Fisher's "statement"

"FSU's Fisher, successor to Bowden, claims no contact with Auburn"
"Auburn has not contacted me or my agent and we have not contacted them," Fisher told ESPN.com. "I'm very happy at Florida State. I'm very content at Florida State and I'm happy to be here."

BOTTOM LINE: This statement isn't very strong.

  1. Not exactly a unequivical statement.

  2. wow. ummm, guess we shouln't be scratching him off the list.

    ReplyDelete
  3. can't say i'm surprised by the ala./fla score. i thought fla was the team to beat since they manhandled hawaii. ala did pretty well though, i gotta say

    ReplyDelete
  4. Please, let's scratch him off in here where it counts.

Wow. UF figured out how to beat the zebras.

And a shout out to the Auburn "officials" for interview the Turner "The Answer" Gill.

    ReplyDelete
  5. gil would be fine by me, although i don't think he's gonna get the offer.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I hate Tebow. If this is a just world, we'll see Texas and Oklahoma in Miami.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Why not, Scott? I'm not baiting you by the way. I just don't understand why Gill wouldn't be offered.

    ReplyDelete
  8. UF vs Oklahoma is where it's at, Pete.

Why do people hate Teebow? I don't get it. The dude's solid as can be as a person and a player.

Is it that Michael Jordan thing? He was hated for being better than everybody.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Okay, now, how do we get Auburn interested in Del Rio, and Del Rio interested in Auburn?

I like Gill as a plan B or C, but not as a first choice.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I am totally for a Texas vs Oklahoma NC game! Florida getting screwed would bring us together as a conference!

    SEC! SEC! SEC! SEC!

    ReplyDelete
  11. How could you hate Tim Tebow?

He's a good guy, a good football player, and he loses to Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Muschamp - It's pretty obvious why someone would say they "hate" someone they don't even know. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  13. I wish Ohio State had been good enough to get to the NC to be beaten by Florida again. hee hee

    ReplyDelete
  14. Here is my opinion- Auburn had better not given Gill a token interview. Do you remember what happened to Bama when they did the same with Croom?

I really don't think Auburn would have made it to this point with Gill unless it was very serious about it's intentions.

I also would be willing to bet that Rodney Gardner and Stacy Searls will be back at Auburn. It would definitely had bee the case if Jimbo was the coach.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I wish the world was full of Tebows

    ReplyDelete
  16. What the world
    Needs now
    Is Tebow
    Sweet Tebow

    He's the only thing
    That there's just
    Too little of

    ReplyDelete
  17. I would love to have Rodney, Stacy, and Dameyune back at Auburn. Don't know if DC would leave hometown of Mobile, though.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Do you guys think that the fact that Turner Gill is African-American will help in recruiting since we recruit mostly African-Americans?

I don't mean this to be a racist statement, just curious if you think it could boost recruiting. He seems like a player's coach.

    ReplyDelete
  19. sing to me Monica
    War Eagle!

    ReplyDelete
  20. barkley...

    Didn't help Croom much

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yeah, but Croom is old and in Starkville.

I mean, would you want to play for Sylvester Croom?

Nick Saban is about to give someone a tounge lashing, I see it coming.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thanks Jay for the updates.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I honestly don't think skin color matters that much to recruits. In that regard they apparently are more mature than lots of the fans

    ReplyDelete
  24. so tell me, is it possible BCS keeps UF below UT? I really don't think there should ever be a rematch of a reg. season game in the BCSCG

    ReplyDelete
  25. Barkley- It would help recruiting in my opinion. He would not be the first African-American in the SEC, but he would be the first African-American at a major school in the SEC. He is younger than Croom was and he is a players Coach. FSJ- Croom was old school and not quite as personable as Turner Gill is. I really believe Gill could make a major impact at Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Barkley..yes i think his ethnicity could be appealing to many recruits both, black and white.

    ReplyDelete
  27. and I certainly don't think a team that doesn't win its conference should be allowed in BCSNCG

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree peter, Gill is a good plan B, i hope that's what he is. I really am starting to think that they are going to can jacobs and make a run at muschamp.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm not sure, Barkley. I think it might have more effect on parents of recruits, but what do I know.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Nick Saban will eat Turner Gill's lunch. Please hire him.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Tarheel- The computers will favcr Florida with the win over the #1 computer team in the nation. They will jump to at least #2 if not #1. They will also more than likely be #1 in both human polls.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Mon.

I'm ok. We got beat by a better team with a super quarterback.

    Great year.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Muschamp would bring Auburn back to Auburn, too. That's why he's in my top 2 list.

Muschamp has plenty of AU blood. Masters at Auburn. Grad assistant at Auburn. Ties to Garner, Searles, Craig, etc., etc.

I believe Turner would be good fore recruiting because he's a tireless worker. He didn't go duck hunting today after winning the biggest game in the history of Buffalo football. He went recruiting.

  35. Faker - It was a great year without a doubt and I regret to say your future looks nothing but sparkly bright.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I recent read a journal that said that AU's freshman enrollment of african-americans was down 50% while UA's was up 37%. If AU is having a perception problem, Gill would certainly help it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I will pose this question to the informed posters of HABOTN, did race mean anything with the Presidential Election? I think that can answer your question about Gill's recruiting advanatage.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Anonymous6:55 PM

    Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Fisher's statement can be easily translated to, "I really don't want to have to pay FSU $2.5 million for even considering to look at the head coaching vacancy at Auburn University."

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hurling insults?... Please point out where I hurled an insult.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Turner could compete with Saban without cash.

    ReplyDelete
  42. race means nothing to me, i want the best coach possible. Turner Gill is 4th or 5th on my list.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Waiting Mr. Sensible....

    ReplyDelete
  44. Race didn't help John Blake at Oklahoma either Eddie.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Easy sensible, FSJ is cool. They lost cut him some slack... and i'm wearing jorts

    ReplyDelete
  46. If Turner is that low on a list somebody needs to read a bio.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ron:

Exactly. Auburn should go after the best coach available regardless of race.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I agree with you 100% Ron, that's why I believe Gill is the man. Of all the coaches that have been linked prominently with the AU Search, Gill by far has better credentials than Muschamp or Fisher. I still don't believe Nutt was ever seriously cnsidered.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Ron:

No need for him to cut me some slack. I didn't hurl an insult as he stated.

    Thanks though.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I don't mind gill but going after him is setting our sights a little low. If everything falls through i would be happy to have him.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I consider his age to be both his best factor and his worst factor. Race is meaningless in the quest for a new HC.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Before Gill I would like to have Spurrier, Kelly, Davis, or maybe Muschamp.

It looks like most of those have or will turn us down, so maybe Gill will be our best option.

    ReplyDelete
  53. FSJ,

Lay off is what i meant... i'm drunk.

    ReplyDelete
  54. FSJ- Keep going down the list, Ty Willingham would be next. I've stated from the beginning that's its not race, but what Gill has done at Buffalo that makes him attractive.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Jay,

Is there any chance at ALL that we would be going after Petersen at BSU?

    ReplyDelete
  56. I would rather, much rather in fact, have Gill over Muschamp.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I don't think Gill being black would help with recruiting. Black kids I think are like everyone else: they want to win championships and play on Sunday. They will play for who they think gives them the best chance to do that. They won't do something charitable if they don't think he will be the best coach for him just because he is black.

    Just my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
  58. barkley,

i'm with you minus brian kelly

    ReplyDelete
  59. Eddie:

I think it may matter for a recruit or two, but for the vast majority they are concerned with how to get them to the NFL or something like that irrespective of race.

I think it's an interesting topic. However, I think it is one where the effects are vastly overrated.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I know Ron..

    Thanks again.

I'll be here win or lose and will be the same poster win or lose.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Anonymous7:05 PM

"Nick Saban will eat Turner Gill's lunch. Please hire him."

Ok, it wasn't an insult. Just a shot.

My bad. I took down the other.

Great year anyway, FSJ. That team way overachieved.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I still wonder why we aren't hearing anything about Butch Davis. That is too quiet, IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I think it would be great to be able to ask someone who had actually ever been recruited or is being recruited to play SEC football.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Go Gators! I feel celebrating a la the 72 Miami Dolphins after the final NFL team loses their first game.....with a drink! Probably nothing to it, but a friend of mine in Auburn just called and said the house Muschamp has been trying to sell since leaving Auburn was taken off the market today...probably nothing to it, but you never know....

    ReplyDelete
  65. I'm sorry I responded to that question, I'm getting painted into a corner that is not my view point.

The question was whether race could help recruiting, and I believe that if he is a good coach, then yes it can help, just like O'bama was a good candidate, it did help. I never intended to hint that Auburn hire Gill because he was African American. We would be Mississippi State if we had done that. That is the only reason MSU hired Croom in my hoest opinion.

By the way, Gill was very close to getting the Nebraska job last year.

    ReplyDelete
  66. And nobody needs to be asking for Faker to be cut some slack. Come on. He can dish it out and he can take it.

    ReplyDelete
  67. It's weird going into a locker room and not knowing a single player.

    "Hi. Who are you?"

    ReplyDelete
  68. Agreed Eddie...

IMO, I make Butch Davis tell me no and then move down to the Brian Kelly/Turner Gill types....

and then to the Jimbo Fisher/Muschamp types.

I still think alot of these names area smokescreen, but what do I know.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Monica- I have a couple of good friends who played at Auburn while I was there. One was a parade all-american from columbus. It mattered. Trust me.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Florida's a heckuva team Jay.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Jay- Glad you could deiver your losing trend to Alabama today :).

    Oh the irony.

    ReplyDelete
  72. congrats on the season FSJ and thanks for being such a classy fan. Outside my old man I don't know many of those that pull for Bama.

    ReplyDelete
  73. WVU and USF playing in flurries

    ReplyDelete
  74. Outside of Tim Tebow, the difference in the game, IMO is that we scored field goals, while UF scored touchdowns.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Eddie - You should recruit them as hotties. That would be an interesting perspective to have here.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Monica, you getting any white stuff? If so, send it on to Morgantown. Nothing like a great snow bowl, even on fake grass

    ReplyDelete
  77. list...

    1 davis
    2 spurrier
    3 muschamp
    4 patterson
    5 gill
    etc...

    ReplyDelete
  78. Now GT is comming out saying its going to do everything it can to keep Paul Johnson.

Auburn is making some coaches some money these days.

    ReplyDelete
  79. It's been snowing off and on here all day. A very pretty snow fall as a matter of fact. I'm calling a courier right now.

    ReplyDelete
  80. forgot johnson put him 4th

    ReplyDelete
  81. I may try and get my friend Stan, the guy from Columbus to join. He was so disappointed this year that he wouldn't go to the last 3-4 home games even though he had season tickets.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I think that Auburn must really have some interest in Gill. In other words I an not positive that this is a "token" interview. I say this because if Auburn was looking to simply have a "token" interview, they would interview someone like Charlie Strong, or another assistant coach or coordinator. This way they could easliy hire a current HC as having more experience than the black interview or still be able to hire an assistant or head coach in waiting with out any problem. If Auburn interviews Gill and then hires an assistant like Fisher or Boomer they will be criticized very harshly by the Black Coaches Association. What do yall think?

    ReplyDelete
  83. FSJ,

Ya'll will contend for the BCS again in 2 to 3 years, your program is heading in the right dircetion.... I'm jealous

    ReplyDelete
  84. rats, no snow or rain in K.C.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Stan should come be comforted by the hotties. Be sure to tell him about our groovy hottie apparel. That's a HUGE recruiting tool.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Report on AL is saying that Davis has not been contacted by AU and he plans on staying at Tech for a while

    ReplyDelete
  87. Anonymous7:16 PM

We got enough to cover the cars with a dusting. Morgantown I believe is supposed to get something later.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Biscuit- That is exactly what I have been trying to say. Auburn would have way more to lose than gain by just interviewing him for the sake of interviewing.

I could be wrong, but I just believe this is a serious interview and some sort of agreement has been reached so that Auburn nor Gill end up with egg on their face.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Ron:

    Thanks...Things are definately looking up..

Anybody that expected Alabama to be 12-1 this year should have their head examined.

    ReplyDelete
  90. i dont care what the BCA thinks. Who AU hires is none of their business. I hope it is Gill.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Ron not sure what I think about that list. Davis wouldn't be that high for me. And I would absolutely NOT have Patterson or Johnson on my wish list.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Correction no mention of contact either way for Davis.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Bigcat, I think you meant Johnson.

Which I stated earlier that you were going to get everyone now coming out and pulling their name out. Just points directly to Gill. The only fly in the ointment so to speak, is a personal statement by Muschamp. If he makes it, then I would put an Eddie Percentage of 90% that Gill is the next coach.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Davis at Tech is who?

    ReplyDelete
  95. hit me with your list biscuit...

    ReplyDelete
  96. Biscuit.

Johnson would be on my list. He is a GREAT coach.

    ReplyDelete
  97. FSJ- You guys had an awesome season, and should be feeling great about it and the future. Anybody that gives you crap is jealous.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Great news!!!!!!!!!

Due to my loyalty to DirecTV, they are giving me three free months of Cinemax...

That'll take the edge off of a tough loss!

    YES!

    ReplyDelete
  99. I agree that Gill shouldn't be the top choice, but he is worth considering if we can't get the star candidate. I classify Gill as an up and comer, not a proven coach top not coach.

As for his skin color, I don't think many college football players are racist. They sweat together and they shower together. College football teams are one of the great ways kids find out that people are just people. If a recruit chose to come or not come to Auburn based upon the color of the head coach, I would just as soon he found a different school. He obviously isn't too bright.

Muschamp should probably be on the list somewhere, but not one of the top candidates. I would give Gill the edge on him in terms of head coaching experience, but since Muschamp has ties to Auburn, he might be given the edge.

My question is, where are the star candidates that we are pursuing? It sounds like we aren't interested in leach. It looks like Butch Davis and Steve Spurrier are the only major stars. Paul Johnson is close, but I wouldn't call him a star yet.

    ReplyDelete
  100. absolutely zero mention of Davis/Auburn in the local media/blogs

    ReplyDelete
  101. computer help requested from Hotties,
the dog just walked on my wife's new macbook. It (the macbook) now talks to my wife. How do we stop this?

    ReplyDelete
  102. And that is strange to me TarHeel

    ReplyDelete
  103. The macbook talks to you? Not sure I understand?

    ReplyDelete
  104. By the FSJ, very good game by Bama. They just ran into a Florida team that is very complete. Their defense is improved and they are more diverse on offense. It is amazing that Florida could look that good without Harvin.

I guess the best way to put it is Auburn didn't play a game this season in which the outcome would have made me feel better than playing Florida close. Our most impressive game was probably the loss to Georgia, and Florida stomped an ever lovin mudhole in Georgia.

    ReplyDelete
  105. No doubt SFC...

    Florida is a machine...

    ReplyDelete
  106. it's like it now assumes she is visually impaired, so it tells her whatever the cursor is on

    ReplyDelete
  107. Steve0 We are not going to get a "Saban" proven coach. It's not happening. This search is down to Muschamp and Gill with Fisher still hoping it falls to him. I really believe that is where we are. I could be reading way to much into the Gill interview, but they better line someone else up quick if it is between more than one coach.

    ReplyDelete
  108. JD the Biscuit's christmas coaching list:

    1) Spurrier
    2) Boomer

I haven't decided on the rest.

    ReplyDelete
  110. our Molly dog is so very smart (much smarter than bammers) She stepped on Fn + Command + F5 at the same time to activate the computer voice. We didn't even know the computer would do that. Sorry for the off topic discussion here

    ReplyDelete
  111. Eddie, you could be right, and that may be why Jacobs wanted to keep Tuberville. It looks like we wont be able to replace him with a coach of his stature, so we will do the up and comer gamble, which could pay off. You never know.

    ReplyDelete
  112. FSJ and all other Paul Johnson lovers out there I truly believe that hiring a guy like him would take Auburn Football decades, and I do not mean that in a good way!

    ReplyDelete

  117. muschamp, i just don't think that gil has the name recognition au is looking for. i think he might be a good fit...obviously, others disagree. i think the ptb are looking for someone huge. jgt, teebow for heisman!

    ReplyDelete
  118. ron I agree I just can't decide everyone behind those two I just find more negatives than positives. What would you think?

I dont like Jimbo but he is proabably on the list

I am very opposed to Johnson

I think that Davis would be good dont know the chances of him though

I don't like Patterson because I really feel like hes good in the Mountain West which is no SEC

    ReplyDelete
  119. Steve- If we hire Muschamp, we are hoping for a Stoops / Richt outcome. I have no problem with Muschamp.

    My List is:

    Gill
    Muschamp
    Johnson

In no particular order. I just find what Gill did at Buffalo amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  120. JD - Why do you think that about Johnson?

Tar - did you get it fixed?

    ReplyDelete
  121. I wouldn't consider Paul Johnson just because he has only been at Georgia Tech a year. I wouldn't want a coach that would come in for just a year. Also, I think the effort would likely be a waste of time.

    ReplyDelete
  122. What gill did at Buffalo is almost like someone going to Temple and making them Champions.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Mon - yes. I think it's funny that our 15 yr old weenie dog is teaching us "Mac-ese"

    ReplyDelete
  124. Tarheel- Got to love those "weenie dogs." We have a 7 year old dacshund.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Eddie, I do love the story at Buffalo. It is incredible. I just think that Auburn is a completely different world. I can see why some would want Fisher or Muschamp due to ties to Auburn, and they might be better choices in terms of recruiting.

Spurrier would be a pleasant surprise, but he would only be a short term solution.

I have serious doubts that Davis will want to get involved. The SEC is a tough world and the situation in the west has changed significantly with Nutt reviving Ole Miss and Petrino at Arkansas. Coaching at Auburn will be a tough task for any coach after this season.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Mon, the type of offense that Johnson runs isn't the type of offense that high school players want to go play in. There is a very good reason why traditional wing-t option teams like Nebraska, Oklahoma, and others have switched to a more modern offense. Johnson might have the ability to win early with our backs and that offense would fit Kodi well, but it's down the road where we would suffer. Auburn needs to decide to play an offense that is either Borges West Coast or some variation of the Spread, Wing-T offenses died in 1957

    ReplyDelete
  127. It's Turner Gill

Every time I read something about him it includes what a good recruiter he is. I also like that he's from Texas as I'm now obsessed with recruiting a QB from Texas.

"Gill, 45, who spent the 2005 season serving as Player Development Director and Offensive Assistant with the Green Bay Packers, was lauded as one of the nation’s top recruiters while an assistant coach at Nebraska from 1992-2004. The Cornhuskers won national titles in 1994, 1995 and 1997 during that span. " from UB site

    ReplyDelete
  128. This OK game is going to be good. Should Missouri upset Oklahoma, Texas is setting pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Eddie you hit the proverbial nail on the head with the Gill comment. That is what interests me about him. Also knowing his background as a recruiting coordinator at Nebraska when they were landing players like Tommy Frazier, Eric Crouch, and Lawrence Phillips. However I would always have in the back of my mind him going home to Nebraska.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Gill just seemed so solid Friday night, like someone I would want to play for if I was a 18 year old recruit.

    ReplyDelete
  131. okay I am convinced Gill is on my list maybe not #3 but he's on it.

    ReplyDelete
  132. It would be funny if Oklahoma lost tonight. Mass confusion to follow.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Bammer losing today makes certain AU 2004 is still regarded the best team in the SEC in 10 years.

    Turner Gill?

I haven't determined my opinion yet.

If Rodney Garner's brought in to coach up[ recruits --- I'm THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  134. Exactly Monica. Gill is a great recruiter. There is a reason Buffalo has been bad. There is no talent in that state, especially that area. Go look at Buffalo's Roster, players from all the country and outside the country.

TX, CA, TN, MD, OH, PA, CT, IL, MI, AZ, IN, FL, MA, VA, Canada, Australia.

This guy goes out all over the country to find kids to come to Buffalo. What do you honestly think he will do at Auburn?

    ReplyDelete
  135. Biscuit- He could only go home to Nebraska if he was succesful at Auburn. I can live with that.

    ReplyDelete
  136. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  137. I think his race could influence a small percentage of players. I think there (sadly) are still some good ole boys who wouldn't like the idea of playing for a black coach. On the other Hand, there are still many black players who feel that a white coach (or any white person) isn't going to have their back. People who were brought up in areas that where minorities are the strong majority.

I don't think it would be enough players in either direction to influence who you hired. I think it needs to go to the best coach, and color isn't even a factor.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Seems to me like Gill is a better fit at an MSU, a Syracuse, a Washington ... where he can learn without enormous pressure.

    Auburn = enormous pressure.

    ReplyDelete
  139. I love the idea of Gill as next HC but --- he MUST souround himself with top notch talent in assistants!

    R. Garner, S. Searles, J. Willis.

    Guys, recuiting wins championships.

    Florida proves that.

    ReplyDelete
  140. I'm willng to accept the Nebraska risk as long as we get 4 yr minimum from him

    ReplyDelete
  141. Biscuit- He could only go home to Nebraska if he was successful at Auburn. I can live with that.

LOL That's why you're my favorite, Eddie. Don't tell the others.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Yeah, let's make him put that 4 year thing in his contract cuz contracts are SOLID.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Chris-I believe it is safe to say that we will more than likely have all those assistants back at Auburn unless there is some hidden big candidate. I don't think there is.

    ReplyDelete
  144. What Monica?

    You flip-flopper

    ReplyDelete
  145. So Jay, you're thinking Muschamp is a serious candidate now?

    ReplyDelete
  146. contract couldn't keep him at AU, but could sure make Nebraska pay to get him. just ask Michigan

    ReplyDelete
  147. I hope so Eddie.

As far as good-ole-boys and football players .......

I can't begin to start explaining how much football players DON'T CARE ABOUT good-ole-boys.

Money beung paid out -- another thing.

  148. sounds like we (me included) are already dictating that Gill can't bring his staff with him. Who needs Lowder interfering when we can handle it ourselves.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Thanks Mon.

I feel like i'm in an election right now and campaigning for my candidate.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Now, %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%

% of AU hiring Turner Gill?

Jay, you just poo poo'd it.

  151. If Oklahoma loses the only programs that I feel like have an legitimate claim are USC and Penn St. both conference champions with 1 loss. I kind of get sick of Oklahoma always getting this "benefit of the doubt" in games when they always seem to get beat.

2003 Oklahoma coming off a loss in the Bix XII Championship Game gets the nod over Pac 10 Champions USC to play SEC Champion LSU in the Sugar Bowl (2003 National Championship game) and gets beat by LSU. #3 USC goes on to defeat #4 ranked Michigan in the rose bowl and be awarded the Football Writers and AP National Championship.

2004 Undefeated Okalhoma gets nod over also undefeated Auburn to play undefeated USC in Orange Bowl (2004 National Championship Game). USC goes on to blow Oklahoma out 55-19. Auburn defeats Virginia Tech 16-13 in Sugar bowl to remain undefeated and end teh season ranked #2 behind National Champion USC.

2008 Oklahoma jumps University of Texas in last week of season to be selected at the team to represent the Bix XII south in the championship game. Texas, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech all ended the season 11-1 but Oklahoma got the nod despite losing to Texas 45-35 earlier in the season, because of the Big XII 3 team tie breaker which places the top ranked BCS team in the Big XII Championship game.

I mean isn't it a little rediculious that one team always seems to get these type of breaks?

    I hate Chokelahoma!

  152. Tarheel- I wish that it wasn't the case, but Dye seems to be pushing very hard for Willis, Gardner & Searles to be back at Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  153. I think as one of only three African American men out of 117 Div 1 schools, Gill might be a little more familiar with all sorts of enormous pressure than most. I'm probably wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  154. You're doing a great job, Eddie.

    ReplyDelete
  155. Jay just poo poo'ed Muschamp and Fisher also.

    ReplyDelete
  156. When y'all posts books I can't read them. Just sayin.

    ReplyDelete
  157. You beat me to it, Eddie.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Eddie true I want a coach who is successful, but I also really want a coach who is all set to make another 10+ year run. That stability in the program has really seemed to help us out with the exception being this year.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Mon, just read 'em I do not post long stuff very often!

    ReplyDelete
  160. Monnie Monnie -- I don't read past 1st sentence or two.

Really hush hush on the Butch Davis front huh?

    ReplyDelete
  161. Well all we need is a crystal ball. Why didn't you say that sooner.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Biscuit- There is nobody you can hire that you know at this point that could make a 10+ year run guaranteed.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Butch Davis at Auburn

    vs

    5'4" Nick Saban at Bammer

    Best players on campus win!

    ReplyDelete
  164. sounds like Gill, if offered the job, would be wise to interview Garner, Searls, etc before deciding if he wants the job. Really weird to be doing a new coach the favor of choosing his assistants for him. But I admit, I sure would like those AU guys back home.

    ReplyDelete
  165. the hottest fires burn out the earliest.

Right now, I want a BLUE BLAZE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  166. Chris want white hot.

    ReplyDelete
  167. True Eddie, but forgive me for not wanting my school to be used as a spring board to other college jobs!

    ReplyDelete
  168. You're forgiven.

    Now, I need chocolate.

    ReplyDelete
  169. S. Searles was the OL coach at LSU and won a ring and considered a great coach.

    R. Garner is considered the SEC's best recruiter. B E S T in the SEC. Oh, and an AUBURN man.

Why in the world wouyldn't the next AU coach want them in Auburn?

    ReplyDelete
  170. speaking of fire...CAMPFIRE!!!! Everyone who participates in this popcampfire is cooler in my book than they began the day.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Auburn is the place coaches come to dye. Tubs has the first real chance to break that mold.

    ReplyDelete
  172. Monica, Great idea!

Mine will be ice cream with chocolate sauce. washed down with a diet coke, of course.
    be back in a minute

    ReplyDelete
  173. Monnie -- I wanted a AU blue reference -- after CTT's ORANGE obbession.

But white heat is not gonna help get Coach Gill -- wink wink.

    ReplyDelete
  176. ohhhh cereal! excellent option! I'll be back.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Chris,
I'd love to get away from the orange thing. Sure it shows up great in the stands, but I'm blue da ba dee da ba dee i have a blue house with blue windows... Eiffel 65

    ReplyDelete
  178. Monnie?

    okie dokie then.

    ReplyDelete
  179. I only wore orange once. AU lost. I've never worn orange since. Unfortunately, AU has still lost.

    ReplyDelete
  180. I wasn't very sure about Gill until I read up on him and got a chance to watch the game last night. I believe he would bring fresh blood to the plains. However, I am a little worried he's not experienced enough to deal with the things that happen at Auburn other than "X's and O's".

BUT...at this point...I am willing to take the gamble...to much UPside not to!!!

    ReplyDelete
  181. Eddie, do you have a problem with Auburn being such a good job that we don't have coaches resigning and then taking a job as a NFL position coach (shula), an alabama highschool (Dubose), a second rate Big XII school (Fran). I kind of like our coaches coming and spending the rest of their careers here.

    ReplyDelete
  182. ok, maybe we have a game now in K.C.

    ReplyDelete
  183. http://blog.al.com/goldmine/2008/12/auburn_gets_permission_to_talk.html

Guy, copy & paste the write up on Turner Gill at AL.COM.

Ok, that long of a piece makes me thinks he's hiored.

    ReplyDelete
  184. Auburn needs to stick with the orange. It looks so good on TV. In my opinion this year when we tried the whole Blue thing we the stands looked horrible.

    ReplyDelete
  185. Biscuit- I'm in agreement with you, that is what i meant by my post. Probably could have phrased it a lot better.

    ReplyDelete
  186. Do you think it was a bad thing to do the ornage thing?

I liked the idea because it united the look of the stanbds on TV.

Now, Gill would have to listen to whaqt's around him and hire SEC veterans to wade the waters at AU.

    Rodney Garner.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Chris please tell me your being sarcastic about the length of that goldberg article...

    ReplyDelete
  188. Barks -- go to google and type -- al.com auburn -- all the media coveage.
