Live from the yard sale

Hey everyone. Cold morning here in East Montgomery. Not many yard salers out and about. So it goes.

I will be live blogging the Auburn vs. George Washington game this afternoon. It tips at 1 p.m. CST.

Depending on my level of fatigue after that enterprise, we may hold a campfire during the Texas Tech @ Oklahoma game tonight. Toe meets leather at 7 p.m. CST.

Also, don't forget to get moving on your t-shirt orders.

West Virginia and Louisville ares showing each other the love in pregame...

So are Ohio State and Michigan...

Rodriguez to Clemson? I can't really see that happening. Michigan payed out the butt to get him and he hasn't been their long. On the other hand, I am pretty sure some West Virginia fans would be laughing their butts off if it did happen.

I've had a hard time seeing that too, Steve. However, nothing would surprise me.

I don't see Rich Rod moving so quickly.

Plus I'm sure in the 1st year of his deal he's got a big buyout.

yeah, i don't see rod going to clemson. petrino has done a good job of tearing down louisville and arkansas--maybe he would like to move to clemson.

We tried rotating quarterbacks and it didn't work out so good. Maybe we should try a different option, rotating head coaches. Why not have Fulmer, Tuberviller, and Tommy Bowden just rotate yearly between Auburn, Tennessee, and Clemson. That way we all get that feeling of change, but the consistency would also be there. Also, the other schools would never see this one coming.

godd one, steve. did anyone see the michigan player yelling at the coaches? now that's frustration.

Mon,

That is not the only time he has shot blanks.

Watching the UofL game against WVU. Why didn't our receivers have the same success? WVU is not looking that quick.

As far as the Rodriguez to Clemson rumor. Why not, I didn't think that Auburn would fire its offensive coordinator mid way thru the season.

Just like that. Pat White is gone for 6

Being a member of the "boo bird rabble", I naturally went to JCCW to enlighten me. So, I decided to read his latest blog. It starts off with the following theory:

"Yesterday I advanced a theory: Tide fans are less concerned with the Iron Bowl than the SEC championship game; ergo the Tide itself is less concerned with the Iron Bowl than the SEC championship game; thus Auburn's odds of victory in the Iron Bowl are greater than are perhaps widely believed."

Now, this is actual two, two, two theories in one. First, he believes the Tide "fans" are more concerned with the SECCG than the Iron Bowl. This is probably very true. I mean, to put it in Pat Dye terms, we have been a rolling ball of goo on offense this season.

But then he moves on to a more creative thought. He seems to feel that the fact the Alabama "fans" are more concerned with the SECCG will give Auburn a better chance of winning the Iron Bowl.

Now, that is an interesting theory and I really don't have any proof that it isn't correct, but I would like to propose that the concerns of the players may have a bigger affect on the outcome of the Iron Bowl than the concerns of the fans.

Yes, slap me, call me crazy, call me Wanda if you will, but I predict that the players will have a bigger affect on the outcome of the Iron Bowl than the fans will.

Speaking of Pat White - I had a WVU grad tell me yesterday that Pat White said the only thing football in the state of Alabama did for him was help him get out of Alabama. He went on to say, "So much for the SEC mystique..." and quoted me the number of SEC wins WVU had over SEC teams. All a part of one hour (ONE HOUR) of my life I will never get back thanks to his phone call.

I agree with you Steve. College football players are hard to figure out. Games you think they will ready to play. Georgia V. Alabama, Georgia came out FLAT in the first half. We never seem to play well against Ark. Whether we believe or not, has little to do with it unless someone is postulating that there is a cumulative Karma effect or that by actually being there, the mere presence is enough to get the stars in the right alignment.

I believe that Auburn can win. In doing so, they are most likely going to have to score more points against an SEC opponent than they have all year.

Question because I am too lazy to look. What is the highest scoring output this year against an SEC opponent. I believe we are going to need that plus an additional 6 to win.

Well, Pat White is a great QB, but I suspect he is still wishing he played in the SEC. If West Virginia was in the SEC they wouldn't be in the top half of the SEC. There is a big difference between playing a WV schedule versus an SEC schedule.

Although - Rich Rod and Bowden were at Tulane together in 1997...

hmmmmm...

12:09 PM
Blogger Denny Crum said...

Exactly. WVU has played SEC schools here and there. They have not played the meat grinder of SEC schools game in and game out.

12:12 PM
Blogger Monica said...

Yes, yes, yes...I offered that little bit of logic to the WVU grad. Do you think he embraced it?

I don't find your Rod to Clemson prediction so out of the realm of possibility. Coach R doesn't strike me as a particularly honorable man, he reminds me more of Bobby Petrino than Bo Schembechler

Monica, I doubt he could even conceive of it. I can't blame a fan for wanting to think their team is the bestest thing ever. Hawaii was the greatest team ever, until they played Georgia in the Sugar Bowl.

Steve - exactly, that's why I didn't invest a lot of energy in my theory. I engaged my "smile and nod" defense. It even works over the phone.

Denny - We share the same opinion of rich Rod and I've seen him and his family in action.

Monica, perhaps you approached the issue in the wrong way. Maybe a question would have helped. Clearly Alabama and Florida are the top teams in the SEC this season. If one of them had to play Pittsburg to make it to the BCSCG, which do you think they would be more concerned with: beating Pittsburg or the toppings on the pizza they would have after the game?

12:38 PM
Blogger Monica said...

I will make a note of that tactic and whip it out the next time I have to talk to that guy. Thank you. :-)

Meanwhile, I wonder if Rod Bramblett knows we can hear his off air comments via this channelsurfing link.

What an embarrassingly small crowd at the basketball game. Doesn't Auburn have a Sports Information/Marketing something department?
