Malzahn not leaving Tulsa immediately
Here are a few items discussed in the comments section that probably need front-page status:

- Gus Malzahn, hired Sunday as the Tigers' new offensive coordinator, will stick with his current employer (University of Tulsa) until the conclusion of its Jan. 6 bowl game.
- Malzahn will be in Auburn on Monday. He'll be meeting with Chizik and The Peeps. He'll also huddle with the media at some point.
- Malzahn will coach quarterbacks. There was some confusion here because he coached receivers at Tulsa. Auburn still is in the market for a receivers coach.
- Tulsa head coach Todd Graham had this to say about Malzahn's situation:
“We wish Gus much success at Auburn and it is with mixed emotions that we send him off,” Graham said. “He has done an outstanding job for us. I know it was a tough decision for him to leave Tulsa, but we wish him nothing but the best in his new position.” (Tulsa World)

201
FSJ, in my last post (in the early 190's, I think), I meant "a bammer other than Faker", obviously.
Monica, I agree. That's a long way to go for a former player.
Somebody call Josh Moon and tell him why the Malzahn hire is different than the Tony Franklin hire. 1-800-239-9544.
Thank you, Luv.
esp. since he's not even playing...
Monica,
I totally agree with you.... everyone and their momma is ripping CGC because he said he would go back to running the football in his presser.... if I'm not mistaken I think he actually said the we would be "Physical" how all these talking heads got his words screwed up is beyond me....
Also
Moon knows as much about football as Jessica Simpson. Doug isn't much better. Just something to pass the time, that's all.
Well, I believe (please forgive me Josh and Doug is I'm hearing you incorrectly), but I believe they are saying Malzahn is NOT physical and so it seems counter to what Chizik alleged his plan to be.
I don't know what they're looking at Mon. A 60/40 ratio run to pass plays seems to be doing a little more than just finesse work.
Malzahn is physical. He wrestles bears in his free time.
By the way, I am mostly concerned with an offense that scores points. The whole "playing physical" thing... it's all just talk. You can run the spread and play physical. Does "playing physical" mean we are going to run the ball up the middle every time, and darn it, our linemen are going to whip their lineman? Because if that is all that playing physical is, then make Yox the O-coordinator and save us some money.
Chizik, on his offensive philosophy
"I think it is 200 years old to be honest with you. I think on offense right now you have to be able to run the football and I don’t think that has changed since forever. That doesn’t mean that we aren’t going to throw the ball, but in my opinion, in order to win you have to be able to run the ball."
I don't read anything in this about we are not going to run a spread offense. It seems everyone is acting like this guy just doesn't know what he is doing...He said we were going to be physical and 3 yards and cloud of dust....Not so he says what everyone believes, you have to be able to run the ball and I think he feels that Gus can get that done.
Michael nailed it. Auburn has got to score more than 17 points a game to win consistently. I am all for strong defense, but 17 points is pathetic.
It's good jhz....
1. Phyzical is a state of mind.
2. If you practice phyzically your team will be phyzical. That is what franklin lacked not sure about Malzahn.
3. Regarding Mozeley kid. You have to offer him simply because he is Mr. football. You don't want him to come back and haunt you 4 yearz down the road.
Significant problem revealed ... Saban sends Andre Smith home.
tigerfanz,
I totally agree.... we need to be phyzical, but we have to attract talent from the highzchool level....
Recruitz want to play in a wide open zyztem where the ballz are thrown all over the place....
No one wantz to play in a three yardz and a could of duzt offenze... thoze dayz are gone....
Zpread you out and run or pazz the ball with your playmakerz....
Mobilz we just have to commit fully to Gus and hiz offenze.
Jet,
Are you zerious about Andre Zmith being zent home?
I zound like Elmer Fudd! lol
Smith sent home per rivals. Broke team rulz.
I can't find the Andre Smith stuff anywhere. What is your source, Jet? And don't tell me it is personality #5 either! (it's ok if it is personality #3. That dude has some good sources)
I'll be heading up to Auburn around 3. Press conference for Malzahn/Chizik is 5:30 or so.
Not sure on video yet, but I will have full coverage of the event.
Yez ... Take a look at the Beelzebub Daily Herald. It's there.
In re Clint Moseley ... you sign him if he evaluates as a player.
It's a popularity contest. It's a bunch of sports writers picking it.
Half the time they pick someone who's never heard from again. For every Carnell Williams/Julio Jones/JaMarcus Russell, there's a Tommy Compton, Roderick Green and Cory Whisenant.
I have no idea about the guy, except to say he's not an automatic because he's Mr. Football.
If we recruited that way, based on state championships and titles, Vincent Jackson would have gone somewhere else.
any news on cotton lately?
A guy I played with in high school was Mr Football. I thought he was amazing. He didn't get a scholarship offer in the SEC, he walked on at Ole Miss, he quit after a year and tried to play at some small Tennessee college and eventually quit there.
Mr Football = college success about like Heisman = Pro success. It is not automatic at all.
Just hopped in next to Rodney on a ride and sang to him the whole way, "It's a Small World After All."
already covered?
Malzahn *does* coach QBs for Tulsa
http://tulsahurricane.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/malzahn_gus00.html
bharris - Willis has talked to Cotton Jr, Cotton Sr and Cotton's mama. Now, they are planning a sit down with Chizik and Malzahn.
You don't look at Moseley because he's Mr. Football for pete's sake. However this is a reason to look at him:
"Moseley's 8,413 career passing yards rank fifth in AHSAA history and his 79 touchdown passes rank seventh. He also finished his career on a 25-game winning streak with three straight state championships."
Major props to Nick Saban for suspending someone like Andre Smith. I'm sure there are quite a few coaches who wouldn't have.
I am still in "Screw the SEC" mode, by the way, and I hope Florida and Alabama get killed.
Go Gators
Go Utes
Michael, despite my myriad of personalities ... I have one mode when it comes to the Infidels.
It does not involve appeasement, appreciation, benign neglect or tacit support.
It does involve pain, destruction, decapitation, decimation and eradication.
mon, had willis been recruiting cotton from the begining? (originally from mobile, i would think so)
I have no idea who Clint Moseley is, and this is the first I have heard of him, so he may be great. He is two stars at scout and three stars at rivals, so he must have not been too impressive at combines or been playing against inferior opponents or something. Either way, no other major D-1 programs have offered him, so I can't fault our guys for not doing it either. Maybe we can get him as a walk on.
What'z the ztatuz on Onterrio and Cam Kenney'z paperwork. Zoundz like OM waz on board lazt week before Malz was announced, and I zaw where Kenney iz a big fan of the hire az well. Monica, do you know if theze guyz have our fax #/ mailing addrezz?
After reading all these posts, why do I feel like eating at Zaxby's?
Michael- If I was a betting man, I would bet Saban had no choice but suspension, unless he wanted to start forfeiting games and having NCAA hearings. At least that is the perception of this mess.
I am officially starting rumor that Andre signed with an agent in the preseason, and that Alabama is forfeiting all of its wins -- giving us a winning streak of 7.
Seven fingers up, all!
Because chicken fingers are the prime source of nutrition to most innovative offensive coordinators, Jet.
7!!!
If your theory is right concerning chicken fingers, my two children will grow up to unleash an offense the likes of which has never been seen -- the ZaxBone Spread.
It will be unstoppable. Thankfully, both of their hearts are in the right place.
And on Andre Smith's situation. You don't think it might involve some coversations, dealings, negotiations, with a sports agent a few weeks too early do you? I read a rumor that it might have something to do with the immoral trappings of Rue de Bourbon, but that seems unlikely. Usually if players get suspended for drinking, breaking curfew, etc... it is usually a group of them.
Will- That is the question of the hour. Oh the irony if they are forced to forfeit games.
Jet, do your children also like coconuts? Because coconut is the main source of nutrition to offensive coordinators who believe in smash-mouth football.
Rumor has it that when interviewing coordinators, Chizik asked them if they were into coconut-crusted chicken fingers. Malzahn ate the whole plate in a snap. The rest is history.
Maybe Andre Smith's situation is a combination of things. Perhaps he got drunk with an agent on Bourbon Street.
NO, I'm the coconut fan in the house ... Almond Joys, German Chocolate cakes. etc.
Together, we can rule the world. My kids and I could have a dynasty like the Kennedys!
If Jet is right and UAT has to forefeit the Iron Bowl, then Tubs' streak goes to 7 and in the reverse space time continuum, he won't be fired (resign), and we will actually have played LA Tech in the Weedeater Bowl last night. Nall won't be chop blocking 18 wheelers, Coach Chizzle is really shooting whiskey and freezing his azz off in Ames, and Malzahn is still on Tulsa time. Did this all really happen or was it just a dream?
Clint Moseley is a winner period.... I don't care how rivals or scout have him stars wise.....
I've seen this kid several times in person, and he can do the following:
1. Make all the throws
2. Has the measurable's 6'4- 195lbs
3. Can run also
4. Wins Football Games (see 25 Game win streak)....
Auburn will extend him a scholly offer, i would be shocked if they did not.....
Michael, how iz it that you can figure out these baffling mysteries of life and football?
This comment has been removed by the author.
I know a lot about football because I know a couple of guys who know things. Fine, you got me. I am Bobby Lowder.
Moseley may be great. But you only have so many scholarships to offer. Is he for sure a lot better than Cotton?
Will ... Hold on, padnah ... let's just make the 7 a going-way present for Tubs.
Michael ... I am confused ... I thought I was Lowder ... that is personality number 666.
I thought Saban was 666
You're right ... tommyd ... Saban is 666 ... Lowder is half-evil ... 333.
255
Lowder is actually a spirit that inhabits different people at different times. That is why he has been so hard to capture.
Michael,
Whats wrong with getting two QB's in this class.... you always want to sign minimum of one... but Chris Todd will not be ready this year after surgery and I'm telling you guys this will be a scholly well worth the offer to Cotton and Moseley.
So yes he is worth the offer, but so is Cotton...
I've only seen Moseley from his state title game last year ... I don't know. I'm not against it ... just want us to be dang sure what we do.
Now hearing Pat Nix has a new title ... former Miami offensive coordinator.
How would Pat do as a WR coach?
Personally, I'd rather have Dameyune or Shayne as my WR coach. Pat needs some image rehab time elsewhere.
And as I sent that last note, I have a feeling the ego (and your agent) doesn't allow one to take a lesser role after you've been an OC the last several years.
Jet,
I agree with you Wadsden or Craig for WR coach!
I think they bring a little more excitement to the position and can teach the younger guys how to get open and run routes....
AUnMob,
Regarding Moseley, remember these two that got passed over by Auburn and Alabama: Phillip Rivers and Patrick White.
Mobile ...
Let's hire 'em both ... let Dameyune coach the backs.
Wait a minute, let's do what Gus wants ... get everybody on his train.
We've got positive energy ... so let's do things to build on the energy ... not pour water on it.
Now, I will argue on Monica's side. Here's the thing i do like about Moseley ... he's a homeboy.
Think of our best QBs (Sullivan, R. Campbell, Burger, Slack, White, Nix, Craig, J. Campbell, Cox) ... they were home-grown or not far away. Slack was practically Monica's neighbor across the stateline.
I guess Jason qualifies as the one from the greatest distance. Cotton did live in Mobile, but he doesn't have deep roots there.
I like kids that understand what they're getting into and dreamed of doing it. Just like I did when I was kid ... except I stunk at football.
Klaus, you are mistaken.
Philip Rivers played TE for three years at Auburn before quitting the team to work at Wal-Mart.
Pat White was a DB for two seasons at Auburn before suffering a career-ending ingrown toenail injury.
I think I would prefer to have an ex-WR coach the WRz but that's just my pref.
I dont know about signing both Mosley and Cotton. We already have alot of QBz on this rozter and OL/WR are more prezzing pozitionz.
http://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/apps/pbcs.dll/gallery?Avis=DS&Dato=20081218&Kategori=NEWS01&Lopenr=812180803&Ref=PH&Params=Itemnr=7
One of Saban's studs gets sent home and one of his girls was taken off the street...The REC is going to be down on funds if this continues..
269 YEAH!!
AUBigcat... you could never have enuff QB's...
Rodney and I are on the teacups ... I won't let him off until he says YEZZZZ!!!!
So, what did A Smith do? Cash his REC check too early? Eat one of Saban's fingers off while swiping his double-cheeseburger? The funny part is hearing the Bama fans bragging on Strict Nicky. Anyone remember the La-Monroe game when DJ Hall was suspended for the game and magically appeared in the 3rd quarter? Is this Antonio Langham the sequel?
The Pat O'Brien Napkin Chronicles II: Interview With the Agent by Anne Rice. That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.
Jay say anything about covering the Malzhan press conference?
jet, New Orleans and bama don't mix. I guess the corruption in that city rubs off on the outstanding citizens from Tuscaloosa. Voodoo?
New Orleans ... why don't you do that voodoo that you do so well?
The Rap Sheet is saying Smith had improper agent contact.
Ok. How many schools in the SEC are running "the spread" as the primary offensive playbook?
(I realize there are many versions.)
