Post No. 1,033
Hey everyone. It's National Signing Day. You know what that means? It's ON.
THE LATEST
(11:30) DE Terrance Coleman, WR LaVoyd James and DL Nick Fairley -- all of Williamson High fame -- have signed with Auburn. That bumps the Tigers' 2009 class to 28 players.
OTHER THINGS OF INTEREST
- (11:18 a.m.) DT Jamar Travis of W.S. Neal High in (East) Brewton has signed with Auburn.
- (10:40 a.m.) LB Harris Gaston of Bessemer Academy has signed with Auburn. He'll emerge as an outside guy with power.
- (10:25 a.m.) ATH Robert Cooper of Daphne High has signed with Auburn. He is expected to "gray shirt" this season and join the team in January.
- (10:10 a.m.) TB Dontae Aycock and DB Taikwon Paige have signed with the Tigers.
- (9:55 a.m.) DE/DT Nosa Eguae of suburban Ft. Worth, Texas, has signed. Read about him here: Truth sets Texas DE free - to sign with Auburn
- (9:30 a.m.) WR Anthony Gulley of Brantley High has signed.
- (9:25 a.m.) WR DeAngelo Benton of Bastrop, La. (also of Hargrave Military Academy) has signed with the Tigers. I consider that a completely crazy development. He's supposed to be a big-time wideout, but he hasn't played organized ball since November 2007. Either way, this is a significant NSD coup.
- (9:15 a.m.) WR Emory Blake of Austin, Texas, has signed with Auburn. That is a major development because Blake was the most important "bubble" prospect on the Tigers' list.
With Blake and now DeAngelo Benton signing on with Auburn today, it's clear that offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn and his offense has captured the imagination of offensive prospects. - Here is your up-to-the-minute list of signees:
- LB Eltoro Freeman (already enrolled)
- TB Onterio McCalebb (already enrolled)
- TE Philip Lutzenkirchen
- LB Donald "Dee" Ford
- DB Daren Bates
- OL Andre Harris
- WR Travante Stallworth
- QB Clint Moseley
- DB Reggie Taylor
- RB Brandon Jacobs
- DB Izauea Lanier
- LB Jonathan Evans
- QB Tyrik Rollison
- OL John Sullen
- DT Josh Jackson (of Gainesville, Ga. -- new to the scene)
- WR Emory Blake
- DB Demond Washington
- WR Anthony Gulley
- WR DeAngelo Benton
- DE/DT Nosa Eguae
- DB Taikwon Paige
- TB Dontae Aycock
- ATH Robert Cooper
- LB Harris Gaston
- DT Jamar Travis
- DE Terrance Coleman
- WR LaVoyd James
- DT Nick Fairley
- LB Eltoro Freeman (already enrolled)
yea!
ReplyDeleteDeAngelo Benton is in the house??? Whattt that is crazy!
ReplyDeleteHoly Cow...IM STILL IN SHOCK NICE WORK CHIZ!
ReplyDeleteomg my classmates are all soaked!! Benton and Blake! Really?
ReplyDeleteit's on like DONKEY KONG!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, Jay G is in the house to give us the latest and greatest HABOTN news!
ReplyDeleteHow about Aycock?
ReplyDeleteI am happy.
ReplyDeleteBOOM MF BOOM!!!
ReplyDeleteHay scottie b you can say that again!!
"It's on like Donkey Kong"
Did we ask Coach Bradshaw at Bastrop if it was ok to sign him?
ReplyDeleteLookin good thus far
ReplyDeleteThis is way better than I ever imagined.
ReplyDelete2 WR's over 6 feet tall?...I think I'm gonna cry.
ReplyDeleteThat most likely means Reuben Randle to LSU and not UAT, correct?
ReplyDeleteLOL Kristina
ReplyDeleteKristina,
ReplyDeleteDon't cry just yet i think we still got more surprises to come!!!
Funny, Sam Montgomery on ESPNU said he is trying to get Trent Richardson to go to the school is he going to, LSU!
ReplyDeleteMon,
ReplyDeleteGood am.... are you diggin the HABOTN Tee?
THT - trying to deliver one more OL....
ReplyDeleteKathy - Aycock to Auburn
ReplyDeleteMonica, you been working in the background?
ReplyDeleteYou're looking HAWT in your HABOTN t, Mobilezzzz.
ReplyDeleteThat is correct aubuie...RR to LSU. Which what a slap in the face to Bammer cause Patrick patterson is going to Ole MIss.
ReplyDeleteDeAngelo Benton. Wow.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking Ronney Daniels? Maybe?
Just saw Aycock on the wire. Thanks Monica. Going for another cup of coffee!
ReplyDeletetest
ReplyDeleteif he can go the distance with only one shoe on like RD did then i'm all for it. i'll never forget that '99 game at UGA. fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThe big time recruiters are already coming through. I needed some good news today.
ReplyDeleteBrandon Heavens to MSU.
ReplyDeleteGravy Train
ReplyDeleteNot surprised about Heavens.
ReplyDeleteJay- Is Chiz's PC at 2PM CST?
ReplyDeleteShould be interesting.
Kathy - I'll fess up. I woke up at 5:00 and went back to sleep at 6:30 and didn't wake again until 10:00! All Eastern time.
ReplyDeleteI know this is a repost of the ESPNU feed, but I've got some people on the outside looking in waiting for me to post it..
ReplyDeletehttp://www.justin.tv/rushvsn
Tommy says the biggest difference on a top notch team is defensive linemen. That's what makes the difference in the SEC.
ReplyDeleteMan, did ronnie daniels mess up leaving early or what?? I know he was old anyhow but another is really what he needed. Our class appears to be morphing into the shape of a fist.
ReplyDeleteGreat stuff, so far. Love seeing Blake!
ReplyDeleteDidn't a lot of you say it was going to be a disappointing day? It seems all the Hotties are pretty excited!
ReplyDeleteA bammer called into Jay Barker-Evans this morning and said he was a redneck friend of Tana Patrick. Said Tana was wearing red and white today and was bammer all the way. Then, Mr Mullet caller said that SaBear told Tana that (SaBear) got EVERY recruit he wanted. The only reason anybody went anywhere else is if SaBear didn't want him.
ReplyDeleteI hate those arrogant doo doo heads.
I got some funny looks in Chick-Fil-A with my HABOTN shirt and nothing else on ... but I was served quickly ... the quickest service ever.
ReplyDeletei am floored.
ReplyDeleteall of this is GOOD NEWS.
Been a great day so far, and could get better!!
ReplyDeleteLuV - I'm very pleasantly surprised, if not downright shocked. But, being the greedy little rat that I am...
ReplyDeleteI WANT MOORE!!!
Tana has to go to Bama. His girlfriend would lose her scholarship.
ReplyDeleteESPNU giving lots of love to LSU and USC.
One of my Bammer friends emailed me with this:
ReplyDelete"Good luck getting these guys to qualify."
The fact that they acknowledge this is big makes me all warm on this cold day. LOL!
Ronnie Daniels went from 1,000 yards and 10 TD's in 99 to 300 yards in 00.
ReplyDeleteThe rise of Rudi Johnson caused problems for Daniels and it was really strange that he left after a bad 2000 season.
Utah got most all the guys they went after, too from what i hear.
ReplyDeleteTHT - stay tuned!!! The Chiz and crew haven't finished delivering the mail!!
ReplyDeleteMan...what a morning!!!
ReplyDeletehehateme, I was going to add...and it's still early!
ReplyDeleteOf all the days for my daughter to leave her backpack at home. Had to run to the school...what did I miss??
ReplyDeleteMonica, you shouldn't have fessed up and burst the bubble that the male Hotties call Omnica!
ReplyDeletebenton and aycock, i like the combined mph of this class, A LOT.
ReplyDeleteLOL Sensi
ReplyDeletelmao @ "doo doo heads"
Now I know what to do to get fast service at Chik - thanks Jet
y'all are crackin me up!
Benton just lost a star. LINK
ReplyDeleteConspiracy Theory is in full effect.
hehateme - you've got a 50+ year old guy acting like a 3 year old at Christmas. If my dad was still around, I promise he'd be acting even sillier. WARRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Luv. Bad move on my part. grrrr
ReplyDeleteBut who cares...still a big get for Auburn imho
ReplyDeleteTo be fair, Sensi, I hadn't see Benton evaluated recently. The last one I saw was from early 2008.
ReplyDeleteDarren Myles to TN.
ReplyDeleteSensi: You're RIGHT. Benton was definately a five star. They just can't STAND it, can they
ReplyDeleteThey = the forces of darkness, tyrany, and incest.
Yeah, I was just firing up the black helicopter, Jay G.
ReplyDeleteEither way, this class is better than most expected.
One thing that I have noticed from looking at rivals is that we are getting far less 2 star commits than we have in previous years...for what that's worth.
ReplyDeleteBenton was supposedly working on Randle wanting to be teammates again.
ReplyDeleteDo I think it happens? Not a chance. But, I didn't think we had a chance with Benton either.
I wonder if Benton accidentally faxed his LOI to the wrong place?
Jay G, He was a five star when the word came down.
ReplyDeleteWhen I checked back, he dropped one. Maybe they got new film.
I read an article just yesterday where his coach at Bastrop was gloating about Benton resigning with LSU. At the time he said hands down Benton was the better wide receiver when compared to Randle. Wonder if he still feels the same!
ReplyDeleteI don't know if he was 5* back in the day, but I've only seen him as a 4* since he came on the radar for AU.
ReplyDelete7 four stars is good work imho
ReplyDeleteEguae is official.
ReplyDeleteTana Patrick to announce in a few minutes. Do we have a Hottie reporting live from Stevenson?
ReplyDeleteEguae signs!!!!
ReplyDeleteDoWhat, I read the same article!
ReplyDeleteTommy talking about LSU and TN. Hasn't said one word about Auburn. Thought he was suppose to Auburn representative.
Benton was a 5-star at one point?
ReplyDeleteSensi, Benton has been out of football for a year.
ReplyDeleteNosa Eguae is in. Great day continuing.
ReplyDeleteGreat, I've been waiting on Nosa!
ReplyDeleteWARRRRRRR EGUAE!!! I love getting great players who are great students. TOTALLY AUSOME!!!
ReplyDeleteDeAngelo Benton video from Hargrave:
ReplyDeletehttp://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&VideoID=16046376
I see that. Thanks for the updates, Jay G.
ReplyDeleteProps to Eddie for the morning emails.
Kathy...Tommy who?
ReplyDeleteFYI...Williamson HS... Fairley, Coleman and James have all signed with Auburn.
ReplyDeleteI think Tana Patrick announces at 2.00
ReplyDeleteJay G,
ReplyDeleteWhat do you think of the two OL committs so far?
No problem Sensi. Anytime.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Paige? Waiting on his LOI.
ReplyDeletehag - Just got your message - sorry, but obviously you're getting the news lol
ReplyDeleteI'm highly impressed already. What other surprises might the day bring?
ReplyDeleteInvChris - Rivals says 10 CST, I was just going on that.
ReplyDeleteI just spilled my Chick-Fil-A coffee on my ... self. ... AHHHHH ... but I don't care!!!!
ReplyDeletetalk about the rich getting richer
ReplyDeleteFlorida list
need food - back in a few
ReplyDeletePatrick to Bammer
ReplyDeleteI think Andre Harris is underrated and has a chance to be really good.
ReplyDeleteJohn Sullen is less impressive to me.
I wonder if xCTT is jealous of the new staff's success with these high profile prospects?
ReplyDeleteEguae will be a force soon!!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, this Jelani Jenkins wrote a speech.
ReplyDeleteWhy is Aycock back to the signed/UNcommitted list?
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jay G.
ReplyDeleteAnd he picked Florida.
ReplyDeleteI've seen Sullen play (I think you have too JG) and really think size is his best attribute right now. I think he will be a work in progress.
ReplyDeleteI just had a receivergasm.
ReplyDeleteAycock and Paige have signed.
ReplyDeleteCB Taikwon Paige and RB Dontae Aycock LOI's are in.
ReplyDeletePhred -- I concur.
ReplyDeleteSize doesn't work in the SEC. You gotta have more. We'll see what skills Sullen can add.
Scooped you, Eddie.
ReplyDeleteJeez ... no patience at all.
Rivals currently ranks LSU 1, UA-T 4, SC 10, AU 17
ReplyDeletejust some worthless info.
Good news Jay G and Eddie. I'm happy with Paige and Aycock!
ReplyDeleteFlorida's defense is going to be tough next year.
ReplyDeleteauburn #10 at scout.com...much better
ReplyDeleteAuburn will always be lower on Rivals. It is what it is.
ReplyDeleteCGC is making believers today....
ReplyDeletethere are lots of Jay's here
ReplyDeleteCGC proves it - they can't say "YES" if you don't ask!!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize scout had Demond Washington as a 5 star. That is pretty shocking. In general, scout seems to be more conservative with the stars.
ReplyDeleteDL, he's getting people back to church. The conversions & baptisms take place with W's in the fall, but this is a good start./
ReplyDeletegood morning, Steve. You still have bed head.
ReplyDeletewoooooooooo
ReplyDeletewow huge shout out from tom louginfloffinager or whatever his name is - lead recruiting guy from Scouts talking on The Herd
ReplyDeleteMon - re: lots of Jays
ReplyDeletethat's a good thing, right?
Tommy talking about Cotton. He still hasn't announced his decision.
ReplyDeleteTubs talking raymond cotton on ESPNU
ReplyDeleteTP to bammer
ReplyDeleteYea, I am moving kind of slow, but this class appears to be turning out much better than I hoped. My guess is we would end up ranked in the middle teens at best. I am pleasantly surprised. Scout having us in the top 10 and Rivals having us at 15 ain't bad at all. I am wondering about Travis, the DL guy.
ReplyDeleteJay G or anyone else,
ReplyDeleteany thoughts on us still getting Oku? still a good shot?
Didn't the Mobile guys sign?
ReplyDelete50% or so on Oku.
ReplyDeleteKathy scooping me Jay G. Tate style! :)
ReplyDeleteKathy: I don't think that has happened just yet.
ReplyDeleteI assume Cotton heads to Ole Miss. I would be shocked if he didn't. I never thought I would say this, but we don't need him.
ReplyDeleteJay G,
ReplyDeleteAny early word on which of these guys are sign and place? I know Rollison is a long shot to qualify, and Benton might be too. any others?
I wonder if Aycock and the existing depth turn Oku.
ReplyDeleteRobert Cooper has signed. He will grayshirt.
ReplyDeleteTyler Knight, when he signs, is a sign-and-place.
ReplyDeleteBenton already is 21 years old. If he's not qualified by now, it may be about time to give it up.
It's always good to have you, Tar.
ReplyDeleteJay G, I heard that Josh Jackson might grayshirt. Any news on that?
ReplyDeleteThat's my concern with Benton, lots of stars on the field, but apparently not in class :-(
ReplyDeleteCan we save the "won't qualify" talk for another day? I'm not yet tired of being giddy.
Anyone know when King from Memphis signs LOI?
ReplyDeleteI want to hear from LaVoyd James and Jamar Travis.
ReplyDeleteAll you Gumpsters- any word on when Brandon Moore will announce?
ReplyDeleteThanks
Kathy ... heard that, haven't confirmed it officially just yet.
ReplyDeleteSFC - me too, especially on Travis.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info Jay.
ReplyDeleteDumb question, but what is the atmosphere like in the athletic complex?
Is it more of a wait and see or are these guys still working the phones? I would imagine it's pretty hectic.
Jay G, are the coaches excited in Auburn?
ReplyDeleteTP to bammer
ReplyDeleteApparently the UAT fans are up in arms about Massie committing to Ole Miss. Within seconds on the ESPNU blog they're writing that Saban pulled the offer. You just gotta love the collective delusion and denial!!!
ReplyDeleteMassie top ranked prep school player in country (OL) toyed with UA-T cap before announcing for Ole Miss. hahahahaha
ReplyDeleteThat said, Ole Sis is beginning to look formidable.
ReplyDeleteLots of guys on the phones and moving around anxiously.
ReplyDeletePretty much business as usual ...
I think jhag made a great point about offensive linemen last night. We haven't seen a surprise offensive linemen commitment. I would love to see a surprise. Any chances out there?
ReplyDeleteGonzo- I think you've made your point (twice). I'll make mine-smoking causes cancer.
ReplyDeleteFunny THT!
ReplyDeleteTar,
ReplyDeletemake this point as well. Fannin still at AU.
Steve FC - Brandon Moore in Montgomery is 4* and very likely going to UA-T. Very very slim hope for AU there, but I can't think of any other snowballs right now.
ReplyDeleteGonzo,
ReplyDeleteNoted.
Hope Dre goes to Texas!
ReplyDeleteESPN now talking about Kirkpatrick.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how many of these kids are waiting to see what others do before making their decision.
ReplyDeleteThis recruiting talk should make Tommy uncomfortable. He sure didn't practice what they are preaching.
ReplyDeleteBrandon Moore and John Sullen are approximately the same in my mind. Size is their top draw.
ReplyDeleteHas KK signed anywhere yet?
ReplyDeleteI have absolutely O belief that we will get him but can you imagine if we got him on top of our Benton and Blake.
I'm still in awe of getting those two, if you had told me we were getting either one last night I would have been stoked, getting both has me giggling to myself randomly.
Hello HOTTIES! Sorry Im late. It is a happy Signing Day! Great job by CGC and staff. JayG-- Is your hair standing up on your neck yet? WAR EAGLE!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnthony Gulley and Emory Blake could be twins.
ReplyDeleteKathy what are you watching on the tele? How are you feeling today, btw?
ReplyDeleteHow about Harris Gaston and the Mobile guys?
ReplyDeleteWake - Dre and Kendall announcing at 2 pm CST at their Gadsden High School
ReplyDeleteHarris Gaston has signed.
ReplyDeleteMonica, thanks to some surprise signings, I'm feeling much better today! I'm watching ESPNU.
ReplyDeleteProfound statement they just made, it's those that flip flop that are the one's that are undecided. Duh, you think?
Gaston just now signed. He sensed you asking, ballin.
ReplyDeleteGonzo...where ya think TP will go?
ReplyDeleteTubs just said (re recruiting) "sometimes you just gotta leave the kid alone."
ReplyDeleteBut he didn't add that was his favorite approach.
Comm'r, heard Tommy and thought the same thing!
ReplyDeletethe HABOTN is sizzling today! like the surface of the sun!
ReplyDeleteespnu = perpetually profound fer shure, dude
ReplyDeleteJGT,
ReplyDeleteAre the folks at the complex waiting on any other announcements? Or is it now just getting the remaining committed guys' letters?
Could there possibly be any more commitments today?
I went to an LSU site and they're having a lot of fun with Bama's disappointments. Here's a funny utube:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkoq8mXJUZ0
I didn't know The Herd's show was on tv. He's been manscapped and otherwise cleaned up and bit and they've improved his looks.
ReplyDeleteKathy, CTT delivered top 10 classes in 2006 and 2007. I am unsure what you are talking about.
ReplyDeleteSomeone said the Bastrop coach was on JOX this morning and he said he couldn't use the words on the air when he heard from this guy (Benton). What a loser.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteKathy you have amazing skills at multi tasking and info gathering. I name you the QUEEN of HABOTN.
ReplyDeleteSteve, Tommy had gotten very complacent in his recruiting process the past couple of years. If these guys didn't camp at Auburn, he didn't recruit them. You've got to be proactive when you are fighting against the best in the SEC to get these guys. But it's all water under the bridge now. This is a new day!
ReplyDeleteI am amazed that Miles recruits as well as he does. There have been so many games were I thought they made bonehead moves. Sometimes they work out, sometime they don't. But if I were a recruit, I wouldn't be impressed with Miles.
ReplyDeleteSteveFC -- more proof of his mad coaching and leadership skills.
ReplyDeleteNow back to being Chizzed
So I'm terrified Deangelo will not qualitfy but LSU boards are saying is good on grades and waiting for clearinghouse...anyone know anyhting different?
ReplyDeleteKathy, we have to agree to disagree. I am not sure why the focus on Tuberville anyways. Chizik is the guy now.
ReplyDeleteAw thanks Monica. I can't hold a candle to you, but I graciously accept your compliment. You are definitely the QUEEN of the HABOTN. Now as for the Jester, there are A LOT in this group!
ReplyDeleteESPN says Petey Smith #5 LB in nation. What a farse! At 6' 240lbs the kid likely won't be two deep on special teams.
ReplyDeleteOmnica has the power to dub thee
ReplyDeleteTHT & Hip-Hop,
ReplyDeleteBack Off.
The double click on the submit button was an accident. I wasn't attempting to get "noted".
War Eagle, this is a great class....
I've got my daughter watching ESPNU recruiting with me. I'm a proud mom! It is a good day!!!
ReplyDeleteAND THT,
ReplyDeleteYour status on The HABOTN does not qualify you to dish out unsolicited medical advise.
Anyone, what is our official LOI count up to, and where is our limit, 25 to 30....
ReplyDeleteIf Tubbs wasn't on the U pretending to be a professional recruiter we wouldn't refer to him at all SteveFC
ReplyDeleteGonzo - I humbly apologize. WAR EAGLE back at you!!!
ReplyDeleteTuberville was one of the top coaches in the nation and brought in top 10 recruiting classes. How is that pretending? That is kind of a bizarre statement.
ReplyDeletejhag: the articles I read this morning say Benton is on track to qualify. I'll track them down right after I'm done with Dominos (I'm sending Coach Bradshaw 132 pizzas w/extra anchovies).
ReplyDeleteBut THT was correct, smoking does cause cancer. I have a mother and a father who are on oxygen dying with emphysema, and I still have siblings that smoke. I guess we all pick our poison.
ReplyDeleteNow off the soap box and onto this great day. I'm really enjoying this signing day!
Tubbs used to be a great recruiter, I agree, ten years, yes, like all of us in our jobs after 10 years became relaxed
ReplyDeleteSteve, the focus on Tub is because Tuberville is on ESPN talking recruiting, he is our most recent coach and it's not rare to compare a current year's class vs a previous year's class.
ReplyDeleteWe know you love Tub, we do. You've shown it. We know you always find the positive in Tub's time at Auburn, and there were plenty of them. However as Jay G has stated, the recruiting game passed Tub by and he didn't adapt.
Those top 10 classes that he did have in 2006 & 2007 really didn't do much to help us avoid 5-7 this past year.
Who did we loose? Down to 29 from 30 on the count....
ReplyDeleteLT
