Gettin' started on a Saturday

Hey everyone. Had a swell time last night with the peeps. Official HABOTN propers are offered to the Haynes clan, the Rogers clan and the Peaspanen clan for making the night enjoyable.

On to business...

AUBURN 98, MOREHOUSE 50: Your Auburn Tigers opened their exhibition season with an easy win over a completely overmatched opponent. Of significance is that junior-college transfer Tay Waller scored 27 points. He's a shooter. He hit seven shots from three-point range.

That allowed point guard Quantez Robertson (pictured at right) and Dewayne Reed to create on the fly inside the three-point line. That's exactly what Jeff Lebo needs right now. His new big men, Johnnie Lett and Brendan Knox, combined to finish with 15 points and 17 rebounds.

FOOTBALL SITUATION: I'll be heading up to Auburn around 11 p.m. CST for the epic homecoming battle between Your Favorite Team and the UT-Martin Skyhawks. We'll start live coverage around 12:45.

  1. This UT-Martin game feels like a big game. I can't believe I won't be able to watch it.

Already have the BBQ on the smoker...

Will be starting the Jambalaya shortly.

    I love Saturday.

  4. Already have the BBQ in the smoker?

    Hugh Nall? Is that you?

  5. I still don't think anyone should dictate who Tuberville should fire. Either you trust that Tuberville can make the right decisions or you don't.

Actually, I am Hugh Nall. eheheh

We have a good size group that comes over on Saturdays, so I always try to cook em up something good. My wife hates Cajun food, so the BBQ is because of her...

  7. FSJ, it sounds like you qualify to be a coach at Auburn. You might want to submit your recipe, I mean resume.

    Steve,

I agree. If I were AD, I would have Tuberville (and Shula, when he was HC at Bama) come in and lay out their plans to correct whatever was wrong. If the plan was solid and workable, give him another year. If it wasn't, then bye bye.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Lets call FSJ- Fake Hugh Nall. I like that.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Go Golden Gophers. Beat Rich Rod.

What time should we be there, Faker?

Jay you're going to be late for the game if you don't leave until 11:00 p.m.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I agree FSJ. If you are going to pay someone millions of dollars a year to coach, you should be able to trust his decision making.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Monica, is hating Rich Rod a requirement for citizenship in West Virginia these days?

    ReplyDelete

I am aiming for everything to be done by 2:00 Central.

The good thing about BBQ is that you can basically set it and forget it if you have a good smoker.

I noticed the 11:00 PM thing too, but I decided to let it slide because I am in step 5 of OCD therapy...

  15. I bet it will be no problem getting to the stadium.

  16. If you're a WVU fan it is.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Anyone hear Mr. S's big news? I'm listening, but maybe I missed it.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Anonymous10:33 AM

Longest trip of my life was the trip from Auburn to Tuscaloosa after the 1993 Iron Bowl. It took FOREVER to get to Montgomery.

    ReplyDelete
  19. So Monica, Why do you hate Rich Rod? You should enjoy what he did to WVU if you hate them.

    ReplyDelete
  20. eddie, the big news is that gridiron breakdown is going to be on a regular radio station during the week, I think it is going to be a Tuesday thing.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I don't hate Rich Rod.

Mr. S's show was picked up by a station I don't remember at the moment. That was the big news.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thats good news Steve and Monica.

    Congrats Mr. S. Well deserved.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Actually, I think I agree with the WV fans hating on Rich Rod. Admittedly the Michigan job is one of the highest profile coaching jobs in college football, but West Virginia has already made it clear they were willing to put up the cash to pay Rich Rod competitively. Apparently that wasn't enough for Rod. He wanted facilities improvements.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I appologize Monica. It is Brewster thing over Rich Rod today then.

    ReplyDelete
  25. "Auburn has just mixed themselves up." Can quotes from gridiron breakdown make it as the quote on HABOTN. I think that sums up our season.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Anonymous10:44 AM

The thing about Rich Rod and WVU is that he held WVU hostage the year before with the Alabama job to get concessions on contracts and facilities. Then very next year he dumps them to go to Michigan.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I thought the same thing Steve. Good quote by Mr. S.

    ReplyDelete
  28. No need to apologize, Eddie. I have a low opinion of Rich Rod's character (personal and professional), but I don't care where he coaches as long as it's not at Auburn.

Yep, I just want Tim Brewster to win.

    ReplyDelete
  29. what time is the game...?

    ReplyDelete
  30. FSJ, that is how I understood it. Apparently Rich Rod claimed WV didn't follow through with the facilities stuff. That seems a little far fetched when you can't expect a lot of facilities improvements to happen within a year.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I don't blame Rich Rod for "holding WV hostage". How many people would be willing to settle for the salary they are currently being paid if they knew they could get paid a lot more?

    ReplyDelete
  32. The game is at 2:30 central time.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Wooo Hoooo My man Kirk calling Marshall as the upset game. Y'all see him wink at me again? You bettcha.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Steve, I believe the game is 1:30 central time, or at least that is what the official site says.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Look at all those gorgeous pine trees in Baton Rouge. I sure miss pine trees.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Anonymous10:56 AM

I've got a couple of pine trees in my back yard that you can have.

    ReplyDelete
  37. You gonna bring them up here?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Anonymous10:59 AM

    Heck no...

I want somebody to come take them out of my back yard. While they are there, I also want them to rake the &$%&$&#@ leaves up too!

    ReplyDelete
  39. In that case you can just send me a picture.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Are y'all getting to see the Minnesota/Mich game on ESPN?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Thanks Eddie, I probably screwed up the time zone thingie.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Monica, I am getting the Mich/Minn game. It should be an interesting one.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I agree, Steve. I hope my mother-in-law has it on at her house. We have to play computer repair.

    See y'all later.

Thanks for the support today gang.

  45. Yahoo sports doesn't appear to be too bright. On their front page it reads "Knowshon Moreno and the Georgia Bulldogs aim to take out last week's loss to LSU on SEC rival Kentucky". I am pretty sure UGA kicked the crap out of LSU.

    ReplyDelete
  46. i've missed everything so far. it took me 1.5 hrs to get my internet back up and running today. grrrrr....

so, did anyone find a link to a free stream of this game today?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Since Jim Fyffe passed, I haven't really listened to the Auburn radio broadcast much. It just wasn't the same. Today is one of those days that it is a must. Maybe today will be different.

    ReplyDelete
  48. For free streams, go here.

    ReplyDelete
  49. steve, some of my best childhood memories are of listening to him call games on saturday afternoons/nights. i used to sit with my dad outside with the radio on re-creating the plays as they happened every game. man, the days before cable television in south alabama...good times.

    ReplyDelete
  50. The stream I am listening to is here.

    ReplyDelete
  51. if you were in knoxville i would hug you. ha. thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  52. scott, I have similar memories, but not just with Fyffe. I remember listening to the punt bama punt game and thinking we had lost until I realized that the second block wasn't a replay.

I also am familiar with the tradition of listening to the radio broadcast while watching the game on TV. We did this a lot on my grandparents farm.

The pre-game has some Jim Fyffe calls on now. It is still tough to imagine listening to Auburn without hearing Jim Fyffe. I can remember when Auburn switched to Fyffe. I was disappointed because I liked the previous guy, but Fyffe won me over quickly. Now I can't remember the previous guy's name.

    ReplyDelete
  53. That sounds very familiar. That could be it.

    ReplyDelete
  54. yup. the '72 PUNT BAMA PUNT was called by Gary Sanders and Gusty Yearout. i was 1/2 right anyways.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Gary Sanders is the guy I was thinking of. Man, it has been a lot of years.

    ReplyDelete
  59. man, Randall Cobb is looking really good running on this UGA defense. can't that be Kodi? hmmm....

    ReplyDelete
  60. I am not sure what we will do against UGA. I can see us upsetting Bama much more easily than Georgia.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Wow, Wyoming 13, Tennessee 0

Is there any way Fulmer could get even more fired?

    ReplyDelete
  62. 13-0. well, i guess that whole 'we're going to give all we have for Coach Fulmer' isn't all that much, eh?

    ReplyDelete
  63. KO in 15 minutes. Is this game on ESPN360?

    ReplyDelete
  64. not that i know of Mark.

    new thread up.

  65. My proof that you pretty much have the world figured out by age three.

From the mouth of my son, age 3:

"Daddy, we'll just make up the rules ... Like Kings do."
