I for one am willing to take that chance. CTT wasn't going to turn it around in '09.
I'm out of here folks. barkley, we need to have this conversation in a couple of years, but I am sure the excuse will be that Jacobs hired the wrong guy.
WE WERE 5-7. IT CAN'T GET MUCH WORSE.
5-7
Yeah, I bet in a couple of years we're better than 5-7.
Later.
There is something wrong to be one of the greatest coaches and only have 1 SEC Championship in 10 yrs.
You are right ballin and barkley. We must bring in a worse coach to win more games.
Yeah, that's exactly what I said. Bring on Rush Propst.
Barkley..go look at Oklahoma after Switzer and USC after Robinson(first time). There aren't many more teams that meet your requirements, so it's tuff to find more examples. Fla. only had one boo-boo..Spurrier..Zook...Meyer. UGA only had 2 after Dooley.
BTW...Dooley and Shug don't meet your requirements. I guess you think that they are mediocre.
No sense dwelling on the past Steve. AU fired a good coach but it had to be done.
Hoopie, facts have nothing to do with it. We need change and it really doesn't matter what the change is.
I think we all can agree that Golden Flake chips just won't taste quite the same without ole Tubs around.
And the next time one of these "Tommy Sucks" "No Tommy was the best, YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW!" arguments comes up, can someone just provide a link to older arguments or something? I mean, this horse is beyond dead. It has been beaten so badly, it's mother is dead too.
Better yet, who wants the action item to create a website of the best arguments on both sides? Free HABOTN t-shirt courtesy of monica for whoever does this. As original as you feel your argument is, it has been made a minimum of 7 times already in another thread. Let's move on, eh?
Seeker, that is curious. Why did it have to be done? We were already embarrassed enough over Jetgate, weren't we?
I agree that we must move on. Let the next several years set the example.
I apologize for not assuming our program is entering a dark age after firing someone who went 5-7.
This could go on all day. I think it was Tubs time to go, you don't. It's a matter of opinion, and a matter of expectations.
The biggest issues with Auburn aren't the HC and not even the coaching staff.
Yea, I suppose so. Part of this is because of the frustration with the coaching search and why we haven't been able to attract top candidates and that has nothing to do with the previous coach.
Barker.....you need to check yourself. considering someone a LOSER because they don't expect football perfecton smacks of...."My Football Team's Success Determine's My Self Esteem". If you really believe that. That neurosis is the embodiment of the prototypical Bammer.
Real AU folks don't call people LOSER.
Steve- It was not going to work out for Tubs with that hole Lowder around. You can't fire the $$ so Tubs had to go. Now we will see how much support they give the new guy.
Ballin..that's fine to take that chance. Just remember to also blame yourself when you are whining again in a couple of years.
Who did I call a loser?
The reason we can't attract a top guy is also probably because of potential interference from certain boosters. I don't think it's a big secret to the coaching world.
The funny thing about this discussion is that the only people who thought CTT had lost his edge were the AU fans that have complained for the past 3 years. The football world had enough faith in CTT that they had us slated to win the SECCG with 2 new coordinators and an unproven QB.
Michael, you're still my vote for funniest Hottie. And I agree about the link...
Seeker, you are correct. It is the biggest issue we will have and it doesn't matter whether the BOT is involved in athletics now or not. The perception is there. The perception is also there that we fired a successful coach. Some analyst on Mindbomb confirmed this earlier. He was asked how many national coaches were aware of this and he responded all of them.
I don't know how much the BOT is involved with athletics at this point although many say they are very invovle. It doesn't really matter. The only way to fix this would be for certain BOT members to leave.
There is also another side of this that I believe Jay has expressed. Tuberville apparently didn't attempt to heal the situation with some BOT members either, so there is plenty of blame to go around.
Go read the national boards..most say that the best coach out there is available is CTT.
Michael....My point really wasn't to discuss CTT. My point is for the complainers blame themselves when this doesn't work. In normal circumstances we probably have a 25% chance of hiring the right coach. B/c of CN$ the stakes are higher and the % are less.
Still waiting on an answer Hoopie.....
The only time I mentioned the word loser was when I said this.
"Man, who would've thought of fans complaining after a 5-7 season. What a bunch of losers, huh?"
That was a sarcastic response to your comment that blamed the people who "complain" for the situation Auburn is in.
So don't accuse me of stuff I didn't say.
AUBigCat, that is a very good point. Many people seem to think we don't have offensive talent. We do. This season we had one incredibly poor coaching performance by the offensive staff. It is pointless to blame it on a particular member of the staff. It is just apparent that Franklin was not able to work with this staff. The blame there has to lie with Franklin unless Tuberville wasn't willing to take Franklin's advice and support his decisions with regard to the assistants. We don't know everything that went on there.
Steve..the "healing" action required of CTT would have required capitulation and buttkissing.
Hoopie, you are correct when you say that in the eyes of the coaching profession, the best candidate available for us is Tuberville.
Michael - I'd actually spring for the shirt if you could bury this horse.
Hoopie, I don't know enough about that to say for sure. I do know that Tuberville can be stubborn. There usually isn't one specific person to blame for a situation. It is the actions of multiple people that result in the damage that has been done.
Fbaum is sure doing his part to keep the Muschamp story alive.
Monica, please give us a new topic.
I know for a fact that Bama fans wanted Tubs to stay. They wanted a chance to even the score with what they consider a level playing field now.
As i am sure, most Auburn fans wanted Mikey Shula to stay.
I got sick of listening to Mindbomb. There was something about him criticizing bad journalism that wasn't the type of ironic irony I prefer.
If we hire Jack Del Rio or whatever his name is, maybe he will bring Mike Shula over with him. That would be ausome.
I was surprised that CTT didn't (at least ceremonously)smooch the cheek. Some of his personal strengths were also his weaknesses. He certainly was no one's lackey.
I wonder if all the D1 cfb coaches got together and agreed that the AU PTB were too detrimental to swim against. Pat Dye may be the only guy left that will put up with them.
Hoopie I won't be whining as you say if this hire doesn't work out. Hope the new coach is here longer than ten yrs. If it doesn't, then maybe the one after that will be. This isn't like a holy marriage. Divorce can be an option if it doesn't work out.
I can't believe we are still debating the "loss" of Tubberville. He was good for Auburn, had great success, accumulated some powerful enemies, received some wounds and infilicted some that were never gonna heal and as such decided he would leave because the enemies weren't. End of story, move the hell on. Lowder will die one day, but there will always be someone there to take his place. We can debate how the meddling those type of folks bring down the football program all day long, but the bottom line is that folks like him contibute enough funds to the school to get their names on an awful lot of buildings. I can't recollect one named after Tubberville.
Ultimate Irony....Shula coaches AU to 10 straight wins over Bama.
I've got it --- Hire Setev Spurrier and offer Steve Spurrier Jr. the "Coach-in-Waiting" job.
Spurrier for 4-5 years and his son's groomed to take over.
I think he's well respected and about 37 yrs old at the moment.
Ballin....the initial point of my comments this afternoon were "don't whine in a few years when..". OK..new subject.
I'm actually getting to listen to Mindbomb. A Bammer suggested that AU hire a female HC. I'll take Barbara Dooley with Derek as the HCIW.
Auburn could get Muschamp if JJ weren't the AD. While nothing would please me more than replacing JJ with Tubbs, I'm not sure Muschamp would make me jump up and down. If Boom-Boom thinks for a second that Texas would turn that program over to him were Mack to retire in the next year or two, he's headbutted one too many of his defensive players on the sidelines.
Wife says I have to stay off HOT-BOTN as she calls it. She's taking a nap. I need my meth. Oh, no, she's waking up. I'll saying I'm talking to Turner Gill. She thinks he's a country music singer.
I heard fartbomb yesterday do something I hadn't notcied before.
A guy called and challenged him on something that he seemed to be rattled by. The guy seemed to be comfortable on the phone and being the little wuss he is, he cut him off and hung up on him.
Later, about 20 minutes, a woman called who went to So. Car and you could tell she wasn't comfortable on the phone and wanted to basically say that this shouldn't turn into a bash So. Car discussion.
Oh, Finebaum lit into her. He kept her on the line and asked her stupid questions about SC football he knew she didn't know. Saying things about the stadium and bashing the county fair or something.
To me, he embarrassed himself. He wouldn't take up the challenge from the man who was prepared & could handle himself on the radio.
He went after this woman.
What a P.O.S little worm.
finebaum is the sean hannity of football talk radio.
and Colmes is the little woman.
Kris one b in tuberville.
Finebaum is a spineless fleck of feces
Jet:

($1.00 to Whitney Houston)
Just came on to read, but gotta go. Heard Muschamp was a go until the newsleaked out before he told Brown. Everyone at AU thought it was him. Spurrier never in it.
Interviewing P Johnson this weekend. Patterson withdrew name.
I heard Hannity and Colmes were splitting up.
Hearing Tony Barnhardt on Fbaum was interesting.
Chris...I heard that yesterday also. A similar guy called today, fb mumbled something and cut him off.
My BrothertheBammer says that fb will give time to a "mark" several times a day and will cut off someone that is good and challenges. He wants you lite comments and then ask his opinion.
I was thinging something and I just read it on The JCCW:
Muschamp may have been considering the jump to AU but that turd or terd of a Fox affiliate in Mobile jumped the gun and reported it like a bunch of 13 yr old girls.
Think of it just like Les Miles on his way to Michigan. Bags packed and mind made up. Right up until that scrodum Kirk Herbstreit went on Gameday before the SECCG and said Miles was going to go.
So, thanks to this Mobile station -- maybe Bammers -- we lose BOOOOM MF'er -- You Ain't Hurt --- knock the MoFo'ers out ---
We need to email that station and find out what their motives were. Did they NOT want AU to land Muschy?
http://www.warblogeagle.com/
Please GOD no Paul Johnson.
Oh, also - FWIW -- new job offered and I snatched their arm off.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
Oh, the Government didn't bailout the Auto Industry?
Oh, just the AMERICAN AUTO INDUSTRY.
Guys, I work(ed) in the business and GM has the WORST business model in the history of mankind.
Congrats, Chris! Great news.
Mon, The AJC posts his column each weekday. It's my first stop, I like perspective from afar. Nevertheless, the HABOTN is the second stop.
The AJC is laying him off after the BCSMNC reporting is over. So far he hasn't given hints where he will land. My guess is TV. A combo of ESPN and CSS freelancing.
I know none of you actually believe Boom "changed his mind" because the news was released. That's silly.
Chris..congrats....are you out of Autos?
Monica - why not?
He hasn't met with AU but may have wanted to. But before he gets a shot he has to answer to THIS!
Without a gurantee of the AU job he couldn't have seemed interetsed in it.
Auburn didn't have Muschamp on the hook, they at least had him eyeing the bait. Right up until the point, that is, when Fox10 went live and Muschamp had to start telling everyone in sight "What? I love Texas! Never thought about leaving! Head coach-in-waiting, that's me! Nothing to see here, folks, not with good ol' Texas-lovin' Will Muschamp!" so he still had a place to sleep in Austin tonight.**
If the Les Miles-Mich situation was true.....Les had no choice..he was playing for the national championship the next day.
If AU was going to announce the next am...why would 12 hours matter to Boom?
"He hasn't met with AU"
Chris - how do you know?
Yep - I went from commission ONLY and working horrendous hours -- did I mention commission ONLY. No draw no ntothing?
Now, its salary plus commission and working about 32-36 hrs a week.
Yah - daddy gets to see soccer matches and have breakfast with the family on saturdays!!
Guys, its a major, major BLESSING.
This fell straight from heaven.
That's a heck of a lifestyle change, Chris. Happy for you and your family.
I guess I'm going from all reports.
I'm not going to pretend its the be-all end-all.
Miles was playing for the SEC championship not the BCS. He had just lost to Arky and needed a miracle to make the BCSCG, right?
Either way - Fox 10 Mobile made a fool of itself unless it wanted to.
Most are saying Turner Gill is back on top.
Monica, I believe Muschamp may have been considering the job but when push came to shove, he stuck with Texas. It may have been they hadn't agreed on terms and he felt this would force him to accept whatever terms if Texas got wind of it.
Gene Chizik is a good coach that went to an impossible situation.
this just was on www.fox10tv.com
Muschamp speaks with

MOBILE, Ala. - FOX 10 Sports Anchor Joe Emer just got off the phone with Texas Defensive Coordinator Will Muschamp. Muschamp did not want the phone call to be recorded, but spoke openly about the reports surrounding him leaving Texas for Auburn.
Muschamp said, there is "zero chance" he'll leave Texas for the head coaching job at Auburn.
He added, "I'm going to be the next head coach at the University of Texas."
When asked about contact between him and Auburn University, Muschamp said he's never been contacted, "not even a phone call." Muschamp also wanted to let his recruits know he is staying at the University of Texas.
As promised, Fox10 will continue to gather information regarding the Auburn coaching search. Check Fox10tv.com or watch Fox10 News for any updates.
Hoops -- I'm not out of Autos for another couple of weeks.
And if anyone needs advice about the in and outs of the car business, just ask.
I respect sales people tremendously and I can advise you on how to get the best deal and be fair to your fellow man.
Muschamp also wanted to let his recruits know he is staying at the University of Texas.
Thank you Fox 10 -- that's great journalism right there.
Scumbags.
OOPs...that was the SECCG when the ol' blueeyes got the scoop. Wifey got his autograph in 2004 at the SECCG. She watches portions of gameday just to swoon.

Chris, I'm in Real Estate Development, fighting off bankruptcy and wonderin' where the bank bailout money went. Actually they have the money, they are so nervous, they won't lend it.
I just figured out why the Jacobs mafia rushed into an SUV at the airport. I bet Jacobs pissed off Muschamp, Muschamp head butted him, and Jacobs is hiding the bruises. I have had no credible source disprove this theory. By any chance did anyone here Jacobs ask another member of the Jacobs mafia what "Boom Beotch!!!" means?
Probably on the bammer payroll.
Just say no to Johnson!!!
Phred or someone said the other night that they wouldn't believe the coach selection until they heard the pine box comment.
Boom just gave a pine box comment.
Meant to say Fox 10 on the bammer payroll.
I just sent a "nasty" to Fox 10 in Mobile.
I gotta run. Time to clock out here at the lot.
Paul Johnson seems to be one of the few coaches that could come in and get us on the winning track immediately. I just don't see his offense ever allowing us to contend for the national title, and likely not the SEC title. You really need more balance than that. He would likely be an 8 or 9 win guy off the bat, but I don't see him gradually improving.
Most of the other candidates seem like they would be 7 or 8 wins starting out, but may have a bigger upside down the road.
I am really not tied into an offensive philosophy. Whether we go wide open or conservative doesn't matter, but we need a balanced attack to compete on a national scale.
seems to me like somebody has screwed up something bad in this search in the last couple of days.
i'm in real estate appraisal out here and noone is lending money. rates are incredibly low, but qualifications are ridiculously high. send money, mom!
oh, avatar = my dog codey blue. 1995-2008
now Chizik has interviewed. holy cow. why didn't they just stop at Gill?
In a desparate search for a hint at who might be the leading candidate at Auburn, I headed to the JCCW. After reading the story about the Patterson flop, I felt disappointed. There wasn't any real relevations there.
Then I read the first comment to the blog. The comment was from someone identified as "Alex P". The first sentence of his response to the blog shed an entirely new light on my view of Jay Jacobs. The comment read as follows.
Jacobs is a butt plug.
Now, I am no analyst and I am certainly not qualified to evaluate athletic directors, but some comments just make you go hmmm. I wonder why that came to mind. Maybe Alex is planning a wild time this weekend. I don't know.
Gill has taken an abysmal program to a conf. championship
Chizik has taken an abysmal program, um, nowhere
PMarsh is pushing for Rodney Garner on his blog.
barkley, I haven't considered Garner as a legitimate candidate for HC. He is a great recruiter, but I would really be surprised if he were the choice.
That makes me wonder a bit about Marshall.
I don't know why Phillip thinks he would be such a good choice.
A lot of this has to do with what you want out of a head coach. To me, being a good recruiter is a plus, but being a good manager is the key. A good manager isolates his staff from outside pressures and allows them to do their jobs. A good manager settles disputes by laying down the law when compromise isn't an option. A good manager is willing to get rid of problem staff members or players, whether they be friends or not. A good manager will be able to stand up to the Auburn administration and live or die by his own decisions and not be pushed into doing things to please the higher ups.
Rodney Garner is a great recruiter. When I first heard about that interview, I was hoping it was for a spot on the staff. Maybe that's still a possibility, who knows.
Steve..I read your 6:30 post. It seems that you may have attended a few middle-upper management leadership seminars.
Gene Chizik?
He's 5-19 in two seasons at Iowa State.
Does this even qualify as a smokescreen? That's more like repellent.
I agree Jay, some of this is absurd.
Absurd is right!
Jay G., do you think the Muschamp thing fell apart due to the Mobile report?
Not at all.
It may have fallen apart, but it had nothing to do with a Mobile TV station disseminating inaccurate information.
Jay,
Have today's events changed your thoughts on the time frame for when a new coach will be hired?
THREE HUNDRED
So, I am convinced that I must be dreaming. From Auburn Undercover:
"...the interview with Iowa State head coach Gene Chizik on Thursday was more than token and that Chizik is considered a viable candidate to replace Tommy Tuberville..."
Did anyone actually believe we had a chance to get Chizik to give up that cushy Iowa State gig?
