Michael Jan - You mentioned that lastnight. It was an emotional evening, they were not given any chance and it may have been the biggest win in Buffalo's history. There is a story where they refused a bowl game because the black players were not allowed to come in '57 I think.
Michael 3 years ago Gill's team had the longest losing streak in football history or something like that. These kids belived in his leadership and won a championship. That's worth a tear or two right?
And Danielsen saying Julio Jones is the best Freshman wide receiver he's ever seen can only mean he didn't see Randy Moss. Moss 26 TD's his first year.
giddy with excitement.. me: I love my Auburn girl wife: I hate bama wife: the ball hit the ground. I'm a dumb girl and I know it (actually, she's incredibly intelligent)
I still hate Brandon Spikes and Florida in general, but it is a pretty good day. I rooted so hard for the gators, but not that we're hear, I feel dirty.
I don't Turner Gill is a real candidate. Now having said that, I am impressed with what he has done at Buffalo. You could extrapolate that to the type of success that he could have Auburn. I think he is young enough to really make inroads on recruiting. There are a lot of variables with a young coach that must be considered.
More about Gill... I used to hate the way Bowden was all emotional on the sideline, looking like he peed his pants after every big play, like instead of watching football he was watching someone tightrope walk over a shark tank. I would like someone solid as a rock who can pump his guys up.
Turner Gill may be that guy. I know zero about him. But c'mon, crying? I dunno.
I am all for getting this guy. He's a young coach out to make a name for himself. I like that! I'm excited about the possibility of having a minority coach at AU also. Hopefully that will put an end to all the negative feelings about AU and the race issue. I have seen this guy on tv and in interviews on youtube... always classy. I like that we are going after him. Just my opinion.
Paul Johnson is the class of the those names mentioned (and who have not withdrawn from consideration yet). For that reason, it is doubtful he would leave after only one year at GTech and even more doubtful GTech would him go (rumors are they will make him the highest paid ACC Coach next week). Wish Tubby could have quit last year or would wait a few more years if he so wants to leave. Last year there were many good ones out there, this year, nothing promising. Saban and Bama will eat our lunch for a long time to come without a really special hire. Get Leach, he is the anti-coach and we need an opposite to Saban.
My cocern with Gill is this. He is coaching at a school with zero expectations. It is one thing to sneak up on folks but when you are expected to perform it is something else. I would be more fired up if he was at a higher profile job.
32, you're losing credibility by the nanosecond by even mentioning Mike Leach, he's not even under consideration at this point. I think too many Auburn fans are worried about Bama and Nick Saban and not what's best for Auburn. What's best for Auburn will be what beats the Bammers.
Sean, with all due respect, Gill's record as a head coach is 15-21. True, he has improved each of his 3 years as a HC, and he has worked with some good programs as an assistant. (We are hiring a HC, not an assistant, remember.) I respect him, and if he can SUSTAIN his success at Buff, then I'd feel a lot better about him here at AU. Problem is, we need someone now. 15-21 is not a winning record, and even his best year (8-5) won't cut it here.
Sean, you obviously haven't a clue. Leach hasn't been eliminated by AU and he hasn't withdrawn from the AU "list" yet. Why don't you talk to Carr & Assoc. and some of the folks in the AU A Dept. and stop drinking the Crimson Kool-Aid. What, in Gill's or Saban's history makes you think that the former could beat the latter in any way on any day? My credibility may be evaporating with you, (as if I cared), but your Crimson and White underwear is starting to bleed through that AU t-shirt.
Oh No, the ITAT Bammer name callers have come out of the closet on HABOTN. 32, you are crazy to call me an Alabama fan. That's ludicrous. I'm interested in what a guy can do to win football games. Gill has proved that he can in his short time at a program that frequented the ESPN Bottom 10 a record number of times. Quite frankly the fact that you would call me a Crimson wearer is laughable. Take your attitude back to Al.com and ITAT or whatever other self-proclaimed insider or knowledgeable fan board you came from.
32FORD, I agree. I looked up TG's head coaching record and it is just 15W - 21L. And this at a MAC School! Leach is the flavor of the day, and I'd prefer a Petersen, Johnson, or ideally, Muschamp, if they were available--but they aren't. So, we'll pay a premium price but I think Leach will be a good foil to Bama's Big Boy.
WDEHEY, 2-10 first year, 5-7 second year, 8-5 Mac Champs in year 3...it's not just about overall record...but which direction you're headed. Tommy had a very good overall record but was headed the wrong way. Context is key.
I haven't called you any names (yet), and even though you questioned my credibility (thereby making it personal) I was only jesting about your inability to see things through anything other than Crimson-colored glasses. You are the one who defined 15-21 as "all I see is a winner."
Lighten up, we all want AU back on top after laying down this year.
Sean, Talk about context!!!The MAC is not the SEC. Heck, it's not even the ACC! I am not saying that Auburn could not gain much by interviewing and hiring a minority coach for HFBC, but we should do so only when he (or she) is the best man (or woman) for the job. I have to agree with 32ford: it is a p.c. pick, not one based on merits. Your passion for TG is admirable, maybe you should learn more about him, more about the MAC, more about football....
I sincerely doubt we are going to pick a coach based on anything other than what he can do with a football program.
32ford: 8-5 has been good enough for AU for the last 10 years so please shut up now.
If a man can turn Buffalo into a winner in three years, then quite obviously he is just that ... a winner. I like winners. I think I have made that clear in the past.
32...my apologies, I was also merely jesting about your credibility. You're absolutely right on all we want is our program to make the right decision. I think you're spot on about Paul Johnson, I'm not a fan of a Mike Leach hire, however. As for Turner Gill, I think we're going to have to agree to disagree. WDE, Hey, if you look at some of the great coaches around the country, many of them had great success in the MAC before moving on to bigger and better things. I don't follow the logic of putting SEC football on the pedestal. Football is football and some guys just get it. If you disagree that's fine. War Eagle to everyone.
THAT IS THE BEST NEWS I'VE HEARD ALL WEEK!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'M STOKED IF YOU CAN'T TELL!!!!!!!
Hack covering Auburn and bama precisely simultaneously? Good times.
ReplyDeleteI find it very exciting, but I'm not investing in any coach until I know it's a done deal. This thing can get too crazy.
ReplyDeleteMonica- I assure you it would not have gotten to this point if they didn't agree already. This is all a formality at this point.
ReplyDeleteWhat is this point? A phone call? Sounds final to me.
ReplyDeleteIf this is the choice....would this be the big splash?
ReplyDeleteHorrible offensive playcalling in the red zone.
ReplyDeleteEddie,
ReplyDeleteI thought you said your money was on Muschamp? Change of heart?
Nevermind, nice call.
ReplyDeleteWe want SEVEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMan I hope this is our man!! But I'm like you Monica I dont want to invest too much of myself just yet
ReplyDeleteExciting news, but I'll wait for an announcement!
ReplyDeletewife: why do we hate UA-T so much
ReplyDeleteme: we're supposed to
can someone give me a better answer, please
Demps is like unhumanly fast. Sis you see him in their spring game run a 4.27?
ReplyDeleteSaban is never not coaching. I like that.
ReplyDeleteCurtime- I thought they had their coach, I was just assuming Muschamp based on all the chatter.
ReplyDeleteI still believe they still have their coach.
Turner Gill is something like 15-22 as a head coach. =/
ReplyDeletegotcha.
ReplyDeleteMARTHA FOCKER!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGo gators!
ReplyDeleteMan, those bama fans sound a lot louder than the gator fans.
fsj..
ReplyDeletewho is she?
TarHeel - It's Alabama...I don't think you need anything else.
ReplyDeleteBut seriously, are we all OK Gill cried after winning that game? Really, are we?
ReplyDeleteTarheel tell her it's like the Hatfields and McCoys...once you're born into a family it's part of the tradition.
ReplyDeletehere comes the fumble!
ReplyDeleteSo he is in touch with his feminine side. What is wrong with that?
ReplyDeleteboo hoo
ReplyDeleteI hope he's ok... tomorrow
Michael Jan - You mentioned that lastnight. It was an emotional evening, they were not given any chance and it may have been the biggest win in Buffalo's history. There is a story where they refused a bowl game because the black players were not allowed to come in '57 I think.
ReplyDeleteSit Down!!
ReplyDeleteYEAHHHHHHHHHHHH
ReplyDeleteSACK!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteMichael 3 years ago Gill's team had the longest losing streak in football history or something like that. These kids belived in his leadership and won a championship. That's worth a tear or two right?
ReplyDeleteSorry Michael -1958
ReplyDeletehttp://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=buffalo58
They should do a urine test on Arenas right now.
ReplyDeleteAnd Danielsen saying Julio Jones is the best Freshman wide receiver he's ever seen can only mean he didn't see Randy Moss. Moss 26 TD's his first year.
Gill's emotion is what AU needs. He sat down and developed a close relationship with every one of his players.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure Turner Gill wasn't there in 1957.
ReplyDeleteI'm not so sure I want to go 2-10 or 1-11 to get to where we want to be.
ReplyDeleteFaker! You're jinxing yourself by posting during the game! Dude I'm seriously shocked.
ReplyDeleteYou go Mon!!
ReplyDeleteFSJ is getting in touch with his feminine side right about now.
ReplyDeletePF - Thanks for that. I think it was more of the history of it and the racism. I could be wrong, maybe he is just a sap.
ReplyDeleteIs it mathematical certainty that UF jumps UT in BCS with a win?
ReplyDeleteBarkley- Buffalo was the laughing stock of Football before Turner Gill got there and now they are champions of the MAC.
ReplyDeleteSWEET!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSweet Florida
ReplyDeleteI'm going to put my Tim Tebow pajamas on.
ReplyDeleteDang Tebow is accurate! I really miss accurate QBs
ReplyDeleteWhat a grab!!
ReplyDeletewow! I hope our next coach can recruit these kind of players
ReplyDeleteOk ok Eddie, I like the guy and what he stands for...
ReplyDeleteBut be careful what you wish for. Buffalo to Auburn is a BIG jump.
Great news. Good news is Tebow on the 1yd line.
ReplyDeleteThe mark of how good the next HC will be will be who he surrounds himself with. What type of assistant coaches. that type of stuff.
ReplyDeleteHuge penalty and Barkley Huge jump.
ReplyDeleteBall game fellas!
ReplyDeleteWHOO HOO!!
ReplyDeleteYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great drive
ReplyDeleteBye Bye Bama. Enjoy the Sugar Bowl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOOOHHHH Spread was 10
ReplyDeleteI'm the biggest Florida Gator fan you've ever met right now.
ReplyDeleteDang......
ReplyDeleteI swear these oddsmakers know something. Florida's a 10.5 point favorite, no one thinks they will cover and it looks like they're going to win by 11.
ReplyDeleteThe proverbial nail in the coffee...ur coffin?
ReplyDeleteBarkley- Agreed, but East Carolina to Auburn was a huge jump also.
ReplyDeleteDown goes Fraizer!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeletebarkley---
ReplyDeletethat would be my wife, non-stop chomping the past 15 minutes.
GO GATORS!!!!!!!!!!!! I love them!!!!!!!!!!
Good point Eddie
ReplyDeleteI should be happy the bammers are going down, but I"m upset that the gaytors are gonna win. I think my emotions are neutral at this point.
ReplyDeleteIs Tebow going to kiss that dude?
ReplyDeletePat Dye was 48-18 at East Carolina though.
ReplyDeleteI'll support whoever comes.
6-5 at Wyoming in '80
ReplyDeletegiddy with excitement..
ReplyDeleteme: I love my Auburn girl
wife: I hate bama
wife: the ball hit the ground. I'm a dumb girl and I know it
(actually, she's incredibly intelligent)
Hey Bama! Gators just beat the hell outta you!
ReplyDeleteRammer Jammer Yellow Hammer
Go to Hell, Alabama!
I don't believe East Carolina was in nearly as bad shape as Buffalo was. They have had one winning season I believe and champions of nothing.
ReplyDeleteyea, what she said (Mon)
ReplyDeleteEverybody stay off the road because there is about to be some drinking Bammers out there.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, something to think about all...Every Coach since Dye has coached a game in Jordan-Hare as a head coach.
ReplyDeletePour it on!
ReplyDeleteSorry FSJ
Meth labs all over alabama are getting emergency calls right now.
ReplyDeleteOk, going to sing Happy Bday to the young boy!!
ReplyDeleteTake care all!!
throw a long bomb; I'm greedy, I want another 7 on the board for UF
ReplyDeleteIf they were really committed they go for 7 more!
ReplyDeleteEddie,
ReplyDeleteFascinating bit of trivia there.
FSJ - you have my sympathy
ReplyDeleteI still hate Brandon Spikes and Florida in general, but it is a pretty good day. I rooted so hard for the gators, but not that we're hear, I feel dirty.
If you can't appreciate what a machine Tebow is on so many levels then you're just a hater.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't straddling a fence like that make you sore, Michael?
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, AU1N04 Jr.!
ReplyDeleteI don't Turner Gill is a real candidate. Now having said that, I am impressed with what he has done at Buffalo. You could extrapolate that to the type of success that he could have Auburn. I think he is young enough to really make inroads on recruiting. There are a lot of variables with a young coach that must be considered.
ReplyDeleteI don't think is what I should have said.
ReplyDeleteMore about Gill... I used to hate the way Bowden was all emotional on the sideline, looking like he peed his pants after every big play, like instead of watching football he was watching someone tightrope walk over a shark tank. I would like someone solid as a rock who can pump his guys up.
ReplyDeleteTurner Gill may be that guy. I know zero about him. But c'mon, crying? I dunno.
#63 for Florida is a thug
ReplyDeleteMonica - I appreciate Tim Tebow and I still hate him!
ReplyDeleteI wanna hear Longshore and Company poo pooing Vegas again.
ReplyDeleteThe line on this game? 10
Sorry about your luck bammer. Somehow, somewhere, they are trying to claim a national championship right now.
ReplyDeleteFSJ, will you please root against Florida with me in the NC game? I feel most people are all for this "SEC Pride" crap.
ReplyDeletenice, crum
ReplyDeleteHe was crying Michael because he knew that by beating Ball State he was going to be getting a big time coaching job somewhere.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteIf Muschamp is in or out we will know more after the Big 12 game tonight.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI don't know who I want..... But it ain't Gill.
ReplyDeleteI wqant to repeat anWJOX loop played here in the HAM....
ReplyDelete"Is Auburn smart enough to interview Tuner Gill>"
WJOX -- Ian Fitzsimmons - Ala grad.
LOL Chris - You should call them up and remind them.
ReplyDeleteThe caller on the radio then thinks Gill coaches the Buffalo Bills.
ReplyDeleteHilarious i guess.
Will Turner Gill get a serious consideration?
If so, AU loses ALL bad press!!!!!!
Mna -- It was from friday I think.
ReplyDeleteThe guy was an idiot.
But Ian kept laughing because he thought AU wouldn't even consider Gill.
Mna -- It was from friday I think.

Drunk - saorries
ReplyDeletedon't worry Bammer- - - - You came in second.
ReplyDeleteAU 2004 still best team in SEC in last 10 years and it AIN'T CLOSE.

ReplyDeleteGill is a political choice, not a football choice. Any serious football observer can see this by looking at his record and experience.
ReplyDelete32...you need to look again, all I see is a winner.
ReplyDeletePaul Johnson is the class of the those names mentioned (and who have not withdrawn from consideration yet).
