Auburn gets its 2

The Auburn women have been awarded a No. 2 seed in the Oklahoma City bracket.

They'll open Saturday in Piscataway, N.J. against Patriot League champion Lehigh, which is 26-6. That game will tip at 11 a.m. CDT and will be televised by ESPN2.

This bracket includes top-seeded Oklahoma and No. 3 seed North Carolina.

MY THOUGHT: Tough bracket draw. Playing at Rutgers in the second round could be a tall order.

  1. Doesn't seem like much of a reward for an awesome season.

  5. Jay GT-

if AU survives the 1st two games, which regional would they go to? I certainly hope not Trenton. Parts of Jersey are actually quite nice, but Trenton is not one of those parts.

  6. Doc -- headed to Oklahoma City to play (presumably) against Oklahoma and/or North Carolina.

  7. I know there is probably a rhyme and reason to where teams play, anyone know what it is? How come LSU, a 6 seed, gets to play in Baton Rouge?

    ReplyDelete
  8. crap. I was hoping they'd come to Raleigh where I could go cheer for them.

First things first though, kick some Engineer BUTT, then kick Scarlet Knight BUTT

    WARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!!

  9. The more I look at the brackets, the more ticked off I get. Why are we playing in NJ when low seeds are getting to play in their hometown?

I agree with you 100%, cincy! Seems like ONCE AGAIN, Auburn is getting the shaft.

Well, I just submitted my bracket. I sure wish I would have had Denny Crum's expertise. For most of them, I toally guessed. Oh well, it's just for fun.

Monica, when you have time, would you go back two threads and read our discussion about the REC and then email me with your thoughts. Thanks!

  17. Looks like I'll be making the trip to New Jersey, which is a surprise.

  18. Monica, sorry for an off-topic question, but did you watch Big Love last night?

    ReplyDelete
  19. That sounds like a lot of work, Luv.

Yes, Depressed! It is getting so HOT! We KNOW we're not losing Nikki so what can it all mean?

    ReplyDelete
  20. All we gotta do is win folks. Nothing else matters.

    War Eagle!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I still think Nikki is going to take Roman down. And she has a daughter??? This show has awesome twists and turns! One more note, I read last night on a TV review site that HBO has picked it up for another season.

  22. I almost forgot......I HATE BAMA!!!

  23. Does the NCAA know that Don Imus is NOT an Auburn grad?

  24. I gotta be honest Mon, that poken thing looks pretty lame.

  25. If we don't make it to the Final Four, then the selection committee got it right, didn't it?

This may or may not be our year. But it definitely is a building block for the future. The future is looking bright with Fortner.

    War Eagle!!!!!!

  26. My San Diego War Eagle moment. I am walking in downtown, and I see a girl with an Auburn sweatshirt. I offer a fistbump and a War Eagle. She doesn't speak a lick of English and looks at me as if I'm crazy. Oh well. At least we're spreading the message.

    ReplyDelete
  27. As a former San Diegan, let me say: It's not an Auburn town.

    ReplyDelete
  28. After 3 days here, I am surprised that there is a phrase "former San Diegan." It's wonderful.

  29. Depressed - I'm watching Big Love again because I can't sleep. I'm realizing I missed pieces the first time! Nikki has a daughter??? This whole Nikki thing is going to get nutty. I love this show.

  30. The Chattanooga regional bracket in the womens tournament is terrible. The Nooga is definately an SEC town and we get UNC, UNC Charlotte, Central Florida & Purdue?

The arena will be pretty empty for that show.

    Jay G,

What about the Seattle Post Intelligencer going to web only after 150 years?

    Good Morning, Hotties!

Jet, my UAT hatred has been taken to a new level...

    ReplyDelete
  32. From Vancouver, Washington I say Good Morning Hotties. Even though I got here around 7:30p local, I can say absolutely that this isn't as nice as Jet's San Diego trip but then again, outside of Hawaii I haven't been anywhere that is as nice as San Diego.

I don't have time to catch up threads I've missed but see a reference on this thread and recall a reference on another thread to REC. Anyone care to provide a Reader's Digest version of what's up?

    ReplyDelete
  33. A good morning to all!!!

I'm game Luv, I'll take my Bama hatred to a new level too.
    Hold on a sec.....OK, done.

ehyou, it doesn't take much, does it?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anonymous6:46 AM

gatiger, we just briefly talked about the REC. I had gone to their website and had some questions. That's really about it.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Luv - oh, I thought I picked up on a potential controversy brewing in the Gadsden area involving REC admittedly I've only been able to sporadically hit the HABOTN lately so maybe that was it. Or, maybe it was wishful thinking brought about by my UAT hatred.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Anonymous7:01 AM

Well, someone did mention some controversy and I said I had heard that too, but as far as details, I have NONE.

  38. I'm sticking with my mood from yesterday. Super bummed that the ladies have to travel to New EFFIN Jersey to play their first two rounds of games. Let's hope they survive it. Jay, do you think this bid placement has anything to do with them losing to Vandy twice this year and the fact that they aren't perennial "dancers"?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Anonymous7:10 AM

shesaid, I'm sticking with my conspiracy theory that Auburn always gets the shaft!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Anonymous7:19 AM

This is what happens when a team does not win the conference tourney and does not have consistent tradition.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Well, it sucks. I guess I will just have to make a fool of myself watching the game(s) in a restaurant or bar rather than at the actual venue. Boo.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Although looking at the brackets, it seems like they've placed the earlier rounds where their 6-10 seeds are located. UGA is in duluth, GA, LSU has a home game, Notre Dame at home. Just odd how they set it up

    ReplyDelete
  43. well, it just looks like the ladies are going to have to come 'correct' this weekend. bummer, i've got to work on saturday. i guess i'll have to avoid any updates till i get home. this whole work thing is really cramping my AU style.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Anonymous8:03 AM

scottie, what do you mean by "correct"?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Anonymous8:09 AM

shesaid, you could eliminate looking like a fool in public by watching it at home. That's what I'm doing because I have a tendency to yell and curse the t.v.

    ReplyDelete
  46. you've never heard that saying Luv?

example : The Sox better come correct if they're going to beat the Yankees this weekend.

it's just a slang meaning for you've got to bring your best.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Anonymous8:10 AM

I mean "at" the t.v. Durn typos.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Jet,
You may or may not see this, but we had a similar experience. We had just moved to Cincinnati, it was football season and we were going through severe withdrawal. I was driving downtown with my kids and this man was standing on a street corner with an AU cap on. I rolled down my window and yelled "War Eagle!" The man hit the ground looking up at the sky like he was about to be bombed. Didn't speak a work of English either. My mom was with us and teases me to this day that he had gotten the cap at Goodwill.

People that know nothing about the program have no business wearing anything with the logo, IMO.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Anonymous8:19 AM

scottie, no, I've never heard that! But, you are absolutely right - the Ladies do need to bring their BEST and then some.

    ReplyDelete
  51. when i worked with the baseball team back in college i remember some players and managers swapped team gear with other schools. they had baseball shirts & caps from all over that they wore away from Plainsman Park. i thought it was weird. good thing Coach Baird didn't see them.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Not sure what the deal is, but I see a LOT of AU gear on our non-English speaking brethren. I don't know if it's a conscious decision or coincidence. I guess any pub is good pub.

    War Eagle Mi Amigos!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Anonymous8:28 AM

scottie, I have no problem with that scenario. They know something about the program and they have an established relationship with each other.

    ReplyDelete
  54. i don't either Luv. not any more anyways. i've got some other college gear because i've got friends from other schools and such. what would really be odd would be if you're a huge Bama football fan and you played sports at AU. wait a minute!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Luv, it's pretty much mandatory that I go out in public and yell at someone else's TV for the game. They play better that way.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Anonymous9:26 AM

shesaid, then get your a** out there and do some serious yelling! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Anonymous9:29 AM

scottie, apparently, Brandon Cox grew up an Alabama fan. He didn't seem to let that get in the way. I guess if one really wants to play and your team doesn't offer you a scholarship, one will resort to desparate measures...

    ReplyDelete
  58. Anonymous9:31 AM

    *desperate

I didn't think the first one looked right.

    ReplyDelete
  59. but Luv, i betcha Cox isn't a Bama fan no more! :) he's a Bama killer. 3-0 as a starter baby!

i was referring to our AU baseball player who still cheers for Bama football. he had 2 of our 3 hits in the loss to UT on Sunday, though. i'll cheer for the guy. it's just still odd to me.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Anonymous9:57 AM

scottie, do you think Cox bleeds Orange and Blue now? :-)

    ReplyDelete
  61. oh yeah Luv. he saw the light.

my best friend was a Bammer back in the day. it took a road trip to Baton Rouge in 1997 to see Dameyune Craig lead the orange & blue to a victory over LSU. he transferred to AU the next year and has since hated the Tide.
