That's a wrap from Oxford

I'm not going to drop the BANHAMMER on anyone.

Ron eased back. So has Chris. No problems.

I'm now leaving the press box here in Oxford, Miss., with plans to make it back to Montgomery no later than 10.

I don't think I can make a campfire work tonight. I started today in Tupelo at 8 a.m. I'm too old for all-nighters.

So peace and love to all.

(I will be checking back with the blog, though, so I'll work through any questions you have once I return.)

I don't believe the conspiracy stuff; I think CTT killed the season (inadvertantly) with the way he handled Franklin.

He shouldn't have hired Franklin at all if he wasn't going to commit fully to CTF's plan.

Firing a coach midseason is never a good option; there's no one else to blame now, Tubs.

10:20 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I guess Auburn players are about three steps slower than everyone else. TT seems to run a lot of the plays we were running earlier in the year, but they work for them, we looked like we're in slow motion. TT would definitely be succesful in the SEC, I'm not buying that the SEC defenses are a giant leap above the big 12.

AU doesn't recruit the athletes to run an offense close to this one. NOBODY on AU is as explosive as the WR's for TTech. We just got out recruited for a coupl eof years and it is hurting us now. Can't worry about recruiting now as the coaching change or threat of one, will make several look elsewhere, except thise that have only offers form us and Troy, UAB or Fla Atlantic.

wootang - I agree with your out-recruited point. AU was undefeated in 2004, should have cleaned house on recruiting for at least the next couple of years. Meaning, this year we should have lots of all-conference seniors playing a lot, not a lot of true freshmen who were not heavily recruited.

I think we can beat LSU, but with the game being down there it is a pick em', iMO.

Florida presents a difficult challenge should we get past LSU, MSU, & Auburn.

However, I don't think Florida has been punched in the mouth by a big, physical team this year. The closest would be Ole Miss and they had problems with them. That's what I am hoping for in that game, a brawl.

11:14 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Butch Davis comes up so often because he seems to be Nick Saban's equal. He is a tireless recruiter, he built a NC team at his last stop in college, even though Coker got the ring, it was definitely a team loaded with Butch Davis talent. Both coaches failed badly in the pros and are back in college. I think Butch Davis would make a good head coach.

Boise State's coach has done an outstanding job, but I would warn you that Colorado's coach Dan Hawkins was almost that successful at the same school and is struggling big time.

I probably like Muschamp the best. I think he has the fire to win and win big. He has been under some great coaches and has the ability to put together a top notch staff. That would be my vote for HC.

Davis has a $2M buyout, it seems like that should play some role. You'll have to spend $8M to buyout contracts and then you're paying him $4M/year. Also, he's 57, how many years does he want to coach.

I think it will be interesting to see Muschamp as a HC no matter where he lands. It'll be interesting to see how his motivational tactics translate to a HC position.

Don't think davis would come. Had a friend of mine who told me that sexton said he wasn't and he meant he wasn't coming not "nick satan" he isn't coming.

Leach seems reasonable to me although he doesn't have "the look" that we would expect from a successful HC and recruiter

Muschamp is a huge huge huge roll of the dice. i hear alot that he's the next stoops or satan but my personal thoughts are that he would be inheriting quite a bit more than either satan or stoops did in their first jobs. the fall could be potentially greater.

Don't think C. Peterson from Boise St because of some religious reasons and believe it or not that would factor in at a school like Auburn.

Gundy won't leave OSU in my opinion (he was a QB there) nor would T. Boone let him get away.

The buyout for Jim Bo Fisher would be massive although he would probably come despite being the heir apparent at FSU.

My only other thoughts would be people like Brian Kelley at Cincy, Bronco Mendenhall at BYU, Kyle Wittingham at Utah, Jim Grobe at Wake maybe a Skip Holtz, a Turner Gill, or my personal favorite dark horse Chris Hatcher from Georgia St. (maybe the next Jim Tressel)

Hatcher is the real deal. knows how to win. knows how to run a program. Leach would be a huge pickup; but, if you think AU with all of our political BS can pull a potential #1 in the nation coach from his cushy seat, you are high on biscuit dough.

that being said, if he comes, he would be great.

Eddie ... I like you my man. But honestly ... Muschamp. We don't want him. He is all hype. Look at the Texas stats. They have no real defense. If you took Will's body of work to AU this year, we would be o-fer. The only team that didn't get more than 200 yds. against them was Arkansas. Everybody else ... lots of yards. So we get Muschamp and we will have what we have right now.

Muschamp as head coach = a really fired up DC who can't stop the other team and an offense that can't score enough to keep up. What does that get you? Exactly what we have right now except worse.

Texas offense makes Mushchamp look better than he is.

11:58 PM

T Tech probably won't be #1 after this next week when OSU beats them. Leach would come i believe he would be the HC of one of the premier programs in the premier league. Today the best T Tech can hope to be is the 3rd most prestegious programs in their own state. He'd come i really think that.

I'm a 2002 AU Grad and love the AUBURN TIGERS almost more than my very first unborn little girl that will bless me with her presence this coming Wednesday. Plus i've always been a CTT supporter and was praying he wouldn't leave when the Texas A&M and Arkie rumors were flying last Nov/Dec. But can someone please answer a few serious questions for me?

What makes you think if CTT stays and brings in a solid OC along with other needed staff changes that he'll be able to take a hands-off approach with the O given his history?

Do you really think he can pull off another 04 type season next year with the current talent we have and lack of leadership or QB development?

Isn't there a valid issue with his recruiting capabilities when saban can come in and go 6-6 his first year and pull the top 15 or so instate players we go head to head with?

I'm officially off the CTT bandwagon and believe the quote "those afraid of change are left behind in mediocrity" more and more every Saturday.
