d miller, it was a bit odd to move a tight end to defensive end, guard to center, center to guard like it's no big whoop. there had to have been better alternatives than that. if not, that's a recruiting issue.

Everydayshouldbesaturday's comment on the Franklin hiring ... have to share ... too funny.

"Also finding new work of sorts: Tony Franklin, the textbook-writin’, Hugh-Nall fightin’, Tuberville-indictin’, pink-slip kitin’ offensive coordinator who, after his ignominious departure from Auburn, has now found employ at Middle Tennessee State. He credits his success in the interview to actually shaving, since the last time we all saw Franklin he looked like he’d just gotten through huffing Krylon through a filthy rag for three days straight and sleeping in the crawlspace of the Auburn football offices."

Looks like some dullard like Mr. United is writing for Rivals in Murpheesboro, TN these days.

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=ap-middletennessee-franklin&prov=ap&type=lgns

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP)—Middle Tennessee State University has hired former Auburn assistant Tony Franklin as its new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

Franklin spent 10 as Auburn’s offensive coordinator and was fired midway through last season when the Tigers’ sputtered in his spread offense.

Before going to Auburn, Franklin was offensive coordinator for two seasons at Troy, Middle Tennessee’s Sun Belt Conference rival.

Franklin guided prolific offenses in his stint at Troy.

10 YEARS MY A!

Welcome to HABOTN Prowler.

I have been watching videos of David Oku. The impression I get is that he is very quick and makes cuts a lot like Caddy. He also looks very powerful and moves the pile. It didn't look like he was ungodly fast, but certainly fast enough. To me, this guy would be idealll with Malzahn's system.

Blogger scott,will not,from tucson said...

Blogger Chris in Inverness said...

Tom Lugebill said Oku was "drastically undersized" on Dunaway and Brown in B'ham on teus.

He's listed at 5'10" 186 - is he samller than that or what? If no, that's not "drastically" anything.

6:17 PM
Blogger Miller said...

If Lugenbill said that on a radio show in bammerham.... I think that probably means he thinks Oku ends up in AU....

Oku certainly looks Cadillac-esque to me. They are very similar in size and speed...from what I've read they both run around a 4.5 forty.

6:24 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Check out some of Oku's youtube videos. The kid is a load, but his cuting ability just stands out. He has the suddenness that Malzahn has mentioned. It is exactly what Tate is missing. Tate is powerful and fast, but lacks the quickness this kid has. He gets up to speed much quicker.

6:25 PM
Blogger Prowler said...

I really hope we can land Oku. He could be a great weapon for our arsenal.

I know that he's not quite as big, but are there any similiarities between the old and new Brandon Jacobs?

What's up HABOTN? Joining the fun. Listened to the Roundtable the last few days and can't help but think that Tide fans generally sound less intelligent. Welcome, snow!

As for you observation...it isn't just all in your head.

6:35 PM
Blogger NoVaTiger said...

Oku would be a plus but he's not essential.

On the earlier depth discussion, I think 1 or 2 DL will be moved to OL in the spring so they have time to adjust. They won't wait for the new guys, they'll provide depth for the DL.

6:36 PM
Blogger NoVaTiger said...

Snow, both sides have idiots. Bamers just have more than their share.

6:42 PM

NoVa,
Who from the current group of DL could legitimately make the move from DL to OL? I just don't see any of them that can legitimately make that move... and certainly not be effective...
Derrick Lykes.... maybe?

6:44 PM

6:47 PM

I think we're all taking a break after what was a very fast-paced week.

I support that kind of behavior.

PPL: He's still on his way back. It'll be summer before he'll be able to assess his long-term outlook.

Doc, I found out why Auburn's class ranked lower on ESPN. They don't count the JUCO guys, so guys like Benton and Freeman didn't count.

Thanks Jay. I thought you had mentioned talking with PPL, but from this comment, it seems like it isn't definite he will be ready. Is that the case? I have no idea of the seriousness of his injury.

cool wildfires in the everglades right now

another 2 million of the money I and others give to Auburn athletics is going to buyouts is gonna piss me off.

I still can't find any obscure player jerseys in my closet, but I did locate a game worn Lindsey Scott UGA jersey in the soon to be ms frankenschmidt's area. Does wifey possess anything like that?

He'll be healed by summertime.

Some guys retain all of their acceleration after that surgery, some don't. It's way too early to tell with PPL.

ALSO: My Gannett-mandated furlough runs from 2/15-2/21. I'm going to post a generic thread each day at 9 a.m. (I can set these up ahead of time) and that's all the coverage we'll have.

I hate that it has to be this way, but it's not my call.

I will return on 2/22 and resume HABOTN life as we know it.

A break is well deserved for all ... and to all good night.

But did they have to say Auburn's class "imploded" after Tubs resigned? It's not as good as I would have liked, but it's better than it would have been if Tubs was still coach, IMO.

yeah we deserved a break nice work

Jay ... whatever you need to do if fair enough for the rest of us ... we'll muddle through.

Too bad it's not next week when I'm off. I can't imagine what I could get done during an off week with no regular HABOTN activity

Jay G, if you get a radio gig, you'll let us know, right? At least Facebook us or something....

Also, will you be covering opening dayof Auburn baseball? Its the 22nd, right?

AU baseball opens on Friday the 20th, I believe.

I will not be there.

Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Don't worry, Jay GT. I won't be there, either.

I remember the good ol' days when AU baseball would come to Chapel Hill and sweep a weekend series. Good times.

that must have been Spring 2003 when Sr/Jr/III were amongst a smattering of AU fans cheering on the Tigers.

Anybody know a good way to search for a conference in DC... that I don't know the name of or exact location?

My wife says she has a conference in DC (leaves tomorrow, be back Tuesday)... but she doesn't know what the conference is for or where it is...

10:08 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

D. Miller - that's not a lot to go on. Say we find 10 conferences. How would you know which one if you don't know where or what it's about?

I like this one:

Washington, DC conference on Knot Theory and its Ramifications

Paul Johnson on Dontae Aycock (via the AJC): "He’s a good kid,” Johnson said. “I wish him the best. I do not have any hard feelings for Auburn. They did what they had to do. It’s big-boy football.”

D Miller, she's trying to get YOU to tell her what conference she is attending?

10:32 PM
Blogger Jeremy Eubanks said...

Okay. Will you be there for Auburn to wrap up the series with Elon?

10:34 PM
Blogger Jeremy Eubanks said...

Mr. Miller. It sounds like the wife doesn't want to be found for a couple of days. I suggest inserting a gps chip in her suitcase.

10:35 PM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

I'm with Peter on this one.

Peter: As far as Sunday 2/22, I really don't know what I'll be doing. My life is one day at a time, brother.

10:38 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Dr. Habotn isn't attending a medical conference next week, so no need to worry about me. But the GPS chip may still be a good idea.

Exactly - PF, JGT, and I can only tell you, D Miller, things don't add up in this wifey story....
