Assistants are off to visit recruits

One of Auburn's two jets, similar to the one pictured at left, has been dispatched to Mobile and onward to Palm Beach, Fla., for a recruiting visit.

If those assistants have been fired -- as has been reported on radio -- they certainly haven't gotten the memo.

UPDATE: Tuberville and Jacobs recently (3:30ish?) together via car and headed upstairs ... presumably for more discussions. I'm guessing they were returning from the president's office.

  1. Nall hasn't done anything positive all year. He will probably tell the recruits to go elsewhere

    ReplyDelete
  2. Who was the other one?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Jay- Do you know which assistants acutally left on the plane?

    ReplyDelete
  4. Planes make me think of Top Gun.

    Slider.....{sniiiffff}...you stink.

    Nothing will change.

Tubs will stay along with everyone but Ensmonger.

    That's my prediction.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Cobra C- I hope you are wrong

    ReplyDelete
  7. Will, email me if something major happens. I have to go do some work for an hour or so.

And get me some damn b-ball tix. Only the women's games though.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Word.... LP

I'll keep any eye out for the Tix.

    ReplyDelete
  9. i don't know if anyone's raised this point, but can you imagine the crowing from the bama nation if tuberville is fired? i'm fairly sure that they'll be saying that croom, fulmer and tuberville were "sabanized," regardless of the facts on the ground.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I hear what you're saying Scott, but I decided a while back to ignore 100% of everything spewed from the UAT faithful. I even moved back to AU about 2 mos ago to TRY to avoid them.

    ReplyDelete
  11. will, that's got to be tough, given all the opelika tide folks. mush easier out here, though.

    ReplyDelete
  12. why does everyone thin he will be fired?

    ReplyDelete
  13. i don't know if anyone's raised this point, but can you imagine the crowing from the bama nation if tuberville is fired?

All the bammers I know are in the same position that the AU Tiger faithful were in a couple of years back. We all wanted Bammer to keep Mike Shula back then. They all want us to keep Tuberville now.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Scott don't forget about Bowden

    ReplyDelete
  15. Well I guess I am reading the flight tracker right then.

    ReplyDelete
  16. WTF?

    http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2008/12/is_auburn_looking_at_texas_tec.html

    Also reaching out to Petrino?

    CRAP!

    ReplyDelete
  17. wow, both terrible hires

    ReplyDelete
  18. Well I guess I am reading the flight tracker right then.

My understanding is that AU had the FAA remove AU aircraft from the publicly trackable flight data. Anyone know different?

    ReplyDelete
  19. What can I say, guys?

I don't have anyone telling me about Leach/Petrino. Can't tell you anything about that.

Assuming that's true, Auburn's plan to fire Tuberville better be in place.

Otherwise, they're in a remarkably compromised position from a contractual standpoint.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The people who run auburn football are clowns if that is true

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well, Roman, I'm looking at it and see where they are headed to Mobile and then Plam Springs. I think Lowder's plane is no longer tracked tho...

    ReplyDelete
  22. Roman, that is incorrect.

I track Auburn flights. They were "blocked," but I still watch them.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Why is F-baum not mentioning the non sec west clause in Petrino's contract? Someone please explain it to me...

    ReplyDelete
  24. Jay and Kristina have their methods of tracking.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The Seeker, how are you so familiar with what Nall has done this season?

Cobra, I don't really see Ensminger as part of the problems, but it is possible. I would think Knox would be on the hit list if an offensive position coach was to go.

I have just got back from work. I hung out there about 5 hours and it appears there has been no news except a plane ride for coaches.

It does appear that rumors are flying about, but I don't put too much faith in them.

My guess is Tuberville will be back with a revised contract.

    ReplyDelete
  26. My dad and my uncle are opelika uat fans and they are awful

    ReplyDelete
  27. If Leach is hired will Chris Todd start next year?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Otherwise, they're in a remarkably compromised position from a contractual standpoint.

If it was an "unofficial/unsanctioned" contact with plausible deniability, I think AU would be in the clear. Regardless, I pretty much expect a change to be made.

Any current guess on the percentages, Jay?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Kristina ... I don't see a clause laying out penalties for the SEC West thing.

    ReplyDelete
  30. interesting question, just win.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I just don't see the Pat Dye crowd handling Leach very well.

Not that I'm entirely sure about him anyway. The guy may be winning, but he hasn't won any championships (albeit he's behind the 8 ball in that division, but still).

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anonymous3:24 PM

An unofficial Auburn representative has reached out to people close to Arkansas' Bobby Petrino and Texas Tech's Mike Leach to gauge their interest in succeeding Tommy Tuberville if the school decides to fire him, a source familiar with the contacts told The Birmingham News

Can someone tell me what an unofficial representative is?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Bama fans are wonderful folks...Just ask Kristina.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Jay, where does k. scarbinsky get all of his "stories". Does he just throw crap against the wall and see what sticks?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Get off your ass and do something???

bobby lowder, byron franklin and etc.

    ReplyDelete
  37. JGT: Roman, that is incorrect. I track Auburn flights. They were "blocked," but I still watch them.

Thanks for the info. I figured someone here would have the straight dope. Shoulda figured it would be you. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. I guess we're all unofficial auburn representatives

    ReplyDelete
  39. Exactly jay, it just says he promises he won't and he would be in violation if he did. And later it says is he violates the contract then he has to pay the buy out. I think it could happen from a legal point of view...

    ReplyDelete
  40. Can I be an unofficial Auburn representative?

If so, I'm about to get on the horn to Rocky Felker, Gerry Dinardo, & Johnny Majors on behalf of AU.

    ReplyDelete
  41. This is a circus run by retarded clowns

    ReplyDelete
  42. Steve our O-line was terrible and the rumored tiff with Franklin

    ReplyDelete
  43. I can't believe Jay's percentage is up to 97.25%. What new has influenced this Jay?

I wouldn't mind Mike Leach as the coach, but if Petrino comes, I may become an Ole Miss fan.

    ReplyDelete
  44. autiger: Off your ass?

    ReplyDelete
  45. We're contacting Dabo Swinney, too.

    Just kidding, Harrison.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think we should hire Gary Danielson!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Jay, I think he meant Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  48. This is insane Hotties..speculation..rumors..unofficial this and that..been a while since we've been here and I didn't have the HABOTN to keep me warm..craziness

    ReplyDelete
  49. Surprised it's not 99.44.

    ReplyDelete
  50. JET:I figured...I don't really liek Dabo, but I do like his name, and how he weasled into a h.c. job

    ReplyDelete
  51. FYI ... I don't think Hugh Nall went south.

    It was Rhoads and Willis.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Seeker, I was asking what Nall has done, not the results of the offensive line, which were highly a result of Franklin's philosophy of smaller quicker linemen. I have no doubt about Nall's ability to coach linemen, but I would be interested if he has been something disruptive. I just hadn't heard that.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Would Rhodes and Willis be likely to stay even if tubs is gone??

    ReplyDelete
  54. Why does Petrino's name always come up? He was at Auburn for ONE freaking year for God's sake.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Rhoads and Willis ... makes sense ... everybody else gets kicked to the street immediately.

    ReplyDelete
  56. If they are firing Tuberville, they are doing it in the slowest, most painful way possible, which ain't good.

    ReplyDelete
  57. If they are firing Tuberville, they are doing it in the slowest, most painful way possible, which ain't good.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Petrino is incredibly popular with some people on the inside.

    ReplyDelete
  59. they needed to leave to avoid the bullets about to fly...

    ReplyDelete
  60. Willis would be a solid candidate to stay, for sure, in my book. Rhoads, depends on a lot of factors, I would guess.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Jay, what caused the jump in your percentage?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Steve, paybacks are ... well, uncomfortable.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I agree with Jet on this one. 2 that are likely to stay

    ReplyDelete
  64. Percentage jump: Too many unusual things happening concurrently.

    ReplyDelete
  65. some ATL station is saying nall is interviewing with south carolina

    ReplyDelete
  66. So, Jay. If he's gone do you still think he doesn't coach anywhere else?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Kum Ba Ya, my Lord
    Kum Ba Ya!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Auburn will be the national media's punching bag if we fire Tuberville and hire Petrino.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Barkley ... tis true ... until we starting winning.

    Just look across the state.

    ReplyDelete
  70. No Nall on the plane makes alot of sense.

Why do they need to "contact" someone like Petrino and/or Leach today. I would think that there would've had to have been some sort of contact before today to know if the conversation was worth pursuing.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Jay's spider sense is tingling

    ReplyDelete
  72. Are you adding the B'ham news up on the rumor thread?

    ReplyDelete
  73. So was Bama/Saban until this year

    ReplyDelete
  74. Ill get Franklin to drive over from the Christmas tree lot and give you a pep talk if needed. I need the info a little faster than you are providing. Can't you hack into something and get us the facts.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I don't think he'll coach anywhere else.

Just knowing him, he'll take the big check and do something less stressful.

    ReplyDelete
  76. autiger's looking for the BANHAMMER. ha.

    easy fo sheezy.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Jay, did they really show up in a car and were not in Tubs' office?

    ReplyDelete
  78. I would like Dabo Sweeney as the next head coach, but it is only because I like how it feels to say Dabo Sweeney.

As a radical change in strategy, I have switched from wearing my Hawaiian shirt, to my HABOTN shirt. Lets see how this works out.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Anonymous3:39 PM

Why would Petrino leave Arkansas if asked? He is in college football, he is in the SEC, and he is in the SEC West? Just askin.

    ReplyDelete
  80. I know where that Bham story came from and I'm not ready to throw that on the RRR just yet.

    ReplyDelete
  81. JG, you with this Rick Carley (sp?) fellow that was just on Finebaum?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Is there any way to be more than 100% against something? If so, then that is how much I oppose hiring Petrino.

    ReplyDelete
  83. HABOTN t-shirts rule! atta boy SFC!

    ReplyDelete
  84. What Bham story?

    I must be distracted.... ahem.

    ReplyDelete
  85. If he is fired, this is just about the most horribly mishandled pile o crap ever.

I once again am a bama fan. Roll tide!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Petrion's not leaving because it would kill what little credibility he has left. But clearly Auburn is a better job than Arkansas.

    ReplyDelete
  87. In the blogging world, they say you're nobody until you have a troll.

    I feel more legitimate! Yay.

The newspaper will be so proud of me.

    ReplyDelete
  88. scottie,

    I just tried it on....

Nice shirt, but I threw up in my mouth a little.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Anonymous3:41 PM

Oh I might have done that already Jay. Is it the unoffical representative story?

    ReplyDelete
  90. michael, you need to channel your inner Jan Terri and 'simma downnna.'

    ReplyDelete
  91. Scottie B: With him?

I was talking with the Fox 6 guys outside a few moments ago ...

    ReplyDelete
  92. Are we still hatin Bama? Cause I hat Finebaum..I'm listening so that I can keep up...usually can't handle it..

    ReplyDelete
  93. what bham story?

    ReplyDelete
  94. is it really that clear that Auburn is a better job than arkansas? I mean, I think so, but I am biased. I am not so sure the layperson would agree there is much of a difference.

    ReplyDelete
  95. C'mon Jay spill the beans about the B'ham stuff. We NEEEEED a fix, man. I gotta know.

Hey Michael, way to stay classy. Real talk, I would have never guessed you for a Tide fan. I mean that as a compliment.

    ReplyDelete
  96. michael, I agree. If Tuberville is getting the ax, they are doing it horribly. One quick swing at the next would do it. I don't think gently easing the ax into the neck makes it less painful.

I will be seriously upset if Petrino is the man.

    ReplyDelete
  97. The news reported that unofficial reps from Auburn have contacted Petrino and Leach.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Jay:
Do you think we have some solid answers today/tonight? Or do you see this dragging out a few more days?

    ReplyDelete
  99. Jay, Rick Karle just said that Tuberville just pulled up in the parking lot with Jacobs lauging and joking around.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Jay G : i meant are all the media guys chillin' together waiting on this thing to go down?

    ReplyDelete
  101. I'm reading Sun Tzu's Art of War plus the Art of Selling by Gary Gagilardi.

    Anyone seen/read/heard of it?

    ReplyDelete
  102. So after taking this all in from 1,000 miles away over the last few days, I finally decided to sign up and share my worthless thoughts:

Tubs is gone. You don't go through all of this without some public affirmation before now. It's just been too much to overcome, and to be honest, it's probably the best thing just to get rid of the self-inflicted headache that is the AU administration.

Mike Leach and Bobby Petrino are both HORRIBLE ideas. I just don't see how either would fit well on the Plains or that our fan base would get behind them whole heartedly.

If either was contacted without an official, I will be highly disappointed in the administration. Nothing is more important at Auburn than our academic standing. If we don't have that, we don't have a school worth going to and therefore no football program that will compete. Remember, SACS was highly upset about the 2003 fiasco and we nearly lost our accredidation.

So in conclusion, I know nothing, except that Auburn could use a really good PR manager.

I leave you with the soothing though of:

    "The dude abides."

    ReplyDelete
  103. Thanks Will. I am the epitome of class

(makes fart noise by blowing air into hands pressed against mouth)

    ReplyDelete
  104. I am interesting in defining who some of the board (or SOBs for short) is that want Petrino.

    ReplyDelete
  105. OK, I am off the ledge. I took watched some Jan Terri "Little Brother" and I am cool. F bama.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Well Auburn has recently been snagging the top players out of the state of Arkansas so........

    ReplyDelete
  107. Jay,

Any guess on why this is taking so long? I would think that if they are going to fire him, it would have been cleared up by this point. Due to the length of the "negotiations" it seems like they are discussing nuanced items, not the big picture stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Mike Leach's sytem brough M. Crabtree to Lubbock TX for God's sake.

    Could he recruit to AU?

    ReplyDelete
  109. I think today made me dumber

    ReplyDelete
  110. john, prevailing winds say that AU is stalling until they have a bew head coach in place.

I wanna see Tubs giggling, finebaum...

    ReplyDelete
  111. Jet G. Ate proudly lists himself as one who would be plenty happy with Petrino.

If that makes me an SOB, SOB it.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Crabtree went to Texas Tech because Texas told him he couldn't play offense there.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I'm going to have to insist that y'all calm down a lil bit.

    Breathe in through the mouth
    Hold 2,3,4,5
    Out through the nose 3,4,5

    chiiillllll....

    ReplyDelete
  114. Kristina:

Hope y'all have a bew head coach soon...

    :-)

    ReplyDelete
  115. Tony Franklin followed Leach as OC at Kentucky, correct?

    ReplyDelete
  116. Where do you think Tubs and Jacobs went? Back to Tubs to play some 360?

    ReplyDelete
  117. barkley,

I think they went to Baskin Robbins

    ReplyDelete
  118. Are they still meeting or did they slip out the back? Someone said they saw Tub at Colonial getting a cashiers check?

    ReplyDelete
  119. Fine, call me out for my typo Faker, but I already corrected it so there! (sticks tongue out)

    ReplyDelete
  120. Monica, we do need a calming influence. This is getting too stressful.

How about Jan Terri for head coach? I do think she would intimidate opponents.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Maybe Jay was showing CTT his new farm in lochapoka.

    ReplyDelete
  122. I'm glad Jay doesn't report everything he hears as fact like some of these douche bags do. At least we know when he says something that it's true.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Kristina:

    I'm all for accuracy...

    ReplyDelete
  124. It amazes me how many more posts there are when nothing is happening.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Monica ... we're fine ... Steve asked a question, and he's an honorable man ... so I answered him.

I'm just the friendly neighborhood psychopath that would be pleased to have either Petrino or Muschamp as head coach.

    ReplyDelete
  126. It's all very confusing. Not sure what to tell you right now.

They talk, they break, they talk more.

I have no idea what's going to happen with this.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I think its pretty obvious now the powers that be are trying to nail down a new coach by the end of the night. Thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  128. As best I can tell, Tuberville and Jacobs currently are meeting.

It's basically impossible for one reporter to cover all access points to this building. I can't see everything ...

    ReplyDelete
  129. FSJ, what flavor do you think Tuberville got? Vanilla?

    ReplyDelete
  130. Maybe Willis is visiting that coach from Vigor...

    ReplyDelete
  131. Jay,

I hate these one day chat sessions/meetings where you are stuck with that one person constantly.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Jay - Was that code for "Monica and Kristina please come help me cover the Complex!"?

Cuz you know we be right on that brotha mayun!

    ReplyDelete
  133. I thought last year, Tubby would have been a good fit for Arky. and petrino could have come to AU. May still happen.

Petrino is the real deal. Problem is, he would be a fool to jump this soon.

As far as jobs, imo, it is always better to be at the "Named" state school. i.e. Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia. So, from that standpoint, Arkansas would be better than Auburn. Might not count for much.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I am about to have to do real work for a while and I bet something awesome will happen during that time...damn

    ReplyDelete
  135. I think the plane was picking up Willis from Mobile and taking him along with Rhoads to Palm Beach.

    ReplyDelete
  136. C'mon Monica the cat signal has been lit...

    ReplyDelete
  137. Cat signal?

    MEEEEOOOOOWWWWWW!

    ReplyDelete
  138. Mark,

Arkansas is not a better job than Auburn, and i think most everyone (impartial) would agree.

    ReplyDelete
  139. i will volunteer to help cover as well jay. especially if mon and the zoo keeper show up...

    ReplyDelete
  140. Jay, You want me to come up there, I could go to the MR office and then sneak around the corner.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Maybe Willis is trying to recruit some of these guys from mobile.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nda_OSWeyn8

    ReplyDelete
  142. I know what is taking so long... Lowder is waiting for that bailout check to clear.

    ReplyDelete
  143. I only live about 4 miles from the athletics office. i could go. I know Will would love it. Will might walk right into Tubs office

    ReplyDelete
  144. I don't care if Arkansas has the state name or not, that's really irrelevant. Who owns the all-time series? Who is more consistent in recruiting? Who is more consistent in winning seasons? That's the relevant stuff. I know I'm biased but I still think most people would agree Auburn is the better job.

    ReplyDelete
  145. If Auburn does fire Tuberville, then I agree with Kevin Scarbinsky's column "Tuberville deserves better." If we fire him, then fire him. Don't drag this out indefinitely.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Yep, it's on goldberg

    ReplyDelete
  147. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Jay, can you confirm this for us???

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  157. It's not fun, folks. It never is. But it's the best move in the long run for him and for Auburn.

He didn't have the fire, and, boy, do we need fire.

    Let the real fun begin.

    ReplyDelete
  158. al.com says Tuberville out at Auburn on the front page.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Anonymous4:11 PM

    Rumor de moment

I wait for Jay G confirmation before I believe.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Tommy Tuberville is out as Auburn's football coach, The Birmingham News has learned.

An official announcement could come today.
    Tommy Tuberville
Tuberville was 85-40 in 10 years at Auburn, and is 110-60 in 14 years as a college head coach. His final season at Auburn ended with a 36-0 loss to Alabama last Saturday to finish off a disappointing 5-7 record.

Tuberville met with Athletics Director Jay Jacobs on Tuesday and Wednesday. He met with university President Jay Gogue on Monday.

Tuberville is fourth all time in wins in Auburn. He was the fourth-longest tenured coach in school history. Tuberville's best season was also Auburn's best season. The Tigers were 13-0 in 2004.

    ReplyDelete
  161. JD- You got you some Tate man love?

    ReplyDelete
  162. I thought we werent supposed to post the competition's stuff?

    ReplyDelete
  163. It's certainly plausible.

    Can't confirm just yet.

    p.s.: I love haters. I do.

    ReplyDelete
  164. Sorry Kristina...forgive me Jay.

    ReplyDelete
  165. I'm OK with posting those links right now. It's a highly unusual situation.

    ReplyDelete
  166. bill cameron really doesn't care about what petrino's agent says...don't forget bob petrino

    ReplyDelete
  167. If Tuberville really is fired, it brings down the attractiveness of Auburn's Head Football Coach as a job. No one good is going to want to take a job under an uneven administration that will cut a coach at the knees after one bad season. Auburn has enjoyed unprecedented success under Tuberville. This insecurity is why we can't acheive consistent success.

    ReplyDelete
  168. jay, get this clown of the site

    ReplyDelete
  169. well....if this is true and a new coach is not announced by Friday...TOTAL DISASTER

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  174. Let's not go into total panic and say the coach has to be here in 48 hours.
