they average 270 per game. We'll that means Tech is on a pace to get 240 in this game.

240 yards allowed rushing is not good at all and it's pretty close to 270.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Jay should be getting close to posting from T-town.

    ReplyDelete
  107. There's nothing like the B team doing a game ...

talked about what a great play the INT the DB made for GT ... when all he did was stand in once place and Stafford threw it to him.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Who thinks Mr. Sensible needs to turn into Mr. Psychotic for the next five hours or so?

    Anyone? Anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  113. In the spirit of the day, it's time to kick it up a notch.

    ReplyDelete
  114. does cbs have an "A" team? or will we get the "C" or "D" team?

    ReplyDelete
  115. We get Verne "Troyer" Lundquist and Gary Danielson.

This is not the majority opinion, but I kinda like 'em ... though I do miss Blackledge.

    Danielson understands the game.

I don't worry about 'em lovin' on Bama. They all do that.

It just means we'll break their hearts. I like Verne from golf.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Auburn wins 32-7

You heard it here first. After the game Kirk HateStreit will force on pain of death to eat elephant poop and say he likes it.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Jet- Verne should stick to golf. Much better at covering the 15th hole than rambling on for a whole game.

    ReplyDelete
  118. James in B'ham and I must be related in some distant way. The CTT kool-aid is flowing at record speed, but I sense an ugly whipping headed our way. I see all of these "We believe-Beat Bama" signs around AU and shake my head. My sign says-"I have little faith in an even decent performance, but I am hoping for a miracle." Hope is a bad thing.

    ReplyDelete
  119. now cbs is talking about croom

    ReplyDelete
  120. Depressed ...

it ain't about CTT ... it's about Auburn.

You and James need to pop a couple of Zolofts, and get on the HATE Train to Victory!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  121. Hope is a good thing ... maybe the best of things ... and no good thing ever dies!

    ReplyDelete
  122. I'd like to think that the last thing that went through John Parker's mind -- other than Sen'Derrick's forearm -- was to wonder how in the hell Auburn got the best of him.

    ReplyDelete
  123. depressedAUfan, i'm with you on the dislike of the "we believe" campaign. seems to me like if you have to make a campaign out of it, somebody thinks it's missing...

    not missing at my house.

keep up the hate and the hope. let's kick bama's butt!

    ReplyDelete
  124. Sonic, those are motivating words. Maybe CTT is at this moment using a tiny hammer to escape from the dressing room and a fired-up, well-organized AU team will emerge from the rubble. We can hope, can't we?

    ReplyDelete
