- Derek Dooley, Louisiana Technical Institute head coach

- Patrick Nix, U. Miami offensive coordinator (possibly by phone)
- Rodney Garner, U. Georgia assistant/recruiting coordinator

I sent the wrong time for Chizik link to two ISU football blogs. Funny, the comments there are hopeful that AU will hire him and take the AD too!

Mayb ISU will give us his buyout and we can use it to payoff the other coaches and clean the payroll up inthe athletic dept.
I told my wife about this guy and she said 'we fired a guy for going 5-7 and we are going to hire a guy that is 5-19 in two years? This guy stinks"
She has a keen eye for the obvious.
If they go this route with this guys record...we should all know that it was things other than "X's and O's" that got Tubs fired.

maybe Auburn can make on of those ridiculous guarantees proming fans that if they renew their tickets, and the team is under .500 at any point before the Georgia game, the school will offer a full refund.
Guys.....Denny made a good point in his post.
Unless there are some deep undercover plans for a great coach in the works, this hiring is not going to be what AU fans should expect. If that's the case, let's don't exacerbate the problem and whine and complain loudly. We have done enough of that this year.
For the sake of Auburn Football...I hope the PTB make us all eat crow!!!
Article on AL.com said that they spoke to Gill's lawyer and he said AU has not let them know if he was still in the running or not. But dooley and patterson apparently have withdrawn their names for consideration. Or so the story goes.
is Jay G the only sports news person in America not reporting completely randon, unsubstantiated breaking news on the Auburn coaching search?
The interesting thing is that there will be alot of media folks (print and TV) that have egg all over their faces after this is over..
Jay G. Tate will not be one of those......
He is coming out of this smelling like a rose because he knows that sometimes silence is golden. Speculation, which is what is being done by a lot of these folks is a recipe for embarrassment.

Chizik = four putt for double bogey from 8 feet.
Chizik seems like the mother of all smoke screens -- perhaps for internal purposes to get someone in gear (Gogue?)

Whatever happened to all those high brow news types who used to poopoo bloggers and internet message board posters for passing along unsubstantiated news reports. They have all, with the exception of Jay G, gone over to the dark side so to speak. They are worse than who they critisize because they operate under a guise of respectability and responsibility.
I know he is friendly with Jay and the other beat writers, but PMarsh has been an embarrassment during all of this.
Question..is finishing last in the Big 12 a greater task than first in the MAC????
How is Boom better than Chizik? Don't see it. Boom, other than his ability to get caught cussing on national TV, has no bona fides, no credentials, nothing to base any thing on that would suggest that Boom is better or worse than anyother coach out there. I have the distinct feeling that the adage of be careful for what you wish for, it may come true is what will happen should TPTB get Boom to be the coach at Auburn.
If Auburn is indeed on the B-list folks (No Petrino, Davis, etc), then they need to back the Brinks truck up to Johnson's or Kelly's front door.
Maybe Chizik's name is being leaked to make the other choice seem,,well, better. It is like they are saying they are going to hit us in the head with a crowbar, but then at the last minute, they kick us in the shins and we all feel like we came out ahead in the deal.

PMarsh had always been a voice of reason/resraint and reluctant to put out rumors. Is he getting pressure from Big Brother(ESPN) to bust out stories?
Here's a wierd thought....is AU conducting a coaching hire and running trial balloons through various runmor mills to get feedback? Sortof Clintonesque.
This is a paraphrase of comments wherein Tony Barnhart made a point that resonated with me: AU just fired their best chance to beat Saban at his game. AU needs to develop a completely different package. Gill or Johnson are the 2 best choices to do that.
If we really don't have a blueblood waiting in the wings, I like Gill even more after considering TBs comments.

Folks, just settle down. I have this all figured out. Since Muschamp fell through, they went after the closest thing. Look at it like this. The only difference between Chizik and Muschamp are that Chizik left Texas to take a head coaching position. Both had short coaching stints at Auburn that were very successful. Both left Auburn for Texas. Chizik is Muschamps twin, except Chizik has more head coaching experience. It all makes perfectly good sense now.
By the way, I say we roll Jacob's yard. Who's with me?
This kind of stoopidity doesn't come from a person that has been interviewing many potential choices. This kind of stoopidity comes from a hidden controlling egotisitcal force. JJ's a puppet..don't blame him.
