Auburn plays with alot of heart....No doubt about that.

  2. Are we watching Mark Gottfried's last stand?

  3. I may have missed it, any word yea/nay that we have a shot at getting Bryce Brown to visit? Or did he tell coaches no thanks when they went to see him last week?

  4. And is it this weekend that Oku was coming?

Who was it that said Vot Barber was overrated?

    15 pts and 18 boards?

    Hmmmm

    Jay G.. I hope so.

  6. FSJ, a basketball team is a direct relection of their coach, assist. coaches & how they're coached.

Gottfried is a players coach. He gets way too much talent to not be any better.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I said Barber doesn't have a position, which is true.

    Oku is next weekend.

I do rembeber when Barber came out of HS, he could have gone ANYWHERE & I think he's from KY right?

Jay, what type of person is he to interview?

  12. arizona's about to run off a pretty good b-ball coach (he's not "big name" enough for their program, or so say the ptb out here). alabama should consider him. name's pennell.

    ReplyDelete
  13. That was a big win for the Tigers and Lebo! Maybe we're turning a corner.....

    ReplyDelete
  14. Cory-
that would be nice, but I'm not going to hold my breath. Any team shooting under 60% at FT line hasn't turned any corners.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I think Auburn is one of the top two teams in the West right now...

    ReplyDelete
  16. Gottfried should change his name from Mark to Slyvester....I think he is only on live number 7.

    ReplyDelete
  17. WTH is going on with Kentucky?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Actually AZ let go a pretty good interim coach.

I forget his name but once was the HC at UTenn.

  21. guy's name was o'neill, i believe. only thing i didn't like about him is that he was unwilling to adapt to game situations--that's how stanford beat him three times in one year. sometimes, you've gotta try a zone defense...

  22. Did anyone see the Ivan Maisel video on ESPN.com?

He ranked the top 5 most prestigous programs in college football since 1936. It went like this.

    1. Oklahoma
    2. USC
    3. Ohio State
    4. Notre Dame
    5. Nebraska

    ReplyDelete
  23. He has Alabama ranked 6th, and Auburn is 21st. That's behind Washington, Arkansas, Texas A&M, and GA Tech. WTF?

    ReplyDelete
  24. some notables left off of that list: army, alabama (pains me to say it), meechigan. why 1936 as a cut off date? kind of skews the results.

    ReplyDelete
  25. washington and tamu is ridiculous. ga. tech would have to include pre 1936 records.

    ReplyDelete
  26. looks like bama's going down to kentucky.

    ReplyDelete
  27. He used a point system that awarded a program points for things like the national title, and took points away for things like probation.

I still don't see how Auburn is below some of those schools on his list.

Speaking of, WTH happened to the Tahhhhhd? They were in total control.

This team WANTS CMG gone and have mailed it in.

    ReplyDelete
  29. washington has had probation problems, as has tamu. on the whole i think 21 is probably a pretty good guess, but, imo, there are other schools that might be ahead of au--definitely not washington and tamu (and i'm a big tamu fan).

    ReplyDelete
  30. Don't care what Masiel's opinion is .... Its just that.

Auburn will field its team in 2009.

    Michigan #8?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I love it when Auburn smokes the hogs.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Anonymous4:33 PM

    Barkley,

I'm as big of an Alabama fan as anybody...
but any list that doesn't have Notre Dame ranked #1 or #2 all time is suspect, IMO.

    And I hate them.

I know that they haven't done anything in fifteen years....but......USC, OU, OSU, & Nebraska have all had down periods.

As far as Alabama's ranking...I'm ok with that..but to cut off at 1936 is silly.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yea, the cutoff should really have been 1935 because, well, I am not sure why. I just like that number better than 1936.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I was surprised Alabama wasn't in the top 5, but it didn't upset me. ;) After seeing some of the teams ahead of Auburn, I just quit looking at it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anonymous4:51 PM

On that ESPN Prestige Rankings, they only have Alabama accredited with 7 national titles. Why do all Alabama fans claim 12? That's quite a large discrepancy.

    ReplyDelete
  36. It sells shirts.

And when the argument comes up just say AU claims 2004 and they can have 12. Simple.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I assume the 1936 cutoff is because that was the first year of the AP Sportswriters' Poll.

As for the discrepancy between the 7 NCs Maisel credits them with, and the 12 they claim officially, four were prior to the advent of the poll system. The other was a pathetic joke, given to them 16 years retroactively by some guy named Deke.

It's about as legit as the 2004 People's National Championship.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Counting bogus national champs is pointless. Heck, I don't know who the national champ was this past season. There were numerous teams that had valid arguments.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Anonymous5:46 PM

    Freep,

I agree that 1941 is bogus. Of course the argument could be made that we were screwed in 1966 and in 1977. It's astonishing to think of how many more titles Bryant could have won.

However, Alabama has a legitimate claim to the four prior to 1941. Each team I believe was undefeated and played in the Rose Bowl. I could be wrong, but I dont' think I am.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I think in 1000 years when they're going back through tapes and looking at cultures, to define the Una'vuh'sity and they look to examine what RWOTAHD means it'll read:

ROWTAHD - . I could be wrong, but I dont' think I am.

    ReplyDelete
  41. With Tombstone on the History HD channel I ask this:

Better Movie - Tombstone or Wyatt Earp

Better Doc - Val or Meg Ryan's ex-hubbie?

    ReplyDelete
  42. I actually prefer Costner's Earp but like Tombstone as a flick.

Val rocked that part IMO with the Huckle-Bearer line among many others.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Duh! AUM is the Senators. Can you tell I live in Atlanta?

Hats off to Jeff Lebo. The man can teach defense! The guys were athletic and physical. It looked to me like Arkansas got tired and lost heart under the pressure.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Lebo acts as if he learned from a decent coach himself.

    Hmmmmmmm

    ReplyDelete
  51. BTW some bartenders are posting on boards about the recruits and players coming in. It's hilarious. Busy night in Auburn - bars were packed and the recruits were having fun.

    Arkansas is terrible.

That said, the holding of the Hogs to 2 down the stretch was fun to watch and Vot had a great day.

Hope the Greek and Italian pro teams were watching...

    By the way:
Tombstone though highly inaccurate is very entertaining. I think Kilmer got snubbed because he is a method actor with a reputation. The stuff Costner has thrown on a screen for 15 years amount to a crime and he should be punished.

Thanks for that info. It would be cool if we had our own little Hottie map like those maps ESPN uses for fan votes during college football games.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Jet,
What did you think of the basketball game today? I think Jeff Lebo gets a bum rap, but he also contributes to his problems, byt not going out aggresively to recruit bigtime palyers...

This guy can coach his ass off, but needs to realize we are not North Carolina and he has to get rid of his TT syndrome, of relaxing on his laurels.... got get some players sumbitch!

    ReplyDelete
  91. THT,
    whatssssup!
Can I pour you a shot of whiskey?

    ReplyDelete
  92. Jet,
Auburn lost at least 5 games they had a chance to win if they only hit their free throws....60% would have got them several wins!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Mobilz- thanks, but seeing how's we 700 miles apart, can you do me a favor and down it, too?

    ReplyDelete
  94. I've gotten slapped around for this, but I maintain if you parachuted him into several top programs ... he'd be battery acid because he can coach the game.

At Auburn, you have to do it differently, and that's not him. At Vandy, he'd be incredible.

He needs a program that has a history ... that has some built in advantages. North Carolina, Indiana, those types. He's not a guy who takes a program off the deck ... he's a guy who take a good program and make it better.

    ReplyDelete
  95. THT,
Wayyyyyyy ahead of you... i guess i need to pour a lil out for my hommies (HOTTIES) who are here with me? NOT!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  96. They're all gonna die!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Jet,
I totally agree.... but the sumbitch can coach and get the most out of what he has....there is no way any coach could have inherited what he did at Auburn and held it together as best as he has...
I will say this if he can keep the guys he has recruited and signed this class he has coming in will definitely make a difference, they are very good guys, with size!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  98. I hope so ... but he's got to turn the corner, or he won't get the chance.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Jet,
I believe they will finish 8-8 in the league....maybe make the NIT then next year will be his make or break year.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I think 8-8 may be a little optimistic ... i'm thinking 6-10, 7-9. I think he gets another year unless we tank out. But he's on the clock next year.

JAY G TATE - as indicated by the Leo Carson quote you provided last week, kickers don't get no respect. What's the scoop on Brian Egan of Prattville. He's only FIRST TEAM Parade All-American. Scout only lists 5 kickers. Although two are from Alabama, neither is Egan. You have to search by name to find him on Scout, and there's hardly anything about him.
Let's get him to Auburn! He can boom KO's and has great range/accuracy on FGs.
