Jimbo Fisher speaks

He spoke EXCLUSIVELY with the HABOTN ... a few minutes before or after he spoke with other news organizations. There are a lot of people here.

  • I've been hearing your name a lot? What's it been like being such a hot name?
I've learned in this business -- rumors and speculation will happen and you just have to go on. I haven't had any contact with Auburn and neither has my agent. Auburn hasn't contacted me or my agent. It's flattering. It's great that I'm thought of for a job as highly thought of as Auburn's job.

  • In light of what your president (T.K. Wetherell) said, are you surprised that your name keeps coming up?
In today's times, nothing surprises me. The internet has changed the world. The fans all talk. If it's written on the internet, it must be true. The world has changed.

  • Are you going to be coaching at FSU next year?
Whenever Coach Bowden retires, I'll …

  • I mean next season. You'll be at FSU next season?
Yes. I'm planning on being at Florida State. That's where we plan on being.

  • What did you think about Wetherell taking such a strong stance about you not leaving? That's good to hear as a coach, because the best thing that can happen to you in this business is to be wanted. I love coaching at Florida State. I mean that. I enjoy going to work, which is a blessing. I'm doing my best to be truthful with everyone about this. I've always felt like telling people the truth -- whether it's good or bad -- is the best thing. I love being at FSU and I'm planning to be (at FSU)."

  • What did you think about Tuberville's situation?: "It's a sad thing for everyone. Everybody knows he did a good job. Change is going to happen regardless of where you are or how good you're doing. There's just so much money in college football now. Everybody wants a quick fix. They want everything to be great every single day. That's something that won't happen anymore. Auburn felt like they had to make a change. That's how things go."

BONUS QUOTE @ 9:30 p.m.: ``You never say never," Fisher said. ``This business is a crazy business. You never say never in this business. I know this -- I'm very happy where I am."

MY VIEW OF THIS: Another lukewarm denial. He's leaving plenty of wiggle room open here, though I expect that from a Jimmy Sexton client.

  1. wow. pretty wide open on those answers.

  2. Jay can we pay a 5 million dollar buy out, on top of everything else. Also is this the best AU can do.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Jay thanks for the notable newcomer status. By the end of this coaching search we should have several "Feeling The Heat".

    ReplyDelete
  4. Surely he'll get an interview if Rodney Garner and Patrick Nix get the courtesy.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Do they go to some sort of training that Sexton arranges? It is like they are the opposite being forthright. I guess either way, they can more money being wishy washy versus straightforward.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I guess he's going to have to say it...

    ReplyDelete
  7. Ok. New thread.

I guess people know where I stand on the flexbone, wishbone, veerbone or any bone when it comes to attracting high school talent.

I just asked a co-worker who played at Ole Miss in the 90's if he or his son was being recruited by programs like Auburn, GT, FSU or Tennessee would he consider going somewhere that runs the flex-bone and throws the ball 5-6 times per game:

    His answer: "Why would I."

I'll refrain from the conversation when it comes to this from here on.

My stance is you can't win CHAMPIONSHIPS without good/great football players.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I am not sure I can stomach another Jimmy Sexton client. Seriously, he is like the United Auto Workers union head. He and his clients do such a good job of saying (or not) and doing things to get more money....the only problem is, like the UAW they could (and have) negotiate their members right out of that good job.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Kris - I agree. I think a criteria should be a non-Sexton client.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Of course you need talented players, but you also need a team that executes what is in front of them and is well coached.

All the talent in the world can only take poor execution so far.

Surely we can agree on that.

Not many poorly coached teams or teams that don't execute win championships in any era.

  11. I guess is the Montae Pitts interview is tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Is he going to catch up on Pitts in the recording studio. I figure he has plenty of time to work on that rap album now.

    ReplyDelete
  13. You must have a Sexton client ... college football programs are like the Big Three, and Sexton is like the UAW ... he's a boat anchor, but he's our boat anchor.

    ReplyDelete
  14. If Sexton is your agent, your name should be stricken from the potential list.

    ReplyDelete
  15. This program has plenty of anchors. Right now it needs wings.

    ReplyDelete
  16. It's hard to find a coach who isn't a Sexton guy or won't be down the line, because he's always pimping his guys out for every job and more and more seem to sign up with him.

    ReplyDelete
  17. mon, you previously asked if an african-american could be hired at au. if not this year, then when? that would be my answer.i know nothing of t. gill other than his record. he may not have the resume au is looking for, but, in my opinion, his race should not be a factor. in my mind, it's a silly question to have to ask--not on your part, but, in general. sad that that could be an issue. of course, 20 years ago i lost a job for having the AUdacity to register high school seniors to vote. while everyone was welcome, and the turnout was 50-50, the pic in the newspaper was of me and 3 african-americans. and so it goes.

    ReplyDelete
  18. my dad coaches at St. Clair County High...should i e-mail Jacobs to set up an interview. He's the OC, they had a really good offense this year. and he's been coaching for over 30 years...i think he deserves a shot.

that would help me finish grad school too.

    ReplyDelete
  19. The Sexton angle is similar to what NFL teams face in drafting players that may be represented by agents who are "difficult" at best. Bottom line though, to get the best players or coaches you pretty much have to hold your nose and go for the best talent no matter the agent.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I hear the bigus argument that you can't fire a black coach.

Well, ND took some flack but that was because it was in 3 years. Other than that I can't think of any school who released a black coach -- Washington, Oklahoma, Miss ST -- who took hits becuase of that.

If race is a factor is should be a posittive! AU could be a shining example!

    ReplyDelete
  21. This may have been stated earlier, but i've been on the road all afternoon on my way to Huntsville, Finebaum had Ronnie Sanders of Auburn Undercover and he state that Nutt was the top candidate....again.

Anyone else heard this? I think i'm going to go puke....again.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Scott from T - Monica did NOT ask if a black guy could be hired as coach. Monica said she was embarrassed that the question was even being asked. Check ya self. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Auburn Undercover is becoming a joke.

    Nutt signed a deal, right?

I ventured over to their board -- I'm hitting them all -- and there's this statement up there about how T. Gill is married to a white woman and I flipped.

What century is this? I had a feeling it was someone posing as an AUBURN GUY.

    That feeling was HOPE.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ronnie Sanders is about to be marked off my Holiday card list.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I agree, I cant stand the process. You had Charles Barkley on ESPN, saying Auburn needed Turner Gill.

I hate that they are interviewing like 900 people, man that search firm is really getting their moneys worth. I think I saw the job posted on Monster.com.

Jay, I know you need a break. I cant stand hearing it about it all day long. Chasing rumors left and right.

    ReplyDelete
  26. By pushing Nutt, Jimbo, and whoever else in Sexton's Playtone Gallery of Stars, it allows us to move around and work toward hiring who we want.

It's really a win-win ... we talk to a client or two, get them some raises, raise Sexton's profile, then he helps us close the deal with the real choice.

    Easy as Boom.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Jay added dialogue to his Fisher interview wherein Jimbo added "Auburn felt like they needed to make a change"...even if that is the case, I don't think one helps their job chances by calling their potential new boss a liar...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Well, only thing I worry about is losing recruits.

    J. Atchison is a NEED player.

Maybe we get him back in the fold but Bammer's pretty good at this 'cruitn thing.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I picture these coaches similar to our senators and congressmen and women. They disagree during the day, then at night they get together at parties and such and discuss the best ways to put more money in their pockets.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Scott from Tuscon - I'm waiting on your retraction.

    ReplyDelete
  31. boom, are you making a reference to That Thing You Do?

    ReplyDelete
  32. If we hire Nutt, both parties will lose what little credibility they have left. Also, we won't have to worry about Bin Laden bombing Jordan Hare...my money says it will be some freak decked out in Ole Miss Gear screaming hotty toddy.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Please Lowder, for all the things that are rightous and right, hire Turner Gill to be the new Head Football Coach of Auburn University.

    How hard could it be?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Why would any idiot want Houston Nutt in AU? He's here every other year, that's enough for us all.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Nice catch, Fort Worth ... just got back from Grapevine for four days ... you can keep it.

Eddie, I leave you for a few days, and you're pimpin' for Turner Gill? Eduardo, my man, I think that's a little bit of Kool-Aid.

I'm sure he's got some potential, but we need someone who's a glass-eatin' workaholic.

We're not electing a governor, or choosing a preacher or hiring the head of the chamber of commerce.

We're hiring the man who's going to bring us back.

    ReplyDelete
  36. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Monica, I retract what Scott from Tucson said. Does that help?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Yes, Michael - Thank you. Blessed are the peace makers.

    Eddie - Read your email(s).

    ReplyDelete
  39. Jet- I like Muschamp as much as you do, and would be thrilled to have him as a coach. I don't think it's going to happen. I really believe it's down to Fisher and Gill, and I will take Gill anytime. If you look at Gill's pedigree, and what he has done at Buffalo, then I guess I don't see what the problem is in making this hire.

I don't believe their is a homerun hidden that we are working out the details with. Just look who is the face of the search, Jay Jacobs. WE ALL KNOW TUBS GOT FIRED, but Jay couldn't help himself in saying that he "BEGGED" tubs to stay 3 times. Now you got Tubs mom saying that he was fired, which we all knew. How stupid does this look for Auburn?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Peace among the Hotties.
    War in the trenches.

We need a fire-breathin', butt kickin' dude to put the jumper cable on our program

    ReplyDelete
  41. Jet- Who is that guy, and don't you dare say Houston Nutt?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Eddie, soon enough, no one will care ... like no one cared how Tater Tot left ... no one will care about the circumstances ... you pay a guy $5.1 large, everyone knows the score.

Auburn people will appreciate Tommy for what he did. And that's the end of it.

    ReplyDelete
  43. i have to disagree.

Whoever called the guy's MOM for a frickin quote should be shot.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Houston Nutt?

It's Boom, and I think it will work out.

But if it's not, then it's Johnson.

That's me talking, and I'll take the hits, if I'm wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  45. i'm thinking muschamp as well

    ReplyDelete
  46. Eddie, the list continues...

    ReplyDelete
  47. Eddie,

I hadn't heard that on Nutt, but I hope he has bad information. Don't fire Tubs and sell me a Nutt as an improvement.

It seems like Jimbo would have to be a long shot at best. If you're paying Tubs $5M to quit and another $5M to acquire Jimbo, you're going to be stuck with him a while, good or bad. $10M seems like a lot of money to spend to fire a proven head coach to hire an OC.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think it's the interviews that we're not hearing about that matter.

  53. if I wasn't an alum of Auburn or texas, I'm afraid I'd choose the latter for a HC gig. Ten times out of ten. Unless my better half told me to do otherwise.

If it were really a choice between the Texas HC job and the AU HC job, I would agree with you.

    But it's not.

What assurance does Muschamp have that, five years down the road, they change their mind and promote Applewhite instead of him? As I understand his 'HCiW' deal, absolutely none.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Wondering if Jimbo was visiting some croots in town today?

    ReplyDelete
  55. I really have to agree that I think these interviews are smoke screens. But I still think that TG is the best candidate and AU would make a killing on "War E-Gill" tees.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Brent- I believe there is a time frame on Muschamps of agreement of like 3 years. Mack Brown has openly said he is close to retirement, and the current AD is about to step down within a year or so. At that point Mack Brown would become the AD and Muschamp the coach. If they don't make Muschamp coach by that time, I believe they owe him like $4 million or so based on his new agreement.

I've traveld to Austin several times, and I knew someone that was a coach on their staff. They pretty much pick their players instead of recruit them. Texas is by far the better job, even if we Auburn fand don't want to admit that. If I was Muschamp, I would stay right where I am at.

    Be back in a minute.

Do any of you think any of the candidates could do better than Tuberville has already done? If so, who? I think Paul Johnson would have a shot and maybe Nutt, but that is about it. I am assuming Davis isn't an option.

  60. from University of Tx press release last month (Monica, sorry for it being so lengthy)“I was really excited when they presented the opportunity to me,” Muschamp said. “I’m not in any hurry to be a head coach and hope Coach Brown’s around for many more years. I’m just glad I’m going to be able to stay at Texas. This is the top program in the country, my family loves it here and there’s no better person to watch and learn from about running a football program than Coach Brown.
“President Powers, DeLoss Dodds, the administration and the leadership at Texas are outstanding. Coach Brown and a great support staff are in place. I’ve really enjoyed the kids in our program and everyone I’ve been around here. Texas has all the resources, facilities and a great recruiting base. It is the elite program in the country. No disrespect to any of the other places I’ve worked, but this is a really special place.”
A native of Rome, Ga., and 1994 graduate of Georgia, he was four-year lettermen at safety for the Bulldogs (1991-94). He was selected as defensive co-captain as a senior and was a part of two bowl teams. He also earned a spot on the SEC Academic Honor Roll in 1993.
“When I first came here in January and my wife, Carol, and boys, Jackson and Whit, stayed back in Auburn, I got such a great feel for the community and people. When Carol and the kids moved here in May, they fell in love with Austin. If I would have left, I would have left on my own because she was staying here. She really loves the community and the people, and our kids love their schools. It’s just a special place and somewhere I want to be for a long time.
“I really appreciate the confidence that President Powers, DeLoss Dodds, the Board of Regents and Coach Brown have in me. I hope Coach Brown is here for a long time and look forward to continuing to coach our defense, learning from him and eventually carrying on the outstanding Texas tradition.”

  61. FYI there is a student led protest of the CTT staff firings on campus tomorrow. It was organized on Facebook under the group "Fire Jay Jacobs" and they have 460 people signed up to be there. Jay you might need to be in Auburn with a camera.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I honestly think Nutt would be more of the same, and for some reason (prob bec. I don't know enough about him) I'm just not sold on Johnson.

This is all just a big gamble, and it's one that Jacobs better win, bec. contrary to his performance that was literally unbelievable, he got rid of tubs.

I think we need a top-notch recruiter, a man with integrity, who teaches rigid fundamentals, etc. etc. etc.

I like Muschamp for the most part, but think he's kind of a wild-card, Turner Gill has grown on me lately, but is he ready?

I would like to know more about Kelly from Cincy.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Mack Brown has 8 yrs left on his contract. Haven't been able to find WM's "HCIW" contract yet, but still googlin

  65. If it's Nutt, I'm canceling my $500,000 donation check to AU.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Mon- You can donate several thousand dollars to the "Eddie4AU" entertainment fund. I'm sure it's tax deductible.

    ReplyDelete
  67. What kind of entertainment do you offer exactly?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Well, I would use the entertainment fund for Disney DVC Membership :).

    ReplyDelete
  69. oh - for YOUR entertainment...
    no deal

  70. I can dance like a monkey, will that suffice?

    ReplyDelete
  71. So far, people seem against Nutt, but there doesn't seem to be anyone else that could get us back to the level Tuberville achieved. Maybe Paul Johnson could, but people seem against him too. We seem to be willing to settle for less in the hopes that some of the other coaches will grow into the job. Somehow, I don't think we should wait that long.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Steve- I know we have disagreed on many issues before, but surely you cannot be for Nutt? Nutt was run off his own program and alma mater. He left there with barely any talent. Orgeron at least had talent at Ole Miss, even if he couldn't coach. I would rather have Tubs than Nutt any day of the week. That would be a step backwards.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Anonymous8:45 PM

    I'm all for Turner Gill.
    Why???
Well first off, he'd get us rid of this Jimmy Sexton clown and stop us from getting taken to the bank every single offseason. This man is making a mockery of the coaches in the SEC especially. He pretty much monopolizes the SEC Coaching circuit and uses that leverage to pad his own pockets every offseason. There is no such thing as loyalty when he's involved. It woul dbe refreshing to hire someone with a different agent that's for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Houston Nutt--ugh...

    ReplyDelete

Muschamp or Gill, or I'll be dissappointed. Nutt is not worth the 5.1 mill it took to let Tubs go in my opinion.

  87. Eddie, so far every candidate I have seen has been a step backwards. I think that is pretty much a given at this point.

The question is whether we go with someone like Nutt, Johnson, or Spurrier that might have us back to the same level in a year or two, or if we go with some of the young pups which will likely take 4 to 5 years to get us back to where we were under Tuberville.

The recruiting class has already been damaged so it is extremely important we name someone quickly, especially before some of the current players decide to go pro.

If we are looking for something better than Tuberville, we would have to look at the Butch Davis type, which seems highly unlikely.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Well, its been a progression. At one point, I wanted sweater vests in Auburn. I moved on when I realized that losing to LSU and UF is unacceptable. From there, I formed the lonely George O'Leary bandwagon. I was quick to throw that wagon off a cliff when I realized that he'd hell bent on killing all of his players. My latest coach-crush has been the one and only Jack Del Rio. I'm still certain that he'll be available in another week or so (mabe sooner- speaking of which Boomer Sooner! Beat the Gaytors, and Goooo Utes!, too). I'm convinced, that if there's anyone out there who's perfect for Auburn, it's Del Rio. The only problem is getting Lowder and company to quit drooling over Sexton's clients long enough to see what I see.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Nutt would be HORRIBLE. Cancel my season tickets. He is a guy that was getting run off by his universitiy for being a crappy coach and a slimeball, while his scuzzy agent (Sexton) duped Ole Mrs into hiring him. "You'd better hire him fast, before somebody else does".
He's the guy that hired Gus Malzahn as OC for one reason (actually two) in order to sign Mitch Mustain and the receiver kid. He then stuck Gus in the corner and wouldn't let him do anything. They ALL eventually left.
Did you see who Nutty got as a committment today? The ex-Gator who stole the dead girls credit card and bought crap for six months while her parents got the bills!! He gets out of jail and heads to Oxford.
    We Don't Want this Slimeball!!!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Mon: Huge Johnson fan...

Zoo Keeper has no idea who the next coach will be.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I am not sure why people would say Nutt would be horrible? Do you think he won't be able to get the same level of players at Auburn as he had at Arkansas or Ole Miss?

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  94. The only reason that I would want to hire Nutt is soley because he would be coming from Ole Miss...

    ReplyDelete
  95. Steve- Great Coaches start from somewhere, and that might as well be Auburn. What Bama found in Saban was very rare. The only way it happens is if a coach like that goes to the NFL and wants back in college. If Saban had stayed at LSU, he would still be there. I don't think Butch Davis wants to be in the SEC and I don't think Spurrier wants to admit failure at South Carolina yet. These big coaches have huge egos, and they will not move just for money, becaues they can more than likely leverage a deal with their current school.

I do not believe that Gill or Muschamp would be a step back forward for Auburn, I think it woudl be a step forward. They are both great recruiters. Just look at Gill's roster to see where he has gone to get players to come to freaking Buffalo. To be succesful in the SEC you have to be a good coach and a GREAT recruiter. Tubs was falling way behind on the "recruiter" part. Just like last year when he was duckhunting, Saban was wiping him out on the recruiting trail.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Eddie I know that I've said this before but your man love for Gill is sickening! Get a room...

    ReplyDelete
  97. Eddie, please compare the number of days Tuberville was duck hunting with the length of the recruiting season. I believe Tuberville was there two days. During the recruiting season, did Saban not take any days off? To not allow a coach to take a vacation seems very unrealistic. Saban's first recruiting class had nothing to do with Tuberville. It seems silly to say otherwise. Also, Tuberville brought in one of the top, if not the top recruiting class in the nation in 2007. I am not sure where this criticism comes from or why. Saban was destined to have a good first year recruiting class because of the excitement with his arrival, but Tuberville has always had solid recruiting classes. What is missing with the current team was the current senior class, that was brought to you by the Jetgate guys.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Gill, Fisher, or Muschamp seem to be a huge drop off.

Petrino is another coach that might step in and keep us at the level established by Tuberville, but I would rather not have Petrino.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Jay I have ask before but got lost in thread somewhere so I will ask again. It was obvious that Rhoads had no intentions of staying at Auburn after CTT fire/resigned. Not so sure CTT was going to keep him either if CTT had stayed our coach. Do you know what turned him against AU. Just reading between lines but he seemed very unhappy.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Guilty as charged. It's why I smile so much.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Reason I brought it up is I heard Clemson is looking at Rhoads.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Steve- Vacation days at this time of the year are called "Dead Period", the time a coach cannot make contact with recruits. It is comming up very shortly.

Biscuit- I'm staying at the Marriot Courtyard in Huntsville tonight. Does that count?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Tigerfan- I heard that too. I can't blame Rhoads. I do believe that his defense was exposed here in the SEC. It may work well against lesser talent, but he got picked apart several weeks in a row with very similar plays by the offenses. He never seemed to make adjustments at Halftime, and I just think he was better suited somewhere else.

  104. Jetgate hurt 2 years ago, not this year. The negatives from Jetgate should have been offset and then some by the 13-0 season. It wasn't.

The thing that I really like about Muschamp is his enthusiasm. It seemed to me that Tuberville and his staff lost that fire this year. Hopefully BMF could bring that back.

It also doesn't hurt that he absolutely hates Saban. He won't back down to him on anything.

  105. Nutts didn't recuit any difference maker at Ole Miss this year.

    Coach O did.

And without the QB, Ole Miss isn't 8-4.

    Oh the glory.

The glorious 8-4.....just let it roll off your tounge.

    ReplyDelete
  106. yes the Ole Miss QB is the 2nd best QB in the league next yr

  107. Kristina:

tsk tsk.....I would expect a smart aleck response like that from Monica, but not you. I know y'all are close, but now you are even acting alike.

Does the devil in you want Petrino or something?

    ReplyDelete
  108. Steve is not big on risk taking when it comes to hiring this coach.

He only seems to want an established head coach rather than some new blood.

    Am I correct on this?

    ReplyDelete
  109. Please cross CWM off the list guys.

    Not happening.

Rhodes defense - hhmm, one question: 3rd and 8.

Why line the DBs off 11 yards.

    jus sayin

  110. TOUCHDOWN AUBUR...I MEAN CADILLAC!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  111. Way to go Caddy... just got his second touchdown of the year

  112. Added a BONUS QUOTE to the main page ... snagged much later in the evening.

    The HABOTN lingers:

``You never say never," Fisher told the crowd of approximately 200. ``This business is a crazy business. You never say never in this business. I know this -- I'm very happy where I am."

    ReplyDelete
  113. RK, I don't mind risk taking. It is just a question of what we want. It seems people have decided we will settle for less. Instead of a Saban type hire, we will go with a Richt, Zook, Shula, type hire, which is okay. It just means we are looking long term and the fans need to realize that we have to settle for less for a while. This is contradicted by people saying Tuberville wasn't good enough winning 10 games a year. Either we decide to go with an up and comer and see what we get after 4 or 5 years, or we go after a top notch coach and expect 10 wins within the first two years. It is just a matter of what people want. I see conflicting statements.

  114. Touchdown Cadillac!!!

    ReplyDelete
  115. "Tuberville wasn't good enough winning 10 games a year"

Except for 04-07 when was Tuberville winning 10 games per year?

You can't take a 4 year period out of a 10 year career and say he averaged 10 wins per year.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I don't think Rhoads was "turned against" Auburn.

He has a certain kind of personality that maybe didn't fit here. I like him. He's just not very cordial, I guess you'd say. He's not rude or mean. I just don't like he likes being hasseled. Period.

That could mean media, head coach, athletic director ... who knows? Rhoads wants to coach defense and be left alone.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Rumor has it that Muschamp was offered the job today. Even given a contract. Will have to see.

It is obviuos now, but Tubbs was fired. Just wasn't going to let the PTB make him make changes. (ala Shula).

    ReplyDelete
  118. WarEagleRK, excluding the Franklin experiment, Tuberville was averaging 10 wins a year over the last 5 years.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Jay, Rhoads sounds like the kind of DC we have been looking for, a guy that is content being with Auburn and won't be gone in a year or two.

    ReplyDelete
  120. LIke RK said Steve, there more than just the 2004 & 2006 seasons.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I was following the Bucs game on Yahoo when I came in here it had Carnell with 7 carries for 107 yards and a TD, with a 96 yard run.

Turns out yahoo stats goofed. I got really excited for a second.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Tuberville brought in one of the top, if not the top recruiting class in the nation in 2007.

Yeah, those 4-star studs like Chaz Ramsey, Johnnie Lee Dixon, Enrique Davis, Carlton Johnson and Bo Harris have been real difference-makers for us. Recruiting rankings are meaningless if you can't get them on campus, keep them eligible, and actually develop their raw skills.

The question is whether we go with someone like Nutt, Johnson, or Spurrier that might have us back to the same level in a year or two, or if we go with some of the young pups which will likely take 4 to 5 years to get us back to where we were under Tuberville.

I don't think getting back to being a perennial also-ran in the SEC West will take 4 to 5 years, although I must admit I'm hoping for better than that no matter who we hire.

    ReplyDelete
  123. So Muskrat with no head coaching experience Vs. Gill with proven HC duties. We will get murdered by the media.

    ReplyDelete
  124. And Jay, your quote by Fisher makes me love him more. That is one of the most intelligent quotes I ever heard a coach make.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Thanks jay that makes since. I am sure most of us would like to be left alone to do our jobs but thats a dream world.

    ReplyDelete
  126. ballin, the media can talk all they like. They are irrelevant. Sorry Jay. But what will matter is how the new coach does. Win games, media doesn't matter.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Steve,

Since you are picking and choosing which seasons to include and which not to include. Remove Tubs two 10+ win seasons and see what the average was. It just doesn't work by taking a piece of it, especially when it's been downhill the last 4 seasons.

You have to look at the whole picture, not just the portion that's good.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Yeah right Steve.

    ReplyDelete
  129. WarEagleRK, I was looking at the entire picture and how Tuberville has built this program.

    ReplyDelete
  130. 8,7,6,5,2 (SEC wins the last 5 years)

Who cares if you can beat UTM or ULM. All that matters are SEC wins. (unless you lose one of those games)

    ReplyDelete
  131. wtc can give us a link or is this inside stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  132. I will take 8,7,6,5 any time.

    ReplyDelete
  133. With the preseason losses

    ReplyDelete
  134. RK, I saw the same thing on sportsline.com. It showed Carnell with a 96 yard TD run, I was pumped.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Jay,

We are still getting a bunch of names that appear to be on the psuedo list. If you had to do a list what would be the names and where would they appear on "the list" (not the list that Eddie and I keep the Jay's list)?

    ReplyDelete
  136. I did my best Bramblett and went all GO CRAZY CADALAC GO CRAZY!

    ReplyDelete
  137. JD, I would like to see the same thing. I am real curious if there may be more coaches that we are not hearing about. I think there is a reason that Jacobs wasn't going to fire Tuberville. I think it was because he had looked into the candidates available and there are slim pickens.

    ReplyDelete
  138. The Tubbs issue is from an assistant coach.
Tubbs wants to coach again and MS State is after him hard. Says he would take all assistants with him, but not really interested in that job this year.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Del Rio might be an interesting prospect if he becomes available, but I have a hard time seeing Auburn hiring a coach named Del Rio.

    ReplyDelete
  140. wtc, I think Tuberville said he would remain in Auburn for a year. I can see him going to MSU.

    ReplyDelete
  141. SteveFC
I thought Slim Pickens was dead. But hey, if he's available, let's hire him!

    ReplyDelete
  142. How does A.J. Green get 1st team all sec and julio jones get second team all sec but yet julio gets freshman of the year. Does that make any since.

    ReplyDelete
  143. TarHeelTiger, hahaha, good point. He would bring attention to Auburn. We would break the death barrier in terms of head coaches in the SEC.

    ReplyDelete
  144. wtc you seemed to be in touch pretty well with things at Auburn. Who do you think muschamp is going to get as OC. He and Borges always got along good. Do you think he brings someone from Texas, what you heard on that front.

    ReplyDelete
  145. tigerfan, the same way Colt McCoy is BigXII player of the year, but only the 2nd team All BigXII QB.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I think I'm choking from all the smoke.....War Eagle and good night!

    ReplyDelete
  147. Eddie that does count as a room. Although I'm more of a Hampton Inn guy myself. I am a Hilton Honors Member and love the points.

Got to get up early tomorrow to head down to Pensacola then it's over to the Hampton Inn in Daphne so I am going to hit the sack. Holla at yall tomorrow some time.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Really cloudy on that one. The interviews today were somewhat a smoke screen for the HC, but more of a gauge to see who is interested in coming back.

I think Borges is either at MSU or believe or not take McCracken's old job because he really likes living in Auburn.

  150. I've had my Biscuits hat on today. i've been surprised twice by people recognizing it. other than that, its gotten a lot of comments. nothing like a dancing biscuit to get you noticed.

  151. tigerfan44 ... I was talking to an agent this morning (the All-SEC team wasn't yet released) who INSISTED that AJ Greene was better than Julio Jones. I guess he isn't alone in that thinking.

    ReplyDelete
  152. JD ... I couldn't do a legit list.

I know who isn't legit, but the pool of legit possibilities is too long to consider right now.

    ReplyDelete
  153. AJ Greene is more dynamic and makes more spectacular looking catches than Julio, and will make more ESPN highlight reels.

Julio will be just the consistent steady force doing all the fundamental things the correct way.

Greene is more flashy, so he will get more attention.

  154. Question of ethics folks: I'm in a 10 team fantasy football league. Yesterday, I secured the fourth and final playoff spot, which was scheduled to start next week. Well, I was talking to the commish of our league last night, who thought he still had a dog in the race, and pointed out to him that I knocked him out by winning. Lo and behold, tonight he wins his matchup by one point, and suddenly the playoffs are changed from starting week 15 to starting week 16. Guess who my matchup is this week? Yep, the commish. Should I stop payment on my check now, or wait and see what happens next week?
