No. 1 on the thread. No. 419 in your hearts.
Or No. 2.
This comment has been removed by the author.
OR maybe not.
Jay ...
so do you think he waits until the the coaches convention to finish off the staff, or that move too Tubervillian?
ok, repost from previous thread.... something for discussion sake...
What about Bob Sanders for the DC spot?
Coached at Florida with Spurrier in the 90's as the Asst DC coaching LB's and DE's (separate stints)... was LB coach for the Dolphins for several years and has been the DC of the Packers for the past 3 years.
Has college experience, in the SE (FL no less), DC experience, NFL experience...
I think Chizik has an OL coach in mind.
Never heard of "Colonel" Bob Sanders.
What's he doing now, D?
... let me just quote the late great Colonel Sanders, he said, "I'm too drunk to taste this chicken" ...
Here's a name for DL coach... John Blake (DL coach @ UNC)... NFL experience with Cowboys as DL coach in mid-90's, was HC @ Oklahoma after that for a couple years. He has SEC experience at MSU. One of the top 3 recruiters in the SE.
That's funny, I always heard he said, "This chicken tastes like...bourbon."
zhoopie, did you play under coach misseldine? (sp?) funny story for you, if you did.
Mon,
Sanders is currently doing nothing. He was just let go by the GB Packers as part of the purging of the defensive coaching staff...
D. ...
I'd be all over that ... let him be the DC ... with close superChizion.
I am sure the Chiz has his list of coaches when he interview for HC job. Some new names might get added to the list by guys such as Malzahn, but coaches wanting to be head coaches keep a list.
Wonder in Dunn would take a "leave of absence" from his trucking company job to coach on the Plains
I would think that Garner would jump at the chance to be the DC, especially with bucks to go with it. I still want Garner dang it.
Scott...when were you at Prattville? Was the still missing Grady Motley from Le Fleur around back then?
nall, sorry. long day and very tired
"I'm too drunk to taste this chicken"
That line is never not funny.
Folks, have a great night. The Super Trooper watch has drained me and I have obviously become loopy, quoting Ricky Bobby. Please feel free to go back to talking football.
By the way, thanks for all the entertainment over the last couple of months. I have gone from a lurker to a participant over that time and I have thoroughly enjoyed myself and all of you. Hopefully one day I will actually contribute something of value to the site.
Night all!
There are some people that make me glad to be an Auburn fan. There is one particular Bama fan that illustrates it best. He demonstrates a unique counting ability. It caps the season of the redneck.
Fading fast, and a 5 a.m. date at the gym ... see you kids.
Goodnight Aubie....I was going to agree with you...I just can't get into football tonight...holidays are over and back to work and there should be no bowl games when you have to go back to work!
On that note....a goodnight to all and War Bald Eagle!
Uh oh. Could be another last minute Texas fold-em coming up.
Its a shame this game can't end in a tie so that neither team could leave happy.
Dang knology just went out here in the gump! Cable, phone and internet all out! This sucks.
Go for 2 OSU!!! Galactic FAIL!!!
Another TD thrown against a Muschamp-coached DB who never looked for the ball.
CWM is obviously an excellent defensive coach, buy his teams can't get the big stop at the end. Texas is going to need more points.
The Buckeyes are the Buffalo Bills of College Football. Good Day!
j-z, graduated in '79. only played in '78 (year i transferred in). p'ville was in the throes of moving up to 4a (now 6a) ball. went 1-10. qb and i tied for highest act score in the state, i believe, however.
McCoy is having an off night. I think his gf is distracting him. She's sure distracting me.
shesaid has the truth stick, i believe.
Maybe I do have the truth stick. Who knows? All I do know is that I want tOSU to lose lose lose again.
jetzilla: "history shows again and again how nature points out the folly of men."
Am I about to have to eat my words? Please baby Jesus no!
sweet sufferin' jesus!
I happened to check back in before shutting down .. and I'm glad I did.
"Oh no, they say he's got to go go Godzilla!"
BOOM!!!!! there's a leak in the Texas D
astatguy looks to be right. Texas fold-em in the works.
Scott,
Grady Motley was the ultimate HS qb specimen. It was the year that Dubose got promoted to HC. I was in jr high at the time. Grady's family had just moved into town from LeFluer. Grady was running his mouth in a team meeting after practice. Dubose got p o'd. Neither Grady or his family were ever heard from again. They just disappeared. The say his body is buried out in the bamboo behind the field house at the HS.
BTW...just noticed Mrs. Malzahn is hot.
Shesaid,
What is happening? I have no way to keep up w/ the game.
What is it about CWM defenses? Another late fold.
Boo....the sadness is too much to take.
OSU TD.
tOSU scored to go up 21-17 w/ 2:05 left.
OSU has worn down the Texas D and is running the ball.
OSU 21 Texas 17
Score? Time left? I need play by play people.
RUN IT BACK SHIPLEY!!
It's all on McCoy now. This is going to be fun.
UT has ball on own 21 with 2:00 left.
1:58 Texas on 21 1st down
Pass to the 27 2nd down
1:52 OSU allowing a short middle passes and Texas teking them 1st down
Thanks,
Sorry I'm having to read/post from my blackberry and it's just not quite as easy to keep up.
So, TX ball with 2 minutes on the clock and they need a TD? That right?
Holy Shnikes!
2nd & 10, 1:15
Tried to go deeper - incomplete
1:07 and not even close yet.
Yep, they have to score a TD. 1:07 left
not looking good for the Longhorns
Another Muschamp collapse. Aren't we all glad JJ was too smart to bring him in as our HC?
Am I starting to sound like a bammer?
1st down TX, 1:03, across midfield
Texas is down 4 - 1 minute left at 50
Ball at 42, :51
Collins is my new fave.
Incomplete pass, :47, 3rd & 3
4th & 3 on 43, :43
4th down 3. Game on the line.
GAG!!
Measurement, very close
Complete, but looks short. OSU doesn't like the spot though.
Gonna come down to a measurement.
38 sec, 1st down Texas on the 40
Holy COW! That spot was beyond generous!
first down
OSU challenging spot
VERY generous spot - being challenged by OSU
Bad Spot, but they won't change it
Spot looks good, so I don't think they will overturn it.
Replay looks like a good spot to me.
Ruling confirmed.
WOWILOVECOLLEGEFOOTBALL!!!!
Texas has 2 TOs remaining.
1st down, 27, :33
TD Texas
Someone needs to work on Tackle Drills
WOOOOOO!!!OOOO!!OOOOOOOOO!!!!!
You guys are ausome!
How bad would it suck to have the door closed on your potential game winning drive by a challenged spot getting overturned? Wow. What was a boring game seems to be having an exciting finish. Too bad I can't see it. ()@#*@#
HAHAHAHA OHIO STATE!
AUSOME!
Celebration penalty, 16 sec, extra point coming
Texas 24 OSU 21
Two WORDS: Buffalo. Bills.
Not over yet. OSU has 2 TO. Field goal would tie.
OSU bunched the line. Texas receiver split the lb's and no safety to beat. TD
It has been an exciting 2nd half.
Kathy, please don't kill my dreams right now with your sane thinking.
McCoy's gf is still looking very hot.
- that's important
OSU ball at the 42, 11 sec
That was a Horrid D-Play Call - They might as well have been in a GoalLine D
I was at the Auburn/Alabama game when Van Tiffin kicked the 52 yd field goal to dash my dreams!
QB sacked. 5 sec
Will take a miracle here for OSU.
Ballgame
WIsh they'd stop showing her...too old to look.
How did this happen? How do you CHOKE this many times?
When was the last time OSU won a bowl game?
At least OSU can say they didn't get blown out this year. I think Mac Brown summed up the Texas effort. They would have preferred to be somewhere else.
ok, my mom's an aggie but i just hate tressel's sweater vest. go horns! beat them yankees1
Another nail in the Big 10 box. Maybe we can pickup some of those grain fed OL boys from the Midwest.
She makes the post-game reporter look like a school marm.
I'm out! I bid you all adieu.
Calling it a night Hotties. That was some finish. Maybe we'll have more coaching news tomorrow!
Goodnight...enjoyed watching the game with all y'all!
i love seeing OSU lose. makes me happy. nite hotties!
I for one am glad Fox is losing the BCS to that other evil empire, ESPN. Their announcers stink, their replays stink and their whole production is minor league.
g'night john john.
nite all.
I will never understand why the production quality of sports on FOX is so bad...Its Borderline J.P. game bad
Kathy - I was there too. The last time I've ever set foot in Legion Field.
Don't see how TX could make any claim to a MNC after barely beating OSU.
I'm voting for the Utes.
Where do I vote?
A good evening to all.
Man, I feel bad for Ohio State. Am I the only one around here who doesn't like to see a man kicked while he is down? And also, why the Big 10 hate but no Big 12 hate? Remember, it was a crap Big 12 team that wedged us out of the NC in '04, not a Big 10 team. Everyone knows Big 10 sucks now, so it's not like anything was accomplished by Texas winning.
What a game though.
Ohio State committed stupicide with their defensive play calling on that last drive.
Fox doesn't have college football all year, then all of the sudden they have to scramble to get people to broadcast games at the end of the year who are not familiar with the product so their broadcasts always suck.
Nothing is worse than Pat Summerall doing the Cotton Bowl.
One concern I have is all the reports on the latest assistant hires say what ....."super recruiters"... these guys are. I want to know if they can coach worth a damn. While at FLA, Zook was known as one of the best at recruiting but couldn't coach a lick.... I don't want head down that path..... I put as much value on being to coach up mediocre talent as I do signing up top talent...
LT
Most successful coaching staffs these days are made up of two or three guys who can coach and the rest recruiters.
You have to have players to win, if you don't no amount of coaching will ever make up for lack of talent.

I wonder if early this morning when Jim Tressel was sitting in his hotel room, clicking a pen repeatedly, did he at some point take his sweater vest off, squirt it with lighter fluid and set it afire?
Michael, I'm with you. I don't understand the Big 10 hate. Although, I'm from PA and a Penn St. fan, so I'm partial to the Big 10. I always pull for the Big 10 in bowl games. I always pull for the SEC (unless it's bama, of course)in bowl games too.
Jet, that's a good question. Maybe it's time for him to lose the sweater vest during bowl games.
Tressel is lucky to have a national championship at all. He should be considered one of the biggest chokers of all time. If it wasn't for a terrible call on Pass Interference by a REF, he would have nothing of any national significance. I just can't believe they continue to get ranked high enough and take up spots in BCS games.
If OSU's defense hadn't fallen apart during Texas' last drive, OSU would have won. Until that drive, OSU's defense kept the game in check. I, for one, thought Texas would blow OSU away.
In bowl games, my rule is pick the team with "the point to prove."
That's why Ohio State was my pick last night ... and it almost worked.
It's why Utah and LSU were good choices too.
Alabama had lost Andre and was assuming it was a much better team. Georgia Tech had made being Georgia the be-all, end-all of their season.
It happened to us when we played Wisconsin.
Of course, it's not obvious in every game which team has the point to prove ... I'm inclined to think in the title game, it's Oklahoma.
or, Chokelahoma...
I still like Florida in this game. The Big 12 has been a huge disappointment this year. I actually believed they were the best conference in the nation. I am now inclined to believe that they are the 3rd best behind the Pac 10 and SEC.
Who do you like tonight? Tulsa or Ball State?
I like Ball State, but I will be hoping Tulsa wins.
I am anxious to watch the Tulsa O alot more closely tonight.
Morning HOTTIES!,
OK, let's recap coaches to date.....
Chizik & Malzahn, the "Z's"
Luper, Willis & Trooper, War Bald Eagle!!!!
Eddie, yes, me too. I saw Tulsa once this year and they were a little "off" that day.
I am very excited about the offensive coaching hires. I'm cautiously optimistic that good times are in store for AU. They can't get much worse, can they?
oops and Coach Boulware.....
I likey!!!!
I think TT and CL will bring some MUCH-needed fire to the sidelines.
It would be no surprise to me if Tulsa didn't play well tonight ... Gus knows he's leaving ... the players know he's leaving ... it's got to affect the mindset ... and the preparation.
Jet, that's usually the case, so why bother staying, esp. if it's not going to help the team win?
Jet / Luv- That's not always the case. Petrino did a great job for us against Penn State after he had taken the Head Coaching job at Louisville.
I would be very disappointed if Tulsa didn't play well tonight. It would reflect very negatively on Malzahn's coaching ability.
As for the Big 12, with Ole Miss spanking Texas Tech and Texas having a tough time with Ohio State, it appears that the Big 12 elite offenses are all they have been made out to be. Good defenses seem to make them look less than outstanding.
I don't think one game, especially a bowl game over a month after the season ends reflects badly on a coaches ability...except maybe a coaches ability to motivate the players with all the down time.
WarEagle, prime example being Saban
One of the best things about Tuberville was his ability to get the team up for big games. If Malzahn can't do that, I have concerns.
Steve, I agree. The bowl games glaringly exposed the fact that the Big 12 is short on defense.
Yeah...like when we played UGA the last 3 years. Awesome job getting them pumped for those games.
I also have concerns over the 7 turnovers that Tulsa had against ECU in the conference championship. Amazingly enough, they still kept the game close. I think they lost by a field goal. I won't be disappointed if Tulsa doesn't win. Ball State is a good team and should have beaten Buffalo. Their own mistakes cost them. But if the Tulsa offense looks confused, I will be very concerned.
j-z, I don't know about the last three years, but the coaches did great getting us ready for Georgia this year.
Zteve, you mean like Tubberville did against Wisconsin, or like he did against Nebraska. We looked incredibly flat in both of those games and got stomped by Wisconsin and barely scraped by a Nebraska team we should have walked all over.
Besides its a bit different getting a bunch of young guys excited to play when they all know your bailing on them. After last years Clemson game, I won't be too excited if his offense looks explosive, but I also won't be too upset if it looks like a dud.
Morning hotties! Anybody as sore as I am today from too much cardio?
Good morning Hotties!
WAR EAGLE!!!
That Wisconsin game was disappointing, but I wouldn't consider it a big game.
Your right it wasn't a big game, and either is the GMAC bowl.
I agree with what your saying, I'm hoping the new coaching staff can have the same great record Tommy had against Top 10 foes prior to this year. I just don't think this game is any way indicative of whether or not he (and especially not the whole coaching staff) can coach up teams for big games.
By getting a team up for a game, I don't necessarily mean winning the game. Sometimes the other team will just be better. I just don't like seeing games where we don't look prepared, like early in the season this year. The issues weren't with the QB. They were with penalties and fumbles, which are signs of poor coaching. Sometimes the other team will be better, but it doesn't mean Auburn is poorly coached. Tons of penalties does. I think we had around 14 penalties against MSU. We won, but that was one crappy coaching performance.
Vandy is a great example of a well coached team. They probably have the least amount of talent in the SEC, but they won a lot of games by not making bonehead mistakes.
At any rate...Who will we hire today? Any speculation this morning?
I really want to see us get an offensive line coach as quickly as possible. In terms of recruiting, that appears to be where we need the most work done. We need someone soon. I have seen Wickline from OSU mentioned here, but I doubt he is the guy. If he was being considered, I would think he would have came to interview when Troop did.
Did someone (Aubie??) say, in the previous thread, that they bought a CD at the Auburn mall in 1986? I'm going to have to go ahead and say that didn't happen.
Jim Tressel: The losingest coach in BCS history.
Cory- I'm not sore from cardio, but switching from working out in the afternoon at around 5pm to now 4:30am is a big change I am struggling with. I'm avoiding the all the gym newbies. The place was packed yesterday afternoon when I drove by.
Zteve ... I'll disagree on whether this game will reflect positively or negatively on Malzahn's ability.
Bowl games are one step above exhibitions in my mind ... some times they are extremely important ... other times they're just a reward trip.
now, your general dissertation on coaching (penalties, fumbles, etc.) we agree 100 percent.
Cory ... i did a light round of lifting and an ab work ... my tummy is still burning.
I would argue that the DC will be a more important hire than the OL hire at this point in recruiting wars.
Anybody want to throw some new names out there?
John Blake for DC!
Hilarious comment about Auburn's assistant coaching hires:
"Boy, is Charles Barkley going to be surprised, once he sobers up."
- From Kevin Scarbinsky in the Bham News. http://blog.al.com/kevin-scarbinsky/2009/01/gene_chiziks_good_hires_dont_s.html
Blake's resume ...
1987-1988 Tulsa TE/WRs
1989 Oklahoma DL
1990-1992 Oklahoma LBs
1993-1995 Dallas Cowboys DL
1996-1998 Oklahoma head coach
2003 Miss. State DL
2004-2006 Nebraska DL
2007-present North Carolina DL
He recruited 13 of the 22 starters on Stoops' 2000 national championship team.
Apparently spent five years from 1998-03 as a member of Delta Force. This tidbit, however, has not been verified.
I will be there tonight and try to get a feel for CGM and how it looks from the stands. I am not a huge fan of the meercat offense but I do like the idea of running a defense ragged. Kind of like what UT did to OSU last night.
G'morning Hotties!
Thanks to Kathy and shesaid for the play-by-play of last nights game.
So, what's the new rumor to chase today? We've tracked Trooper for 2 or 3 days, now that he's officially in, what's next? OL, DC?
I'm keeping an eye on Bob Sanders and John Blake as defensive coaches.
Bob Sanders - DC/DE's
John Blake - DL/Recruiting Coord.
Jon Hoke - DB's
What do you guys think?
Off topic...has anyone heard anything further about Chaz Ramsey?
Chaz has a "z" in his name, so I'm sure that means he'll be back.
Getting Ramsey back would be great. I wonder if getting Jermaine Johnson back is a possibility.
I was not a big fan of the meerkat or prairie dog offensive look either but that's about all you see in HS football anymore. If the kids are coming to college already comfortable with it then go for it. I even saw that in Pop Warner leagues this year.
Have you seen the arm bands lately on all players? Coach signals in the play and each position checks the 14 page arm bands to find their responsibility...next they'll have their ipods on the field with a video preview of how the play is supposed to work.
I still would be willing to bet that Jeff Koonz ends up on the staff. That is a gut feeling.
I find the Scarbinsky article kind of troubling. He points out the number of black coaches that Chizik has hired. We apparently will have more black assistants than most schools in the SEC.
My response is whoopie. I don't care what color the coaches are. I don't care to judge a staff by their color. I don't even care to judge a staff by their resumes. We need to forget about the color issue and judge a staff by restuls. I find it insulting that a coach is referred to as a black coach, as if it makes a difference. We hire football coaches. I don't care if Chizik decides to hire an all female oriental staff as long as we win games.
BigMike- Our Offense could have used the ipod version this year.
Zteve- Finally something we can agree on regarding coaches.
I'd make a helluva football coach....just sayin. I'm a girl and I can throw a spiral and catch one handed with a beer in the other hand so I'm qualified.
Re the bowl games...
I thought both Bama and Texas would walk over their opponents and that they should have played each other for a good game.
How wrong can one person be? The Utes dismantled Bama. I don't care if they thought they should be in the BCS. They were in the Sugar Bowl and should have played accordingly. (That sounds like I wanted them to win. I did not. I just thought it was going to happen.)
OSU should have learned their lesson. They are not ready but then Texas didn't show us that much either.
oriental = not pc...
Morning Hotties! Are you ready for the second most important day of recruiting for your AU Tigers?
Win or lose, Malzahn needs to show a consistant offense that throws the ball vertical and has a solid running game.
I dont think hiring a DC will improve or hurt our recruiting at this point. All of the sexy hires have been made as far as recruits are concerned. I would think that the general consensus is that Chiz will have a solid D regardless of the DC.
Astatguy I doubt Barkley will be fazed by our hires once he sobers up. Black HC vs Black Assists = apples vs oranges.
Big Mike ...
we're in the same school of thought ... whether we like it or not ... football is evolving because of the skills and the styles kids are learning today.
It happens in business so I guess it ought to happen in football, too.
PF, it took me a couple of years to get Asian right.
Hmmm, Asian means an area of the world, where Oriental means a race, correct?
I am reading a lot about the Tulsa offense and it seems that their defense declined once they started using this offense. It is something we need to keep an eye on. Depth on defense may become a bigger priority.
It's my experience that Asian people prefer not to be called Oriental as it is antiquated.
ZteveFC, I think its the other way around. The Orient is the eastern part of the world (sometimes including the Middle East), so Oriental is a spatial designation. Asian is an ethnic designation, I think.
Jerraud Powers is going pro. That sucks big time. I believe it was one year too early for him.
I'm going to make my early prediction that Powers ends up like Ronney Daniels and undrafted.
Peter,
You sir are correct. Oriental is used to describe an item. Asian is the ethnic description.
Tulsa's offense could be hinder somewhat tonight by the weather. WE are expecting severe thunderstorms tonight about the time of kickoff.
He hasn't been right ever since that dog attack at JHS...
I'm surprised about Powers. Seems like an Agent may have told him he's better than he is.
Dont underestimate Powers. He is a pretty good CB and he played the best WRs that we faced extremely well. And that was with him giving up 8-9 inches sometimes.
