Protest coverage

One of the Advertiser's most experienced part-time writers made the trip over to Auburn today for the big pro-Tuberville protest.

Here is his latest dispatch:
AUBURN _ About 100 Auburn University students demonstrated Tuesday in front of the mansion of President Jay Gogue in support of former football coach Tommy Tuberville.

The students marched several blocks from the AU student center, yelling fight songs and criticizing several Auburn executives including trustee Bobby Lowder of Montgomery.

Outside the president's mansion, one of the students called athletic director Jay Jacobs a "puppet" of Lowder, one of the university's most influential trustees.

  9. Just voted for the Heisman.

They asked that I keep my vote "confidential," so I'll respect that until Saturday.

A guy from Oregon monitors votes privately at StiffArmTrophy.com

...not that I'd ever submit my information to him ahead of time, of course.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Jay:

I'm sure that Chris Todd appreciates your vote.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I thought he was very deserving.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Where do they think this is Haight-Asbury in San Francisco? I heard that Country Joe and the Fish were going to be playing later along with Peter Paul and Mary.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I saw Gracie Slick over there at the paraphernalia tent.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Jay is a straight-laced journalist. kind of like my uncle a captain in opelika p.d., but never gets me out of speeding tickets

    ReplyDelete
  15. This hippies wouldn't have so much time on their hands to protest if they would just get a darn job.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm sure the paraphernalia tent is just a quick stop off for Grace Slick between enjoying her time with every possible male in attendance at the protest.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Jay,

who did you vote for last year?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Could we drop the topless female hottie protest crap?

    ReplyDelete
  22. So you think it's ok for y'all to talk like this about the many, many females who read this blog? You think this is cute?

    ReplyDelete
  23. absolutely not, i just asked a question.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I have never even heard of that webpage.

    ReplyDelete
  25. RK, its an internet inside source....it has to be true...right?

    ReplyDelete
  26. uh-oh i'm gettin nervous as to what Mon is gonna do to y'all

This once great place has turned into the same stuff that ruins all message boards/online fan interaction places.

Doesn't take a lot to go for the lowest common denominator.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Good point Sean, what was I thinking?

    ReplyDelete
  32. That's weak, Faker. If you genuinely think that's either an excuse or the same thing you're not very bright.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I guess I'm in the dark, what is GKG?

    ReplyDelete
  34. I was wondering the same thing. gkg?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Kristina - I do find it offensive. I found it offense when Steve first posted it. I find it offensive the Faker keeps it going. If I have to explain to you why it is offensive there's not point in trying.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Somebody help out the slow kid. What is GKG?

It's been a few minutes, so it's safe to start typing CTG for our head coach, right? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Was Bo Megginson fired as the host of Auburn Undercover radio, or is the guy on there now just there for this week?

    ReplyDelete
  38. harsh words there sensible... care to elaborate?

    ReplyDelete
  39. weagle, I'm still waiting on that...although never doubt the source of a source.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Ron,

I'm sure he's aiming them at me, and that is fine.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Never mind, Megginson is just late today.

I thought the show might have improved since I last listened.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Anonymous4:13 PM

Actually, I wasn't singling anyone out in particular, FSJ. Just the discussion.

Sorry to see you are taking this personally.

    ReplyDelete
  43. i guess we'll never know what gkg is RK

    ReplyDelete
  44. Mr. Sensible, surely it goes further than that, besides right now there's not much to discuss. Still waiting on an announcement and who knows when that will occur. According to one person its already about 15 min late.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yikes, things are getting hairy in here. Sensible is saying the Hotties have gone all AL.com (though he will probably banhammerbate the post as he often does to his most controversial thoughts), and the Sexual Harrassment Panda is about to have to be called in to settle this whole protest business

Boy. This is Days of our Lives stuff goin on up in here.

    ReplyDelete
  46. jgt, checked out your "stiff arm" link. it appears to be, per that site, shaping up to be a regional heisman vote.

    ReplyDelete
  47. It's at this point where, I, Jet, self-appointed Athletic Director in Waiting, tell everyone to calm down, clean up their act, don't offend the female Hotties, and most importantly, ask everyone to join me on the BOOM Train to Buttkickvegas.

    ReplyDelete
  48. YES! The sexual harrassment panda!

    ReplyDelete
  49. the protest made it on ESPN.com... wow

    ReplyDelete
  50. Harrison,

I guess we could make something up that GKG stands for.

    ReplyDelete
  51. It must be something almost dirty or risque.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Wow. I could get 70 people to protest low-fat pudding. How is this newsworthy on a national scale?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Girl Kissing Girl you goobers!

    ReplyDelete
  54. GKG stands for Grimace Killed Giraffes. It was a book about the McDonald's character's previous career as a poacher in Africa.

    ReplyDelete
  55. why is it that we always look foolish when we are on the national media?

    ReplyDelete
  56. michael, I KNEW IT!

    ReplyDelete
  57. 70 protesters at of 23,000 some odd students makes us look bad nationwide

    ReplyDelete
  58. Anyone see a CTG announcement yet, still waiting here? Monica thanks for clearing up the confusion, I have removed my comment referencing the acronymn. As far as national media is concerned, what fun is to cover positive news about a school when there's so much controversial material around...I mean seriously? I think it gets old as well.

    ReplyDelete
  59. whew, thanks mon. it was eating me uo inside.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I think it makes us look good. Only 70 out of the whole school think it's all a conspiracy? It would look bad to the nation and recruits if 15,000 people came out and chanted. But 70? That's nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I guess it is the same thing with a tornado, that is the media only interviews the crazy ones.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Potential next head coach was on Letterman:

    http://www.fannation.com/si_blogs/for_the_record/posts/30601-ball-state-coach-brady-hoke-presents-top-ten-on-letterman?eref=fromSI

    ReplyDelete
  63. i was interviewed after a tornado in Gadsden once. It didn't make the news, guess my grammer was pretty solid

    ReplyDelete
  64. The size of the demonstration was severely curtailed when organizers required all protesters to show a student ticket stub from the UT-Martin game in order to participate.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I, shesaid, one representative of the female HOTTIES, hereby avow that I am not offended by anyone's comments about the protest. In fact, I think there should be more such acts of civil disobedience.....just not about the firing/resignation of a FOOTBALL COACH!!!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Everyone must be commuting. At least I hope because the chatter has died down.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I'm still here, I'm just burning some CD's for my trip to Asheville.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Did ESPN cover the drunken slob of a woman that hugged saint nicky at his bama introduction and then got a DUI on her way home?

    ReplyDelete
  69. That's the first I've heard of that. Is there is a YouTube of that?

    ReplyDelete
  70. I got nervous that everyone was boycotting the HABOTN because I made a rare appearance on here.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Why are you the black sheep of the bunch?

    ReplyDelete
  72. I'm sure there is Sean, although I am not computer savy enough to post a link. When it first happened a buddy of mine e-mailed me the video of her reaching out and slobbering all over him. It was pretty funny.

    ReplyDelete
  73. that lady is hilarious.

    ReplyDelete
  74. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AD1Gxrl4tLs&feature=related

    Here it is. Epic.

    ReplyDelete
  75. shesaid is the woMAN!

    ReplyDelete
  76. I almost wish that lady was like my aunt that came around only like once a year

    ReplyDelete
  77. Are there Auburn fans like her? That's my worst nightmare.

    ReplyDelete
  78. FYI...Comebacks is on HBO right now.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Apparently, this thing isn't going to be over soon. There's talk of more interviews to come after new york. It seems as if this will go on for at least another week.

    ReplyDelete
  80. great video. was that a $100 in saban's hands?

    ReplyDelete
  81. comebacks is hilarious...i think it won an oscar. for best movie ever made

    ReplyDelete
  82. "more talks after ny" = on campus interview for "the chosen one"?

    ReplyDelete
  83. Yeah Harrison, I'm watching it for the first time. Hilarious.

    ReplyDelete
  84. SNAP! Singing Journey in the locker room.

    ReplyDelete
  85. What is really terrible about the protest is the fliers that they put up around campus. It was fine, until it read : WHERE ALL ORANGE at the bottom of the page. I'm sorry, I refuse to follow someone who does not understand basic grammar.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I tried to tell you it was awesome, and you poo-pooed it.

    ReplyDelete
  87. did you follow george w. bush?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Harrison, I never poo-poohed it. That was Joe. He's a movie snob. Dude knows every movie that was ever made. I love a ridiculous movie that is hilarious. I watch Talladega Nights at least 3 times a month.

    ReplyDelete
  89. oh my bad. Since I only know you guys by e-mail it's hard to remember who said what. well tell joe how awesome it is

    ReplyDelete
  90. You're forgiven. Hanging out with Jason and Will makes you good people in my book.

    ReplyDelete
  91. AuburnUnderCover is saying Fisher is out, Nutt is out, Johnson is happy where he is at. He is now reporting that Spurrier's name is gaining speed . They are saying that Gill has fallen down the list due to the lack of SE recruiting knowledge.

    ReplyDelete
  92. yeah. thanks. i'm okay

    ReplyDelete
  93. I think Collette was covered pretty thoroughly back in the day. She was just too good to pass up.

    "Woooo!! We bowlin' baby!"

I'm not sure how far ESPN went with it though.

    ReplyDelete
  94. For the most part PMarsh toes the company line, so I'm not sure what to believe.

    ReplyDelete
  95. i think she said "we ballin' baby". that's what the hip kids would say

    ReplyDelete
  96. Spurrier vs Saban in recruiting? Don't like that matchup. As great as Spurrier has been, that would be a short-sighted move IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Spurrier has always been hands off in recruiting.

    He let Florida recruit itself.

    ReplyDelete
  98. SheSaid rocks. I mean,,,,SheSaid is quite the young lady.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Looking over at Goldbergs blog, he mentions that they are looking at about 6 guys and that there are more interviews to come. He also made note that they were looking to someone with SEC connections. And it seems like he is saying head coaches are a priority. Which leads me to believe that all of the names we heard are exactly what Jay has suggested they are, smoke. I would almost bet Gill is out.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Sad news, I was really hoping for Turner Gill. This new information makes me worry that much more that JJ is going to screw this up.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Butch Davis is recovering from a successful battle with Lymphoma. Did not know that until today. I'm thinking that would greatly decrease his desire to be somewhere new.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I think the goal is to get so many names out there, cause so much confusion and give so many people the run around that when they finally name someone they will be accepted by everyone just due to the headache being over.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Whether you believe it or not Turner gillhas had a face to face interview and a phone interview but he will not be offered the job. My source and it is a unknown and will stay unknown until Will Mushamp is offered the Auburn job in the next 3 to 4 days and will be accepted. TAKE MY WORD ON IT!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Thanks, Denny. Means a lot coming from a b-ball legend like yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Trent, what did you just say?

    ReplyDelete
  106. Don't dare question me about my source, but take it to the bank....hmmmm...FIre for effect, Smoke, over.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Turner Gill will not be offered the Auburn job even after a face to face interview and a phone interview. Will Muschamp will be named Auburn's new Head Coack w/ in 3 to 4 days. TAKE THAT TO THE BANK

    ReplyDelete
  108. Dooley has confirmed auburn contact. I'll update when I get home.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Trent I hope you are right.
Maybe you and WTC have same source. He has said same thing for a while now.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Hey,ESPN.com's Tim Keown mentioned Olive Tuberville in his column today.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I'm through with this mess. It's just nauseating. If Muschamp becomes our HC I will denounce my allegiance to AU. We better get a damn good OC because I know our opponents will be scoring lots of points. Don't believe me? Check the stats.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Trent why 3 or 4 days.

    ReplyDelete
  113. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Muskrat cost his team a chance at the MNC

    ReplyDelete
  115. Trent, the longer this goes the more I am starting to believe what you are saying. As much as the media says there is no way Muschamp leaves Texas, I don't know of anything he himself has said publicly about the Auburn job. I have read how happy he and his family are in Austin, but I don't think the quote was made in the context of Auburn's coaching search. Of all the candidates, I think he is the only one that hasn't said anything about the job publicly.

    ReplyDelete
  116. as far as will Muschamp goes, I'll believe he's "out" only after someone else takes the job.

    ReplyDelete
  117. If he is IN does that means JJ is out?

    ReplyDelete
  118. Trent= Jay Jacobs.

    His unnamed source= Bobby Lowder

    ReplyDelete
  119. I'm with you Jay. It is kinda curious how of all the candidates, CWM is the only one that hasn't said anything about it (that I'm aware of).

    ReplyDelete
  120. I do feel your pain P-Funk, although I'm not sure I feel quite so strongly about it. I wouldn't be that disappointed by hiring CWM, especially if getting him meant JJ was replaced by Tubbs.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Maybe CWM is silent because there's just nothing to say.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Trent/Jay Jacobs,

We have figured you out. This is a classic case of hiding in plain site. Your unnamed source(bobby lowder) is using the HABOTN to sound out his choices. The HABOTN is obviously contains the brightest minds on the internet. Plus, you have a College Basketball HOF member like myself to offer advice, like you need any. Jay Jacobs,,,,I mean Trent...you...a...GENIUS, not the boob and stooge that those hippie student think you are.

    ReplyDelete
  123. pmarsh also said derek Dooley wasn't part of this. He also said Paul rhoads "isn't a candidate and hasn't been" ... Right before auburn hired him last year. Just keeping it straight.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Jay, interesting you would say that about Muschamp. P Marshall ,who I know you trust, said on Sportscall yesterday that Muschamp was not and had not been a candidate for the AU job. He said this came from as good a source as there was on the matter. I don't doubt you, but PM seemed very confident in what he said. Any thoughts?

    ReplyDelete
  125. could be statguy, but I'm sure the Texans are burning up the airwaves much like we were when the rumors were swirling about him heading their way.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Trent likes Coldplay...a lot. Coldplay lovers =/= credible football sources.

    ReplyDelete
  127. With all due respect to Pmarsh, his inside Auburn source is now trying to figure out how he's gonna spend 5.1 million.

    ReplyDelete
  128. What I take from this, and what others might should take from it, is that no one knows anything

    ReplyDelete
  129. Muschamp not the only one not saying anything, what has butch davis or chris peterson said about auburn job.

I realy like Turner Gill also some one is going to get winner there if we don't get Muschamp or Davis I hope it is GILL.

    MUSCHAMP 09

    ReplyDelete
  130. right you are Harrison and "I don't know how to tell you this, but I'm kind of a big deal...people know me. I have many leather bound books and my appartment smells of rich mohagony"...figured you'd appreciate that given your avatar.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I appreciate anything Mr.Burgundy has to say. Hardest hitting reporter I've ever seen

    ReplyDelete
  132. I'm kind of a big deal

Seen that on a t-shirt once Kris, very funny.

    ReplyDelete
  133. I was on the Gill bandwagon for a little while until I came to the realization that we don't really have time to hire a coach that will need a map to find Mobile.

    ReplyDelete
  134. yes...when in Rome...

    ReplyDelete
  135. I wish they'd build something to look at on 65 between Mont. and Mobile. It would make that drive way less crappy.

    ReplyDelete
  136. I am not trying to turn this into Jay vs PM. This is my first site to check AU news, as I find Jay more even in his coverage, no offense toward PM. I just thought PM implied that he had spoken to Muschamp himself, or someone very close to him.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Harrison, what is the origin of the words "San Diego"?

    ReplyDelete
  138. Everybody has been wrong and everybody's feelings/leanings have changed over the course of the season and search. I won't believe it is who it is until I see the press conference.

    ReplyDelete
  139. I like PMarsh's writing a lot, but he eats what he's fed and doesn't seem to go too far outside what he's told by Auburn.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Harrison, when I find that myself growing tired of the highway scenery, I turn on my trusty smartphone and hang out with the Hotties....Then again, I feel my obligation is to the HABOTN first, highway safety second.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Monica I have complete faith in Kris and WTC.
They seem very committed to Muschamp. Just hope he doesn't change his mind in the next 3 or 4 days because then I will never believe a word they say.

    ReplyDelete
  142. And this is on how many hours of sleep, Peter?

    ReplyDelete
  143. Peter, you must have been the guy I flipped off the other day...haha j/k but seriously, were you?

    ReplyDelete
  144. Luckily I don't have to drive that way anymore. I did every weekend for a while

I do know the meaning of San Diego, but I'm pretty new here don't want to get thrown off yet

    ReplyDelete
  145. Harrison, I'm pretty sure it means "Saint Diego." I guess we'll agree to disagree.

    When in Rome.

    ReplyDelete
  146. LOL Tigerfan - I meant the "professionals" have all changed their minds. As a matter of fact I may not believe the new coach is the new coach until he's standing on the sidelines! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  147. Harrison, San Diego is Spanish for a "whale's vagina." FYI.

    ReplyDelete
  148. shesaid, She said it.

    ReplyDelete
  149. i didn't know if vagina was a safe word or not...now i know

    ReplyDelete
  150. Monica, I took a nap.

Sean, if you were flipping out on me, I didn't notice. For starters, I was hanging with the Hotties and not paying attention to the crazy drivers around me. Also, I live in south Florida, and have become immune to the antics of passionate people behind the wheel of their cars. There's more horn honking here than in NYC.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Since it's a medical term, I just went for it. It could be worse....right?

    ReplyDelete
  152. geez, I had to get all the way to definition 7 on urbandictionary.com before I figured out the San Diego reference.

    ReplyDelete
  153. way to slow man.

    ReplyDelete
  154. oh yeah..i know worse words. i love dirty words

    ReplyDelete
  155. hate to correct you shesaid, but it is german, not spanish.

    ReplyDelete
  156. It is, in fact, German.

    ReplyDelete
  157. I like Spurrier, funny how people knock his recruiting. The guy currently has the RIVALS # 10 class for 2009. Had teh #22 Class in 2008 #6 in 2007. He has the scout #14 class so far in 2009, he had the #7 2006 scout class. The guy is recruiting to South Carolina, they have very little homegrown talent and split that with Clemson. He still has it, he's just at the wrong area. Auburn has always recruited Florida well and he will blow florida back up. Fear the visor!

    ReplyDelete
  158. Spurrier, would be an interesting hire, short lived, but interesting. I grew up in Central Florida during the early 90's. Was and still am a huge fan, I just don't know if he's a solution we're looking for.

    ReplyDelete
  159. I am glad as hell that none of you are going to teach history any time soon.

San Diego is named after the Catholic Saint Didacus who was commonly known as San (saint) Diego. It was originally a Catholic Mission and it was most definitely not tied to anyone German.

    Back to football.

    ReplyDelete
  160. Easy, Phred. It's from the movie Anchorman. We're just having some fun.

    ReplyDelete
  161. and it doesn't mean that in any language.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Oh ... I don't really have a feel for your humor yet. Learning I guess. Oops.

    ReplyDelete
  164. this from a guy with a picture of saban with a dildo on his head

    ReplyDelete
  165. german words don't end in 'o'.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Scott, it seems as if you need to rent this movie also.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Well, you are new around here so I couldn't make up my mind if you were funny or just not all that bright. My mistake. Carry on.

    ReplyDelete
  168. PMarsh says "Fisher, Gill lose some ground in Auburn's search" that's just the headline. I refuse to pay so don't know what else he said. I didn't know Fisher had any ground to lose!
I sure hope his source is the same one who told him Rhodes wouldn't be hired as DC last year.

    ReplyDelete
  169. Ouch...it's getting tense in here.

    ReplyDelete
  170. it's cool..we're just messing wround

    ReplyDelete
  171. BTW, although I refuse to pay for aundercover, scout, etc, I'd be more than willing to send JGT a donation just cause he doesn't make me pay.
JGT, give us your paypal name!

    ReplyDelete
  174. PFrank, what do you here about Nix. Aren't you in Miami?

    ReplyDelete
  175. Jay G, makin' it rain!

    ReplyDelete
  176. Ah well, the unproductiveness continues indefinitely. It's a good thing we're slow at work.

    ReplyDelete
  177. Anonymous7:02 PM

Glad to see that GKG is now mainstream. I was hoping know one would find out.

Ok, back to work for my presentation since we seem to be in a holding pattern of nothingness.

    ReplyDelete
  178. Word down here is Nix is 50/50 returning to Miami, irregardless of what happens with Auburn. The only talk I've heard about an Auburn connection have been reporters quoting the B'Ham news.

    ReplyDelete
  179. I'm still waiting on that "pine box" moment to occur. When it does, we'll have our guy.

    ReplyDelete
  180. I hate coaching searches.

    ReplyDelete
  181. I really hate this coaching search. it's making me dumber

    ReplyDelete
  182. I think we should rally in Auburn tomorrow and protest coaching searches.

    ReplyDelete
  183. Drove by there this afternoon and everyone was just standing around. I guess someone forgot to bring the grain alcohol and the road flares?

    ReplyDelete
  184. thanks for what you said phred. let's try to store some auburn back to HABOTN

    ReplyDelete
  185. JD, what do you propose we discuss?

    ReplyDelete
  186. how about more coaching rumors?

    ReplyDelete
