Roof hired as Auburn's DC
1/6/09, EARLY AFTERNOON
**Reconfigured at 4 p.m.
Hey everyone. More news breaking at this hour. Minnesota has confirmed that defensive coordinator Ted Roof has been hired by Auburn coach Gene Chizik.
``Our defense improved a great deal under Coach Roof this past season," Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster told the St. Paul Pioneer Press. ``Good coaches are always going to be in demand and I wish Ted the best of luck in the future."
Roof was highly unsuccessful as a head coach at Duke from 2002-07 -- the Blue Devils won six games during that stretch -- and the Gophers' defense hasn't been that great. They finished in the bottom half of the Big Ten in rushing defense, passing defense, points allowed.
Still, their numbers were even worse in 2007.
TED ROOF CURRICULUM VITAE
Alabama, 1987-88 (grad. assistant)
West Georgia, 1989 (LBs)
Duke, 1990-1993 (LBs)
U. Mass, 1994-1996 (defensive coordinator)
Western Carolina, 1997 (defensive coordinator)
Georgia Tech, 1998-2001 (LBs/defensive coordinator)
Duke, 2002 (defensive coordinator)
Duke, 2003-2007 (HEAD COACH)
Minnesota, 2008 (defensive coordinator)
Playing career: Georgia Tech '86 (linebacker)

Malzahns offense looks like he is running first then pass second.
good job on the Aflac question
Has Tulsa gone under center other than the goal line TD?
Our offense this year was penalty first, punt later.
Jet — throw in a couple of turnovers and that's about it.
This is certainly different from the Franklin offense. There aren't nearly as many screens or short passes, lots of motion, lots of misdirection, and it is faster. The camera guys keep missing parts of plays.
No wonder Andre is in a bad mood. He has on an ugly suit.
Andre wants to vote Utah #1 cuz he's from a non-BCS conference himself. He's a homer and a hater. Off with his head.
This offense looks way too much like tony franklin's. I take it whatever Malzahn ran at arkansas that year was not his doing.
The wide receivers are just out running people, and I guarantee that won't happen with our receivers and SEC defenses.
They run the Shula, I mean the run up the middle, a lot too.
And this offense actually throws the ball down field, which we didn't see from Franklin.
anyone hear that?
THe coach on the QB scramble was screaming "GD!!!!!"
i did - he has to add $100 to the potty mouth jar
We have some 4.3 and 4.4 receivers, but the big guys are 4.5. Those speeds should outrun somebody.
the voices of screaming, tourtured humans? yeah, i've learned to tune it out, though.
Mon,
Damn that's an expensive Potty Mouth Jar!!!
It's RAINING LIKE A FREIGHT TRAIN OUTSIDE!
SO ITS HEADED DOWNTOWN TOWARDS THE STADIUM
Think Kodi will run the "wild war bald eagle"?
The Fighting Lettermans are struggling.
That's because he adapts to his personnel Ron. Good coaches do that.
I am guessing PPL runs in the 4.3-4.4 range i'd be shocked if anybody else does.
Tulsa's Top Wr is out due to a bum knee, so that has to make a little diff. in the play call
Mobile, "GD" is extra bad.
Ron,
you better go check some of the times of our new WR recruits.... I think 4 guys run a 4.4!
i would be broke with potty mouth jar.
Taking a Scrubs break!
Hey, guess what has two thumbs and doesn't give a crap? Bob Kelso, How ya doin'...
Yeah Kodi will run the Wildcat package.
Monie,
SaBear owes about $10,000 after the Arse Whooping Bowl.. er.. Sugar Bowl
Chris Todd is gonna thrive in this offense next year! That slow, nonathletic Tulsa QB already has about 50 yds rushing. Can you imagine what Todd can do with those read options?
I can't wait.
Lots of fans disguised as empty seats.
Anyone have any idea about an o-line coach. IMHO that is a very important coach.
Saban can afford it.
It's not like he said, "Boom #$%#$%#$*%!"
I dont think Todd will play more then a few snaps next year.....and watching Tulsa run to set up the pass makes me think....isn't that why Kodi did not go to Ark. out of HS....He did not like that style
In honor of Trooper and Luper teaming up with Gus, I hereby dub the special offense as the ...
"Wild Shaft"
Opened a new thread for GMAC Bowl chatter.
Anyone notice the spotty orange in the stands?
Is that suit light brown, dark brown and pinstripe brown?
coosa,
please don't threaten us with that communist propaganda concerning Chris Todd's Rise again!
NICE Aubie!
But, I have to admit, I'm quite disappointed in ABC. This is the first year Scrubs was on ABC, and they've messed up Scrubs majorly. This has ruined my day. Scrubs was my metaphorical light in the tunnel of life's stresses.
I need a lift. Malzahn's crew better drop 70.
(Shaft!)
You're damn right
Unless Todd's arm strength is significantly improved, I don't expect to see him next season. If he has decent arm strength, he could end up as the starter, although I am hoping Caudle gets a shot too.
I don't know about this new defensive coordinator. I keep wanting to call him Red Roof.
