Petey Smith to the Tide

TUESDAY NIGHT
Post No. 1,007

Hey everyone. Quick update during the basketball game to say LB Petey Smith of Seffner, Fla., (and brother of current Auburn tailback Eric Smith) has committed to Alabama.

We know this because Rivals.com says so.

Petey Smith is the prospect who famously lashed out at Auburn upon learning that James Willis had left for Alabama. Not sure why he was so dissatisfied with the Tigers. Maybe we'll get that story in a few years when Nick Saban allows him to speak with reporters.

  1. I, for 1, don't care.

  2. tell me AU is not really losing to TPA?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Just curious what Eric's state of mind is.

    ReplyDelete
  4. PArt of me kinda wants them to lose to TPA... maybe an embarrassing loss like that would finally trigger some smart people to put an end to this Lebo debacle...

    ReplyDelete
  5. All of me wants them to kick TPA across the Rio Grande

    ReplyDelete
  6. Jay GT- by media timeout, do you mean you have to run to those lovely BEMC bathrooms? Maybe you went and got the beer after all.

    ReplyDelete

    screw petey

    ReplyDelete
  8. There are built-in timeouts every four minutes. Those are "media timeouts" in beat hack parlance.

War Eagle!......Wanting the team to lose so the coach will get fired....nice! Thats the spirit!

I guess that way you can get many posts logged while speculating who the new coach will be. Great entertainment.

Denny and I refer you to Teddy R's comments.

I don't know much about BBall, so have no valid comment as to the coaches abilities. I do however, recognize selfishness.

  10. That family will be a good side story for reporters at the next Iron Bowl. Side by side with the different jerseys and mom and dad in the split and sewed jersey. Maybe there should be some policy that if both teams are unhappy with their brother, they could flip flop teams.

    Come on down Petey...

    ReplyDelete
  12. PS to Bama does not upset me.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Anonymous8:41 PM

I'm guesing that the best opportunity to get some nuggets from Petey would occur right after signing day, while he is still down in Fla.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Auburn clinging to a three-point lead, 2:00 remaining.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Sounded like he was never liking AU anyway. Sometimes brothers are like that. If one goes Florida, the other goes FSU. Make their own way sort of thing. I think he had made his mind up for UAT, and took his first shot at the Tigers- presigning.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I ran into Petey Smith a while ago (I live about 10 minutes from Armwood) at one point he definitely did like Auburn I don't know if it was his brothers experience this last year or the new staff or what that turned him against Auburn, but he was all about it last year.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I only said part of me... The part of me that wants Lebo gone..

I don't really want AU to lose to TPA... but, this team will never get anywhere with Lebo as the coach.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Jay GT- I'm really enjoying your live bloggin', even if it isn't the 20-0 team that's playin

    ReplyDelete
  19. Looks like Auburn will win tonight, but not by much.

    ReplyDelete
  20. He's a great QBs coach, knows fertile recruiting grounds and appears to be a guy players love to play for.

Wait, WHAT? I just passed out for a minute. At AU?

    And then

solid attention to detail in the vertical passing game — as pertaining to crisp route running.

    Be still my beating heart

    ReplyDelete
  21. If Auburn manages to lose tonight, does Mal Moore call up Gottfried and fire him again?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Kathy
Thanks for the article. Those cut and pastes were from the article. Just revolutionary stuff compared to what we've been used to.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Petey is slowwww and overweight...wont see the field for 3 years...doesnt upset me in the least

    ReplyDelete
  24. UTPA ... down three and one possession remaining.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Do any of you all get the impression that CTT was all about getting a 10 point lead and then shutting the offense down- and holding on? Even in 2004?

Chizik didn't have much chance to show it at ISU, but I wonder if he will be more apt to play by the new BCS rules of college football- which means beating teams convincingly. Not humiliating, but convincingly.

    ReplyDelete
  26. We will be pleasantly suprised on signin day...fo sho

    ReplyDelete
  27. WDEwg ...

Malzahn seems to understand it. At least the numbers say he does.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm probably putting the cart before the horse- -but I for one am excited to see what Malzahn can do with the O.

    ReplyDelete
  29. absolutely pathetic showing tonight...

    ReplyDelete
  30. WDEwg - yes, but in 04 the offense was so good by the time CTT could say shut it down they were up by 20 or 30

    ReplyDelete
  31. Auburn wins! Auburn wins!
    AU-BURN WINNNZZZZZ!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thanks Jay GT for your great coverage. All hail Fearless Leader!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Jet
Although Chiz getting it is important too. Borges was told many at time at half to get conservative and take the foot off the gas in 04 (and maybe if we had pushed the issue a little more, we would've had at least a shot at a nat'l title)

    ReplyDelete
  34. This year is going to be my first in person IB. I can hardly believe it. Unrelated to this topic-- just excited about it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anonymous8:58 PM

what a sad sad sad victory

    ReplyDelete
  36. Texas Pan American? Who the heck is that?

I am thrilled we won though. War Eagle to all the guys.

    ReplyDelete
  37. You should be ... special memories of sitting in the stands for Iron Bowls ... some wins, some losses.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Anonymous9:00 PM

I wonder if frency will ever be back to his top speed again, highly doubt it =(

    ReplyDelete
  39. I was a student during the desert years AND we played at Legion Field but the Iron Bowls are worth every single second of it. They are beyond words.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Interesting, although I don't consider that a huge loss. It really isn't even a surpise.

    ReplyDelete
  41. We got the classier of the two brothers IMO. Maybe this means that Tana Patrick is not gonna be a bammer after all? Hmmmm....

    ReplyDelete
  42. AU plane made a quick stop at Craig Field after leaving Monroe. Must have stopped to pick someone up.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anonymous9:11 PM

I just read Phillip Lutzenkerchin, is playing basketball right now for Lassiter, he said he is only playing because if he didnt his dad would make him get a job, i thought that was intresting a bit humorous.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I knew a few guys who played a second sport in high school so they wouldn't have to work.

    Can he shoot free throws?

    ReplyDelete
  45. When I was high school, the basketball coach got me a job so I couldn't play basketball.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Ugh, I thought we might manage somehow to lose that one. Made some free throws at pretty critical times, though. Better than before.

Overall, pretty unconvincing win. I didn't even see a soul rolling Toomers (though it is already rolled, still from Women's BB vs Tennessee?)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Petey Smith we never really wanted you unless you change your mind. Then you will be starter for 4 years if not you will never see field.

    ReplyDelete
  48. We had same coach JET.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Wow. Was B-E that empty the entire game? I know its Texas PanAm, but jeez.

I'm a Pennsylvania kid, so I've always rooted for Lebo here at AU. There seems to be little or no chemistry going on with players-coaches-fans-etc.

I'm primarily a lurker, but I like getting the AU scene updates here. Graduated in '91 and try to follow los tigres the best I can here up in Illinois. Thanks to everyone, 'specially Jay.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Anonymous9:28 PM

Tyrik is also a bballer, thats nerveracking for the coaches i bet...By the way it seems like Mario Fannin would be the best player host IMO he has that swagger that recruits want to see

    ReplyDelete
  51. STeve ... I agree ... no big surprise ... I try not to begrudge indecision.

Hope he's happy. Don't think this hurts us at all.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Is it me, but I thought PanAm went under after the Lockerbie bombing crash?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Jet- just got in form the STJ vs ACA game. STJ won but shot 9 for 24 at the line in the 1st half. I did not get the total at the end but they were somewhere @ 16 for 35.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Although I don't begrudge the younger Smith for wanting to go to bama, I am wondering where he possibly thinks he will fit in to the depth-chart there? He likes Willis so much perhaps he plans on carrying his clipboard around or something. Better that than picking splinters out of one's rear end....

    ReplyDelete
  55. Welcome to the world of commenting, phooey.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I don't think Fannin has an excess amount of swagger. He's actually a very humble dude who keeps to himself.

Also, he's the only player I see in a letter jacket consistently. He loves his school.

    ReplyDelete
  57. WTC ... that FT shooting is Auburnesque!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I just hope we appreciate and use Mario's abilities to their fullest extent.

    ReplyDelete
  59. JGT, it's that love for and pride in his school that makes Mario a perfect player host...

    ReplyDelete
  60. Petey Smith won't be coming to our lovely University huh. I think Curley Bill said it best in Tombstone- "Well....bye."

    ReplyDelete
  61. Jet that is what I was thinking. I couldn't tell you the number of front end of 1 & 1 they missed. Still scored 76 points in a highschool game.

    ReplyDelete
  62. what a friggin' suprise....not so much. hey eric, let's put it on your bro.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Anonymous9:58 PM

That's pretty cool about Wario and his magic Letter Jacket.

Who knew that Sesame Street would not work with Scrubs?

    ReplyDelete
  64. Jay you hearing anything about bama's OC leaving. May be internet rumor but seams to have some legs.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Anonymous10:03 PM

Mario's jacket is AUsome. It says Super Mario on the back where his last name should be. Got to love the kid.

    ReplyDelete
  66. tigerfan,

    Where did you see/hear that?

    ReplyDelete
  67. Internet Rumor youngpj. Seems coach who left bama is spreading it. Like I said may be just rumor.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I'm out. We have A Grateful Dead pack now available as dowloadable content on Rock Band.

    Talk with you tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Sweet grateful dead rockband...bout time they had some good music for that thing....O and wario def got that SWAG

    ReplyDelete
  70. I predict it will be at least noon before we hear from JGT tomorrow... he'll be up all night mastering Sugar Magnolia...

    ReplyDelete
  71. Did he ACTUALLY get a scholly offer?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Petey Smith would have just came to Fall Practice fat like his brother last year...

    ReplyDelete
  73. Will you jam to 'I know you rider'?

    If so, sign me up.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Anonymous10:37 PM

Petey Smith is one I never honestly cared about. I don't like his exaggerated height, his jolly person, or his sub par speed. If he were in shape, he would weigh about 210 to 215 and he doesn't have the speed to play at that weight.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Anonymous10:39 PM

Supposedly Petey never had a firm offer from Auburn. Or, at least, nobody could confirm that.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Anonymous10:49 PM

Every single day Mario fannin's status says something about how much "swag" he has, apparently they ahve a "swag team" Deron Furr used to be apart of it..Damn i can stalk ones facebook

    ReplyDelete
  77. Anonymous10:50 PM

i'm not saying by any means its a bad thing i love it, and he loves AU!! nothing wrong with Swagger, some people need a lot more swagger

    ReplyDelete
  78. Anonymous10:51 PM

I've always thought Mario gets up under it with the swag. Now I have no doubts.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Big brother will beat up on little brother....

    ReplyDelete
  80. Its in da bag.

Up under the swag - Mario

    ReplyDelete
  81. Anonymous11:03 PM

Mario and Cisco. Thong tho tho tho thong.

    ReplyDelete
  82. 13 wins and counting. just sayin'

    ReplyDelete
  83. Anonymous11:56 PM

Au bball record last year exactly?

    ReplyDelete
  84. How many SEC schools go to the big dance?

    ReplyDelete
  85. Good Morning, Hottites!

What a day yesterday was! First, we celebrated the commitment of Tyrik Rollison. Then we stunned the basketball world again by upsetting Texas.

    What? Texas What?

    Texas-Pan American?

Oh, well. Have a good day anyway. Hotties, go use your heat to melt the ice.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Good Morning all.

    Hoping for another good day.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Anonymous7:01 AM

Good morning, Hotties! It's Hump Day!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Mornin' gang, looks like it will be a slow day at the office. I've got a couple, three things here...First of all, why schedule this game in the middle of conference play? I thought that TPA might be a trap kind of game and it almost was. For a great Xs and Os type of coach that people claim Lebo is, I would expect better preperation and motivation for a glorified scrimmage.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Morning fellow Hotties. Looking forward to a good day.

"Let's do it to them before they do it to us." That's still one of my all-time favorite lines from anything; books, movies, tv it doesn't matter. That's a winner of a line to me and can be used in virtually any situation.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Anonymous7:23 AM

Nothing like a 7AM conference call with folks from India..

    Morning Hotties!

    ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  91. FSJ, gotta love India. I hate staying late/ getting in early and having IT issues because that's a one way ticket to a 30 min checklist in a barely understandable English.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I bet Jayg is dreaming about jerry garcia from all the rock band dead last night..."heads all empty and I dont care"...Sugar Mags.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Riding that train, high on cocaine.

Pretty fitting for the Hotties who claim HABOTN is like a coke habit.

    ReplyDelete
  94. We're going to hold a campfire this afternoon to celebrate pageview No. 1,000,000 in recorded HABOTN history.

    I'm thinking 1 cst.

I'll make a firm commitment soon.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Better make that 2 p.m.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Wow, it is dead in here today. Someone say something.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Hold it no later than 2pm CST :). That works perfectly into my schedule.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Morning HOTTIES,
    Mobile's in da house!!!

    ReplyDelete
  99. Morning Hot Ones! Good News!!! Rollison's coach is reporting that although he has some work to do, he should qualify 'fairly comfortably'!

    ReplyDelete
  100. Anonymous8:56 AM

Hi, Eddie. I guess everyone is actually working today. I check in between patients.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Anonymous8:56 AM

    Good morning, Mobile!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Anonymous8:58 AM

That is good news, AUBigCat. Now, if we could just get a couple of good WR's...

    ReplyDelete
  103. I am shocked (and somewhat disappointed) that JGT is up so early.

I figured with the new Dead Band stuff you'd be up all night with it and not surface until noonish today. I know that would have been the case for me.
And to clarify, I'm not disappointed that you're up and hitting the HABOTN... Just that I assume that means you didn't lay out all night jamming with Jerry Garcia.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Luv, I think when all is said and done we'll have a couple of decent prospects. And don't discount Trooper and Malzahn's ability to coach up the folks already in the hopper.

    ReplyDelete
  105. JAY...any new on Emory Blake..heard he has commited

    ReplyDelete
  106. That would be awesome if Rollison could pull his test scores up.

Campfire midday, huh? Perhaps I will join in for a minute or two to be a part of the occasion. But that's smack dab in the middle of the work day.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Nooj dont play with my emotions. Did someone report that we have Blake???

    ReplyDelete
  108. Anonymous9:01 AM

SeanZ, oh I'm not discounting Trooper and Luper at all! I KNOW they will make improvements in the WR area!!

    ReplyDelete
  109. Nooj,
Where did you hear that Blake committed? And who did he commit to?
    I'd love to get Blake!

    ReplyDelete
  110. Anonymous9:07 AM

BigCat I hope you are right, but I went checking this morning and foiund out that Rollison made that 13 on the ACT in April 2008 - not his sophomore year but his junior. I have heard (unconfirmed) that he made a 15 by December (he could only have had one more attempt by then given the way they give the test).

He can only have one more try at that given the way the ACT is administered - that will be this April I think. He has to make 18 or better on that one to qualify. And if his GPA is low he may have to score higher than 18.

I wouldn't be any too sure of that one. He may make it; I'd say it's less than 50-50.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Anonymous9:07 AM

    C'mon Nooj, tell us

    ReplyDelete
  112. Anonymous9:09 AM

    Where did Nooj go?

    ReplyDelete
  113. Anonymous9:10 AM

Oh well, no Nooj is good Nooj maybe.

    ReplyDelete
  114. None of the recruiting sites have posted anything about Emory Blake.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Better get this thing rolling...I can't watch American Idol 3 x in a row

    ReplyDelete
  116. Wifey had some trouble singing along with Jerry last night, so we cut out early.

Here are the Rock Band songs:
    Hell In a Bucket
    Don't Ease Me In
    Cold Rain & Snow
    Doin' That Rag
    Fire On the Mountain
    Uncle John's Band

    ReplyDelete
  117. Anonymous9:19 AM

Guys, I don't trust nooj. I think he's an imposter.

    ReplyDelete
  118. There is mention of Gene Chizik visiting with Blake over on rivals but nothing about a commit.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Ahhh... That explains it.
That's a pretty good list of songs.

    ReplyDelete
  120. That visit included more than Chizik. The group that visited Blake last night included at least three coaches. Our friends at AuburnSports.com said it was a four-coach flotilla.

Blake seemed pretty intent on making a decision on Signing Day. I don't think that has changed.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Maybe he has and I just don't know but why hasn't he taken the SAT? To me it was much easier, I scored fairly higher on it. Plus if what your saying is true about only being able to take the ACT a couple time a year, you can take the SAT a whole lot more than that.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Jay, thank you for clearing the air, you're good people.

    ReplyDelete
  123. No St Stephen? No Sugar Magnolia? No Casey Jones? Those are all perfect for Rock Band. Of course, my knowledge only comes from the Greatest Hits album I own, so I am sure the hardcore fans are all like, "Those songs suck! You don't even know the songs that are righteous!"

Tim, the no nooj is good nooj line was pretty funny.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Chiz & Co are putting a full court press on these Tx boys! Lebo are you paying attention?

    ReplyDelete
  125. Anonymous9:38 AM

Wakerider you are right about the SAT - it's given more often. So maybe he should try that one.

It just looks like he is going to go in and take the ACT again in April. If he makes it, he's elgible, if not, no.

It's been my experience with students that they make the greatest improvement between the FIRST and SECOND tests. Lots of times they don't improve at all on the third take and some even go backwards. That's why I think him getting an 18 is a longshot. But I could be wrong. It HAS been done and a lot. But the odds-on pick would be he doesn't bust 17.

Don't mean to be a downer, but that might be the reason Texas wasn't on his list.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Anon and BigCat- I also take what a recruits' coach says with a grain of salt. They always tend to put a positive spin on grades and ability. Not that I blame them for that.

    ReplyDelete
  127. I love a good flotilla.

As my job will take me far away today, I wish to convey my congrats to JGT for 1,000,000.

It's been fun bantering with Monica, Eddie, Mobile, MillerTime Tar Heel.

It's been bizarre deciphering the stylistic prose of Michael.

It's been challenging yet fun to debate with Steve and Hoopie, with whom often disagree, but never in a disagreeable sense.

And it was downright hysterical have someone walk up to me at a basketball game and ask me if I were Jet. WTC, you busted me.

I've built 1,000,000 good HABOTN memories, and I imagine several of you have, too.

Congrats, Hotties, and thanks JGT for putting up with us all.

    1,000,000 more by Football Season!

    War Eagle.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I share the same sentiment Jet, just not nearly as poetic.
