Recruiting roundup

Hey everyone. This is the 988th post in HABOTN history. We're rapidly approaching 1,000 and I'll welcome any ideas about how to mark this historic milestone.

This little endeavor would be nothing without you. So thanks for that.

On to the business at hand:

RECRUITING IS HOT
  • Auburn is busy making a lot of follow-up calls on last week's visitors. Coaches made trips to see WR Emory Blake and DE Nosa Eguae on Tuesday. Eguae is expecting to make a decision after visiting Texas Tech this weekend. Blake probably will wait until February before announcing anything.

  • Auburn still is assessing prospects and making offers. The latest one, according to our friends at AuburnSports.com, is linebacker Joel Kight of Lithonia, Ga. Kight is a high-energy player. At 5-foot-9, though, Kight is something of a niche player. Gene Chizik must like that niche because Kight earned an Auburn offer Tuesday night. He's scheduled to visit this weekend.

  • This will be another major recruiting weekend for Les Tigres. Chizik has 13 prospects scheduled to arrive on Friday afternoon. Another weekend visitor, junior-college defensive Myles Wade, will be doing the Thursday-Friday-Saturday thing.

Other major visitors this weekend include: Texas quarterback Tyrik Rollison, former Auburn commitment LaDarius Perkins (now with MSU), Atlanta linebacker DeDe Lattimore and Brewton defensive end Jamar Travis.

Travis soon will be a graduate of W.S. Neal High. He'll share that honor with at least one HOTTIE ...

  1. buy us all a beer on 1000

  2. I like the Monica reference, if I got that corretly.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Shut HABOTN down on 1,000- Everything goes black like the Soprano's ending.

    ReplyDelete
  4. How about we buy each other beer?

    I'll get you Beast.

    Whatcha gonna get me?

    ReplyDelete
  5. How about a "Best of the HABOTN Comments." Someone could scour through all the old posts and pick 15 or so of the most memorable quotes on various subjects. I nominate Monica to do the digging.

Or, for the 995th post, just make a blog entry for various commenters to throw in their favorite comments, and Mr. Jay G. Tate can pick from those.

It's like a sitcom highlight episode!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Jay, do you know if the coaches visited Cobi Hamilton and Tyrik Rollison yesterday as well?

    ReplyDelete
  7. One of Auburn's planes was in that general vicinity -- eastern Texas -- so it's reasonable to assume that's what was happening.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Wish you were on the Round Table today. My wife even listened to it the other day when you were on. She usually never listens to any of the sports shows.

Eddie - Don't mess with the Natty Boh. Boh knows football!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'd love to be on the air more often.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'd prefer Olympia if you're doing the budget beer thing.

    ReplyDelete
  12. A 5'9" linebacker? Ummm, well, okay.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Heineken and cracker jack. A great combo.

    ReplyDelete
  14. How about a $4 bottle of wine from Wal-Mart?

    ReplyDelete
  15. More of Doggystyle fan...you know the beer

    ReplyDelete
  16. Steve: I was thinking the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  17. How is Columbia, Steve? Sounds like it is pretty cold up that way. It was 20 here in Savannah this morn.I have flown into Columbia Metro a few times. Ran into some folks from USC up there getting off one of the jets, so naturally I yelled War Eagle at them. They all gave me a scowl so I hopped in the bird and flew back to GA.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Anonymous12:22 PM

Especially since I am in Baltimore.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Columbia has been ungodly cold. I am in hibernate mode and will not leave the apartment until the temperature is in the 50s.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Anonymous12:23 PM

    Hoegaarden is pretty tasty.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ummm, could would supersize that linebacker? I watched a Pat Dye team weeks ago and one of the things that really stood out was the size of the linebackers. Back then our linebackers could tackle a runningback with an evil stare. They were that big and ugly.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I see ILB Deontae Skinner
(Noxubee County HS) Macon, MS just popped up on Scout's visit list for AU this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Jay ... you cannot let it get to 1,000 ...

Start over with a new post count ... kind a like when the threads get over 200, you get all freaked.

I'd hate to see what happened if you had 1000 posts on HABOTN ... I don't think we could survive.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I am recalling a quote for Charley Wilson. "You can teach them to type. You can't teach them to grow tits". You can't coach height. Small and speedy wide receiviers and DBs can work, but linebackers need more size.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I will assume that 5-9 Kight is being considered for a Safety position and not a LB. I hear he can really lay the wood though.

    ReplyDelete
  26. No offense, Steve, but I think Dear Leader has blown your "teaching" theory out of the water.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Didn't we reach 1000 comments on a post a couple weeks ago? I know we got durn close if we didn't get there...

    ReplyDelete
  28. They said the same thing about Blackmon, that he could play safety if necessary, and that plan worked out really well.

I don't know all that much about Kight, but he either has safety instincts or not. I don't think they're learned.

    ReplyDelete
  29. It's 1,000 blog entries.

    Not 1,000 comments.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anonymous12:34 PM

BigCat - I did read that is why he is cosidering AU. He wants to play defense I believe.

    Kight

    ReplyDelete
  31. We shouldn't have offerred Kight. His name just bothers me. Every time I look at it I think typo. We need to recruit some polish players. Those are football names.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Interesting that you bring up Blackmon as a comparison.

We'll be going from High as a Kite to Kight.

OK, that's wrong. I'm sorry for hatin' on the Little Dime Bag of Hate.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Pass it over Jet.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Anonymous12:39 PM

If Kight plays D, he might be fast and can fly down the field. In addition he might be able to leap high for an INT.

    Just sayin'

    ReplyDelete
  35. Blackmon is listed as 6' and 220#, but he certainly didn't look like it. Is it definite that he is gone? I thought there was some question recently.

    ReplyDelete
  36. i hope this doesn't turn into one of those Y2K things. there is no reason for any hotties to panic. it will all...be....okay.

congrats JG. i say hold off till monday if you can so we can all tip up a cup at the same time. it would be fantastic if you could make it on the Roundtable at the same time to mark this momentous occasion.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sorry JGT.... I knew you were talking about 1000 blogs, i just misread Jet's comment above

    ReplyDelete
  38. Jay G., you should try to time the 1,000th post to coincide with Pat Summitt's 1,000th Win, then you two could celebrate together.

Any ideas from the HOTTIES on how Jay G. Tate and Pat Summit could celebrate their career milestones together?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Anonymous12:45 PM

why all the music on roundtable or is it off the air?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Anonymous12:46 PM

re: I'd love to be on the air more often.

You see the radio/media giant Clear Channel news this morning?Laid off 10% of their force. Wow.

    ReplyDelete
  41. JGT-
What do you make of Goldberg's report that Gulley hasn't committed to AU because Chiz is not currently extending an offer?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Jay, two questions. What is the status of Todd? Also, is Blackmon definitely gone?

    ReplyDelete
  43. Anonymous12:49 PM

I'll get you a PBR, Schlitz, or Ole' Mill. Gotta love Milwalkee beer.

Commemorate your 1000th post with a live event, broadcast over the internets.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Jay, one additional question, will Clinton Durst be on the squad next yr?

    ReplyDelete
  45. The opening quote from Phred about Franklin's link to the bball problems is great, but should we limit our inquiry to athletics only? The current global economic meltdown has Franklin's fingerprints ALL over it. Do we know what he's been doing since loading up his Hyundai??

    ReplyDelete
  46. Jay when you going to be on the Roundtable again???

    ReplyDelete
  47. AU1 thanks for the link. The tech fans are over there gloating of their last two wins against us. We ought go over there and break all their rulers.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Apparently Franklin has started a music career playing the bass.

    ReplyDelete
  49. One thing, Minister, the Hyundai plant in Gump Hull, southwest of Mont-Gump-Ree, has all but been shuttered since Franklin drove off.

    ReplyDelete
  50. As for the reason for Franklin's departure, I find this story plausible. The title of the story would also make for a good movie title.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Sounds like LB Kight is ours for the taking. Sounds like he wanted to go to AU all the time never got a call until Roof came on the staff.

Where are we going to put all these LB's Evans, Gaston, Ford, Lattimore,Freeman, Kight and maybe P. Smith ?

    ReplyDelete
  52. DoWhat?, currently I think we need to feed them well and call them offensive linemen.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I have no doubt the Kight has the potential to be the best 5'9" offensive linemen in the SEC.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Kight's first name wouldn't be Spencer, by chance?

    ReplyDelete
  55. For everyday drinking Mr. Jay G. Tate, I recommend the PBR longneck. Got hooked on them in Nashville when I went to watch the Vandy debacle. Good ice cold and ready to break over someone's head if need be.

For special occasions such as T1000, I'd go with something a little more umph to it like a Fat Tire. Too bad you can't buy it in Alabama. I just might have a small supply in my fridge for you Mr. Jay G. Tate. My wife rations them out out to me.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Zteve I have got the perfect article for you!!

    Why Punt?

This HS coach decided to never punt on 4th down and won a state title in 2008! His logic is undeniable.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Well, I need to get back to my positive thinking. If sucks were bucks, we would have the richest offense in the SEC. There is definitely a lot of potential for improvement. I just hope the defense stays sound.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Jet, please tell me that wasn't a sly banker reference and tell me that you're not a friend of his. Please...

    ReplyDelete
  59. Where are we on the Koonz watch anyway?

    ReplyDelete
  60. I have read that article before and actually wondered if we would have had a better record the second half of the season doing that. A solid defense increasing the number of plays the offense has to get a first down is intriguing.

    ReplyDelete
  61. J-Z ... I'm not that sly ... or am I? Nah.

I love bankers. They have the money. Is there a specific banker that gives you concern?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Zteve, that guy playing the bass is WAY to clean shaven to be the formerly employed at Auburn TF.

However, there is a possibility the bass player is also a self-proclaimed "dumbass."

    ReplyDelete
  63. Just had a bellyful of one in particular with a name that rhymes with Spencer Kight. I'll fill you in later.

    ReplyDelete
  64. i'm sorry but for such a monumental milestone such as the 1,000th post, why would we delegate the HOTTEST blog on the net to watered down cheap beer? BLASPHEMY!!!!! i'll be toasting an ice cold Sam Adams Winterfest when the day comes.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I forgot all about that Tony Franklin. He's a-radioactive.

    ReplyDelete
  66. The way ESPN describes Joel Kight he may have just enough coverage skills to be a monster across the middle at SS.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Emmett ...

Is the SS in your last post "strong safety" or "Savannah State?"

    Just wonderin'

    ReplyDelete
  68. Hey we had a 5-9 SS in this class before he decommitted. Conner out of MS.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I thought Monica went to T.R. Miller the arch nemesis of W.S. Neal?

    ReplyDelete
  70. j-z, I love the PBR quote.

    New thread up.
