LIVE -- Gene Chizik NSD press conference

The event is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. CST. I am here.

  • "We've had a blast. It's been so great to go out and recruit the state of Alabama. It really has been very exciting. We were excited when we got here and we're more excited now."

  • "It was a big day for us today."

  • He's thanking coaches and the "player hosts".

  • "We had about three or four weeks to hit the ground running and recruit. We talked about a standard -- what Auburn is and what Auburn stands for. We made sure we recruited the right player. That's very important to us. I wanted to make sure we recruited student-athletes."

  • "It was really the first step in the foundation of what we're trying to do."

  • "A lot of people get caught up in the rankings. People get caught up in the stars. At the end of the day, they're not tell-tale signs."

  • "We're going to go out now and re-recruit our own players. We'll now get ready for the business at hands over the next six or seven months."

  • (Assistant coaches) "dug up guys form everywhere."

  • On the apparent surge during the past few days: "This day is a little nerve-wracking. It comes down to the past two or three days. I have to give credit our coaches who stayed in there and fought. They kept fighting and we ended up signing them."

  • On DeAngelo Benton: "We got him on campus. We threw our hat in the ring. We battled for him. Our assistant coaches kept fighting on that thing. That was never an easy get up until the time we actually received the fax. We thought we were in the race because we got him on campus."

  • "To a certain degree, it was like the NFL Draft. We've got to go get the best 12 or 13 guys on offense; the best 11 or 12 on offense. There has to be a mean to the madness. We had to find a balance between the best players available and what we needed, number-wise, to balance out the class."

  • "I can say that I'm happy with the class. Our goal is to make sure next year's recruiting class is better than this one."

  • On recruiting with staff vacancies: "The guys I put out on the road believed in Auburn."

  • "I'm excited about the result we had on this Wednesday morning. This was a huge, landmark day for us."

  • On his emotions this morning: "It's kind of like game day. You've got to produce. You've got to go in there, the adrenaline has to be flowing and you have to produce. I didn't sleep, but it was neat. It's your test. It's your exam. There was adrenaline flowing."

  • On getting kids out of Texas: "A lot had to do with pre-existing relationships and the timing of the whole thing. We have coaches who have recruited in Texas and had phenomenal relationships. You're able to get your foot in the door. When you get your foot in the door and get a young man here to campus, we feel like we have a shot. And it's a legit shot. We were able to close the door in the end."

  • On Moseley: "We're always looking for winners. It's hard to win one (state championship). He's won three. He's won a couple in baseball. He's exactly what we have envisioned. We're looking forward to him coming in here to compete."

  • Chizik doesn't want to compare Moseley and Tyrik Rollison. "They are two great quarterbacks who can come in here, learn this offense and earn this job."

  • On Eltoro Freeman: "You talk about an excitable guy? He's exciting. He's what you're looking for at that position. Getting here mid-year, that gives him a chance to get the defense. When they come in January, their chances for playing go up."

  • Chizik doesn't want to discuss which newcomers have a chance to play next fall. "We tell them: `If you're the best guy, you're going to play.' We want to open the book for them and give them some hope."

  • "With speed, we're always looking to upgrade there. We feel good about where we went in that direction."

  • On Benton's year off: "Coming out of high school, he was one of the top players. There are different circumstances with all the guys out there. He's one that we found. He looks like he can come in and play today. He's a couple years wiser. All you have to do is put on his senior-year highlights and you say: `Yes.'"

  4. You can tell Chiz is saying, "BUY! SELL! BUY! SELL!" in that picture.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Steve, about that K Hart deal, I think it is a sad story as well. Sometimes these 17-18 yr olds are put into grown up situtations when they are not mentally ready to be there. He is playing JUCO now and looks like he'll make it through this whole thing.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Yes, i think he should be referred as The Chiz, like the fonz, but awesomer.

and in case i don't get another chance, thanks for all your work Jay G. it makes my day(s).

  10. I await live coverage fhis momentus occasion.

  11. FSJ- although you've teased us with KK thoughts, I'm quite certain The Chiz wouldn't have his presser simultaneously with a "KK to Auburn" announcement. He's a bammer, or an ACC tiger.

    ReplyDelete
  12. What if chizik says, "Unfortunately for, Auburn, your top recruits didn't look at the fine print. Muuuuwwwwwahhahahahahahaha!" and then he rips the mask off to reveal his true identity: Nick Saban! "Your top recruits just signed with bama. See you at the Iron Bowl! Start the car, Willis."

  13. Dr. HABOTN

    2. ignoring my work which is piling up higher and higher

Do you have a cure for this?!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Todd McShay is an idiot. He was just on ESPN2 talking about how disappointing Auburn's recruiting class is. Said we had 26 committed and lost 12 of them. Where has he been???

    ReplyDelete
  15. WEG - Rx = turn this thing into a pay site

    ReplyDelete
  16. There was a presser just like this when I chose my college. I don't see the big deal.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Anonymous2:06 PM

According to Scout.com, 10 SEC teams are in the recruiting top 25.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I barfed! What a show.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Dre Kirkpatrick to the Atlanta Braves apparently.

    ReplyDelete
  20. the productions are embarrassing

    ReplyDelete
  21. I have F5'd so much today, I may go blind.

Or wear a bandaid on my index finger all day tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  22. What Saban's doing, buying parents, I mean recruiting parents!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Dre was a clown. Athletic bag with a sealed pillowcase bag inside, with a red box and an UA hat inside. What happened to just announcing where you were going?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I chose Auburn over Bama, Huntingdon, Troy State, and Tulane, but no press at all. Of course the scholly was academic.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The Kevin Hart story is just one example of the pressure. What happens with real recruits is just as bad.

To a large extent, I believe these high school recruits are abused. Many schools present an unrealistic picture that the recruits are destined for the NFL. Of those told that, only a small fraction actually make it. Others go to the NFL and realize it stands for Not For Long.

This is why I liked the way Rocker seems to have treated Egua. Give the kid honest opinion of what he can expect, present where he fits into the program and make it clear where hope and reality are.

    ReplyDelete
  26. How does Rollinson and Benton line up with this "recruiting student athlete stuff"

    ReplyDelete
  27. And he ain't scared of Julio....

    ReplyDelete
  28. Dr. HABOTN (JaySr) - I tried the pay thing... did nto go over well with the ownership..

    ReplyDelete
  29. I thought Todd McShay was an NFL draft guy. What the poop does he know about recruiting?

As tourettes guy would say, "I'd like to see you walk a mile in my sh%$!"

    ReplyDelete
  30. Anonymous2:10 PM

They will say. Dre just got burned, that is just shocking?!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I guess AU doesn't have any swagguh either. Oh well.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'll have a glass of that kool aid big mike.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Again, I say this for us as well...

Lets go back one year or two years from now and see if any of these kids are playing or even on the team. Its their 5 seconds of fame. When the step on campus the team has them then, no need to kiss their butt. They are then just a number fighting for a position.

    ReplyDelete
  34. By the way, I have no problem with parents such as those of Cotton that shield players from a lot of this. High school kids know little of the real world and it is easy for them to be lead astray.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Dear Leader - sometimes medicine tastes bad.

    ReplyDelete
  36. press conferences to announce was bad enough - and now this stuff - someone needs to stop these people from making fools of themselves

    ReplyDelete
  37. Tommy said it's hard to beat Nick with the way he's got that program rolling......

    ReplyDelete
  38. Why did Dre Kirkpatrick take an Atlanta Braves hat out of a black bag, that was inside a box, that was inside a backpack???

    ReplyDelete
  39. We will only begin to get an idea of how good last years recruiting class was this coming season. Stars are fine, but the proof is on the field.

    ReplyDelete
  40. So, according to Tubs, they worked very hard on Dre and KK and all the kids in state, but just couldn't beat Nick.

I'm laughing in the floor right now!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Agreed Steve, agreed....

    ReplyDelete
  42. That's what he said Miller.

    ReplyDelete
  43. The proof is also in PatDye'sWildTurkey.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I don't buy it Kathy... Not for a second. From all reports Tubs and co. Completely ignored Gadsden.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I guess we can't ask Tubs for a refund. With "representatives" like that, who needs enemies.

JAY GT - I don't see how you do that real time. You'd make a great court reporter, or is it court recorder. Whatever.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Chizik said "Our goal is to make sure next year's recruiting class is better than this one." He has thrown down the gauntlet!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I have faith coach Malzahn can atleast make us harder to deal with in an X's and O's standpoint. The X's and O's and mph is what i'm excited to see on the field. 27 will be a monster in this offense.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Did Dre K. also have a snack in there? As long as that took, I thought he was going to pull out a table cloth and a complete Thanksgiving dinner.

I was also impressed that he kept that grim, serious look on his face the whole time, as if he didn't know it was all some silly gag. I would have used a Thrashers cap instead of the Braves but maybe he doesn't like ice hockey.

    ReplyDelete
  49. To me Gene is more well-spoken then CTT, sounds more professional and wise

    ReplyDelete
  50. Anonymous2:18 PM

how would Tuberville know? He didn't even try.

    ReplyDelete
  51. It wasn't a Braves had Dre pulled out...the Braves A doesn't have the swoosh thing coming off the top of it. It's just an Alabama hat with a weird color scheme.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Miller, Dre did come to Auburn's camp, so I'm sure Tubs talked to him there!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Anonymous2:19 PM

Dr. HABOTN, I was just thinking something along those lines.

    ReplyDelete
  54. It sure looked like a Braves hat. Navy blue or black and red...

    ReplyDelete
  55. Re D. Benton. This from a headline on the Rivals site. No. 3overall. Why they now list him as four-star is anyone's guess:

    Signing Day shocker for Auburn

    by Jeffrey Lee
Former Bastrop (La.) High standout receiver DeAngelo Benton has shocked the recruiting world and signed a National Letter of Intent with Auburn. Benton, ranked a five-star and the No. 3 overall prep school recruit in the country in 2008, was a two-time LSU signee.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I am glad to see Chiz say we are looking for student athletes and not to get caught up in the stars. He seems to be right along the same lines as we have seen in the past, which is good.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Yep..it was Crimson and Black which are GCHS's colors.

The logo was the Alabama A...not the Braves A.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Anonymous2:24 PM

So, Monica, did the day meet your expectations?

    ReplyDelete
  59. As a Braves fan, and a resident of Atlanta, I can assure you that it was NOT a Braves hat.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Bizarre posts like Tuberville didn't even try seem childish and obviously an out right lie.

    ReplyDelete
  61. How far in the past Steve?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Just hit the DVR to watch Dre. How frikkin funny was that?! First of all, he forgot to thank his baby mamma... then he committed to the Atlanta Braves. Was the dollar store out of bammer crap?

    ReplyDelete
  63. D Benton's "stars" fell to four b/c he showed interest in AU.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Anonymous2:25 PM

Finebaum now has "experts" on saying no way will Benton qualify.

    ReplyDelete
  65. JGT,
Can you ask Chiz if he plans to make OL and LB priority 1 and 1a next year considering the lack of depth at each position?

    ReplyDelete
  66. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I can attest to the fact that Tuberville was lax in his recruiting up here..

The assistant that was signed to this area (Coach Price I think) did a good job...

But an assistant isn't going to out recruit the HC of the other big time program in the state.

Tuberville is the one to blame for AU striking out up here the last two years. Chizik won't make the same mistake..

    ReplyDelete
  68. Big, I don't keep bringing him up and childish fans telling lies doesn't change the truth.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Luv - I've been so happy with how this staff has approached recruiting that I was pleased before today. The fact that they delivered as well as they did is just icing to me. Next will be getting them enrolled.

    ReplyDelete
  70. According to Bastrop Recruiting Police and All Around Permission Giver...Benton was SURE to qualify this time around.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Anonymous2:29 PM

Fact: Tubs went duckhunting when Saban was out recruiting.

To me, that's not trying. How in the hell is that childish????

    ReplyDelete
  72. Dr. HABOTN has issued the medicine on the mourning period.

    ReplyDelete
  73. signed to this area?

    Am I drunk?

    Assigned. Sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Maybe Tubs wasn't everything he was quacked up to be.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Anonymous2:30 PM

Thank you for helping a girl out, FSJ.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Dre about to be on Finebaum. Somebody call and ask what position he will play for the Braves.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Anonymous2:30 PM

As Omnica, I'm sure you help out with that.

    ReplyDelete
  78. AUBIE IT'S NOT A BRAVES HAT. Geeze folks. If you're going to make fun of someone make sure you have the right material.

    ReplyDelete
  79. One of those tools on ESPN is using my name for some type of HS award. If he doesn't watch out, I'll have to get Brad Bradshaw on him!!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Anonymous2:31 PM

I meant to say, I'm sure you can help out with that.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Steve, Tubs is on ESPNU. Has been all day. Folks are watching and listening to him, so naturally they are making comments.

Moving on. Love how hard this group of coaches have worked. Wait until they have a full year under them.

Now it's time to finish how the staff.

    ReplyDelete
  82. There are a lot of fans that are pretty embarrassing. Idiotic comments about what coaches happened to be doing on a couple of days are pretty ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Seanz: Do you have something against the Braves??? Or humor in general??

PS. We know (insert huge sigh here)

    ReplyDelete
  84. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Well look at it this way, Tub on ESPNU is not nearly as bad as Matt Millen being on NBC analyzing the Super Bowl...

    ReplyDelete
  86. This is from Bryan on AuburnSports.com

    On Benton's Ranking

"DeAngelo Benton was not added to the 2009 database until this morning after he committed to Auburn. It's Rivals policy not to rank players that are not playing that year and are expected to re-sign with the same team for a second or third time. Benton signed with LSU in 2007 and 2008 and counted on their team rankings. He was a 4-star in 07 and 5-star in 08.

Because he is now signing with Auburn, Rivals has added Benton to the database and assigned him a 4-star ranking (5.8). It's the exact same ranking they assigned OL Jermaine Johnson, who signed twice with AU but is now enrolled at Miami. Johnson was a 3-star out of high school in 07 and a 5-star out of Hargrave in 08.

On the other hand, Bama's Kerry Murphy, who signed with Bama a third time this year did not get a 2009 ranking and does not count in their 09 team rankings. That would have also been the case for Johnson if he stuck with Auburn and Benton if he stuck with LSU."

    ReplyDelete
  87. In terms of recruiting, it looks like this staff will be great. I still can't get over that we actually got Benton.

I am wondering about the offensive line and the valid points jhag brought up. It would be interesting to hear what Chizik thought there.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I am with SteveFC on this... people around here like to act like Tuberville was worse at recruiting than he was. He had a pretty bad year last year, but other than that, things were pretty good.

That being said, this staff looks like it is built much more for recruiting, and that is awesome. But the, "Tuberville sucked so bad" stuff is getting annoying. He obviously did something right with the amount of wins he got over the years.

And, not to rain on a parade, but....well.... Chizik won 5 games the last two years. I think he has a good enough supporting cast to win here, but there is nothing that proves to me he is Pete Carrol/Nick Saban and not a Charlie Weis/Ron Zook. Today has been awesome, but it is a little nuts to be singing "Ding Dong, the Witch is dead, Tuberville's gone, we gots Chizik instead!"

    ReplyDelete
  89. Clear as mud Monica!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Let it Go Already!!!

    ReplyDelete
  91. Steve, we all (you and I included) say embarrassing, idiotic things from time to time. Simma down over there. Do you need a nap?

    ReplyDelete
  92. We need some good dip with all this chippiness.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I don't have anything against humor or the Braves...In fact I love the Braves, and I don't want a Braves hat supposedly sitting on Dre's head.

That said, he might actually be an upgrade to the Braves roster...sigh

    ReplyDelete
  94. Not sure we'll have 80,000 for the A day game but a big crowd would be a nice showing of support.

Wonder if the ignorant on the al.com blog are still spewing forth about the Chiz hire? Nah, not going over there to check it out.

    ReplyDelete
  95. And what I hear about KK to Bama was that it all depended on how the dominos fell with Randle.

If Randle had gone to Bama...Kelly was going to Clemson.

Auburn put forth effort on him after Chizik arrived. I think had they been there the whole time he might have ended up in Lee County.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Anonymous2:35 PM

Kathy, agreed. It's pretty exciting to think about what will happen from here on out.

    ReplyDelete
  97. In a scary parallel, Charlie Weis has recruited great everywhere except... the offensive line. And he is a genius just like Malzahn.

Lets hope we get some o line next year.

    ReplyDelete
  98. lol Kathy - exactly!

    ReplyDelete
  99. The Seanz,
I live in Aubie world. In Aubie world, that is a dang Braves hat. At the very least, whatever the hell hat is was, it was not an officially licensed UAT hat. It was not crimpson and white and the bill was flat as a board... which, in my opinion, should also be illegal.

    ReplyDelete
  100. The thing with star is also that they are relative. They basically grade on a curve, with them allocating so many of each. So, if there is a lot of very talented players, some five stars will drop to four stars.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Kum Ba Yah, my Lord.

    Kum Ba Ya!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Jet - How about some black bean soup instead?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Can't we all just get along?

    ReplyDelete
  104. Charlie Weis is a good example of not judging your head coach too soon. He started off great at Notre Dame and they basically gave him the keys to the place. Then came the sudden fall.

    ReplyDelete
  105. I agree Michael....OMG....no I don't. I'm glad Tubbs moved on and would have supported whoever we hired. It happened to be the Chiz so I'm now a Chizler. Nuff said!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Aubie, on that we agree. That hat was ugly as sin. It could have only been worse it was that ridiculous houndstooth cap. Dre and Tana have been put on the top of the SeanZ list of ridiculous hat choices today.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Anonymous2:39 PM

What I said wasn't childish or idiotic. I was just giving ONE example. I'm not saying he was the worst recruiter ever. I'm just saying the over the past couple of years, it seems he didn't work as hard as he could have. I'm not the only one on here to say this. And, now I'm done.

    WAR DAMN CHIZIK!

    ReplyDelete
  108. I'm thinking we have spent too much time together today! Kind of like a family on the 6th day of that week long rainy vacation couped up in the hotel room!

    ReplyDelete
  109. SeanZ...

    Tana's hat was great...

    ReplyDelete
  110. "$teve," let's just get this over with. You actually ARE Tommy Tubberville. No one would be so sensitive about whether the guy was slacking off duck hunting or not, or a million other charges you get so rankled about, but THE guy himself.

So, Tommy, my thanks for running a clean program for so long and being a great representative for Auburn. And thanks for resigning and moving on when your tank was empty.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Aubie - is that a list you have every day?

    ReplyDelete
  112. I made the mistake of drinking 4 mugs of coffee and having 3 different media streams running together...I am WAY too keyed up.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I support chiz also, and the staff choices have been awesome. It's the Tubs bashing that annoys me. I think once a couple of seasons have gone by, the same old choir bashing Tubs will be bashing Chizik. This staff just hasn't had a chance to be turned on yet because they haven't lost a game yet.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Sean... we agree on the hat - ugly as sin. I am good with that.
Dre just said he wanted to go to Texas but he changed his mind when his son was over at his house the other day. He realized he would only see him every four months.

    ReplyDelete
  115. FSJ, its a great hat if you like ripping off Bobby Bowden and looking like you should be incognito in Central America.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Great point Comm'r.

Thanks for everything Tommy...see ya at the lake.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Monnie,
    What list is that?

    ReplyDelete
  118. Thanks Jay G for the live blogging of the press conference.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Did someone here just add me on FB? Just trying to get an ID...

    ReplyDelete
  120. I don't see the big deal about the grades. I'll be happy to take some tests or whatever. Sheesh. They act like college is for education or something.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Anonymous2:45 PM

    That would be me, DMiller.

    ReplyDelete
  122. LMAO @ "JAZZ HANDS"

    ReplyDelete
  123. Michael I'm not on this staff's bandwagon for any reasons other than the new fresh attitude, leadership and hard work shown so far.

Which is how I was/am judging the prior administration. Because as Steve will be quick to point out...they were the ____ winningest coaching staff in all the world. (not my point)

    ReplyDelete
  124. Thanks Sensi... Had to make sure it wasn't a stalker. Or, at least a stalker I didn't approve of.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Marlon Brown is going to UGA if anyone cares.

    ReplyDelete
  126. pop and sparkle, Monnie, pop and sparkle.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Marlon Brown to GA. Good WR. Bulldogs keeping a low profile today.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Marlon Brown's UGA cap makes DK's Braves cap look almost non-revolting ... almost.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Anonymous2:50 PM

I tried, but I can't get away from Facebook. So, if you can't beat em, friend requested everybody, I say.

    ReplyDelete
  130. Word on the street in Athens is that they're doing FBI background checks before deciding if they're excited or not.

    ReplyDelete
  131. Turbo Prop, who will enter this fall as a freshman, is available to assist any and all.

He's available for SAT and ACT "consultation" as well. Believe me, you want him.

    ReplyDelete
  132. Hats off to Coach Chizik and the rest of the staff. I think they have added some much needed energy that has been lacking in recent years.

    ReplyDelete
  133. Marlon's craptacular cap...UGA hats are unusually stupid lately.

    ReplyDelete
  134. LOL

Aubie, I'm going to lure you to Facebook if it's the last thing I do!

    ReplyDelete
  135. All this recruiting guru stuff made me wonder... whatever happened to bammer Forrest Davis?

    ReplyDelete
  136. Marlon Brown opposite DeAndre Green is just about scary!

    ReplyDelete
  137. Group hug, anyone? Group hug?

    ReplyDelete
  138. How about a group grope?

    ReplyDelete
  139. I'm going to fly around the world if it's the last thing I do - Amelia Earhart

    ReplyDelete
  140. Anonymous2:53 PM

For the record, I am not a Tuberville hater. I liked him. He ran a good, clean program. But, like Denny Crum just stated referring to Chizik and Co.:
"they have added some much needed energy that has been lacking in recent years."

    ReplyDelete
  141. Will there be mascots involved, Monica?

  142. Oku is the final Auburn target.

So what you see now is what you got ... aside from an Oklahoma City scatback.

Anybody that thinks 2 days duck hunting makes for a lazy coach or that it affects a recruiting class outcome is delusional.

Stop slamming the ex-coach and the defenses of him will stop.

If you have to qualify today's successes against last years recruiting class, then you are looking back and essentially trying to justify something.

Discuss this for what it is today.

  145. Check that.... AJ Green

Too many names swirling to get it right.

  146. Marlon Brown to UGA. UT fans not very happy.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Dr. HABOTN, Please prescribe a round of laxatives for all please. Some folks are way too uptight.

Mon, I am all about the group grope...especially if mascots are fair game.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I hear UGA fans have been a little upset over their recruiting today. I'm not sure why, their class looks pretty good to me.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Like all the others Hoopie, just your opinion. I wouldn't have known "the other" coach existed nor would I have had comment concerning his shortcomings had he not been on a TV show today about "cruitin".

    ReplyDelete
  150. Does this group grope involve Aubie?

    ReplyDelete
  151. I am convinced that that Layla Kiffin without makeup looks like Monte Kiffin, hence the collapse of the Vols' recruiting class.

    ReplyDelete
  152. UT fans definitely not happy today. I had lunch with a few that are wondering about their $6 million coaching staff. Pretty sure they forgot that there's no 'cruitin in the NFL.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Ditto JZ's comment. Sheesh you folks are working hard at being a buzz kill.

You can wear a mascot uni if you want, JZ.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Just like we have been able to say for the last 6 months or so, at least we are not UT.

Is everything Fox 6 B'ham/al.com related just gross to you guys?

Did anybody see the things people were spamming the chat next to the live feed with during the bammer anouncements. That was disgusting!

On top of the people on that site (though I'm sure it's been discussed) the little webcam they shot with, the music, the convo. between dre and mom, etc. was just a little much!

  157. Time to get back in the right direction ... who's up for a HATE BAMA chain?

    I HATE BAMA!

    ReplyDelete
  158. I think I'd be made if I were a UT fan too. Their class just fell apart in the end.

    ReplyDelete
  159. Everyone, even JGT has said it, the recruiting game passed Tub by, he wasn't putting the time into it the other HC's were doing in the past few years and the game did change when Saban came to town.

If he had been taking good care of recruiting the other 363 days a year, then nobody would have noticed he went away for two days to hunt.

Also, this forum is about open conversation. I am not aware of any ban on talking about any topics, since today is signing day and Tommy Tuberville is on TV talking about recruiting and Tub used to be Auburn's coach I think it's all fair game to discuss.

    Just my two cents.

    ReplyDelete
  160. We've been able to say that forever!

    ReplyDelete
  161. I don't understand the negative response to the Tuberville support. Some of you guys are such a buzzkill. There are a few people who think Tubs did a good job, and all of a sudden those people are uptight and ruining your day?

Perhaps you should listen to Jan Terri and chill out and accept that some people don't think like you about coaches, and then realize that nothing anyone is saying affects the recruiting situation that we are all happy about.

    ReplyDelete
  162. Good post RK...

    ReplyDelete
  163. I bet nobody would get offended if the people making comments and comparisons would replace the name Tommy Tuberville with Terry Bowden.

I doubt the outrage would be the same, but the principle would be, it's a former coach who struggled with recruiting at the end of his run.

Sheesh, I said that the duck hunting was ONE example of many. I don't base his career on a couple of days. I'm not that stupid or childish.

Now I'm definitely DONE. BigMike, I need to take the advice you try to give yourself!

  165. when i was driving around during lunch the Knoxville radio guys were in 'shock' that Auburn could have a better recruiting class than Tennessee. it about made me sick. sure, UT is SOOOOOOOO much better than AU. kiss my rump radio man!

  171. Luv - Save yourself the frustration. Trust me on this one.

    ReplyDelete
  172. JGT - Thanks for the great coverage today!!

    ReplyDelete
  173. Nobody is saying Tommy Tuberville didn't do a good job at Auburn. He did and unlike some previous coaches he left it in better shape than he received it, despite the 2008 record.

In the overall picture of his career at Auburn, he was a fine HC. I just personally feel he lost some intensity and focus somewhere during the 2005 season.

    ReplyDelete
  174. I'll save my manifesto for tomorrow.

Right now, I'm LOVIN' the Class of '09 ...

    and HATIN' BAMA!

    ReplyDelete
  175. So, K Kelly, D Kirkpatrick and T Patrick were "undecided" until signing day when they shocked the world and chose the evil empire. Who would've believed it?

    ReplyDelete
  176. I can so relate, JZ. I have a few of those hanging over my head.

    ReplyDelete
  177. I'm not a hater...

  178. Aubie: Great t-shirt.

PS. Your Mom loved the one I gave her too.

  180. Flesh Wound,
    It's for Monnie.
I'm not exactly sure what it means. I hope it's not dirty.

    ReplyDelete
  181. Well all and all this was a great day for Auburn Football! Now the real work begins. These coachs have to make those recruits and the current roster look like an actual TEAM.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Aubie...there are some emotional stains that no amount of Clorox can wash away.

    Just ask Jet.

  184. Restraining orders are like speed limits in parking lots. They don't really mean anything.

    ReplyDelete
  185. I appreciate your facebook humor, Aubie. It let's me know my recruiting is working on you. You're almost ready to commit.

    ReplyDelete
  186. FSJ - not a hater but still a bammer.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Monica/JZ ... when I finish the lyrics to my song "The Restraining Order Blues," I'll shoot you a copy.
